Police clashed last night with protesters demanding early elections who marched toward the prime minister’s home in Jerusalem and broke through barricades.

Elon Musk’s Neuralink Forced a Pregnant Employee To Work With Herpes-Infected Monkeys That Scratched Her, Lawsuit Says

A former employee at Elon Musk’s brain chip company Neuralink alleged that a monkey infected with the Herpes B virus scratched her and that she was fired after informing her superiors that she was pregnant, according to a lawsuit.

Lindsay Short, who started working at Neuralink as an animal care specialist in August 2022, accused her former company of failing to provide adequate protective gear while she was exposed to the animals — some of which were carrying a virus that could cause severe brain damage and even death in humans.

The lawsuit — filed Friday in California state court and obtained by The Post — accused Neuralink of creating a hostile work environment that included setting unrealistic deadlines and shaming employees.

Short alleged that in September 2022, a monkey reached through the bars of its cage and scratched her through her glove and “broke the skin” — which ended up “contaminating” her and “exposing her to Herpes B in the process.”

In another incident that allegedly took place in March of last year, Short claimed she was scratched across the face by a monkey that was carrying the Herpes B virus.

Israeli Lawmakers Unite To Push for Jewish Colonization of Gaza

Many in Israel view the war on Gaza as an effort to conquer new land, cleanse it of Palestinians, and settle Jews in their place

Two members of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s Jewish Power (Otzma Yehudit) party announced the establishment of a parliamentary caucus lobby for Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip, the Times of Israel reported on 17 June.

In a joint release, MKs Zvi Sukkot and Limor Son Har-Melech announced the establishment of the “Knesset Caucus for the Renewal of Settlement in the Gaza Strip.”

The Knesset members stated that the lobby, slated to launch Tuesday, is necessary to reverse the effects of the 2005 Disengagement from Gaza. The Disengagement led to the dismantling of the Gush Katif settlement bloc and four Jewish settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank.

For several years preceding the current war, religious Zionist settlers in Israel called for a war to conquer Gaza, reverse the Disengagement, and rebuild Gush Katif.

According to the two MKs, “settlement in the Gaza Strip [is] a necessary step to protect Israel’s security and ensure its future.”

“Only by a dense presence of Jewish settlements throughout Gaza will it be possible to prevent the continuation of terrorist threats and deter the enemy,” they state.

“Only settlement will bring security,” says Sukkot, a prominent settler activist who was arrested multiple times and suspected of involvement in the burning of a mosque in the occupied West Bank. “Only Jewish children playing in the Strip will make the Nova terrorists realize that they have lost.”

AI is rapidly evolving through the use of Multiple-Agent Systems (MAS). The simple explanation for this leap is that MAS are composed of multiple interacting agents, which are entities that can perceive their environment and take actions to achieve specific goals.

MAS can also compete with one another, which generally prepares them for a higher learning rate in comparison to other AI systems. Single agent systems like a software program, perform tasks independently without interaction with other agents.

In the recent NVIDIA GTC keynote conference, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang proposed a future where socioeconomic outcomes are not driven by humans, but instead are entirely based in advanced, autonomous AI utilizing MAS that can manage a project from start to finish without any human input.

“How do we build software in the future? It is unlikely that you’ll write it from scratch or write a whole bunch of Python code or anything like that…It is very likely that you assemble a team of AIs.” Huang suggested.

New Study Reveals Brain’s Fractal-Like Structure Near Phase Transition, a Finding That May Be Universal Across Species

When a magnet is heated up, it reaches a critical point where it loses magnetization. Called "criticality," this point of high complexity is reached when a physical object is transitioning smoothly from one phase into the next.

Now, a new Northwestern University study has discovered that the brain's structural features reside in the vicinity of a similar critical point—either at or close to a structural phase transition. Surprisingly, these results are consistent across brains of humans, mice and fruit flies, which suggests the finding might be universal.

Although the researchers don't know between which phases the brain's structure is transitioning, they say this new information could enable new designs for computational models of the brain's complexity and emergent phenomena.

The research was published today in Communications Physics.

..."The structure of the brain at the cellular level appears to be near a phase transition," said Northwestern's Helen Ansell, the paper's first author. "An everyday example of this is when ice melts into water. It's still water molecules, but they are undergoing a transition from solid to liquid. We certainly are not saying that the brain is near melting. In fact, we don't have a way of knowing what two phases the brain could be transitioning between. Because if it were on either side of the critical point, it wouldn't be a brain."

...For the new study, Kovács and Ansell analyzed publicly available data of 3D brain reconstructions from humans, fruit flies and mice. By examining the brain at nanoscale resolution, the researchers found the samples showcased hallmarks of physical properties associated with criticality.

One such property is the well-known, fractal-like structure of neurons. This nontrivial fractal-dimension is an example of a set of observables, called "critical exponents," that emerge when a system is close to a phase transition.

Brain cells are arranged in a fractal-like statistical pattern at different scales. When zoomed in, the fractal shapes are "self-similar," meaning that smaller parts of the sample resemble the whole sample. The sizes of various neuron segments observed are also diverse, which provides another clue. According to Kovács, self-similarity, long-range correlations and broad size distributions are all signatures of a critical state, where features are neither too organized nor too random.
