Biden Claims He’s Done More For The ‘Palestinian Community’ Than Anyone Else

The president also appeared to claim that he's only sent 'defensive weapons' to Israel even though he's shipped tens of thousands of heavy bombs

President Biden claimed in an interview published on Monday that he has done more for the “Palestinian community” than anyone else, comments that come after over nine months of his administration supporting Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza.

“I’m the guy that did more for the Palestinian community than anybody,” he said on the YouTube show 360 With Speedy.

As an example of what he’s done for the “Palestinian community,” Biden said, ” I’m the guy that opened up all the assets, I’m the guy that made sure that I got the Egyptians to open the border to let goods and medicine and food through.”

However, Biden also backed the Israeli operation to capture the Rafah border crossing on the Egypt-Gaza border, and it’s been closed ever since.

Biden also appeared to suggest in the interview that he has only provided “defensive weapons” to Israel even though his administration has shipped tens of thousands of bombs and other types of munitions.

“I sent defensive weapons,” Biden claimed. “I denied them offensive weapons that they were using 2,000lb bombs and the rest because I made it real clear they cannot use weapons that we provide them to, in fact, use in civilian areas.”

The president appeared to be referring to his administration pausing a shipment of 500-pound and 2,000-pound bombs to Israel. However, the 500-pound bombs have been approved to be delivered despite Israel continuing to drop heavy munitions on civilians.

While the administration did pause a single shipment of 2,000-pound bombs, it shipped 14,000 of them to Israel before that. Israel is still using heavy munitions on civilians, as Israeli officials told Axios that the military dropped five 2,000-pound bombs on the al-Mawasi camp over the weekend in a strike that killed at least 90 Palestinians, including many women and children. Israel said the strike targeted Mohammed Deif, Hamas’s senior military commander, but Hamas denied the claim, saying it was an excuse to massacre civilians.

Vox: The Trump Shooting Points To Shocking Secret Service Security Lapses

The attack has fueled intense scrutiny of the agency tasked with protecting him.

The recent shooting of former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally has raised serious questions about the security failures that enabled the attack.

While there was significant Secret Service presence as well as local law enforcement on the scene, a gunman was able to get onto the roof of a building about 150 meters away from Trump and fire at both him and members of the crowd. That development has prompted concerns about missteps made by the Secret Service and gaps in the coverage provided for the former president at the event.

“We are speaking of a failure,” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said in remarks about the attack...

Why there’s scrutiny over security
For events like this, the Secret Service typically designates a security perimeter. It’s then responsible for protecting and screening the buildings and people within those confines.

The shooter scaled a building just outside that perimeter, about 148 meters away from Trump’s podium. Due to its location, the Secret Service did not sweep it, CNN reported. Instead, local law enforcement was responsible for that area, the Secret Service has said.

That type of collaboration is standard and something the Secret Service often uses across different events due to the scope of resources required. “It is a fairly routine matter for all of our agencies to work jointly with the Secret Service,” Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Colonel George Bivens said at a press briefing.

Local law enforcement has noted, however, that the Secret Service was “the lead” on security. That’s left the two groups effectively trading blame about who was ultimately responsible and suggesting that there may have been gaps in communication.

Additionally, the building the gunman shot from, which belonged to a glass research company, had been identified as a possible threat by the Secret Service prior to the Trump rally, NBC News reports. Given the building’s proximity to Trump, and these revelations, questions have emerged about why the Secret Service didn’t direct local police to station officers on the roof, due to how close the building was. The Secret Service has said there was a local law enforcement team located inside the building, something experts have described as less effective for deterring a gunman than officers on the exterior.

A few people at the rally also told the press that they saw the shooter as he climbed the rooftop; they tried to tell the police... officers were warned by members of the audience about a minute and a half before the shooting began. Why those warnings went unheeded will be a key question for investigators to understand.

Also notable: The shooter had been seen pacing on the outskirts of the event, and local officers had flagged him as a suspicious individual to keep an eye on prior to the attack. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office told CNN that an officer approached the gunman on the roof, at which point the shooter pointed his weapon at the officer, forcing him to “take cover.” Law enforcement officers’ failure to apprehend the shooter before he fired multiple shots, hitting Trump in the ear, killing a member of the crowd and injuring two others, remains a major question.

Amid probes of security lapses during Assassination Attempt, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell calls for Secret Service director to resign

Local police alerted the Secret Service before former president Donald Trump’s rally Saturday that they lacked the resources to station a patrol car outside a key building where a gunman later positioned himself and shot at Trump, according to local and federal law enforcement.

Richard Goldinger, the district attorney in Butler County, Pa., where the Trump rally took place, said the Secret Service “was informed that the local police department did not have manpower to assist with securing that building.”

