The Mystery Of Argentina’s Gold: Milei Admits That It Was Transferred Abroad, Without Specifying The Quantities Or Destination

While the government acknowledges that gold reserves have been sent outside the country, there’s no official information available regarding the purpose of the operation. The gold is now exposed to the risk of being seized, due to long-standing claims against Argentina made by foreign creditors

Argentina’s reserves, held by its Central Bank , include almost two million troy ounces of gold, valued at about $4.5 billion. But lately, there’s a question that’s on everybody’s lips: where is it? Was it taken out of the country? Did some of it remain within Argentina, while the rest was transferred abroad? Well, the official information only offers partial answers.

The administration of far-right President Javier Milei admitted to the recent transfer of gold abroad, but didn’t specify quantities, the destination, or the purpose for this measure. Nor did the Central Bank provide any details. In a scenario of financial instability — and with the government facing the need to accumulate reserves — the decision generated suspicions and speculation. There are also fears that the gold could possibly be seized, due to long-standing legal cases that have been filed against Argentina by foreign creditors.

The news about the transfer of the gold was not officially announced by the government or the Central Bank. Rather, the information came from the bank workers’ union, known as La Bancaria. Its leader — the left-wing legislator Sergio Palazzo — presented a request within the framework of the Law of Access to Public Information for the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA), asking “if there [were any] operations to send gold bars abroad during the month of June.” Specifically, he demanded to know if transfers of gold took place on June 7 and June 28 through Lumil — a private security firm that transports valuables — and British Airways. He also wanted to know the specific amounts, their destination, the administrative procedures taken, as well as the names of the officials involved.

Chemical Leak Triggers Emergency In Texas — Probe Demanded Due to Facilitie's 'Long Track Record of Pollution, Accidents, and Violations of the Law'

Authorities have issued shelter-in-place orders due to a hydrogen sulfide spill at an oil refinery in Deer Park

A chemical accident at the Deer Park oil refinery in Texas reportedly killed two people and injured five others on Thursday.

Authorities have urged locals to remain indoors and keep their air conditioners off until the all-clear is given.

The leak was reported at around 4:40pm local time, triggering emergency protocols. According to initial reports, a contractor working at the refinery, owned by the Mexican state petroleum company Pemex, accidentally opened a line containing highly toxic hydrogen sulfide gas.

The contractor is one of the two individuals believed to be dead. Authorities have only confirmed one fatality, but a second body was seen being airlifted from the scene by a Life Flight helicopter.

..In response to the leak, a shelter-in-place order was issued for all residents of Deer Park and the surrounding areas. The nearby city of Pasadena issued a similar order.

Residents have been advised to remain indoors, close their windows and doors, and keep their air conditioners turned off until the all-clear is given.

Hydrogen sulfide is used in various industrial processes, including petroleum production and refining. It is also a highly toxic, corrosive and flammable substance. At higher concentrations, it poses serious health risks and can be life-threatening if inhaled.

Arkansas Dad Shoots, Kills Man Found with His Missing 14-year-old Daughter

A central Arkansas father has been charged with first-degree murder after finding his missing underage daughter in the car with a man, then shooting and killing the man.

The shooting happened in Lonoke County, about 75 miles northeast of Hot Springs.

Someone called the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office around 1:12 Tuesday morning about a missing juvenile, the sheriff’s office said in a news release on Facebook. The girl is 14 years old and the man who was shot is in his 60s, Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley confirmed to USA TODAY Friday afternoon.

....In her post, she said the family had a no-contact order in place for Fosler due to stalking.

The man who was shot, Fosler, had been arrested by another agency in July and booked for internet stalking of a child and sexual assault, Sheriff Staley told USA TODAY Friday afternoon.

...She said her family thought Fosler had taken their daughter to kill her. Her daughter is a victim, and her family has a long road to recovery ahead of them, she said.

“We absolutely called 911 during the entire event,” she wrote. “We had no idea this man was in contact with our child again. He was waiting 6-9 felonies for what he did, not 2. He was looking at the rest of his pathetic life in jail, and our daughter was the only witness.”

“Some things we will never know, but we know that the police department afforded this predator privacy they did not give our family,” she wrote. “I’m deeply offended by the way this was handled by the county sheriff's office.”

The @ NY times published a piece in which dozens of foreign medical volunteers who went into Gaza recounted seeing and treating children who were deliberately shot in the head and neck by Israeli soldiers (you can tell from the x-ray they're 5.56 rounds used by the IDF). These volunteers describe in painful detail the extent of horror they saw firsthand, including mass killings, malnutrition, targeting of civilians, and repeated and documented patterns of IDF soldiers behaving ruthlessly toward Palestinian noncombatants throughout the war in Gaza.

It is indisputable that horrendous war crimes were and are continuing to be committed in the Gaza war, no matter the claims to the contrary. Hamas's criminality and terrorism on October 7 can never justify this behavior by a professional military with clear rules of engagement and codes of conduct. There must be accountability for these crimes.

'Jewish State Will Extend From Jerusalem To Damascus': Israeli Finance Minister

In a new documentary, Bezalel Smotrich says the Zionist goal of conquering parts of Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia is part of Israeli public discourse

In a new documentary, Israeli minister Bezalel Smotrich detailed his desire to conquer not only all Palestinian territory to the Jordan River but also the Syrian capital of Damascus and territories extending as far as Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Smotrich, the Finance Minister in the Israeli cabinet and head of the Religious Zionism party, made the comments in a recently released documentary entitled Israel: Extremists in Power. The documentary was produced by Arte Reportage, a Franco-German broadcast news magazine.

