Is Israel Intentionally Attacking Aid Workers?
We’ve compiled 14 incidents where humanitarians were attacked despite giving the IDF their coordinates and being clearly identified as civilians
Despite a meticulous process in place to ensure aid worker safety in Gaza, the leading cause of death in the humanitarian sector over the last 11 months has been Israeli airstrikes.
Of the 378 aid workers killed worldwide since October 7, more than 75 percent have been killed in Gaza or the West Bank, according to the Aid Worker Security Database . The number of humanitarians killed in Palestinian territory in the last three months of 2023 was more than the deadliest full year ever recorded for aid workers.
This includes an Israeli airstrike Wednesday Sept. 11 on a school being used as a shelter in Nuseirat in Central Gaza. According to reports , 18 were killed, including children and six UNRWA aid workers, the deadliest single event for that organization since the start of the war.
Israeli attacks on aid organizations have become routine, despite systems in place to avoid humanitarian deaths. Through a process called deconfliction , aid groups coordinate with warring parties to avoid being attacked. Popular deconfliction mechanisms used by aid groups in Gaza include clearly marking their assets, arranging their movements with Israeli authorities, and sharing their location with the Israeli military.
Christopher Lockyear, Secretary General of Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), told the United Nations Security Council in February that “this pattern of attacks is either intentional or indicative of reckless incompetence.” Forty-eight hours earlier, a 120mm Israeli tank shell exploded in a MSF facility in Khan Younis, killing two people and severely injuring six others. It was the second time a MSF facility had been attacked by Israeli forces.

Brazil Supreme Court Seizes $3m From Starlink In Retaliation Over X’s Refusal To Censor Speech
Moraes is punishing Starlink for the actions of X, a totally separate company.
The conflict between Moraes and Musk has escalated after the uppermost court in Brazil insisted on the disabling of certain X accounts, a demand largely viewed to target supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro. In defiance of this, the offices of X were shuttered in Brazil instead of complying with the court’s directives. This led Moraes to impose the full and complete halt of X’s operations in the country until the company adheres to the court’s commands.
Starlink expressed its disapproval in a statement at the time on X, “Earlier this week we received an order from Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice @alexandre de Moraes that freezes Starlink’s finances and prevents Starlink from conducting financial transactions in that country,” the statement read. The company also criticized Moraes for determining, without substantial basis, that Starlink should bear responsibility for the penalties imposed on X, in a process the company refers to as lacking transparency and devoid of due process.
Recent statements from the court reveal that more than 7.2 million Brazilian reais ($1.29 million) were transferred from an X bank account, and close to 11 million Brazilian reais ($1,95 million) were seized from Starlink. These accounts were released after the payments needed had been made. Brazil’s highest court conveyed that the telecoms companies’ assets are now at their disposal.

The Houthis Have Launched What Appears To Be A Highly Strategically Significant Missile Attack On Israel From Yemen.
Israeli authorities have confirmed that a ground-to-ground missile was fired from Yemen, targeting central Israel.
According to the Houthis, this was a single hypersonic missile that traveled over 2,000 kilometers in under 12 minutes.
Despite Israel's extensive defense systems, supported by the U.S. and its allies, this one missile — not hundreds — was seemingly able to bypass them and make impact.
Israeli media, such as Ynet, reported: "The interceptors that were launched apparently did not hit the missile, which fell near Lod."
It added, "Interceptor debris fell in the Shfela region, including in populated areas."
Sirens sounded across central Israel, including at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.

If indeed this was a single missile launched from Yemen that reached central Israel without being intercepted, the implications are strategically significant.
The message is clear: Yemen, and by extension Iran and its regional allies, have the capability to bypass multilayered defense systems.
This is likely a calculated move to retaliate against Israel for its bombing of the Hodeida port and reinforce deterrence.

An Israeli sniper murdered a Palestinian UN staff member while having coffee on the roof of his home in the occupied West Bank, the UN announced on Friday.
Sufyan Jaber Abed Jawwad, who worked as a sanitation worker in El Far’a Camp in the West Bank, “was shot and killed on the roof of his home by a sniper during an overnight Israeli military operation in the early morning of September 12,” the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) said in a statement.
The Israeli sniper shot Jawwad three times in the chest “while on the roof of his house having a coffee,” Juliette Touma, UNRWA’s communications director, told CNN on Friday.
Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, spokesperson for the Israeli military, confirmed Friday that Israeli troops killed Jawwad in an operation in the West Bank’s Far’a area but claimed he was “hurling explosive devices that posed a threat to the forces operating in the area.”
Israeli troops killed nine other Palestinians during their invasion of El Far’a Camp.
