Israel previously agreed on unrestricted access to north Gaza but Netanyahu now wants armed men to be prohibited from returning to the north

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reversed a key concession made by Israel during ceasefire negotiations, CNN reported Friday, citing an Israeli source familiar with the talks.

The source said that Israel had previously agreed to allow Palestinians to have unrestricted access to north Gaza during any potential ceasefire. But last week, Netanyahu told his negotiators to add the condition that armed men aren’t allowed to enter the north.

Netanyahu included a similar condition in a list of “non-negotiable” demands he issued last Sunday. “There will be no return of thousands of armed terrorists to the northern Gaza Strip,” he said.

The CNN report said Netanyahu’s new demand could potentially upend the negotiations. The Israeli leader has made other demands aimed at sabotaging the chances of the deal.

GOP Rep Tim Burchett on Oversight Committee is 'not buying that they have nothing' for motive

The FBI conducted 200 interviews and combed through 14,000 images but said they still don't have a clear motive behind the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a campaign rally Saturday in western Pennsylvania.

Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., who's on the House Oversight Committee, told Fox News Digital that he thinks it's "bulls---" that federal investigators don't have a motive yet.

"I'm not buying that they have nothing," Burchett said Wednesday. "I don't have faith in this administration. If they (the Secret Service) don't want conspiracy theories, they have to move quickly and answer tough questions."

Burchett said they subpoenaed Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who agreed to comply, according to the Oversight Committee's post on X. A hearing is scheduled for July 22.

Thomas Crooks Pictured Almost an Hour Before He Shot Trump: Sniper Identified Gunman Acting Suspiciously Checking His Cell Phone and a Rangefinder at Rally When They Took Photo

Security service officials had would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks on their radar for more than 40 minutes before he shot Donald Trump, a new image reveals.

...Two more newly-released images also show a bicycle owned by Crooks which was recovered close to the scene, and a remote detonator which was recovered from his dead body alongside his cellphone.

It was later revealed that the detonator was connected to explosives found in his car.

The latest revelations bring more questions to the fore about the Secret Service handling of the event - after embattled boss Kimberley Cheatle bizarrely said officials considered the roof to be too risky a position to station an agent. See:

The gunman was also acting strangely around the metal detectors that attendees were forced to walk through before entering the event grounds. Witnesses said that Crooks was furiously checking his phone and operating a hunting range finder.

He attempted entry around this point but set the detector off and was refused, sources said.

Around 5:30pm, the picture of Crooks crawling on the ground was circulated to various members of the Secret Service after reports about his suspicious behavior were made to security.

Trump Rally Shooter Was Reported as a Suspicious Person an Hour Before Opening Fire, Sources Say — Was Known To Be Carrying Range Finder

Secret Service agents spotted the shooter 10 minutes before former President Donald Trump took the stage, the sources said.

The gunman who opened fire at former President Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally was reported as a suspicious person — and photographed — one hour before he began shooting, according to three sources familiar with a briefing for senators Wednesday.

Secret Service and FBI officials shared a timeline of events that revealed troubling new details about the assassination attempt and raised questions about why Secret Service officials allowed Trump to take the stage.

Thomas Matthew Crooks — who had a range finder and a backpack with him — was reported as a suspicious person one hour before he began shooting, Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said in a statement after the briefing.

“This was a 100% cover-your-ass briefing,” Barrasso said. “He had a range finder and a backpack. The Secret Service lost sight of him.”

Roughly 30 minutes after the initial suspicious person report, Pennsylvania State Police notified the Secret Service of a suspicious person at 5:51 p.m. The Secret Service notified its snipers at 5:53 p.m., the sources said.

At 6:02 p.m., Trump took the stage. At 6:09 p.m., members of the crowd notified police that Crooks, 20, was on a rooftop. Two minutes later, Crooks opened fire on Trump at 6:11 p.m.

Senators were also told that Crooks visited the site of the assassination attempt last week, the sources said.

Barrasso said Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle should be removed.

“No one has taken responsibility,” Barrasso said. “Someone has died. The [former] President was almost killed. The head of the Secret Service needs to go.”

In an interview Tuesday with ABC News, Cheatle said that she did not yet have all the details about the incident but that there was a “very short” period of time between when Crooks was identified as suspicious and when he began shooting.

Report: Trump Shooter was Spotted at Rally With Range Finder Three Hours Before Attack

At around 3 pm on Saturday, Crooks was spotted at the rally's security screening area and tried to pass through metal detectors with the rangefinder, which is used by shooters to measure distance, CNN reported. The device, which looks like a small pair of binoculars, would not have prevented him from getting into the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, but did put him on law enforcement's radar.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected calls to swiftly establish a state commission of inquiry into the October 7 disaster during a debate on the matter in the Knesset on Wednesday.

