If the CBS moderators wanted to avoid talking frankly about the aforementioned issues which might mean — here it comes — raising criticism of Israel, this was the way to do it. Make it all about Iran.

Question from Margaret Brennan:

“Thanks to joint U.S. and Israeli defensive action, President Biden has deployed more than 40,000 U.S. military personnel and assets to that region over the past year to try to prevent a regional war. Iran is weakened, but the U.S. still considers it the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world, and it has drastically reduced the time it would take to develop a nuclear weapon. It is down now to one or two weeks time. Governor Walz, if you are the final voice in the Situation Room, would you support or oppose a preemptive strike by Israel on Iran? You have two minutes. Thank you."

Not surprisingly what proceeds from both Democratic candidate Gov. Tim Walz and Republican candidate Sen. J.D. Vance is a brief series of parry and ripostes over who was worse on the Iran issue...

Walz comes out a bit weakly on the first question:

“Israel's ability to be able to defend itself is absolutely fundamental. ....Then he ends, remembering there was a question: “And as the vice president said today is we will protect our forces and our allied forces, and there will be consequences.”

Vance’s turn:

"We have to remember that as much as governor Walz just accused Donald Trump of being an agent of chaos, Donald Trump actually delivered stability in the world, and he did it by establishing effective deterrence. People were afraid of stepping out of line. Iran, which launched this attack, has received over $100 billion in unfrozen assets thanks to the Kamala Harris administration. What do they use that money for? They use it to buy weapons that they're now launching against our allies and, God forbid, potentially launching against the United States as well. Donald Trump recognized that for people to fear the United States, you needed peace through strength. …. Now you asked about a preemptive strike, Margaret, and I want to answer the question. Look, it is up to Israel, what they think they need to do to keep their country safe, and we should support our allies wherever they are when they're fighting the bad guys. I think that's the right approach to take with the Israel question."

Israel Planning Major Attack On Iran

The US is coordinating with Israel on its plans

Israel is planning to launch a “significant retaliation” attack against Iran over the Iranian missile barrage that targeted Israel on Tuesday, which was a response to several Israeli escalations in the region. Israeli officials acknowledged to Axios that the situation could lead to a full-blown regional war, which would involve the US.

According to the Axios report, Israel could target oil production facilities inside Iran or other strategic sites. Israeli officials say that if Iran hits back, then all options will be on the table, including strikes on Iran’s civilian nuclear facilities.

“We have a big question mark about how the Iranians are going to respond to an attack, but we take into consideration the possibility that they would go all in, which will be a whole different ball game,” an Israeli official told Axios .

Other options being considered are attacks on Iran’s air defenses or targeted assassinations. Israel has a history of killing people inside Iran, including the July 31 assassination of Hamas’s political chief, Ismail Haniyeh.

Israel would likely need US military support to launch significant strikes on Iranian territory, and the US officials speaking to Axios say they are coordinating with the Biden administration. Israel wants more US support if it provokes another Iranian attack.

Former PM reveals in his memoir security team found the listening equipment when Israeli prime minister used his personal toilet in 2017

Office after it had been used by Benjamin Netanyahu, the former Prime Minister has claimed.

Mr Johnson has alleged that when the Israeli Prime Minister visited his department in 2017, his security team found bugging devices in the toilets after he had used the facilities.

During their meeting in his old office, Mr Johnson says Mr Netanyahu, who he calls Bibi, excused himself to go to the bathroom, which Mr Johnson describes as similar to “the gents in a posh London club” which exist within a “secret annexe”.

In his book, ‘Unleashed’, Mr Johnson writes: “Thither Bibi repaired for a while, and it may or may not be a coincidence but I am told that later, when they were doing a regular sweep for bugs, they found a listening device in the thunderbox.”

When asked during an interview with The Telegraph if he could give any more detail on what happened, Mr Johnson said: “I think everything you need to know about that episode is in the book.”

It is not clear whether Israel was questioned or rebuked over the incident.

Around a similar time, Israel was accused of planting listening devices in the White House.

According to US officials, Washington concluded that Israel was likely behind the placement of cellphone surveillance devices that were found near the White House and other sensitive locations around the capital.

Although having never worked in Mossad, Israel’s spy agency, Mr Netanyahu is known to have worked closely with them.