When asked about his goal, Smotrich tells the interviewer, “I want a Jewish state … It is a country run according to the values of the Jewish people.”

Israel currently controls territory from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River, including the Palestinian territories in the West Bank, which have been under Israeli military occupation since 1967.

Israel has been building illegal Jewish settlements on stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank ever since.

The interviewer then asked Smotrich whether he thought the borders of the Jewish state should extend past the Jordan River.

Smotrich responded by saying, “Absolutely, but slowly … Our great religious elders used to say that the future of Jerusalem was to extend as far as Damascus.”

The documentary narrator then added, “Bezalel Smotrich has a maximalist vision of the promised land. And it includes all Palestinian lands, but also territories in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Egypt. Even in Saudi Arabia. A radical vision admittedly, but one that is accepted in public debate in Israel.”

The Israeli premier insists on speaking with US President Biden before Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant visits Washington for Iran war planning

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has postponed his trip to Washington, which was scheduled for 8 October, due to opposition from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who reportedly first wants cabinet approval for a plan to attack Iran and to speak with US President Joe Biden...

The Pentagon had announced on Sunday that Gallant would visit the US to “discuss developments in the region.”

Haaretz reported on Wednesday that according to sources familiar with the matter, Netanyahu wanted the security cabinet to approve plans for an attack on Iran prior to Gallant’s departure.

Yedioth Ahronoth reported that “Gallant’s main goal in his trip was to project a show of power from Washington in a play to deter possible Iranian attacks against Jerusalem following a possible retaliation.”

Netanyahu also insists that Gallant not travel to Washington before Biden speaks with him by phone.

Biden had stated he would speak with Netanyahu following the missile attacks from Iran but has yet to do so.

Netanyahu has been trying unsuccessfully to reach Biden directly, an anonymous Israeli official said, while a US official denied that Biden had rejected outreach from Netanyahu, the Washington Post reported.

Seven weeks have passed since the two last spoke.

In March, Netanyahu tried to prevent Benny Gantz, a member of the war cabinet and a political rival, from traveling to Washington for talks with top US officials.

During Gallant’s last visit to Washington in June, he met with US envoy Amos Hochstein and other top US officials to discuss the war on Lebanon...

One goal of his June trip was to resolve what Jerusalem considered to be an “insufficient flow of arms from the United States to Israel,”...

Netanyahu convened his war cabinet on Thursday to approve plans

President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu moved closer to an understanding on Israel’s plans to attack Iran during their phone call on Wednesday, Axios reported on Thursday.

The report, which cited US and Israeli officials, said that the US had accepted Israel is going to launch a major attack on Iran soon and is only concerned that striking certain types of targets could dramatically escalate things. However, Iran has vowed it will respond to any type of Israeli attack, and the situation could easily turn into a full-blown war that would involve the US.

An Israeli official told Axios that the Israeli plans are still a bit more aggressive than the US would like. The US has been warning against striking nuclear facilities or oil infrastructure, and recent media reports have said Israel will likely target military infrastructure.

Netanyahu convened his security cabinet on Thursday to brief them on the situation with the US and is expected to get approval for him and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to set a timeline for the Israeli attack. The Times of Israel reported that the US and Israel will continue conversations on the plans in the coming days, signaling the attack is not imminent.

NBC News reported on Tuesday that the US was considering supporting Israel’s attack with direct airstrikes of its own, although US officials said intelligence support was more likely.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the US was offering Israel a “compensation package” of military aid and full diplomatic support if it only hits US-approved targets in Iran. The US has also committed to defending Israel from any Iranian response.

The long-running news show has come under fire after allegedly cleaning up the Democratic presidential candidate’s answer to a question from “60 Minutes” correspondent Bill Whitaker about Israel that aired during a special episode on Monday.

Her reply was starkly different from the “word salad” the vice president served up in a clip to promote the interview shown by “Face the Nation” the day before.

The controversy has prompted media insiders and critics — including Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump — to question the ethical standards at the Tiffany Network.

“I think there should be an outside investigation,” one former CBS News journalist told The Post on Thursday. “Obviously, there’s a problem here. If they care about journalistic integrity, they would conduct an investigation or release the full transcript.”

Netanyahu Calls On UN Troops To Evacuate South Lebanon As Hezbollah Resistance To Israeli Invasion Stiffens

Hezbollah fighters injured and killed 20 Israeli soldiers in ambushes early Sunday

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on UN Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to evacuate the border between Israel and Lebanon on 13 October, amid ongoing resistance by Hezbollah fighters to Israel's ongoing ground operation.

Addressing UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Netanyahu said Sunday in a Hebrew-language message, "It is time for you to withdraw UNIFIL from Hezbollah strongholds and from the areas of combat."

"The IDF has repeatedly asked for this, and has been met with repeated refusals, all aimed at providing a human shield to Hezbollah terrorists," says Netanyahu.

"Your refusal to evacuate the UNIFIL soldiers makes them hostages of Hezbollah," says Netanyahu. "This endangers both them and the lives of our soldiers."

Israel has endangered the lives of UNIFIL soldiers on several occasions in the past week.
