The White House reversed course and now says a ceasefire in Lebanon cannot be contingent on a deal in Gaza
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Israel was prepared to send Lebanon back to the “Stone Age” with a massive bombing campaign. The White House desperately tries to avert a major war in the Middle East but is not making progress.
After three days of meetings with top officials in Washington, Gallant told reporters that Israel preferred diplomacy but was also willing to utterly destroy Lebanon. “We do not want war, but we are preparing for every scenario. Hezbollah understands very well that we can inflict massive damage in Lebanon if a war is launched,” he said. Israel could bomb “Lebanon back to the Stone Age, but we don’t want to do it.”
Gallant’s remarks come as daily tit-for-tat exchanges between Hezbollah and Israel risk escalating into a major war that could see the US, Iran, and other militias across the Middle East enter the fray. After announcing it had “operational plans” ready for an attack, Israel has started to move some military assets from near Gaza to its northern border.
The White House has invested considerable effort into bringing the conflicts in Lebanon and Gaza to a close. However, rather than applying pressure on Tel Aviv to deescalate, Washington has tried to force Hezbollah and Hamas to accept Israeli demands. Last week, American officials told Beirut that Washington was unable to constrain Tel Aviv, in hopes the warning would convince Hezbollah to back down.

UN Rapporteur: ‘No Other Term but Genocide Can Be Used To Express Gaza Situation’
United Nations (UN) Rapporteur on the right to health Tlaleng Mofokeng expressed on Friday: “When you have a group of people who have literally been exterminated, what else is there to declare it a genocide.”
Mofokeng added in a statement reported by the Turkish Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of her participation in the 56th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva: “We know that people are trying to survive, but that’s really all they can do,” adding that there is no food, safe drinking water, and safe housing.
She noted that Gazans’ psychological health has deteriorated and stated that they are suffering from severe trauma as a result of the ongoing Israeli bombing.
Mofokeng said that information about the recent status of health facilities in Gaza still comes from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other relief organisations in this field.
“When they (hospitals) cannot get supplies and essential medicines, and when healthcare workers themselves are being killed and harassed, it makes the attacks on the right to health even more prominent,” she stated.
The rapporteur stressed that there is still no estimate regarding how long it will take to rebuild Gaza’s health infrastructure.
Mofokeng asserted the importance of a global discussion on recognising the events in Gaza as “genocide” and holding the perpetrators accountable in international courts.

A paper written by research scientists at Harvard University suggests aliens could be living underground or on the moon, or even walking among us and posing as humans.
The paper, which has not been peer-reviewed, looks at a newer, "unconventional" theory called "cryptoterrestrial" hypothesis. The paper was written by researchers with Harvard’s Human Flourishing Program, but a note at the top of the report called it a "speculative thought piece" and emphasized it’s not affiliated with the program at Harvard.
"We would also like to emphasize that we believe this hypothesis to be in all likelihood false, but nevertheless believe it still merits scientific investigation," the paper states.
What is the cryptoterrestrial hypothesis?
According to the paper, scientific discussion around unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), the official government term for UFOs, has been dominated by two main classifications: human technology (conventional terrestrial origin) or extraterrestrial origin (civilizations arriving from somewhere other than Earth).
Researchers have since considered a more unorthodox set of theories, the "ultraterrestrial" hypothesis. Included in this subset of theories is the cryptoterrestrial hypothesis, which explores the possibility of non-human intelligence living among us, either concealed underground, underwater or disguising themselves as humans.