As the second-largest espionage agency in the Western world after the CIA, it focuses on foreign intelligence gathering and covert operations.

During the meeting with Mr Netanyahu, Mr Johnson, then the foreign secretary, describes how he felt like “Willy Wonka” as he showed him around his place of work in what was his first visit to the Foreign Office.

Three former US officials told Politico that Israel had been identified by the FBI as the culprit behind the placing of a number of miniature devices in Washington D.C.

One official told the outlet that the gadgets, which monitored mobile telephone traffic, were likely intended to spy on the then-president.

Lebanese Soldier Killed After Israel Bombs Red Cross Convoy

The convoy was hit as it rescued people from the war-torn region despite coordinating its movements with the UN

At least one member of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) was killed and four paramedics were injured on 3 October when the Israeli air force bombed a Red Cross convoy traveling near the village of Taybeh in south Lebanon as they were evacuating wounded people from the region.

The Lebanese Red Cross announced that the humanitarian convoy was targeted despite coordinating its movements with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The LAF said a second soldier was injured in the attack.

"One soldier was killed and another injured in an attack by Israeli forces while conducting an evacuation and rescue mission in collaboration with the Lebanese Red Cross in the town of Taybeh, Marjaayoun," the LAf said in their statement.

The indiscriminate Israeli attack came just hours after an Islamic Health Authority team was hit by an airstrike in central Beirut, killing seven paramedics, rescue workers, and volunteers.

Volunteer Firefighter Who Rushed To Help Hurricane Helene Victims Is Threatened With Arrest

A volunteer firefighter using his own helicopter to help save Hurricane Helene victims was threatened with an arrest while halfway through helping an elderly couple.

But while halfway through rescuing an elderly couple in Lake Lure, North Carolina , on Sunday, a senior official with the local fire department told him he would arrest him for doing so.

Seidhom brought his two-seater aircraft down in a parking lot after rescuing Susan Coffey from her her home, while leaving his own son Landon with her husband Michael at their isolated property.

The plan had been for Seidhom to return Susan to safety, before then returning for Landon and Michael in three separate trips, before the fire official threatened to have him arrested, he has claimed.

....Seidhom was then ordered to leave and not return, before he explained he had to fly back over a section of land to recover his son and Michael - with his chopper only able to accommodate one more person at a time.

He continued: 'He told me I wasn't going to go back up the mountain to get them, I was going to leave them there.'

When he pushed the man for a reason as to why he should not go back to collect them, he was told 'you're interfering with my operation'.

The man then told Seidhom: 'If you turn around and go back up the mountain, you're going to be arrested. I said, 'Well, sir, I'm going back to get my copilot [his son], I don't know what to tell you'.'

Seidhom said the fire official then called over two other law enforcement officers who threatened him with arrest should he return to pick up the two.

Israel Bombs Central Beirut, Killing Several Medics In Attack On Lawmaker's Office

The attack came during a string of over a dozen violent Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburb

Israel launched several violent attacks on Beirut’s southern suburb and elsewhere in the Lebanese capital early on 3 October and in the late hours of the previous day.

A massive Israeli airstrike hit the Beirut suburb at around 3:30 AM on Thursday, leaving a large cloud of smoke. Further heavy strikes targeted the area and were heard across the capital.

Seventeen Israeli airstrikes hit Hadath, the American neighborhood, Shiyah, Saint Therese, the Kafaat intersection, Haret Hreik, and Burj al-Barajneh. The Msharafiye area of the suburb was also struck.

Several residential buildings were destroyed in the attacks.

Shortly before, an Islamic Health Authority team was hit by a strike in the Bashoura area near Zokak al-Blat in inner Beirut. The Health Authority announced that the strike killed seven paramedics, rescue workers, and volunteers.

Israel used white phosphorus munitions in the attack on the Bashoura neighborhood, which are illegal to use on civilians and civilian infrastructure under international law. A foul, acidic smell was reported across Beirut.

Al Jadeed’s correspondent said the Bashoura attack targeted the office of Hezbollah MP Amine Sherri, who was not present in the building at the time of the attack.

The Israeli army issued evacuation orders to several areas in the suburb early Thursday. It said earlier in a statement that late on Wednesday night that it “is now targeting Beirut.”

The first several attacks, which hit the suburb late on 2 October, were reportedly carried out by Israeli warships.

