US Deploys Sub, Orders Aircraft Carrier To Make Haste Toward West Asia

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin reiterated his commitment to ‘defending Israel’ from the Resistance Axis during a Sunday phone call with the Israeli defense minister

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered a guided missile submarine and an aircraft carrier strike group to the region, with tensions remaining high as Israel awaits the response to its recent attacks on Tehran and Beirut.

The announcement came after a phone conversation between Austin and Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on 11 August.

Austin reiterated Washington’s “commitment to take every possible step to defend Israel and noted the strengthening of US military force posture and capabilities throughout the Middle East in light of escalating regional tensions,” Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Patrick Ryder said on Sunday in a readout of the call.

The readout states that the defense secretary ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, equipped with F-35C fighter jets, and that Austin also ordered the USS Georgia (SSGN 729) guided missile submarine to the region.

“Secretary Austin and Minister Gallant also discussed Israel's operations in Gaza and the importance of mitigating civilian harm, progress towards securing a ceasefire and the release of hostages held in Gaza, and our efforts to deter aggression by Iran, Lebanese Hizballah, and other Iran-aligned groups across the region.”

Israel's List Of 'Terrorists' Killed In Latest Massacre Exposed As Civilians

Two teachers, a deputy mayor, and victims who were killed on earlier dates with no links to the resistance were among those massacred at Al-Tabi'in school in Gaza City

The Israeli army has falsely claimed that over a dozen out of more than 100 civilians massacred in its strike on a Gaza school on 10 August were “terror operatives” belonging to Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement.

Chairman of the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor Ramy Abdu and Gaza journalist Motasem Dalloul, both of whom knew some of the victims personally, were among many who picked apart Israel's claims.
Abdu revealed via social media that two of those listed as “operatives” were, in fact, civilians who had been killed in earlier Israeli attacks.

Munther Daher, listed as a PIJ operative in Tel Aviv’s infographic of “terrorists” it said were eliminated in the attack, was a regular citizen who was killed alongside his sister on Friday, one day before the strike on the school, Abdu revealed in an X thread exposing the Israeli claims.

Yusuf al-Wadiya, listed by Israel as a Hamas operative, was also killed in his home two days before the massacre.

Another one of the names on Israel’s list is Muhammad Hamid al-Taif. He was not linked to any political activity and worked as an English teacher, but is listed as a Hamas operative.

Maduro Blocks X As Musk Feud Escalates

According to Maduro, the ban, which was directed by the Venezuelan telecommunications regulator Conatel, is a response to Musk’s behavior on the platform, which he claims included inciting “hatred, fascism, civil war, death and confrontations among Venezuelans,” thus violating Venezuelan law.

Hamas Calls For Implementation Of Ceasefire Proposal Unveiled By Biden

The US claimed Israel accepted the proposal, but Netanyahu added new demands to sabotage the deal

On Sunday, Hamas released a statement calling for the implementation of a hostage and ceasefire deal with Israel that was previously unveiled by President Biden.

President Biden unveiled the proposal on May 31, and it was backed by the UN Security Council in a resolution passed on June 10. The proposal is for a three-phase deal that, if fully implemented, would permanently end Israeli military operations in Gaza.

Biden claimed the proposal was approved by Israel, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the idea of a permanent ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. He later added new demands as a way to sabotage the chances of a deal being reached.

Hamas said that it wanted to implement the deal instead of restarting hostage negotiations to discuss new proposals, which the Palestinian group said would “provide cover for the occupation’s aggression.”

Hamas said that it “demands that the mediators present a plan to implement what they proposed to the movement… based on Biden’s vision and the UN Security Council resolution, and compel the occupation to comply.”

Hundreds of Israelis defy decades-old convention by praying, singing and raising the Israeli flag at the sacred site for Muslims

Dozens of Israelis, led by ministers, prayed at Al-Aqsa Mosque during a large raid on Tuesday, violating decades-old arrangements that stipulate only Muslims can worship at the site in Jerusalem's Old City.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who was among the crowds, said: “Our policy is to allow Jewish prayer at the Temple Mount.”

Al-Aqsa Mosque is referred to as Temple Mount in Judaism and is considered holy to Jews.

For decades, a delicate status quo has governed worship and visits to the site, permitting only Muslims to pray in its courtyards and prayer halls.

Non-Muslims have been allowed to visit under the supervision of the Waqf, a joint Jordanian-Palestinian Islamic trust that manages the mosque's affairs.

However, Israeli authorities have long bypassed the Waqf, allowing Israeli settlers and ultra-nationalists to storm the site under the protection of heavily armed forces, often preceded by the forceful removal of Muslim worshippers.

Israeli police have also been accused in recent years of allowing Jewish prayer at the site.

The Israeli government has long insisted that it remains committed to maintaining the status quo.