Goldinger’s account was confirmed by a Secret Service official briefed on the incident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to be candid about a sensitive, ongoing investigation. The security lapses surrounding the attempted assassination are now the subject of multiple federal inquiries, and on Wednesday prompted a call by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle to resign.

The Secret Service official confirmed that positioning an officer outside the building was considered one of the ways to protect against the risk that the agency prepares for at all public events — that a shooter on high ground has a clear line of sight on the president or other senior officials being protected. The building, owned by Agr International, was just outside the security perimeter for Saturday’s rally.

Authorities from a number of jurisdictions were on the ground Saturday, and officials are still determining how the building was guarded — and how the 20-year-old gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, reached the roof. But the warning from local law enforcement of insufficient manpower adds to questions about whether there was adequate security for the high-stakes presidential campaign visit

...The officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation, also said a remote trigger device was found on the roof with Crooks after he was shot. The FBI has previously said that “rudimentary” suspicious devices were found in Crooks’s vehicle, near the shooting site, and at the home where he lived with his parents. Authorities are still trying to determine why Crooks launched the attack. So far, they believe he acted alone.

Over a Quarter of Israel’s Population Contemplate Emigration: Poll

Nine months into the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, hopes for the recovery of the country's economy and security appear increasingly grim

More than a fourth of Israel’s population say they would leave the country if they could, according to a new survey published on 17 July by the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI).

The poll results show that about 25 percent of Jewish Israelis and 40 percent of Palestinians with Israeli citizenship agreed with the statement, “If I had a practical possibility to immigrate abroad, I would do so.”

Based on the most recent census figures from Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics, this would be proportional to 1,811,750 Jewish Israelis and 835,600 Palestinians with Israeli citizenship, making up more than a quarter of the country’s population.

The survey also shows that public trust in Israel’s political and military leadership has dropped dramatically. Fifty-five percent of respondents said they had low or very low trust in the army’s command, and only 26 percent expressed confidence in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

Concerning who should rule Gaza once the genocidal war ends, Jewish Israelis do not show a significant preference for any of the options available. Thirty-five percent support Palestinian civilian rule and Israeli security control, while 28 percent want to see full Israeli civilian and security control of the strip.

Only 12 percent of Jewish respondents support a US-backed plan for civilian rule by “Palestinian entities with Arab support” and Israeli security control.

The JPPI survey also sheds light on shifting attitudes toward Tel Aviv’s plans to expand the war against Lebanon, with support for the anticipated campaign dropping from 62 percent in March to 56 percent in July. Concurrent with this drop, support for a diplomatic solution with Beirut has risen, as 37 percent of Jewish Israelis and 67 percent of Palestinians with Israeli citizenship say they support a “political settlement” without expanding the war.

🚨BREAKING: Netanyahu Rejects Calls for Immediate Inquiry Into 7 October Security Failures

The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has rejected calls for an immediate independent inquiry into the security failures that allowed the deadliest attack in his country’s history.

Speaking to Israel’s parliament, Netanyahu told lawmakers: “First, I want to beat Hamas.”

A spokesperson for Netanyahu said the Israeli prime minister is not seeking to dodge an inquiry but that “the government is completely focused on winning this war”.

“What people want us to do right now, they don’t want us to go into a dramatic internal investigation while our hostages are still being held, and so many soldiers have abandoned their lives to protect the country,” said the spokesperson. "...right now we’re focused on winning this war.”

The Israeli defence minister, Yoav Gallant, had last week called for the formation of a state-commission inquiry for the 7 October attacks.

“It must examine all of us: the decision-makers and professionals, the government, the army and security services, this government – and the governments over the last decade that led to the events of 7 October,” Gallant told a military graduation ceremony, reportedly to applause.

A video of the three-hour meeting at the prime minister’s office, described in the Israeli media as “tense,” aired on television shortly afterwards, showing a series of confrontations between the bereaved families and the prime minister, who rejected their demands for an apology over his role in the security failures.

Netanyahu appeared surprised when the families described how their daughters had repeatedly warned of an impending attack, despite widespread reporting in the months since 7 October describing how the spotters were ignored when they tried to tell their commanding officers of the risk.

One participant in the meeting told Netanyahu that her daughter had “just finished her on-job training. She started her stint as an observation soldier just the week before. She came home and told us, Mum … there’s going to be an invasion.”...

The meeting marks the highest-level acknowledgment of the Israeli military’s failure to listen to the lookout unit in Nahal Oz, where dozens of soldiers were killed and others taken hostage on the 7 October

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reversed a key concession made by Israel during ceasefire negotiations, CNN reported Friday, citing an Israeli source familiar with the talks.

