According to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, Israel Has Bombed 16 Shelter Schools in the Gaza Strip Since the Start of August, 15 of Them in Northern Gaza.

These attacks resulted in the deaths of at least 217 displaced Palestinians and the injury of hundreds.

Israel Pulls Out Of Jenin, But Denies End Of West Bank Offensive

Israeli forces have pulled out of Jenin after a 10-day assault, but the military has denied it is ending its operation in the occupied West Bank.

The offensive, which has so far left at least 39 Palestinians dead, saw soldiers backed by armoured vehicles and bulldozers targeting the city and its adjacent refugee camp, forcing the flight of many of the residents.

Tensions in the West Bank were raised even further on Friday when a US citizen was reportedly shot dead by Israeli troops near Nablus.

Palestinians started returning to their Jenin homes on Friday, while those who had been trapped by the offensive were able to venture outside for the first time in more than a week.

One resident of the refugee camp said the Israelis left early in the morning.

Israeli Opposition Leader Calls For Escalation Against Lebanon

National Unity party leader Benny Gantz said that Hamas ‘is old news’ and that ‘Hezbollah is the real issue’

Israeli opposition leader and head of the National Unity party, Benny Gantz, said on 8 September that Tel Aviv should “concentrate” on escalating against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

“We have enough forces to deal with Gaza and we should concentrate on what is going on in the north,” Gantz said, adding that Iran and its “proxies” are “the real issue.”

“The time of the north has come and actually I think we are late on this,” he went on to say.

He also referred to Israel’s quick evacuation of tens of thousands of settlers from the northern border with Lebanon as a mistake.

“In Gaza, we have crossed a decisive point of the campaign. We can conduct anything we want in Gaza. We should seek to have a deal to get out our hostages but if we cannot in the coming time, a few days or few weeks, or whatever it is, we should go up north,” Gantz added. “The story of Hamas is old news.”

Tel Aviv Threatens To ‘Dissolve PA’ Over UN Push To End Occupation

The Palestinian Authority submitted a draft resolution to the UN General Assembly demanding that Israel withdraw its military from the West Bank and dismantle Jewish settlements

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has threatened to “break and dissolve” the Palestinian Authority (PA) if it moves forward with non-violent diplomatic measures at the UN to end Israel’s occupation of Palestine, the Times of Israel reported on 9 September.

Katz made the threat after the PA submitted a draft resolution to the UN General Assembly demanding that Israel be forced to implement the decisions of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.

The General Assembly will vote next week on the draft resolution, which calls for an Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories within six months, dismantling the illegal Jewish settlements, and facilitating the return of Palestinians to their land.

The resolution also calls for imposing sanctions on senior Israeli officials, blocking weapons sales to Israel if they might be used in Palestinian areas, and preventing any more foreign embassies from being established in occupied Jerusalem.

Katz ordered a set of moves to be coordinated with the US and other Israeli allies to oppose the decision, the Foreign Ministry said.

Victoria Nuland Admits US Discouraged Ukraine From Signing Peace Deal With Russia In 2022

Her comments are the latest confirmation that a peace deal was on the table in the early days of the war

Former US State Department official Victoria Nuland has acknowledged that the US discouraged Ukraine from signing a peace deal with Russia during the early days of the Russian invasion.

Nuland, who recently resigned from her post as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, made the comments in an interview that was published on YouTube on September 3.

Mikhail Zygar, an exiled Russian journalist, asked Nuland about former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet’s claim that the US and its allies blocked his efforts at mediation and reports of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson urging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky not to sign a deal.

Zygar also mentioned that David Arakhamia, a Ukrainian official who led negotiations with Russia at a meeting in Istanbul in March 2022, acknowledged last yea r that a deal was on the table at the time and that Russia’s main demand was for Ukrainian neutrality.

Wow! Nuland basically admits that Ukraine-Russia peace deal, which was close to being finalized in spring 2022, “fell apart” because US, UK & other Western governments “advised” Zelensky government that it was not “good deal” even though even members of Ukrainian delegation…

Nuland claimed the US took a hands-off approach to the negotiations when they first started and said it wasn’t until “relatively late in the game” that the Ukrainians started seeking the advice of the US and its allies.

“The Ukrainians began asking for advice on where this thing was going, and it became clear to us, clear to us and the Brits, clear to others, that Putin’s main condition was buried in an annex to this document that they were working on. And it included limits on the precise kinds of weapons systems that Ukraine could have after the deal,” Nuland said.

She said the deal would make Ukraine “neutered” as a military force and said there were no similar constraints on the Russian military. “People inside Ukraine and people outside Ukraine started asking questions about whether this was a good deal, and it was at that point that it fell apart,” Nuland said.

