US Proxies in Syria Anxious Over Possible Damascus–Ankara Reconciliation

Despite longstanding tension with Damascus, US-backed Kurds have expressed openness to coordinating with Syria against Turkish occupation

The Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has expressed concerns over a potential advancement in reconciliation between Damascus and Ankara.

“The recent unrest in Afrin, Al-Bab, Al-Rai, and Azaz is a direct result of Turkey's closer ties with Damascus, which has demanded Turkish withdrawal from all Syrian territories,” Fathullah Husseini, representative of the AANES in Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region, told The New Arab on 3 July.

He added that Turkiye’s promise to protect armed opposition groups on its payroll, namely the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) coalition of factions, has been undermined by talks between Damascus and Ankara.

Husseini said that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the US-backed Kurdish militia linked to the AANES, has “no military plans” aimed at the city of Afrin in northeast Syria and is committed to agreements for “self-protection and anti-terrorism” with the illegal occupying US army in the country.

“Any Turkish–Syrian agreement on northwest Syria would primarily impact Kurds [negatively], including the AANES and the Kurdistan Region in Iraq, where Turkey has intensified operations against Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) bases,” Husseini warned.

He also condemned Damascus’ “limited commitment” to talks between the AANES and the Syrian government.

There is a longstanding tension between the Arabs and the US-backed Kurdish forces in northern Syria. Last year, Arab tribes rallied together in an armed rebellion against the SDF in several areas, including northeastern Deir Ezzor.

Several months earlier, AANES and SDF representatives had been holding dialogue with the Syrian government. Despite tension between Damascus and the Kurds due to the latter’s aspirations for autonomy and independence in Syria, the SDF has expressed openness to coordinating with Syria against Turkish occupation.

The deputy co-chair of the AANES Executive Council, Hassan Kocher, told Hawar news agency on Wednesday that the autonomous administration is ready for talks with Damascus and for “the liberation of [Turkish] occupied areas alongside the Syrian army.”

He warned that Ankara takes advantage of all parties to advance its agenda and that Damascus “should not be fooled by these tricks.”

“The Damascus government must know that if it enters into any alliance with Turkey, it will lose Syria, and if it is in favor of dialogue or any agreement, we are ready.” He added that dialogue between Syria and the AANES is ongoing, with the aim of “reaching any agreement and solution that achieves stability for the region and the country.”

He also said the government should “abandon” the view that the AANES is a threat to Syria.

“We do not pose any threat to any party and we are not enemies to any party. We seek to build Syria and preserve the sovereignty of the country's territories. We have always said that we are ready to liberate the occupied Syrian regions in partnership with the Syrian army,” Kocher said. ..

...Damascus has repeatedly vowed over the months that it will not move forward with talks unless there is a Turkish commitment to withdraw its forces from Syria and end support for extremist factions, namely the SNA coalition.

Iraqi-mediated Syrian–Turkish talks are expected to be held in Baghdad in the near future.

Public inquiry into alleged SAS war crimes in Afghanistan obtains a previously deleted cache of data that could hold crucial evidence.

Files were erased from a server by a UK Special Forces contractor in 2016, during a murder investigation into the SAS

But the public inquiry team has now secured backups of the server – part of a Special Forces communications system codenamed "Sonata" – believed to have been created before the files were erased.

The backups are likely to contain information about SAS operations on which members of the elite regiment were suspected of unlawfully killing unarmed Afghan detainees and civilians.

A spokesperson for the inquiry confirmed to the BBC that they had obtained the backups, adding: “We now hold the relevant material and are exploring a technical solution to retrieve and review the data to determine its relevance to the investigation.”

The spokesperson said the inquiry team was approached during several days of hearings about computer evidence last December by someone offering them access to the backups, but the inquiry declined to comment on the source of the offer.

This is the first time backups of Sonata have been obtained by investigators outside UK Special Forces, which blocked previous efforts by the Royal Military Police (RMP) to copy the server.

To the dismay of the RMP investigators, a contractor hired by UK Special Forces (UKSF) during the murder investigation in 2016 ran a program on the server designed to permanently erase previously deleted files.

This process, known as "zeroing", flew in the face of explicit instructions the RMP had given to UKSF that no data should be tampered with before the server could be copied.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud praises the Palestinian Authority for providing security to Israel.

Speaking at the European Council on Foreign Relations conference in Madrid on 5 July, the foreign minister explained that the PA has lived up to its primary responsibility to Israel under the Oslo Accords, which is to provide security to Israel.

He claimed that despite its flaws, the PA is fully capable of governing a future Palestinian state alongside its 'neighbor' Israel, in the context of Israel's full integration into the region.

He stated that Israel sought to undermine the PA in the West Bank while bolstering Hamas in Gaza before the start of the war on 7 October as part of a strategy to prevent Palestinian unity and progress toward the establishment of a state.

Prince Faisal also expressed his support for the deployment of an international force in Gaza under a UN mandate to support the Palestinian Authority (PA) after the war.

In response, the Palestinian resistance made it clear that it will not allow any international force to be deployed in Gaza, and that the future of the Palestinians will be decided only by Palestinians.

The volume of Russia’s transactions in national currencies with fellow BRICS nations is constantly growing, the envoy said on Saturday in Beijing, speaking at the 12th World Peace Forum (WPF). Morgulov highlighted that Russia-China trade turnover had reached $240 billion and that 92% of settlements were being conducted in rubles and yuans.