Speaking at a so-called 40-signature debate — a session the opposition can call once a month with the signatures of 40 MKs and which the prime minister is legally obliged to attend — Netanyahu compared current demands for an investigation of the October 7 massacre to bureaucratic inspections of the British military during the Napoleonic wars over 200 years ago.

The focus of the debate was the need to thoroughly investigate the failings that enabled the disaster of October 7.

Netanyahu has resisted forming a state commission of inquiry into the failings leading up to October 7 or the handling of the war. He has said investigations must wait until after the fighting ends and has repeatedly avoided committing to forming a state commission, which is the inquiry body that enjoys the broadest powers under Israeli Law. With the war now in its 10th month, pressure has been growing to begin investigating events.

Mossad Chief Says Netanyahu’s Demand May Thwart Ceasefire Deal

David Barnea has been leading the Israeli negotiation team

Mossad Director David Barnea, the Israeli official leading indirect negotiations with Hamas, said Wednesday that one of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest demands may prevent a potential ceasefire and hostage deal.

According to Haaretz, Barnea presented the security cabinet with the differences between Netanyahu and the negotiating team. He said the main problem now is Netanyahu’s insistence on creating a mechanism for Israel to monitor Palestinians returning to north Gaza during a potential ceasefire.

Israel had previously agreed to allow free movement of Palestinians so they could return to the north. But Netanyahu reversed that concession and publicly called for the agreement to prohibit armed men from entering the north.

Israeli security and military officials favor a ceasefire deal, but Netanyahu has been working to sabotage an agreement as members of his coalition government are threatening to quit, which could threaten his hold on power. Israeli officials have told the media that Netanyahu was looking to make sure a deal didn’t happen before he heads to Washington next week to address Congress and meet with President Biden.

Also on Wednesday, members of the ultra-Orthodox Shas party called on Netanyahu to reach a deal with Hamas and to ignore members of the government threatening to quit, which includes National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich....

Putin Outlines New Digital Currency Policy

The newly launched digital ruble should be fully incorporated into the Russian economy now that the test phase of its adoption is drawing to a close, President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday.

Speaking at a government meeting on economic issues, Putin said the pilot launch of the electronic currency had proved a success, and that the project is ready for wider implementation.

“The pilot launch of the digital ruble platform has shown its efficiency and functionality. And now we need to take the next step, namely to move toward a wider, full-scale implementation of the digital ruble in the economy, in business activities and in the field of finance,” the president suggested. He added that he plans to discuss the steps intended to speed up this process with regulators.

The idea of introducing a national digital currency was unveiled by the Bank of Russia in late 2020, and the digital ruble officially became operational on August 1 last year. Unlike virtual currencies such as Bitcoin, the digital ruble is an electronic form of the Russian national currency issued by the Central Bank and backed by traditional money. Regulators say that the digital ruble is intended to ease making money transfers and payments both inside and outside Russia, as it will not depend on bank restrictions such as commissions and limits.

ICJ Rules Israeli Occupation of Palestinian Land Illegal, Orders Evacuation of Settlements

The landmark case at the World Court requires Israel to cease all new settlement activities and evacuate all Jewish settlers from the occupied Palestinian territories

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued its advisory opinion on 19 July ruling that Israel’s occupation and policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, namely the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, are illegal under interntional law.

ICJ President Nawaf Salam stated: “The sustained abuse of Israel of its position as an occupying power through annexation and an assertion of permanent control over the occupied Palestinian territory and continued frustration of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination violates fundamental principles of international law and renders Israel’s presence in the occupied Palestinian territory unlawful.”

In addition to ruling that Israel’s continued presence in the occupied territories is unlawful, the court stated that Israel is under an obligation to bring its presence there to an end as soon as possible.

The ruling added that Israel must immediately cease all new settlement activities and evacuate all settlers from the occupied Palestinian territories.

Further, the State of Israel must make reparation for the damage caused to Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The court ruled as well that the UN and its member states have an obligation not to recognize Israel’s occupation as legal and must not provide Israel assistance in maintaining the occupation.

Finally, the court ruled that the UN, including the General Assembly and the Security Council, should consider steps to bring Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territory to an end as soon as possible.

In its ruling, the court affirmed previous UN resolutions stating that it is illegal under international law to acquire territory by force and change conquered territory by transferring a foreign population within its borders for settlement.

The Israeli army conquered and occupied the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza in 1967. Since that time, Israel has continued its military rule over Palestinians while confiscating occupied Palestinian land to build settlements for Israeli Jews.