However, Ben Gvir’s comments on Tuesday are likely to spark condemnation from Palestinians, who have long accused Israel of attempting to undermine the mosque’s Islamic identity.

Palestinians accuse government-backed right-wing groups of working to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque into two parts, one for Jews and the other for Muslims.

Israeli organisations known as "Temple Mount groups" have facilitated raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque, pushed for an increased Jewish presence there and advocated for the destruction of the mosque and the Dome of the Rock to make way for a Third Temple.

Dozens of Temple Mount activists organise and participate in daily raids of the mosque under the protection of Israeli police....

The Palestinian Authority and Jordan both issued statements condemning the raid, calling it a violation of international law.

Israel's control of East Jerusalem, including the Old City, violates several principles of international law, which stipulate that an occupying power has no sovereignty over the territory it occupies and cannot make any permanent changes there.

Gallant Calls Netanyahu’s Goal Of ‘Total Victory’ In Gaza ‘Nonsense’

Netanyahu hit back at Gallant, saying he's adopting an 'anti-Israel narrative'

On Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s calls for “total victory” in Gaza “nonsense,” prompting a rebuke from Netanyahu.

Gallant made the comments at a hearing of the Israeli Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee when asked why Israel hasn’t invaded Lebanon.

“I hear the heroes beating the drums [of war], the ‘total victory’ and nonsense,” Gallant said, according to Haaretz . “I’ve seen this courage when it comes up for discussion. The conditions for war in Lebanon that exist today are the opposite of what they were at the beginning of the war.”

Gallant said that he wanted to take action against Hezbollah at the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza and that he wanted a preemptive strike, but he was denied. “There was a chance to attack the hive then, and now the terrorists are now swarming like bees,” he said.

In response to Gallant’s comments, Netanyahu’s office accused the defense minister of adopting an “anti-Israel narrative.” The office said in a statement that Hamas was to blame for the lack of a ceasefire deal in Gaza despite widespread acknowledgment that Netanyahu has been sabotaging the chances of an agreement.

Foreign policy chief blasts ministers’ recent remarks backing the cutting of supplies to Gaza as a pressure tactic on Hamas, urges Jerusalem to distance itself from them

The European Union foreign policy chief said Sunday the bloc should consider sanctioning far-right Israeli ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich for comments he said constitute “incitement to war crimes.”

Writing on X, Josep Borrell condemned Ben Gvir, the national security minister, for once again urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cut all aid and fuel to the Gaza Strip.

He also slammed the “sinister statements” of Smotrich, who is finance minister and a minister in the Defense Ministry, and said he supported UN rights chief Volker Turk in his condemnations. Smotrich recently remarked that starving two million Gazans by withholding aid — in order to get the Hamas hostages back — might be “justified and moral.” Turk condemned the comments and said they should be investigated and punished if found to be a crime.

Smotrich later told Kan news his comments had been misunderstood. “What I said is that we must allow in humanitarian aid because no one will let us starve Gazans, but what I also said is that morally we must condition [the entry of] humanitarian aid on a humanitarian [concession] and tell Hamas, the Gazans and the world that we allow aid in under the condition that they return our hostages,” Smotrich said.

“The hostages are languishing in the tunnels and we pamper the Gaza Strip [with aid]. In my eyes, this is immoral and unjust,” he added.

Syria’s Arab Tribes Revolt: US Bases And Allies Become Prime Targets

The current uprising in Syria’s Deir Ezzor represents the growing armed resistance of local Arab tribes against US-backed Kurdish forces who control their land and resources – potentially opening up a new front for West Asia’s Axis of Resistance.

On 7 August, a coalition of Syrian Arab tribes recaptured several key towns from US-backed Kurdish forces in the eastern countryside of Syria’s Deir Ezzor governorate. These tribesmen, led by Sheikh Ibrahim al-Hafl, launched the largest assault on Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) sites since the onset of the Arab tribal rebellion against the US-backed militia last year.

The renewed offensive has also reignited popular resistance against the US presence in the region, tracing its origins to the SDF leadership coup against the Deir Ezzor Military Council, which led to the arrest and removal of Arab leader Ahmed al-Khabil, also known as Abu Khawla.

The spark of resistance

In August 2023, the SDF’s arrest of the Deir Ezzor Military Council leader triggered a tribal uprising across several villages under SDF control – from Al-Baghouz to Al-Shuhail. This uprising quickly evolved into a more organized resistance when Sheikh Hafl announced in an audio statement the formation of a military command for the “Army of Tribes and Clans in the countryside of Deir Ezzor” last September.

Since then, Hafl has become a constant menace to the SDF, with accusations flying that the Syrian government and Iran supported him. It is an obvious attempt to discredit the Arab tribal movement, which is genuinely focused on liberating land and reclaiming resources.

