Netanyahu Fires Defense Minister Gallant

The Israeli hostage families said the firing was another step by Netanyahu to torpedo the chances of a deal with Hamas

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant , who was recently calling for Israel to make “painful concessions” to reach a hostage deal with Hamas.

“Unfortunately, over the past months, the trust between me and the minister of defense has been broken. There were significant gaps regarding the management of the [military] campaign, and these gaps were accompanied by statements and actions that contradicted the decisions of the government and of the Cabinet,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

Gallant is set to be replaced by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz. Gideon Sa’ar, a former Netanyahu rival who joined the government after Israel’s dramatic escalations in Lebanon in September, will replace Katz as foreign minister.

Netanyahu’s decision to fire Gallant was slammed by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which represents relatives of Israeli hostages in Gaza. According to Haaretz , the group said the firing was part of Netanyahu’s “efforts” to torpedo any chances of a hostage deal with Hamas.

The firing was praised by Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, who has called for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Gaza and wants the establishment of Jewish settlements in the Strip. “I congratulate the prime minister on the decision to dismiss Gallant. With Gallant, who is still deeply trapped in his own conception, it is impossible to achieve a complete victory,” Ben Gvir said.

US B-52 bombers arrived in the Middle East on Saturday as part of a new deployment to “defend” Israel amid speculation over whether or not Iran will respond to Israel’s October 26 attack...

The Pentagon announced it was beefing up its military presence in the region on Friday, saying Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin ordered the “deployment of additional ballistic missile defense destroyers, fighter squadron and tanker aircraft, and several US Air Force B-52 long-range strike bombers to the region.”

The Pentagon said the purpose of the deployment is the “protection of US citizens and forces in the Middle East, the defense of Israel, and de-escalation.” The US also recently deployed a THAAD missile defense system and about 100 troops to Israel.

Iranian officials have been vowing there will be a response to Israel’s attack, which killed four Iranian soldiers and one civilian. Israel launched the airstrikes on Iran in retaliation for the October 1 Iranian missile barrage that was fired into Israel in response to a string of Israeli escalations and assassinations in the region.

Iran Eliminates 80 Percent Of 'Foreign-backed' Extremists On Southeast Border: IRGC

Operation Martyrs of Security was launched at the start of the month following the killing of ten Iranian patrol officers by the Jaish al-Adl extremist group

The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ground forces, Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, said on 4 November that around 80 percent of the western-backed militants on Iran’s southeastern border have been captured or killed.

According to Pakpour, Tehran has information that “hostile intelligence agencies” have tasked these militant groups with destabilizing the region.

“IRGC Ground Force units have conducted a military operation in the province of Sistan and Balochistan in recent days. Eighty percent of the terrorists in southeastern Iran have been killed or arrested in the joint operations by the Iranian military forces,” the commander said.

The operation in Sistan and Baluchestan, which began on 1 November, has been dubbed Martyrs of Security.

“The main elements of the terrorist teams in the area have gotten killed or injured in the strikes by the IRGC combat drones … a small number of terrorists have been forced to scatter,” Pakpour added.

Hostage Families [1/2] - On this day [Nov. 4] 29 years ago, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated by a right-wing religious Jewish man, while attending a peace rally in Tel Aviv.

Rabin was assassinated for making peace. He signed a peace accord with King Hussein bin Talal of Jordan in 1994, and the Oslo Accords with PLO leader Yasser Arafat in 1995. The accords signified the start of a peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.

Rabin was killed for daring to make peace with Israel's neighbors. Israel has not truly recovered since.

It is important to know Netanyahu and Ben Gvir's background in this context. Keep this information in mind when you come across Netanyahu’s propagandists claims.

Let's begin -
In the 1990s Netanyahu himself was filmed standing on a balcony with his adoring cheering fans beneath him, leading marches, while his supporters carried photos of then Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin dressed in a Nazi SS uniform, and wearing a Keffiyeh. In some of those photos Rabin’s eyes were cut out.

Netanyahu's supporters marched carrying a noose and a full sized coffin with his name on it, while chanting "RABIN IS A TRAITOR!! DEATH TO RABIN!"

At that time, a young Itamar Ben Gvir - who today serves as Netanyahu's Mister of National Security in charge of the Police Force, and is one of Netanyahu's most extreme Coalition partners - made his TV debut.

Ben Gvir was interviewed on the street, where he threatened the life of a sitting Prime Minister. Young Itamar was holding the ripped off hood ornament from Rabin's vehicle and he said ‘If we got to his car, we can get to him.’

There is no question that the violent outrageous incitement against Prime Minister Rabin led to his assassination.

Rabin was targeted for making peace.

With his death, the hope for a peace process died too. Netanyahu took power shortly after, and has held on to it on and off till today, for a total of over 15 years and counting.

29 years post Rabin's assassination and we are still in that same awful place, with the same awful people in power, doing the same awful things.

Netanyahu makes war, sends others to die, and hides in his billionaire friend's nuclear bunker. Now, he also convinces others to abandon innocent people who were taken hostage by terrorists to be tortured and killed, so that he can cling to power and evade justice.

The people residing in the region do not want perpetual war. We may not like each other, we may not want to be friends, but the vast majority do share a desire to live their life without the threat of being blown to bits constantly looming. Perhaps we can use that as the foundational basis to building a shared future here.

Bennie Thompson highlighted the gravity of the situation with his remark, “It’s inexcusable that many, including elected officials and candidates for office, have weaponized and politicized a tragedy in the final days of the election season to spread disinformation and conspiracy theories for political gain regarding the response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.”

The disinformation targeted by the resolution varies, ranging from claims of governmental weather manipulation to misleading statements about FEMA’s relief efforts.

FEMA has expressed concern that such misinformation has complicated its recovery efforts, creating unnecessary fear among its employees. FEMA Administrator Dean Criswell stated, “I need to make sure I can get the resources to where they are needed, and when you have this dangerous rhetoric like you’re hearing, it creates fear in our own employees.”

The resolution, also backed by House Transportation and Infrastructure ranking member Rick Larsen (D-Wash.), argues that the dissemination of false information has endangered FEMA workers and hampered their ability to conduct aid operations effectively, necessitating temporary halts in door-to-door assistance.

Democrats are also continuing to pressure social platforms over “misinformation” related to hurricanes Helene and Milton. Seven members of Congress have urged House committees—Judiciary, Oversight, and Energy and Commerce—to investigate the role of platforms like X, Meta, TikTok, and Discord in spreading what they allege is misinformation.