Israel Again Accused Of Illegally Using White Phosphorus In Lebanon

"If Hezbollah rained white phosphorus over Tel Aviv there would be wall-to-wall coverage and every major leader would be saying it's the worst war crime," said one critic.

Israeli forces were accused Tuesday of the war crime of firing white phosphorus artillery munitions over populated areas of southern Lebanon as Israel escalates an assault on its northern neighbor that has killed or wounded thousands of people.

Video footage published on social media and reported by Middle East Eye shows distinctive explosions that appear consistent with the use of white phosphorus rounds over civilian areas of southern Lebanon, including the village of Kfar Kila.

While white phosphorus munitions are not completely prohibited under international law, their use in populated areas is forbidden. White phosphorus round are primarily used to create smokescreens. However, when used as an incendiary weapon, white phosphorus – which ignites on contact with air and burns at nearly 1,500°F (815°C) – can maim and kill by burning flesh straight through to the bone, often causing a slow, agonizing death. Water does not extinguish it.

Israel is dropping white phosphorous on Lebanon – a chemical weapon which causes deep and severe burns to the skin and damages the eyes and lungs.

Another crime against humanity.

Court Blocks Newsom’s Unconstitutional Attempt To Muzzle Parody During Election Season

Dealing a significant blow to California’s attack on free speech through its legislative efforts to regulate AI-generated content, the Eastern District of California has issued a preliminary injunction against Assembly Bill 2839 , which aimed to curb the spread of “deepfakes” and other digitally manipulated media during election periods.

The ruling, delivered on October 2, 2024, sides with digital content creator Christopher Kohls, who argued that the law infringes on free speech rights and parody.

Christopher Kohls, known online as “Mr. Reagan,” produces videos that use artificial intelligence to create parodies of political figures, including a controversial piece featuring an altered voice of Vice President Kamala Harris. Kohls filed the lawsuit shortly after AB 2839 was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom, claiming the legislation unfairly targeted his work as parody and satire.

In the court’s decision, Judge John Mendez emphasized that the law did not pass constitutional muster, stating, “AB 2839 does not pass constitutional scrutiny because the law does not use the least restrictive means available for advancing the State’s interest here.” The judge highlighted alternative approaches like counter-speech that could address concerns about misinformation without restricting free speech.

The ruling criticized AB 2839 for its broad application, which could potentially chill free speech. “While California has a valid interest in protecting the integrity and reliability of the electoral process, AB 2839 is unconstitutional because it lacks the narrow tailoring and least restrictive alternative that a content based law requires under strict scrutiny,” the order stated.

Damning Report Reveals How Antony Blinken Lied To Congress On Israel

Leaked documents show that the secretary of state received two explosive reports on Israel blocking aid to Gaza—right before he told Congress the exact opposite.

Earlier this year, two U.S. government authorities determined that Israel was deliberately blocking food and medicine deliveries into Gaza during its brutal massacre in the territory.

In a statement to Congress on May 10, Blinken said, “We do not currently assess that the Israeli government is prohibiting or otherwise restricting the transport or delivery of U.S. humanitarian assistance.”

Before his statement to Congress, Blinken received a 17-page memo from USAID on Israel’s conduct, obtained by ProPublica, which described instances of Israel killing aid workers, bombing hospitals and ambulances, tearing down agricultural structures, regularly turning away trucks of food and medicine, and sitting on supply depots.

Food for Gaza, including flour that could have fed nearly 1.5 million Palestinians for five months, was stockpiled less than 30 miles from the Gazan border in an Israeli port, the memo stated. In February, however, Israel stopped allowing flour into the territory, accusing the recipient, the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, or UNRWA, of having ties to Hamas. An independent investigation would find no evidence for Israel’s claims.

On its own, the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration also concluded that Israel was blocking humanitarian aid, recommending that nearly $830 million in weapons and bombs to Israel, paid by U.S. taxpayers, should be frozen under the Foreign Assistance Act. USAID echoed the recommendation, writing in its memo that the U.S. should pause additional arms sales to the country.

Abdallah Bou Habib says Nasrallah agreed to a US-French proposal for a 21-day ceasefire

Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib has said that Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah agreed to a US and French-proposed 21-day ceasefire with Israel right before Israel killed him.

Habib said the US and France told Lebanon that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also agreed to the ceasefire proposal.

