Israel Says ‘High Probability’ Its Strike Killed Three Hostages in Gaza
On Sunday, the Israeli military said there was a “high probability” that three hostages found dead months ago were killed in an Israeli airstrike.
The army announced the conclusions of its investigation into the deaths of Cpl. Nik Beizer, Sgt. Ron Sherman and Elia Toledano. It said investigations had determined that the three were likely killed in a November airstrike that also killed a senior Hamas militant, Ahmed Ghandour.
All three of the hostages were kidnapped in Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. Their bodies were recovered in December, but the cause of death was only recently determined.
In its report, the army said there was a “high probability” they were killed in the strike, based on where the bodies were recovered, pathological reports and other intelligence. But it said, “it is not possible to definitely determine the circumstances of their deaths.”
The conclusions could add pressure on the government to strike a deal to bring home the remaining hostages held by Hamas. Critics say it’s too difficult and dangerous to try to rescue them. Late last month, Israel recovered the bodies of six hostages that it says were killed by Hamas captors shortly before Israeli forces arrived.

Their families were initially informed that the three men had been killed in Hamas captivity, but Maayan, the mother of Sherman, soon declared otherwise

Given the Hannibal Directive exists, it isn’t hard to imagine the spirit of it - that Israeli hostages are a strategic liability, and are better dead than alive - still lives on, and applies even after the October 7th attack.
If the Hannibal Directive applied on the day, it probably applied after. WHY would the Israeli army prefer hostages to die rather than make it across the border into Gaza as a hostage? Because hostages gives the Gazans' leverage politically....

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant is said to believe that ‘now is not the time’ for an offensive against Hezbollah
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering terminating Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, according to Hebrew media.
The tension comes as the two ministers are embroiled in several disputes, most recently over a possible military operation in the south of Lebanon.
“The drafts of the agreement have already been drawn up … Netanyahu is preparing for Gallant’s dismissal in the near future … Galant will be fired by Netanyahu,” Hebrew news outlet Ynet reported on 16 September, citing informed sources.
The premier is planning to replace Gallant with Gideon Saar, former Likud member and founder of the New Hope party. According to the report, Saar may return to the Likud as part of this agreement.
“Gallant has already received the message that there is an intention to oust him and replace him with Gideon Saar … The Prime Minister is close to making this decision. It has not yet been made, but it is close,” Ynet’s sources added.

Iran's ambassador to Lebanon was among over 1,000 people injured in the mysterious attack
Hundreds were injured across Lebanon on 17 September after an apparent attack on the country’s telecommunications networks caused pagers to explode.
Local reports indicate that a majority of the victims are members of the resistance movement Hezbollah. An unofficial toll says as many as 1,200 people were injured, some critically.