These lists were so extensive that they were compiled into Word documents “due to the volume of posts.” NECP, operating from the FBI Headquarters and aided by DOJ attorneys and liaisons from five non-DOJ agencies, was responsible for vetting the information and directing actions across various field offices. They focused not only on foreign threats but also on cyber intrusions and potential criminal violations linked to election law.

Domestically, accounts like “@RSBNetwork” were flagged for issues related to election law violations, seemingly unconnected to foreign influence or cyber threats. NECP specifically instructed the San Francisco field office to send “preservation letters” to maintain relevant user information until legal actions could be formally initiated.

This pattern of surveillance and legal pressure reflects a broader governmental approach that views alleged “misinformation” as a law enforcement issue. This stance has led to significant concerns about free speech, especially given recent cases where individuals faced prosecution for online activities deemed misleading by authorities.

Nearly Two Percent Of Gaza’s Population Killed By US-Israel War Machine

About 24 percent of those killed in Gaza are young people, and 70 percent of those injured are women and children

Nearly two percent of the Gaza Strip’s entire population has been killed by Israel during its genocidal war on the strip, according to figures released on 11 August by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).

The bureau said in a statement that Israel’s war on Gaza has killed more than 39,000 Palestinians. “This constitutes around 1.8 percent of the total population in the territory,” PCBS said.

According to the data, approximately 24 percent of those killed by Israel in Gaza are youths.

The data goes on to show that 34 people have died as a result of the famine that has struck the entirety of the besieged enclave, adding that 3,500 children are at risk of death from malnutrition and shortages of food.

About 70 percent of the wounded in Gaza are women and children, PCBS revealed. It adds that 10,000 people are missing and that around two million people have been displaced.

Itamar Ben-Gvir calls for cutting fuel, aid supplies to Gaza instead of cease-fire deal

Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Sunday called any cease-fire and prisoner exchange deal with Hamas a “grave mistake.”

Israel is set to send its negotiating team to Egypt on Thursday to resume the Gaza cease-fire and prisoner swap talks with Hamas.

"We are crushing Hamas," Ben-Gvir said. "I listen not only to the opinions of officials in the security cabinet but also to the field commanders."

“Are we now going to strengthen Hamas by attending the talks [in Cairo]? It's a grave mistake by the prime minister."

The extremist minister claimed that the only way to release Israelis held captive by Hamas is through “increasing military pressure.”

“If we cut off their fuel, within a week they would be on their knees. And if we stop the [aid] trucks, within two weeks they would be on their knees. So why are we going to do a deal, especially such an irresponsible deal?” he said.

Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said early Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing mounting pressure from the US to proceed with a deal with Hamas, even if it means “the fall of his government."

According to the daily, the upcoming round of talks in Cairo is seen as “the last absolute chance” to reach a cease-fire in Gaza and regionally.

Oregon National Guard Sends Off 230 Soldiers To Iraq And Syria

The deployment comes as US bases in both countries are coming under attack

The Oregon National Guard is sending off 230 guardsmen to Iraq and Syria amid soaring tensions in the Middle East as the US is pledging to defend Israel from an expected Iranian reprisal attack.

The US has about 2,500 troops in Iraq and 900 troops occupying eastern Syria. The Oregon guardsmen are likely being sent out on a regular rotational deployment, but the move comes as the US beefs up its presence in the region.

According to KGW8 , a local NBC affiliate in Oregon, the unit is being deployed for a year and will serve as “primary artillery defenders” for the US and its partners in Iraq and Syria. The soldiers held a mobilization ceremony on Friday and were sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to undergo training before the deployment.

The US frequently deploys the National Guard to active conflicts in Iraq, Syria, and Somalia. A national movement in the US is seeking to remove the federal government’s ability to deploy the National Guard to war zones through legislation at the state level, known as the Defend the Guard Act.

The Defend the Guard Act would prohibit the federal government from deploying a state’s National Guard to a conflict zone where Congress hasn’t officially declared war, which hasn’t happened since World War II. The bill has passed through several state legislatures but has yet to become law.

Fitch Downgrades Israel’s Credit Rating, Warning War Could Last Well Into 2025 — Times of Israel

Credit rating agency also keeps outlook negative, meaning further drop possible, says ‘political fractiousness and coalition politics’ risk hampering essential corrective measures

Credit ratings agency Fitch downgraded Israel’s credit rating from A+ to A on Monday, citing worsening geopolitical risks as the Israel-Hamas war drags on.

It also kept the rating outlook negative, which means a further downgrade is possible.

“In our view, the conflict in Gaza could last well into 2025 and there are risks of it broadening to other fronts,” the ratings agency said in a statement.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich downplayed the move as “natural” amid a war and said Israel’s economy would bounce back following responsible steps he plans to advance.
