Famine looms in Northern Gaza: Official

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen ahead of a four-day ceasefire expected to bring needed aid into the besieged enclave

The director of the Government Information Office in Gaza told Al-Jazeera on 23 November that Gaza is on the verge of a famine.

"We are on the verge of a real famine in the northern Gaza Strip because the occupation has refused to allow food to enter," Ismail Tawabata said to the legacy media network. 

"Israel is working to aggravate the situation and create a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip." 

"Water wells are not working in northern Gaza due to the absence of electricity and fuel," the government official also said.

Bakeries, markets, food shops, and fishing ports have been targeted by the Israeli air force, contributing to Gaza's food insecurity. Deliberate airstrikes on agricultural lands have also worsened the situation.

"Hunger and despair are becoming an element of anger," said Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner general of UNRWA.

The Pentagon Is Moving Toward Letting Ai Weapons Autonomously Decide To Kill Humans

Lethal autonomous weapons, that can select targets using AI, are being developed by countries including the US, China, and Israel.

The use of the so-called "killer robots" would mark a disturbing development, say critics, handing life and death battlefield decisions to machines with no human input.

Several governments are lobbying the UN for a binding resolution restricting the use of AI killer drones, but the US is among a group of nations — which also includes Russia, Australia, and Israel — who are resisting any such move, favoring a non-binding resolution instead, The Times reported.

◾Ukrainian POW Stanislav Kadolov refused to fight after conscription. For this, he served six months in a Ukrainian pre-trial detention center, but after he was still sent to the front line and used as cannon fodder:

- I was detained during the curfew.
Law enforcement guys issued me a draft notice... I arrived at the draft office, they immediately assigned me a military unit, and was taken there the same day. Straight from the draft office to the military unit... After 10 days we decided that we didn’t want to fight anymore, gave our weapons to the company’s commander, and left.
Overall, around 100 people left the battalion that day... We were locked up, and spent half a year in prison... On the last day of being in prison, a commander arrived and took us to a village called Mezhevoye. I received the uniform there, other clothes, shoes… They gave me a weapon. They told us, “Guys, get ready.” We were 60 people, reservists. And as far as I understand only 2 survived.

Buses of freed Palestinian prisoners have started to move as part of the first exchange deal between the Palestinian resistance and zionist entity.

Crowds are cheering for the resistance, celebrating the release of the prisoners as the IOF fires tear gas.

Netanyahu Says UN Isn’t Doing Enough for Palestinians in Gaza

Israeli airstrikes have killed over 100 UN aid workers in Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday accused the UN of not doing enough to respond to the humanitarian crisis he created in Gaza.

“I have not seen yet the effort that I’d like to see from the UN and the international agencies to build shelters there [in Gaza],” Netanyahu said.

The Israeli leader said there is “no reason not to erect tens of thousands of tents in the safe zone or next to the safe zone.” It’s unclear what safe zone he’s referring to as Israel has continued to bomb southern Gaza after telling Palestinians to evacuate the north.

Israel’s bombardment of Gaza has displaced 1.7 million people in Gaza, four-fifths of the enclave’s population. It has also killed at least more than 11,000 people, including over 4,500 children, according to the last update put out by Gaza’s Health Ministry on November 10.

While Netanyahu has criticized the UN response, his campaign in Gaza has killed over 100 UN aid workers. POLITICO recently reported that the US had been sharing the locations of aid groups and workers in Gaza, but Israel continued to bomb them anyway.

Internal documents show companies like Airbnb, Coca-Cola and Microsoft have halted ads, or may do so, after Elon Musk’s endorsement of an antisemitic conspiracy theory.

Internal documents viewed by The New York Times this week show that the company is in a more difficult position than previously known and that concerns about Mr. Musk and the platform have spread far beyond companies including IBM, Apple and Disney, which paused their advertising campaigns on X last week. The documents list more than 200 ad units of companies from the likes of Airbnb, Amazon, Coca-Cola and Microsoft, many of which have halted or are considering pausing their ads on the social network.

The documents come from X’s sales team and are meant to track the impact of all the advertising lapses this month, including those by companies that have already paused and others that may be at risk of doing so. They list how much ad revenue X employees fear the company could lose through the end of the year if advertisers do not return.

On Friday, X said in a statement that $11 million in revenue was at risk and that the exact figure fluctuated as some advertisers returned to the platform and others increased spending. The company said the numbers viewed by The Times were either outdated or represented an internal exercise to evaluate total risk.

The advertising freezes come during the final three months of the year, which is traditionally the social media company’s strongest quarter as brands run holiday promotions for events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In the last three months of 2021 — the last year the company reported fourth-quarter earnings before Mr. Musk took over — the company recorded $1.57 billion in revenue, of which nearly 90 percent came from advertising.