Boris Johnson traveled to Ukraine on April 9, 2022, and, according to Ukrainska Pravda, told Zelensky that even if Ukraine was ready to sign a deal with Russia, the “collective West” was not. Arakhamia confirmed this account in November 2023, saying that when the negotiators returned from Istanbul, Johnson visited Ukraine and “said that we would not sign anything with them at all, and let’s just fight.”

On April 20, 2022, around the time the talks broke down, then-Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkey thought a deal could be reached following the Istanbul talks, but then it got the impression that some NATO members wanted to prolong the war to weaken Russia.

Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant made a statement on 13 September denying the transfer of arms and equipment to the Palestinian Authority (PA).

Official Sources in the Israeli government and Palestinian Authority (PA) revealed the same day that Israel had sent a shipment of arms and armored vehicles to the PA for the purposes of combating Palestinian resistance fighters, Haaretz reports.

....Discontent against the PA in the West Bank has been growing exponentially in recent years, as Palestinians generally consider the organization a tool Israel uses to further the occupation.

A March 2022 poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip showed that only 27 percent of people were satisfied with the performance of the PA, while “dissatisfaction” was at 70 percent.

New York Attorney General Letitia James Produces Guide Encouraging Citizens To Flag “Misleading” Online Speech

Anybody who’s spent time in New York City (and even broader, the state) is likely to tell you – New Yorkers are empowered, alright. By their very nature.

Direct and opinionated – do they really need the government to “empower” them some more? And to do what – snitch on fellow citizens?

But that’s the gist of what New York Attorney General Letitia James is now proposing, all buzzing with buzzwords like “election misinformation” (“AI generated,” mind), and just in general, what somebody might decide to consider “misleading” online content.

“The OAG (Office of Attorney-General) will operate an Election Protection Hotline, which voters can contact to ask questions and file complaints during the voting period” – said a press release.

And while at it, waste no time. Report your fellow New Yorker now. James has announced a guide , including on how to report “AI misinformation” ahead of the presidential elections.

The “unwashed masses” might also need to be told how to actually go out of their way to “identify” that content. It’s all in the guide.

Let’s flag content pretty much arbitrarily – that’s the point NY AG James is essentially making.

The whole concept of artificial intelligence (AI) is proving – or so some think – so useful to a certain political grouping in the US, but not only. Yet it is never properly explained – and therefore understood – to people who are not directly involved in “AI” development and implementation, so it leaves a lot of room for scaremongering.

What Machine Learning (ML, a small subset of AI) is currently doing is creating more or less useful “chats” – and a lot of memes. People used to photo editing an image to create a satirical meme may now tell an “AI” generator to – just generate it.

Big difference. Still funny and obviously exaggerated satirical content.

Except now the “AI scare” narrative has been so normalized – or so James and her political comrades hope – that she can issue a “guide” like this:

Blinken said the IDF needs to make “fundamental changes” in the way they operate in the West Bank including changing the IDF rules of engagement, which determine when soldiers are allowed to use live fire

The Secretary of State said this is the second time an American citizen was killed by the IDF in the West Bank. “It’s unacceptable. It has to change. We will be making it clear to the most senior officials in the Israeli government”, he said

Blinken said that even an initial reading of the IDF inquiry shows “there are serious issues that need to be dealt with and we will insist that they be dealt with”.

Harris Is All-In On Price Controls. Economists Are Not.

It may not be the 1970s. but Kamala Harris is all-in on price control policies practiced by Presidents Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter.

Whether it’s during campaign rallies , pre-recorded interviews , or slick-looking commercials , Harris’ pitch to voters is she can force private companies like grocery stores to lower prices.

She’s portrayed a price gouging ban as a way to stop so-called bad actors from taking advantage of crises to pad their bottom lines. “More competition means lower prices for you and your families,” Harris said last month.

Economists warn the proposal would likely do the opposite.

“It could accidentally increase prices, and they will most certainly create serious shortages,” Dr. Veronique de Rugy from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University told InsideSources.

Harris’s Call For Price Controls On Groceries Is More Pandering Than Policy

In a speech last week, Vice President Kamala Harris called for a federal ban on “price gouging” on groceries. From a strictly economic standpoint, there are so many things wrong with this proposal that I don’t know where to begin.

But the worst of it isn’t in the policy analysis — it’s in what this pandering says about the chances of a serious discussion of difficult issues with the American voter.

Let’s start with the policy analysis. Even without referring to the current situation, there are three well-known problems with a ban on price gouging. First, grocery stores typically have extremely low profit-margins, on the order of 2 percent or less , reflecting their limited pricing power in a competitive industry. So this is not the right sector — if there ever is one — to target with price-controls.

Second, it is very difficult to define price gouging . How do you distinguish it from a rise in prices owing to shortfalls in supply or surges in demand?
