Top German MP Threatens X And Telegram With Bans

Germany must act to stop the dissemination of extremist content online and block major social media platforms if necessary, a senior MP from the country’s Green Party has said.

MP Anton Hofreiter, the chairman of the Bundestag’s European policy committee, made the remarks on Saturday while speaking to reporters from Funke Media Group. The politician called for tighter control over social media, up to the outright blocking of certain platforms.

“One of the biggest problems of extremism is online radicalization,” Hofreiter stated, adding that the dissemination of “anti-constitutional content on the Internet” must be stopped.

“We need to tackle the root of the problem and push back radicalization in digital space as well as in society,” he stressed.

Those social media platforms that refuse to abide by German laws and remove “extremist content” must be blocked altogether, Hofreiter argued, specifically singling out X, formerly Twitter, among the potential targets.

The Israeli army is planning forced evacuations of West Bank civilians, and the military operation in the territory is expected to last several days

The Israeli army launched its biggest operation in the occupied West Bank in over two decades early on 28 August, raiding Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas with hundreds of troops and launching airstrikes on the three cities, considered major hotbeds of resistance in the territory.

Israel has launched a large-scale military operation in the occupied West Bank’s Tulkarm late on Tuesday. Footage by Al Jazeera Arabic shows Israeli bulldozers destroying infrastructure, including sewage systems, water, and electricity networks.

The Israeli army announced in a statement early on Wednesday that its forces “have now begun an operation to counter terrorism” in Jenin and Tulkarem. Israeli forces are also operating in the Faraa camp near Tubas.

Israeli media announces this invasion, which will reportedly involve thousands of soldiers and last for days, as the largest military operation in the occupied West Bank since 2002.

Military sources told the Times of Israel that the operation is expected to last several days.

8/26 - US Completes 500th Air Delivery Of Weapons To Israel Since 7 Oct

The White House has sent 50,000 tons of weapons to Israel despite claims President Biden and VP Harris are working for a ceasefire in Gaza

The US military has completed its 500th flight airlifting over 50,000 tons of weapons and equipment to the Israeli army for its over ten-month onslaught against Palestinians in Gaza, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced on 26 August.

In addition to the weapons and equipment airlifted to Israel since 7 October, Washington has sent Tel Aviv 107 shipments of military supplies by sea.

A Defense Ministry statement said the shipments include “armored vehicles, munitions, ammunition, personal protection gear, and medical equipment, which are crucial for sustaining the IDF’s operational capabilities during the ongoing war.”

The weapons shipments – that have enabled Israel to kill over 40,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and render Gaza uninhabitable – come as White House officials claim that US presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris has been “working tirelessly” for a ceasefire agreement.

Muhammad Shehada of EuroMed Human Rights reported on 25 August that, according to multiple senior officials in Doha who were directly involved in the Israel–Gaza ceasefire talks, “There are currently no negotiations, only a sham theatre play.”

CNN: Outgunned And Outnumbered, Ukraine’s Military Is Struggling With Low Morale And Desertion

Dima never puts out a cigarette until he smokes it right down to the filter, risking burning his fingers to squeeze out one more drag. He spent years on the Ukrainian front lines. He knows the price of a good smoke.

As a battalion commander, Dima was in charge of around 800 men who fought in some of the fiercest, bloodiest battles of the war – most recently near Pokrovsk, the strategic eastern town that is now on the brink of falling to Russia.

But with most of his troops now dead or severely injured, Dima decided he’d had enough. He quit and took another job with the military – in an office in Kyiv.

Standing outside that office, chain smoking and drinking sweet coffee, he told CNN he just couldn’t handle watching his men die anymore.

Two and half years of Russia’s grinding offensive have decimated many Ukrainian units. Reinforcements are few and far between, leaving some soldiers exhausted and demoralized. The situation is particularly dire among infantry units near Pokrovsk and elsewhere on the eastern front line, where Ukraine is struggling to stop Russia’s creeping advances.

CNN spoke to six commanders and officers who are or were until recently fighting or supervising units in the area. All six said desertion and insubordination are becoming a widespread problem, especially among newly recruited soldiers.

Four of the six, including Dima, have asked for their names to be changed or withheld due to the sensitive nature of the topic and because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

“Not all mobilized soldiers are leaving their positions, but the majority are. When new guys come here, they see how difficult it is. They see a lot of enemy drones, artillery and mortars,” one unit commander currently fighting in Pokrovsk told CNN. He also asked to remain anonymous.

“They go to the positions once and if they survive, they never return. They either leave their positions, refuse to go into battle, or try to find a way to leave the army,” he added.

Unlike those who volunteered earlier in the war, many of the new recruits didn’t have a choice in entering the conflict. They were called up after Ukraine’s new mobilization law came into force in the spring and can’t leave legally until after the government introduces demobilization, unless they get special permission to do so.

Hezbollah carried out several attacks against Israeli sites on 6 September, as Israel targeted the south of Lebanon with illegal white phosphorus shells.

