Israeli Hospitals Move Underground, Schools Close As Hezbollah Strikes Deepen

On Sunday, Hezbollah hit the Ramat David airbase, located over 50 kilometers away from the border

Northern Israeli Hospitals have moved to emergency protocols, and schools have been closed amid Hezbollah’s heavy rocket barrages and speculation that a wider war with the Lebanese resistance movement may erupt, Israeli media reported on 22 September.

Yedioth Ahronoth reported Sunday that Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa and Emek Medical Center in Afula have canceled all elective procedures and non-urgent surgeries, while outpatient clinics have been suspended until further notice.

The hospital has also closed its public underground parking lot to prepare for operating wards in its underground complex.

Northern hospitals have stockpiling supplies and medicines for a “deserted island” scenario, where they would need to operate independently without external support.

Health Ministry Director-General Moshe Bar-Siman-Tov discussed the preparations last week, saying: “In war, unexpected things will happen. Hospitals may find themselves isolated and will have to make their own decisions. We will support them with manpower and equipment, but we are entering uncharted territory.”

Yesterday: War On Gaza: Israel Kills Orphans And Widows In School Bombing

Israeli forces killed at least 16 Palestinian orphans and widows after bombing a school sheltering displaced families in Gaza City on Saturday, according to local officials.

The children and women killed in the attack had lost their primary caregiver in earlier Israeli attacks amid the relentless bombing campaign ongoing for nearly a year, the Gaza-based government media office said.

The orphans and widows had arrived at the Zeitoun C school in southern Gaza City to receive cash assistance as part of a charity orphan sponsorship programme.

The media office said the “horrific massacre” was the latest episode of Israel’s genocidal war against Gaza’s civilians.

At least 181 schools-turned-shelters have been bombed by the Israeli air force since the war on Gaza began nearly a year ago, it added.

Hezbollah Confirms Top Commander Killed During Israeli Massacre In Beirut

At least 31 people were killed during the Israeli attack in a residential neighborhood, including women and children

Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah confirmed that senior commander Ibrahim Muhammad Aqil was among 31 killed during an Israeli airstrike that leveled two residential buildings in Beirut's southern suburb of Dahiye on 20 September.

“Today, the great jihadist leader, Hajj Ibrahim Aqil, joined the procession of his brothers, the great martyr leaders, after a blessed life full of jihad, work, wounds, sacrifices, risks, challenges, achievements, and victories … Jerusalem was always in his heart, mind and thoughts day and night,” Hezbollah said in a statement.

Aqil was responsible for supervising the leadership of Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force since the beginning of the Israeli genocide in Gaza and the start of cross-border operations in the Lebanese south.

Another commander of the Radwan Force, Ahmad Mahmoud Wehbi, was killed in the strike along with 14 fighters.

According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, 31 people were killed, including 3 children and 7 women, and 68 were injured during the Israeli airstrike that hit a densely populated residential neighborhood in the middle of the day.

Israel Kills At Least 356 In Lebanon And Orders Thousands To Flee Their Homes

Israeli strikes pummel south and Beqaa as security source tells MEE Lebanese army will fight alongside Hezbollah if invaded

Massive Israeli air strikes on residential towns in southern and eastern Lebanon killed at least 356 people on Monday, in what has been Lebanon's bloodiest day for decades.

At least 24 children, 42 women and two emergency responders were among the dead, Lebanon's health minister said, adding that more than 1,246 others were wounded.

An air strike on southern Beirut targeted Ali Karaki, the head of Hezbollah's southern command, in the parking of his building, security sources told Middle East Eye. His fate remains unclear.

The attacks on Lebanon and Hezbollah forced tens of thousands to flee north to find safety, with air strikes leaving smoking ruins on the roadside as Lebanese sought safety.

People across the country were contacted by Israel by phone and ordered to leave their homes.

UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy Discusses Online Censorship Law and Calls for Regulators To Target Online Streamers

“Pernicious, unchecked censorship” is how many critics might describe many of the UK government’s actions and legislation, but UK Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Lisa Nandy has chosen to speak about “pernicious, unchecked disinformation” and what is being done about it.

That particular comment was meant to once again reinforce the authorities’ claim that online disinformation is where the story of the UK riots begins and ends.

But, Nandy also praised the country’s contentious censorship law, the Online Safety Act, as a way that another government department is able to deal with “incitement and disinformation.”

As for her own department, Nandy spoke about the Media Act that was pushed by the previous government as a way to tighten the regulation of broadcasters. The minister’s comments suggest that the intent of the current cabinet is to use the Office of Communications (Ofcom) regulator to tighten the grip on the streaming services as well.

