Iran Inks 14 Cooperation Agreements With Iraq During Pezeshkian’s First Foreign Trip

Baghdad pledged to prevent any acts of aggression against the Islamic Republic from its soil

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian oversaw the signing of 14 memorandums of understanding (MoU) in several fields, ranging from the economy, agriculture, education, and security, among others.

“This historical relationship can translate into the highest levels of cooperation and partnership to face current challenges and support regional stability,” Sudani said during a joint press conference, reiterating Baghdad’s pledge to prevent any cross-border threats.

“We addressed security cooperation, reiterating our principled and constitutional stance that strictly prohibits any group from carrying out acts of aggression, armed operations, or cross-border threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran. We agreed on managing security, especially in the border areas,” the Iraqi premier added.

For his part, the new Iranian president called his visit “a new starting point for cooperation.”

“We need to establish security agreements to cooperate in fighting ISIS terrorism and smuggling,” Pezeshkian said. “The agreements signed so far have yielded good results, but we must identify and address their weaknesses.”

New Israeli Massacre ‘Disappears Entire Families’ In Gaza Humanitarian Zone

Dismembered Palestinians were retrieved from nine-meter craters following the Israeli airstrike on southern Gaza’s Al-Mawasi

Israeli forces committed a new massacre against displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza’s Al-Mawasi region early on 10 September, described by the strip’s Civil Defense as among “the most heinous” since the start of the war.

At least 40 Palestinians were killed and a minimum of 60 injured in the strike on the designated “safe zone,” where displaced Palestinians in tent encampments have been repeatedly targeted by Israel over the past months.

Over 20 tents sheltering displaced Palestinians were hit in the early morning attack on Al-Mawasi, located on the coast near Gaza’s southern city of Khan Yunis.

“We are facing one of the most heinous massacres since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip … entire families disappeared under the sand due to the concussion missiles,” Gaza’s Civil Defense said.

The Civil Defense added that entire families and over a dozen tents completely disappeared after the Israeli strike.

California Attorney General Bonta Pressures Top Social Media And AI Executives To Address “Misinformation”

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has penned a letter to major social media and “AI” companies. And Bonta’s not urging them to “do better” on innovation, competition, and the like.

No – the letter is all about “election misinformation.”

It’s becoming almost pathological at this point, but the entire ruling apparatus in the US (and that includes not only officials but also politically and ideologically affiliated media outlets) is hammering in the message of that being an actual “threat to democracy.”

As if the largest companies in the said industries didn’t hear all this already dozens of times, Bonta goes out of his way to repeat the message to Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Open AI, Reddit, TikTok, X, and YouTube – (wouldn’t that one fall under the Alphabet category? But Bonta lists the video platform separately).

Spain Hosts High-Level Summit Of EU, Muslim States To Advance ‘Two-state Solution’

Several European countries, including Spain, officially recognized Palestinian statehood in late May

Spain hosted on 13 September a high-level gathering of Muslim and European states aimed at discussing ways to end Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip and formulate a timeline for the implementation of a two-state solution.

“We meet to make another push for the end of the war in Gaza, for a way out of the unending spiral of violence between the Palestinians, the Israelis ... That way is clear. The implementation of the two-state solution is the only way,” said Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares told reporters during the summit.

Albares added that there was a “clear willingness” among those attending “to move on from words to actions and to make strides towards a clear schedule for the effective implementation” of a two-state solution, starting with full UN membership for Palestine.

He said that Israel was not invited because it was “not part of the Contact Group,” adding, “We will be delighted to see Israel at any table where peace and the two-state solution are discussed.”

The meeting in Spain was attended by the foreign ministers of Spain and Slovenia, EU Foreign Policy chief Josep Borrell, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, and members of the Arab-Islamic Contact Group for Gaza, which includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Turkiye.

UK Lawmaker Dawn Butler To Summon Elon Musk Over “Misinformation” And Algorithm Use On X

In the UK, ruling Labour MP Dawn Butler has announced plans to have X owner Elon Musk over, as “a witness” to be questioned in the country’s parliament about his social platform.

Misinformation, and the spread thereof, probably to the surprise of precisely nobody, is what this is all about. Butler seems to be laboring under the impression that X might be guilty.

Butler told the Financial Times that it is “vital for the committee to formally examine the use of algorithms in pushing hateful material” and the moderation of such content.”

While noting that this pertains to “other” social platforms as well, she only named, thus singled out, X.

Butler is currently vying to become the chair of the parliamentary Science and Technology Select Committee, so the initiative is a part of her campaign. It’s not clear if this gives Butler any edge over her fellow Labour MP who is her main contender – because Chi Onwurah agrees on that point.

Speaking for Politico , Onwurah parroted the point about algorithms and “hateful” content, adding her own thoughts that this could be used to spread “racial hatred” in particular.

Three Americans, two Spaniards and a Czech citizen were arrested Saturday after Venezuelan officials accused them of coming to the South American country to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro.

The arrests were announced on state television by Diosdado Cabello, the nation's powerful interior minister. Cabello said the foreign citizens were part of a CIA-led plot to overthrow the Venezuelan government and kill several members of its leadership. In the television program, Cabello showed images of rifles that he said were confiscated from some of the plotters of the alleged plan.

The arrest of the American citizens included a member of the Navy, according to Cabello. Spain's embassy in Venezuela did not reply to a request for comment.

The U.S. State Department late Saturday confirmed the detention of a U.S. military member and said it was aware of "unconfirmed reports of two additional U.S. citizens detained in Venezuela."

"Any claims of U.S. involvement in a plot to overthrow Maduro are categorically false. The United States continues to support a democratic solution to the political crisis in Venezuela," the statement said.