“The Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance targeted, at 12:15 pm on Friday 6-9-2024, the espionage equipment at the Metulla site with appropriate weapons and hit it directly,” Hezbollah said in a statement, marking its fifth operation of the day.

Hezbollah also fired rockets at the Ruwaisat al-Qarn site and “hit it directly,” it said.

The Lebanese resistance responded to recent Israeli attacks on southern Lebanese villages by targeting “buildings used by enemy soldiers in the Metulla settlement.”

Significant damage was inflicted on the building in Metulla, and a large fire broke out in it. Israeli firefighters were deployed to the scene.

Family Of American Killed By Israeli Forces In West Bank Calls For Investigation

An autopsy shows 26-year-old Aysenur Eyzi Eygi was shot in the head by an Israeli sniper

The family of an American who was killed by Israeli forces in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Friday is calling for President Biden to order an investigation into the shooting instead of relying on Israel to investigate itself.

Aysenur Eyzi Eygi, 26, was killed while protesting illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank village of Beita, a demonstration organized by the International Solidarity Movement (ISM). An autopsy report confirmed she was killed by an Israeli sniper bullet that hit her head. Eygi was taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Nablus, where she was pronounced dead.

“A US citizen, Aysenur was peacefully standing for justice when she was killed by a bullet that video shows came from an Israeli military shooter,” Eygi’s family said in a statement.

The White House said that it was “deeply disturbed” by Eygi’s killing but did not blame the shooting on Israeli forces and said it asked the Israeli government to investigate the incident.

“We welcome the White House’s statement of condolences, but given the circumstances of Aysenur’s killing, an Israeli investigation is not adequate,” Eygi’s family said. “We call on President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Secretary of State Blinken to order an independent investigation into the unlawful killing of a US citizen and to ensure full accountability for the guilty parties.”

According to Axios, Israel Is Asking Members of US Congress to Pressure South Africa To Drop Its Genocide Case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Axios: Congress to Press South Africa to Drop ICJ Genocide Case

Israel is lobbying members of Congress to press South Africa to drop its legal proceedings in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the war in Gaza, according to an Israeli foreign ministry cable obtained by Axios.

Why it matters: South Africa has until Oct. 28 to give the top UN court its arguments for continuing the case against Israel over alleged violations of the Genocide Convention during the war in Gaza.

Israeli officials say they want members of Congress to make clear to South Africa that there will be consequences for continuing to pursue the case.
Israel hopes the new coalition government in South Africa will take a different approach to Israel and the war in Gaza, the officials said.

... South Africa in late December filed a case at the ICJ accusing Israel of violating its obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention.

It alleged Israel's actions "are genocidal in character because they are intended to bring about the destruction of a substantial part" of the Palestinian population in Gaza...

Since then, the court held several hearings and issued provisional orders, most recently in May when it called on Israel to stop its military operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

The court hasn't yet started to substantially discuss South Africa's accusations of genocide but is expected to in the coming months...

On Monday, the Israeli foreign ministry sent a classified cable to the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC and to all Israeli consulates in the U.S. about South Africa's ICJ case.

"We are asking you to immediately work with lawmakers on the federal and state level, with governors and Jewish organizations to put pressure on South Africa to change its policy towards Israel and to make clear that continuing their current actions like supporting Hamas and pushing anti-Israeli moves in international courts will come with a heavy price," the cable read.

Zoom in: The Israeli diplomats were instructed to ask members of Congress to issue public statements condemning South Africa's actions against Israel and threaten that it could lead to suspending U.S. trade relations with South Africa. That's unlikely to happen because the U.S. wants to maintain its relationship with South Africa in order to counter the influence of Russia and China.

Gaza's Deputy Civil Defense Director Killed In Israeli Airstrike On Family Home

Israel also fired missiles at a tent in a school sheltering displaced Gazans on Sunday, killing at least eight Palestinians

Several people were killed in Israeli attacks on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on 8 September, coming as Israel has already killed dozens in the strip over the past 24 hours.

An Israeli airstrike targeted the Morsi family home in Jabalia camp on Sunday. Gaza’s civil defense announced that Mohammad Morsi, its deputy director for north Gaza, was killed along with three of his family members.

Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal announced “the martyrdom of Mohammad Abdelhay Morsi, the deputy director of civil defense in northern Gaza, who was killed in an Israeli strike targeting his family's home early this morning in the Al-Alami area of Jabalia."

He added that Morsi’s death brings the number of civil defense workers killed up to 83. Hundreds of others have been wounded, Bassal said.

Hostage Families: What's Unimaginable Is That These 3 Women Spent A Full 3 Minutes Talking About The Executed Hostages And Did Not Once Mention That They Were Murdered Because The IDF Approached The Tunnel They Were Held In And Their Captors Did Not Want Them To Be Rescued.

They did not once mention that 109 hostages were released through the 1st ceasefire deal, and that only 8 were freed through military operations, which also claimed the lives of soldiers and several hostages, and led to the execution of 27 hostages in captivity.

They did not once mention that THE ONLY WAY to get hostages back alive is THROUGH A DEAL!!