What Nandy considers to be high regulatory standards now affecting traditional broadcasters is what those opposed to such rules see as a vehicle to usher in more censorship. And now, it seems like it’s streaming platforms’ turn to be included in this policy.

Ofcom, Nandy revealed as she delivered her keynote at the Royal Television Society’s London Convention, will start reviewing the video-on-demand market to bring it up to “the same high standards” as broadcasters.

A wide range of other talking points was covered by this official: the need to have more diversity on film and TV, “fight” what she (and the government) consider to be polarizing fake news, and even have more content made “outside of London” and in working-class settings.

US Sending More Troops To The Middle East After Israel’s Escalation In Lebanon

The Pentagon didn't say how many will be deployed

The Pentagon said Monday that it’s sending additional troops to the Middle East after Israel significantly escalated its bombing campaign in Lebanon earlier in the day.

Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said, “In light of increased tension in the Middle East and out of an abundance of caution, we are sending a small number of additional US military personnel forward to augment our forces that are already in the region.”

Ryder wouldn’t say how many troops the US would send to the region. “But for operational security reasons, I’m not going to comment on or provide specifics,” he said.

According to Lebanon’s Health Minister, the Israeli bombardment that began early Monday has killed at least 274 people , including 21 children and 39 women, and has wounded 1,024.

Throughout the past year, the US has sent additional forces to the Middle East as a show of support for Israel. The strong support from the US, including a constant flow of weapons shipments, has emboldened Israel to escalate in Lebanon and elsewhere in the region.


The night before Israel escalated its bombing of southern Lebanon, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and made it clear the US backed Israel against Hezbollah.

“The Secretary (Austin) expressed his support for Israel’s right to defend itself as Hizballah extends its attacks deeper into Israel,” the Pentagon said in a readout of the call.

The readout said Austin also “stressed the importance of finding a path to a diplomatic solution,” but the US has not threatened to withhold any support if Israel continues to escalate the situation.

The Pentagon said Austin also “made clear that the United States remains postured to protect US forces and personnel and determined to deter any regional actors from exploiting the situation or expanding the conflict.”

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told lawmakers that he is considering the so-called “generals’ plan” to lay total siege to northern Gaza and expel all its Palestinian residents, the Times of Israel reported on 23 September.

When retired major general Giora Eiland presented the plan last week, he claimed it would “change the reality” on the ground in Gaza.

“We have to tell the residents of north Gaza that they have one week to evacuate the territory, which then becomes a military zone, [a zone] in which every figure is a target and, most importantly, no supplies enter this territory.”

The remaining Hamas fighters would then be forced to surrender or starve, according to the plan.

Eiland was the former director of the National Security Council and former head of the Planning Department of the Israel Defense Forces.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering a plan that would result in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian civilians from northern Gaza, CNN reported on Sunday.

The report... said that during a closed-door meeting of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Netanyahu said the plan “makes a lot of sense.”

Netanyahu added, “It is one of the plans being considered, but there are several others. We are committed to dismantling the civilian control of Hamas.”

The ethnic cleansing plan is known as the “General’s Plan” since it was drawn up by retired Israeli generals, including Giora Eiland, who released a video on YouTube where he outlined the idea.

The plan involves four steps:

- Transferring the civilian population in northern Gaza to the south of the Netzarim Corridor
- Blocking all aid and imposing a full siege of northern Gaza and pronouncing it a “closed military zone”
- Preventing deliveries to the area until it is “cleansed” and the remaining Hamas fighters are defeated by applying “intense” military pressure
- Conducting a similar procedure in other areas of the Gaza Strip

In his video, Eiland said the evacuation order for civilians would not be optional. “The right thing to do is to inform the approximately 300,000 residents who remained in the northern Gaza Strip, citizen residents, of the following: Not that we are suggesting you leave the northern Gaza Strip, we are ordering you to leave the northern Gaza Strip,” he said.

“In a week, the entire territory of the northern Gaza Strip will become military territory. And this military territory, as far as we are concerned, no supplies will enter it. That is why 5,000 terrorists who are in this situation, they can either surrender or starve,” Eiland added.

Many Palestinian civilians in northern Gaza would likely ignore any evacuation order since there’s nowhere for them to go, and Israel has repeatedly bombed so-called “safe zones” throughout the genocidal war. That means any remaining Palestinian civilians in the north would be killed or starved to death by the Israeli military.

If completed, the ethnic cleansing could pave the way for Jewish settlements. Many Israeli ministers and Knesset members openly support re-establishing settlements in the Gaza Strip.

A group of 27 MKs, including three ministers, recently sent a letter to Netanyahu urging him to adopt the “General’s Plan.” The letter was signed by members of Netanyahu’s Likud party, the Religious Zionism party, and the Jewish Power party.