“They told us that Mr. Netanyahu agreed on this, and so we also got the agreement of Hezbollah on that. And, you know what happened since then,” Habib told CNN host Christiane Amanpour.

US officials told the media that they coordinated the ceasefire proposal with Israel and were “frustrated” with Netanyahu for rejecting it. But the US put no real pressure on Israel to agree to the ceasefire. The same day Netanyahu rejected it, Israel announced it secured another $8.7 billion in military aid from Washington.

Report: Iran Tells US It Doesn’t Want War But Phase Of ‘Self-Restraint’ Is Over

Al Jazeerareports the message was sent to the US via Qatar

Al Jazeera reported on Thursday that Iran has delivered a message to the US , saying it doesn’t want a regional war but warning that its “unilateral self-restraint” is over.

The message, delivered through Qatari meditators, said that “individual self-restraint” does not secure Iran’s “national security requirements.”

Iran also warned that if Israel launched an attack on Iran, it would be met with an “unconventional” response that would include the targeting of Israeli infrastructure.

The message comes as Israel is vowing to respond to the Iranian missile barrage that was launched on Tuesday, which was a response to the Israeli killings of Hamas’s political chief in Tehran, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, and a senior member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who was killed alongside Nasrallah.

Hamas’s political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed back on July 31 when he was at a heavily guarded guest house in Tehran, where he was visiting for the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The day before Thomas Matthew Crooks sprayed gunfire at President Trump, the Federal Bureau of Investigations arrested Asif Merchant, a Pakistani national who was admitted into the U.S. via parole for “significant public benefit.” The Dallas office of the FBI sponsored Merchant’s parole for the purposes of “security interests.”

The mainstream media has framed this arrest as an Iranian plot gone awry. Lee Smith investigates Merchant’s connection to Iran and analyzes a dangerous habit at the FBI.

Two attempts on the life of a former president, less than two months apart, is unprecedented in American history. And yet it’s not entirely surprising given that the country’s most powerful institutions and industries have spent the last eight years weaponizing the most suggestible and mentally ill of our citizenry to target Donald Trump and his supporters. Now it seems the FBI may be recruiting from abroad as well.

According to the Trump campaign, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence recently briefed the Republican candidate on “real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilize and sow chaos in the United States.” The Secret Service was alerted to the threat before the July 13 attempt on Trump’s life and reportedly increased his security because of it. But that was not enough to stop Thomas Matthew Crooks from shooting Trump in the face, killing Corey Comperatore, and wounding two other attendees.

There’s little doubt the Iranians are targeting Trump, say former intelligence officials with whom I spoke. “The Iranians are promiscuous assassins, and they hate Trump more than anyone else on earth,” says Peter Theroux, a retired CIA officer who worked on Iran and related issues during his tenure at Langley. “Trump enforced sanctions against Iran. He moved the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. He was the most antithetical to everything Tehran wants, including the triumphal visit to Riyadh he made for his first presidential trip in 2017.”

But above all, there’s the fact Trump ordered the January 2020 assassination of Qasem Soleimani, ... The Iranians have vowed to avenge the terror master’s death and have threatened not only the former president but also former Trump administration officials, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Iran envoy Brian Hook, National Security Advisor John Bolton, and his successor Robert O’Brien. In August 2022, the DOJ charged an IRGC officer for plotting to kill Bolton.

The Islamic Republic definitely has it out for Trump, but it seems this most recent Iranian plot to kill the Republican candidate was hatched by the FBI.

Last month the DOJ announced it had charged a Pakistani national with ties to Iran in connection to a plot to assassinate a politician or U.S. government official on U.S. soil. According to reports, Trump was the target.

The suspect, Asif Merchant, entered the country in April and was arrested on July 12 as he prepared to leave the country. It appears that Merchant was the Iranian threat the Secret Service was briefed on before the July 13 rally in Butler, PA.

The FBI arranged his entry into the U.S. According to an August Twitter post from Fox correspondent Bill Melugin, Merchant “was admitted into the U.S. via parole for ‘significant public benefit’ when [Customs and Border Patrol] encountered him at the airport in [Texas] in April after he flew in from overseas.” The sponsor of his parole, Melugin reported, “was the FBI’s Dallas office, for ‘security interests.’”...