The source said that Israel had previously agreed to allow Palestinians to have unrestricted access to north Gaza during any potential ceasefire. But last week, Netanyahu told his negotiators to add the condition that armed men aren’t allowed to enter the north.

GOP Rep Tim Burchett on Oversight Committee is 'not buying that they have nothing' for motive

The FBI conducted 200 interviews and combed through 14,000 images but said they still don't have a clear motive behind the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a campaign rally Saturday in western Pennsylvania.

Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., who's on the House Oversight Committee, told Fox News Digital that he thinks it's "bulls---" that federal investigators don't have a motive yet.

"I'm not buying that they have nothing," Burchett said Wednesday. "I don't have faith in this administration. If they (the Secret Service) don't want conspiracy theories, they have to move quickly and answer tough questions."

Burchett said they subpoenaed Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who agreed to comply, according to the Oversight Committee's post on X. A hearing is scheduled for July 22.

Thomas Crooks Pictured Almost an Hour Before He Shot Trump: Sniper Identified Gunman Acting Suspiciously Checking His Cell Phone and a Rangefinder at Rally When They Took Photo

Security service officials had would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks on their radar for more than 40 minutes before he shot Donald Trump, a new image reveals.

...Two more newly-released images also show a bicycle owned by Crooks which was recovered close to the scene, and a remote detonator which was recovered from his dead body alongside his cellphone.

It was later revealed that the detonator was connected to explosives found in his car.

The latest revelations bring more questions to the fore about the Secret Service handling of the event - after embattled boss Kimberley Cheatle bizarrely said officials considered the roof to be too risky a position to station an agent. See:

The gunman was also acting strangely around the metal detectors that attendees were forced to walk through before entering the event grounds. Witnesses said that Crooks was furiously checking his phone and operating a hunting range finder.

He attempted entry around this point but set the detector off and was refused, sources said.

Around 5:30pm, the picture of Crooks crawling on the ground was circulated to various members of the Secret Service after reports about his suspicious behavior were made to security.

Trump Rally Shooter Was Reported as a Suspicious Person an Hour Before Opening Fire, Sources Say — Was Known To Be Carrying Range Finder

Secret Service agents spotted the shooter 10 minutes before former President Donald Trump took the stage, the sources said.

The gunman who opened fire at former President Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally was reported as a suspicious person — and photographed — one hour before he began shooting, according to three sources familiar with a briefing for senators Wednesday.

Secret Service and FBI officials shared a timeline of events that revealed troubling new details about the assassination attempt and raised questions about why Secret Service officials allowed Trump to take the stage.

Thomas Matthew Crooks — who had a range finder and a backpack with him — was reported as a suspicious person one hour before he began shooting, Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said in a statement after the briefing.

“This was a 100% cover-your-ass briefing,” Barrasso said. “He had a range finder and a backpack. The Secret Service lost sight of him.”

Roughly 30 minutes after the initial suspicious person report, Pennsylvania State Police notified the Secret Service of a suspicious person at 5:51 p.m. The Secret Service notified its snipers at 5:53 p.m., the sources said.

At 6:02 p.m., Trump took the stage. At 6:09 p.m., members of the crowd notified police that Crooks, 20, was on a rooftop. Two minutes later, Crooks opened fire on Trump at 6:11 p.m.

Senators were also told that Crooks visited the site of the assassination attempt last week, the sources said.

Barrasso said Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle should be removed.

“No one has taken responsibility,” Barrasso said. “Someone has died. The [former] President was almost killed. The head of the Secret Service needs to go.”

In an interview Tuesday with ABC News, Cheatle said that she did not yet have all the details about the incident but that there was a “very short” period of time between when Crooks was identified as suspicious and when he began shooting.

Report: Trump Shooter was Spotted at Rally With Range Finder Three Hours Before Attack

At around 3 pm on Saturday, Crooks was spotted at the rally's security screening area and tried to pass through metal detectors with the rangefinder, which is used by shooters to measure distance, CNN reported. The device, which looks like a small pair of binoculars, would not have prevented him from getting into the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, but did put him on law enforcement's radar.

Speaking at a so-called 40-signature debate — a session the opposition can call once a month with the signatures of 40 MKs and which the prime minister is legally obliged to attend — Netanyahu compared current demands for an investigation of the October 7 massacre to bureaucratic inspections of the British military during the Napoleonic wars over 200 years ago.

The focus of the debate was the need to thoroughly investigate the failings that enabled the disaster of October 7.

Netanyahu has resisted forming a state commission of inquiry into the failings leading up to October 7 or the handling of the war. He has said investigations must wait until after the fighting ends and has repeatedly avoided committing to forming a state commission, which is the inquiry body that enjoys the broadest powers under Israeli Law. With the war now in its 10th month, pressure has been growing to begin investigating events.