The announcement of the arrests comes two days after the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on 16 allies of Maduro who were accused by the U.S. government of obstructing voting during the disputed July 28 Venezuelan presidential election and carrying out human rights abuses.

Earlier this week, Spain's parliament recognized opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez as the winner of the election, angering Maduro allies who called on the Venezuelan government to suspend commercial and diplomatic relations with Spain...

Venezuela's Electoral Council, which is closely aligned with the Maduro administration, said Maduro won the election with 52% of the vote, but did not provide any proof of those results.

Opposition activists, however, surprised the government by collecting tally sheets from 80% of the nation's voting machines. The tally sheets collected by the opposition were published online, and they indicate that Gonzalez won the election with twice as many votes as Maduro.

Despite international condemnation over the election's lack of transparency [like the US's], Venezuela's supreme court, which has long backed Maduro, confirmed his victory in August. Venezuela's attorney general then filed conspiracy charges against Gonzalez, who fled to Spain last week after it became clear he would be arrested.

Maduro has dismissed requests from several countries, including the leftist governments of Colombia and Brazil, to provide tally sheets that prove he won the election. Maduro, who has been in power since 2013, has long claimed the U.S. is trying to overthrow him through sanctions and covert operations.

🚨BREAKING: Venezuela Arrests 6 Foreigners, Including Americans, Alleges Plot To Kill Maduro, 400 Rifles Confiscated, US Rejects Claims of CIA Involvement

Three Americans, two Spaniards and a Czech citizen were arrested Saturday after Venezuelan officials accused them of coming to the South American country to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro.

The arrests were announced on state television by Diosdado Cabello, the nation's powerful interior minister. Cabello said the foreign citizens were part of a CIA-led plot to overthrow the Venezuelan government and kill several members of its leadership. In the television program, Cabello showed images of rifles that he said were confiscated from some of the plotters of the alleged plan.

Netanyahu's Popularity Surges As Gaza Genocide Nears One Year Mark: Poll

The popularity of the Prime Minister and his Likud party fell drastically after the alleged intelligence failures on 7 October

An opinion poll published on 13 September showed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party would win the largest number of seats in parliament if an election were held now.

The poll, published in the Hebrew language Maariv newspaper, showed Likud winning 24 Knesset seats against the 32 the party now holds. The National Unity Party led by former general Benny Gantz would receive 21 seats.

Though Likud would win the most seats, Netanyahu’s ruling coalition, which includes nationalist-religious and ultra-Orthodox parties, would lose any election held now, with 53 seats in the 120-seat parliament. The main opposition bloc would win 58 seats, according to the poll.

The survey also showed Netanyahu’s popularity is improving. Israelis responding to the poll said they preferred Netanyahu over any alternative potential candidate apart from former prime minister Naftali Bennett, who has retired from public life.

Earlier opinion polls taken after the start of the war in Gaza regularly showed Likud gaining only 16 to 18 seats.

Netanyahu and Likud’s popularity fell drastically, as many Israeli voters blamed the prime minister for the alleged security failures of the military and intelligence apparatus on 7 October. ...

Netanyahu and his coalition partners, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, have refused a ceasefire deal with Hamas that would return the Israelis who are still captive in Gaza to continue the war that has killed over 40,000 Palestinians and destroy large swathes of the strip.

Netanyahu, Smotrich, and Ben Gvir established their ruling coalition following elections in late 2022. Israel’s next parliamentary election is not due until 2026.

In contrast to Likud, Ben Gvir’s Jewish Power party and Smotrich’s Religious Zionism party have fallen in popularity since 7 October. Both parties would, therefore, have an incentive not to leave the government and call for early elections, Reuters reported.

On August 10, 2021, the Biden-Harris National Security Council (NSC) hosted a cozy little chat with the United Kingdom’s “ Counter Disinformation Unit ” (CDU). The occasion? An instructional session on how to manage—read: censor—COVID-related speech in the US. But why stop at the pandemic when there’s so much more to control? This wasn’t just about virus talk; it was a step-by-step guide on how to choke off the flow of any inconvenient truth that might muddy the government’s preferred narrative.

Is Israel Intentionally Attacking Aid Workers?

We’ve compiled 14 incidents where humanitarians were attacked despite giving the IDF their coordinates and being clearly identified as civilians

Despite a meticulous process in place to ensure aid worker safety in Gaza, the leading cause of death in the humanitarian sector over the last 11 months has been Israeli airstrikes.

Of the 378 aid workers killed worldwide since October 7, more than 75 percent have been killed in Gaza or the West Bank, according to the Aid Worker Security Database . The number of humanitarians killed in Palestinian territory in the last three months of 2023 was more than the deadliest full year ever recorded for aid workers.

This includes an Israeli airstrike Wednesday Sept. 11 on a school being used as a shelter in Nuseirat in Central Gaza. According to reports , 18 were killed, including children and six UNRWA aid workers, the deadliest single event for that organization since the start of the war.

Israeli attacks on aid organizations have become routine, despite systems in place to avoid humanitarian deaths. Through a process called deconfliction , aid groups coordinate with warring parties to avoid being attacked. Popular deconfliction mechanisms used by aid groups in Gaza include clearly marking their assets, arranging their movements with Israeli authorities, and sharing their location with the Israeli military.

Christopher Lockyear, Secretary General of Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), told the United Nations Security Council in February that “this pattern of attacks is either intentional or indicative of reckless incompetence.” Forty-eight hours earlier, a 120mm Israeli tank shell exploded in a MSF facility in Khan Younis, killing two people and severely injuring six others. It was the second time a MSF facility had been attacked by Israeli forces.
