MAWASI CAMP MASSACRE WITH OVER ALMOST 100 KILLED AND 280+ INJURED

In a devastating series of attacks, more than 100 people have been killed and 270 injured in Al-Mawasi, Khan Yunis. F16 aircraft... dropping bombs weighing over 500 kilograms on tents housing displaced individuals in what was designated as a safe zone.

When ambulance and civil defense teams arrived to assist, they were met with machine gun fire and missiles from Quadcopter drones, further compounding the tragedy.

The massacre has left bodies scattered, with many burned, buried, or in pieces. Civilians are aiding the overwhelmed medical and civil defense teams in transporting the injured, but efforts are hampered by continued targeting.

The Nasser Hospital, unable to cope with the influx of casualties, has declared it is no longer operational.

Christians in Occupied Jerusalem See Marked Surge in Israeli Settler Attacks

Israeli authorities have also been pursuing unjust taxes on Churches and Church property in occupied Jerusalem

Settler attacks on the Christian community in occupied Jerusalem have surged since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza, according to Hebrew reports.

Hebrew news outlet Channel 13 reported on 12 July that over the past three months, there have been at least 36 recorded incidents of violence or abuse against Christians.

This includes 17 incidents of Israeli settlers spitting on Christian worshippers, nine acts of vandalism, five assaults, and five cases of verbal abuse – all under police protection.

The government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also been imposing taxes on Churches and Church property. The Israeli government claims the taxes are routine financial matters, yet the Christian community has accused Tel Aviv of a “coordinated attack on the Christian presence in the Holy Land” and a violation of a centuries-old status quo.

“In this time, when the whole world, and the Christian world in particular, are constantly following the events in Israel, we find ourselves, once again, dealing with an attempt by authorities to drive the Christian presence out of the Holy Land,” wrote the heads of the major Christian denominations in a joint letter to Netanyahu late last month.

Earlier in June, a report released by Israeli NGO Rossing Center for Education and Dialogue reported a significant increase in Israelis attacking Christians throughout 2023.

“The ongoing shift towards the far-right, a growing sense of nationalism, and the emphasis on Israel primarily as a state for the Jewish population have collectively undermined both the legal and perceived sense of equality for any minority within the country,” the report read.

Attacks and restrictions against Christian worshippers by Israeli police are also common in the holy city.

Jordan Behind Attempted Sabotage of China-Hosted Palestinian Talks: Report

Jordanian security officers are also helping Israeli intelligence stifle resistance in the West Bank, Al-Akhbar newspaper reveals

A new report by Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar has disclosed the deep level of collaboration between Jordan and Israel since 7 October.

This collaboration includes attempts at sabotaging intra-Palestinian talks hosted by China, joint interrogations of Palestinian prisoners in the occupied West Bank, and further confirmation of a land bridge running from the Jordanian–Saudi border to the occupied Palestinian territories.

“Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas responded to an official Jordanian request that he and the Fatah movement not participate in the Palestinian dialogue [that was meant to be held] in China at the end of June,” a source close to the Palestinian presidency told Al-Akhbar on 9 July.

According to the source, the Jordanian request was made last month. Amman warned the Palestinian Authority (PA) that taking part in the meeting in China would legitimize Hamas, strengthen China’s role in the conflict while stifling the role of the PA, and present Ramallah as “cooperating” with the resistance movement.

China, Hamas, and the PA’s Fatah party confirmed on 26 April that intra-Palestinian talks would be held in the Chinese capital. Not long after, representatives from each of the rival Palestinian factions met in Beijing for dialogue.

A second meeting was scheduled for last month. On 24 June, Hamas said in a statement that the first meeting was meant to prepare for an upcoming round of talks in Beijing but that Abbas informed China of his “refusal to participate in the expanded meeting, without providing any logical justifications and without any national dialogues.”..

The Al-Akhbar report also reveals that since Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and the start of the Gaza war on 7 October, Jordanian security services have been deployed in the occupied West Bank and assisted their Israeli and PA counterparts with suppressing Palestinian resistance and interrogating prisoners.

The report cites testimonies of Palestinian prisoners who were released from Israeli prisons. According to the testimonies, prisoners were directly interrogated by Jordanian officers. It also says that Tel Aviv offered prisoners deals such as pardons in exchange for cooperation with the Jordanians or in exchange for “helping to prevent the escalation of resistance activity in the West Bank.”

Jordanian security services also continue to work alongside Israeli intelligence and US forces on the Iraq-Syria border to prevent weapons from being smuggled to the Palestinian resistance in the West Bank.

Jordan is one of the main smuggling routes for West Bank-bound weapons.

The report also further confirms the existence of a land bridge through which goods are being delivered into Israel via Jordan – which aims to circumvent the effects of the maritime blockade imposed on Israeli shipping by the Yemeni army and the Ansarallah resistance movement.

“A state of popular rage has begun to spread across Jordan after information was revealed about the [Jordanian] regime circumventing the maritime embargo imposed by the Ansar Allah movement in Yemen on the Israeli occupation,” Al-Akhbar cites informed sources in Amman as saying.

Australia’s Chief Censor Accused of Exaggerating the Rise in Online Abuse and Engaging in “Politically Charged Censorship”

Another week, another controversy involving the conduct of Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant.

Grant’s job officially is to direct efforts against misinformation and other online harms – but her actions have earned her the pejorative “titles” of the country’s “chief censor” and “censorship czar.”

The latest round of criticism aimed Grant’s way has to do with her role around last year’s failed Indigenous Voice referendum, when, according to newly unearthed documents (the result of the Institute of Public Affairs, IPA, FOIA requests) this official in fact contributed to spreading misinformation, rather than combating it – and making the dreaded “divisive debates” even worse.

It appears Grant’s tactic to shore up the policy pushed by the “yes” camp ahead of the referendum was to make unfounded claims about the number of race-related complaints her office was likely to receive from Indigenous Australians, as well as the number of racially motivated online incidents.

As the referendum, held in mid-October 2023, was approaching, Grant spoke for the Australian to, effectively, engage in fearmongering around the issue, when she said she expected this type of attack to rise ahead of the vote.

Grant also claimed at the time that levels of online abuse targeting this part of the population were already “high.”

However, the FOIA documents suggest that she was exaggerating the threat for political (and possibly funding) reasons. It has now been revealed that from January 2022 until October 2023, Grant’s office received a total of two complaints from Indigenous Australians that specifically had to do with the upcoming referendum.
