Israeli Strike On Gaza School Kills 100 People During Dawn Prayers
Videos obtained by MEE showed scores of bodies strewn across the floor of the Tabin school in Gaza City after it was targeted in an early morning strike
At least 100 Palestinian civilians, including women and children, were killed at dawn on Saturday after Israeli forces targeted a school in Gaza City whilst displaced people performed morning prayers.
Another video appeared to show dozens of bodies covered in cloths and laid out in a courtyard.
The victims of the attack were taken to the partially functioning Maamadani hospital, one of the few operating hospitals in north Gaza.
Moatasem Dalloul, an activist and resident of Gaza City, told Middle East Eye that the hospital does not have enough beds for the wounded and many are being kept in the hallways.
“Israel keeps targeting shelters, but people continue to shelter in these places because their homes have been destroyed in repeated Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip.”
aza's civil defence agency described the attacks as a “horrific massacre” and said three Israeli rockets struck the Tabin school, located in Gaza City's al-Daraj district, whilst Palestinians performed early morning Fajr prayers.
A man at the scene of the massacre, who did not give his name, told MEE: “When we entered the school, we saw body parts all over the prayer hall.”
“The Israeli occupation forces continue to commit massacres against displaced people in shelters because no one in the world is able to stop it,” Dalloul said.
“The ongoing American and western support, financially and militarily, and the silence of the international community encourage Israel to continue committing such crimes against the innocents in the Gaza Strip.”
'Two thousand-pound missile'
Mohammed al-Mughair, director of the supply department of Gaza's civil defence authority, said the Tabin School was housing around 2,400 displaced Palestinians.
“The school was targetted by three missiles, including at least one MK-84 missile, which weighs 2,000 pounds,” Mughair said.
The civil defence said the rockets targeted two floors of the school, with the first striking an area inhabited by displaced women, and the second hitting the ground floor area that was used as a prayer hall.
“The occupation army directly bombed the displaced people while they were performing the dawn prayer,” Gaza's government media office said in a statement.
“Due to the horror of the massacre and the large number of martyrs, medical teams, civil defence, and relief and emergency teams have not been able to recover the bodies of all the martyrs so far,” it added.

US To Release $3.5 Billion In Military Assistance For Israel
The State Department is set to approve the Foreign Military Financing as it is calling on Israel to investigate soldiers accused of brutally raping a Palestinian.
The State Department is set to release $ 3.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing to Israel. The massive transfer of funds comes as the White House is asking Israel to investigate claims of rape in its detention centers for Palestinians.
CNN reported speaking with multiple officials who confirmed the funds will be released. The money was allocated by Congress in the $95 billion foreign military aid bill that included $61 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel.
Foreign Military Financing (FMF) is a State Department program that gives US taxpayer dollars to foreign governments to purchase weapons from American arms dealers. However, Tel Aviv is allowed to use some of the FMF funds on Israeli-made weapons.
As the funds are used to contract with arms deals, the weapons are typically not delivered immediately.
Israel is heavily dependent on the US to arm its military, giving Washington significant leverage over Tel Aviv. Over the ten-month Israeli onslaught in Gaza, the White House has resisted domestic pressure to condition arm sales to Israel.

Judges Back Meta In Vaccine “Misinformation” Battle, Free Speech Advocates Vow To Fight On
The 9th Circuit US Court of Appeals ruled this week in favor of Meta, Facebook’s parent company. The case was brought forward by the Children’s Health Defense (CHD) over allegations that the social media giant violated free speech rights.
The lawsuit, initiated in August 2020 and later updated in December, claimed that Facebook, along with its CEO Mark Zuckerberg and two fact-checking entities, Science Feedback, and the Poynter Institute’s PolitiFact site, was complicit in an unconstitutional act of privately exercising governmental censorship. CHD alleges that Facebook, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other federal institutions, is censoring content and discussions that the government is barred from suppressing under the First Amendment.

The plaintiff specifically accused these sides of working in tandem to unfairly stifle valid attempts to discuss vaccine safety on Facebook, often through indirect yet sensorial measures like the use of warning labels. According to CHD, this type of arrangement between public entities and private corporations represents a breach of the First Amendment due to its perceived status as “state action.”
Despite these arguments, the 9th Circuit court concluded that CHD was not successful in meeting the initial requirement for state action, as the censorship inflicted was more a result of Meta’s content moderation policies and not any directive under federal law. Further, the court also asserted that CHD did not present any evidence of a binding agreement requiring Facebook to execute any particular action in response to misinformation about vaccines.
Expressing disappointment and worry, CHD CEO Mary Holland stated, “If we cannot stop the government’s joint action with Big Tech to censor unwanted information, our First Amendment is a pyrrhic victory — it means almost nothing in our real world of social media.” While she was pleased with the non-unanimous nature of the decision, Holland hinted at the possibility of appealing to the US Supreme Court after further review.

