Israeli Army Sets Up New Position To Control Gaza ‘For Years To Come’: Report

The position will be assumed by Israeli officer Elad Goren and will deal with 'day-to-day' civilian and security matters in Gaza

The Israeli army is planning to establish a new position within its ranks aimed at overseeing long-term control over the Gaza Strip, Hebrew news site Ynet reported on 29 August.

The decision comes “in the absence of clear strategic goals for the future of the Gaza Strip,” the Hebrew outlet wrote.

“The Israeli army began yesterday through this appointment to accept the fact that its responsibility for the Strip will continue for years and will expand, and about two million Palestinians will remain under its responsibility,” the report added.

Israeli officer Elad Goren has been chosen for this appointment, Ynet revealed. Goren is a veteran of the Defense Ministry unit, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).

According to Ynet, he will take up the same role in Gaza as the head of COGAT’s West Bank branch, Israeli General Hisham Ibrahim.

Mary Kostakidis, for years the face of television news in Australia as anchor of the SBS nightly broadcast, has been accused of supporting ethnic cleansing of Jews for two retweets about Israel’s war on Gaza, reports Joe Lauria.

For retweeting two tweets on X critical of Israel, famed Australian journalist Mary Kostakidis is facing charges of allegedly violating the country’s Racial Discrimination Act.

....When Trump was first elected I had hope that the Democrats who’d fallen asleep at the wheel under Obama would become politically engaged again and start criticizing the evils of the US empire like they did during the Bush years. But what actually happened was that while Democrats did start paying attention to politics again, they were corralled like livestock by the mass media into opposing things that had no relation to the actual realities of the US empire and how it functions in the world.

Instead of focusing on Trump’s many depravities listed above, Democrats wound up spending years shrieking about a completely fake conspiracy theory that the executive branch of the US government had been taken over by the Kremlin, only to lose interest and pretend nothing happened after the Mueller investigation failed to indict a single American over any involvement with Russia. They spent all their political energy freaking out about Trump’s mean tweets and how rude he was to members of the press, while ignoring or even praising his administration’s reckless warmongering and tyranny around the world.

So Trump has been made the central figure in US politics around whom everything revolves, and whether the election is won by those who support him or those who oppose him, the imperial status quo is guaranteed to remain unchanged. As Americans become more and more discontented with the abusive nature of their nation’s government, a man has shown up who leads both Democrats and Republicans to believe that the best way to stick it to the man is to take a highly emotional position either for him or against him. When really whether he wins or loses couldn’t matter less to those with real power.

Trump sucks all the oxygen out of the room for real discourse about real things. Under Biden at least we’ve been seeing some real opposition to real things like the US-backed atrocities in Gaza, but under Trump it was four years of both mainstream political factions screaming about made-up nonsense under the delusion that they were fighting the power.

Trump supporters are the most gullible people on earth. They’ll stare right at you as you look them in the eye and prove you lied to them in broad daylight, and then they’ll sign right up to let you do it again.

Rightists who are discontented with the American political status quo have been herded into supporting a politician who embodies that status quo as much as any other president, wrongly thinking they are waging a battle against the establishment by doing so. And this is mirrored on the other side of the imaginary partisan divide in US politics, with people making entire identities out of despising Donald Trump and acting like this makes them brave revolutionaries.

Netanyahu's 'Document Of Blood' Sabotages Gaza Ceasefire Deal: Report

Six Israeli captives in Gaza would not have been killed if Netanyahu had not issued new demands to the ceasefire deal Israel proposed in May, a senior security official says

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is responsible for the deaths of six Israeli soldiers who were killed while captives of Hamas because he sabotaged a Gaza ceasefire agreement that would have led to their release, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on 2 September.

The Hebrew newspaper reported that according to a senior Israeli security official, Israel submitted a proposal for an agreement in May that would have returned the Israeli captives and led to a ceasefire.

However, after Hamas agreed to most of its terms, the Prime Minister decided to back out of the deal. To do so, he ordered a new document to be drafted in July, which included "clarifications" to the first Israeli proposal.

According to the senior security official, the clarifications included major new conditions meant to sabotage any chance of an agreement.

The conditions included the demand that Israeli troops be allowed to continue occupying the Philadelphi Corridor, the strategic strip of land along the Gaza-Egypt border.

Biden Says Netanyahu Not Doing Enough to Get Hostage Deal

President Joe Biden has said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not doing enough to get a hostage deal and ceasefire, amid protests and general strike after six hostages were killed by Hamas.

Biden was speaking to reporters outside the White House ahead of meeting the US hostage deal negotiating team alongside Vice President Kamala Harris.

Six hostages were found dead in Gaza on Sunday by the Israeli military, prompting a hostage family group to say that Netanyahu has failed.

Biden was asked by a reporter whether he felt Netanyahu was doing enough to get the hostages home, to which he responded "no."

Biden has returned to Washington after a two-week vacation in California and at his Delaware Beach house.

Biden also told reporters that the team was "very close" to presenting a final hostage deal to Israel and Hamas.

Kamala Harris Confirms No Plans To End US Arms Shipments To Israel

US weapons shipments to Israel spiked in August, coinciding with Harris' nomination as the Democratic party's presidential candidate

US Vice President Kamala Harris said on 29 August that she would not change the US policy of supplying weapons to Israel despite calls to limit or end the shipments from her progressive supporters.

In her first interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee last week, Harris told CNN, “I’m unequivocal and unwavering in my commitment to Israel’s defense and its ability to defend itself, and that’s not going to change.”

Harris gave the interview accompanied by her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

She justified the ongoing support for Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza by rehashing false claims about 7 October, including that Hamas massacred 1,200 Israelis and systematically raped women.

“But let’s take a step back. October 7 – 1,200 people were massacred, many young people who were simply attending a music festival. Women were horribly raped,” the vice president continued.