“We are leaving the dollar-dominated space and developing the mechanism and tools for a truly independent financial system,” the ambassador said, as cited by RIA Novosti.

Morgulov also said that introducing a new single currency is still some way off but stressed that the group – which recently expanded and now comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Iran and Egypt – is “moving in this direction.”

Last month, Russia’s Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov told media that Russia was working on creating a settlement-and-payment infrastructure together with BRICS member states’ central banks. The senior state official specified that the economic bloc was working on launching the BRICS Bridge platform for settlements in national currencies...

Russia has been promoting its own domestic payment system as a reliable alternative to SWIFT, after many of the country’s financial institutions were cut off from the Western financial network in 2022....

Moscow has also accelerated efforts to move away from SWIFT by trading with international partners using their respective national currencies. The trend has been increasingly supported by members of the BRICS group, which have shifted from using the dollar and euro for trade settlements. The share of national currencies in Russia’s settlements with BRICS countries jumped to 85% at the end of 2023, up from 26% two years ago.

Meta Expands Hate Speech Policy To Remove More Posts Targeting ‘Zionists’

Meta Platforms (META.O), opens new tab said on Tuesday it would start taking down more posts that target "Zionists", where the term is used to refer to Jewish people and Israelis rather than representing supporters of the political movement.

The Facebook and Instagram parent said in a blog post, opens new tab it would remove content "attacking 'Zionists' when it is not explicitly about the political movement" and uses antisemitic stereotypes or threatens harm through intimidation or violence directed against Jews or Israelis.

Meta's hate speech policy prohibits direct attacks on people on the basis of what it calls protected characteristics, which include race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, disability and gender identity, among others.

The social media giant said its existing policies, which treat the term "Zionist" as a proxy for Jewish or Israeli people in just two narrow circumstances, did not sufficiently address the ways people use the word more broadly.

...Meta has been criticized for years on how it handles content involving the Middle East, and those criticisms shot up further after the start of the war, with rights groups accusing the company of suppressing content supportive of Palestinians on Facebook and Instagram.

A hostage deal did not pan out.

After all, Netanyahu has been sabotaging all Hostage negotiations.

....The same day the Hostage Families account made its debut on twitter, on June 4th, Mediate ran the headline: "Biden Implies Netanyahu Is Prolonging Israel-Hamas War For His Own Political Gain".

This implication by Biden echoed what many Israelis have been saying, including a former Mossad Chief as discussed earlier in the article: Netanyahu is prolonging the war for his own political agenda (implication is against the best interests of Israelis)

From my observations, the protests by the Israeli families have gotten very little attention in American media, and in discussion by Americans. I think this is by design.

If the Israeli protests were front and center... I think there would be much more hesitation to support Netanyahu & Co, even amongst those who fashion themselves pro-Israel. More may see that Netanyahu and Israel's far right are leading Israel off a cliff

I think that many of those in America blindly in support of Netanyahu and the ruling government would potentially see things differently if they understood the opposition to Israeli leadership is being led by Israel families, and why that is happening..

Again, it is easy for the people on the right, lost in cultural conditioning and partisan expectations, to dismiss college protestors calling for a ceasefire as “blue haired marxist Hamas supporters”, but it would not be so easy to dismiss the family members of the victims of Oct 7th as Hamas.. Not that Netanyahu’s allies in the Likud party haven’t tried.

Was October 7th Allowed to Happen To Further The Greater Israel Agenda? Did The Hannibal Directive Ever End? — @PsyopDaily Original

Part 4 of The McGwire's series on Oct 7th, detailing developments along the narratives of an Israeli Intelligence Stand Down, The Hannibal Directive (which never ended), and The Greater Israel Agenda

...Since I published part 3 of this series on December 3rd, my central thesis points developed have been further substantiated.

- Repeated Warnings From Multiple Intelligence Sources, Internal and External, Were Ignored By Netanyahu

- The Hannibal Directive — Israel Killed Its Own Citizens on Oct 7th
- Netanyahu Doesn’t Care About The Hostages [Hannibal Directive Never Ended]

- The Greater Israel Agenda Would Be The Motive Driving An Intelligence Stand Down, The Attack Gives A Convenient Pretext For Ethnic Cleansing and Israeli Annexation of Gaza and West Bank

...My thesis was that Israeli leadership had existing motivations to allow Oct 7th to happen and purposely fail to act on intelligence indicating an attack was to occur, and that leadership indeed do just that. The motivation for allowing Hamas’s attack to take place was the pretext for retaliation, in the form of depopulating Gaza and paving the way for expanding Israel’s territory and establishing Jewish settlements in Gaza - in line with the Greater Israel agenda.

In this piece I aim to compile important developments along the lines of my already-developed thesis points, as it has been 6 months since I published part 3, and there has been lots of developments, such as Israel refusing to cooperate with the UN’s independent investigation of Oct 7th in April.

...Another noteworthy development that occurred towards the end of writing this piece was the IDF admitting in late May that Netanyahu “Was Warned 4 Times in 2023 About How Enemies Saw Internal Discord”, as described in a Times of Israel Headline.

...Other facets of this “war” will be covered, such as Netanyahu’s declining popularity and the growing protests in Israel led by family members of the hostages (appropriately) accusing Netanyahu of not prioritizing a hostage deal, which ties in with the Hannibal directive. As I have grown fond of saying, The Hannibal Directive never ended.

In March, high ranking Israeli officials stepped forward to condemn Netanyahu for sabotaging hostage negotiations.