Uncommitted campaign says Democratic nominee will lead a 'more humane' policy on Gaza despite arms embargo snub
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' team has publicly disavowed suggestions that she is open to an arms embargo on Israel, a day after progressive activists described an "openness" from the vice president to discuss regulating military aid to Israel .
In a statement from Harris' campaign, the US vice president said that she "has been clear: she will always work to ensure Israel is able to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist groups".
On Thursday morning, Phil Gordon, Harris' national security advisor in her capacity as vice president, issued an additional clarification, writing on social media platform X that Harris "does not support an arms embargo on Israel".
The statements from Harris' teams are in contradiction to a statement on Wednesday issued by Layla Elabed and Abbas Alawieh, founders of the Uncommitted national movement, that has sought to push the Democratic Party to change its policies on Israel's war on Gaza.

Donald Trump’s campaign has said some of its internal communications have been hacked and suggested it was targeted by Iranian operatives.
US news website Politico reported on Saturday that it had been emailed campaign documents including internal research carried out on Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.
“These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, intended to interfere with the 2024 election,” a campaign spokesman told the BBC.
Politico said it had confirmed the authenticity of the documents. The BBC has not independently verified the claims.
The campaign did not give any further details or any evidence linking the document leak to Iranian hackers or the Iranian government.

Three Israeli Army Refusers: ‘We Will Not Participate In Genocide’
Conscientious objectors Yuval Moav, Itamar Greenberg, and Oryan Mueller explain why they are willing to go to jail in order to stand against the war.
This week, three 18-year-old conscientious objectors reported to the Israeli army’s Tel Hashomer recruitment center, near Tel Aviv, and declared their refusal to enlist in mandatory military service in protest of the occupation and the current war on Gaza. Yuval Moav, Oryan Mueller, and Itamar Greenberg were each tried and sentenced to an initial 30 days in military prison, which is likely to be extended. The only other refuseniks to have publicly opposed the draft for political reasons since October 7 — Tal Mitnick , Ben Arad , and Sophia Orr — were recently released after serving prison sentences totaling 185 days, 95 days, and 85 days respectively.
The three latest refuseniks — who are being accompanied through the refusal process by the conscientious objector network Mesarvot — each released statements prior to appearing in military court. Greenberg, who grew up in the ultra-Orthodox city of Bnei Brak, said he originally saw enlisting as a way to become more integrated into Israeli society, before coming to realize that “the door into Israeli society goes through the oppression and killing of another people.” He added: “A just society cannot be built on gun barrels.”
Moav addressed his statement to Palestinians. “In my simple act, I want to stand in solidarity with you,” he said. “I also acknowledge that I do not represent the majority opinion in my society. But in my action, I hope to raise the voice of those of us waiting for the day we can build a joint future [and] a society based on peace and equality, not occupation and apartheid.”
Mueller spoke of how revenge is the engine driving the cycle of bloodshed. “The war in Gaza is the most extreme way the State of Israel takes advantage of the urge for revenge to advance oppression and death in Israel-Palestine,” he said. “The struggle against the war is not enough. We must fight the structural mechanisms enabling it.”

Israel banned the Lebanese media outlet in November for two months claiming harm to national security
Israel approved on Sunday a proposal by Minister of Communications Shlomo Karhi to ban the Al-Mayadeen media network from working inside of Israel for a second time. The decision includes the confiscation of its equipment and the blocking of its websites.
Israeli media reported that the Minister of Communications, Shlomo Karhi, pursued a new government decision to ban the network after obtaining a "professional opinion" from security agencies and receiving approval from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Israeli government issued a previous order to block the Lebanese-based network from working in Israel in November 2023, claiming harm to Israel's national security. The order expired in January, and Al-Mayadeen resumed its work.
The decision to again block the network, viewed as sympathetic to the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, came after "the reappearance of terrorist representatives posing as journalists about two weeks ago," a spokesman for Karhi said in a statement.
In what can only be seen as a blatant attack on freedom of speech and an effort to conceal the truth, the Israeli government approved the Telecom Minister's proposal to ban #AlMayadeen, seize its equipment, and block its websites as reported by Israeli media.
