US Involved in Israeli Operation in Nuseirat That Killed Over 200 Palestinians
The Israeli military had US support in rescuing four captives from Gaza in a "complex daytime operation" in Nuseirat that killed over 200 Palestinians.
A US official told Axios that the US cell in Israel had "supported" the effort to rescue the captives.
Later, CNN reported that a US official said the American cell is a team that has been in place supporting Israel since 7 October with information gathering.
The news agency said that "a source familiar with the matter" said that there were "no US boots on the ground" during the Saturday operation.
Earlier on Saturday, the army said it had been "targeting terrorist infrastructure in the Nuseirat area", north of the town of Deir al-Balah in the centre of the besieged enclave.
The Palestinian government media office in Gaza said the death toll from Israel's attack on central Gaza had reached at least 210, with 400 more wounded.
The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that a large number of dead and wounded Palestinian had arrived at Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital. It said that most of them were children and women.
"The occupation has annihilated the Nuseirat refugee camp. Innocent and unarmed civilian were bombed in their homes. I've never seen anything like this. It's a catastrophe," local Nidal Abdo told Middle East Eye.
"I came from the camp to here in the hospital on foot. I can't describe how we fled. I saw dead children and body parts strewn all over as we fled. No one was able to assist them. I saw an elderly man killed on a animal-drawn cart.
"Nuseirat was being annihilated. It was hell."

In an initial testimony documenting the killings committed by the Israeli army in the Nuseirat camp today, the @EuroMedHR reported that the Israeli army used a ladder to enter the home of Dr. Ahmed Al-Jamal. The army immediately executed 36-year-old Fatima Al-Jamal upon encountering her on the staircase. The forces then stormed the house and executed her husband, journalist Abdullah Al-Jamal, 36, and his father, Dr. Ahmed, 74, in front of his grandchildren. The army also shot their daughter, Zainab, 27, who sustained serious injuries.

Why? Because a single ship, the North Star, is temporarily down for repairs.
Why would a single ship being down cause a shortage crisis for an entire state?
Because thanks to a ridiculous law that passed 104 years ago today, only a handful of ships are allowed to deliver goods within the US.
The Jones Act has crippled the US maritime industry, driven up the cost of living (especially in the US Islands and Alaska), killed American jobs, and made our lives worse. It is long past time to repeal it.
In order to understand the problem, let's look at how we got here:
Early on in our history, the US had the most vibrant and successful shipbuilding industry on earth. Over the years, other countries' shipbuilders became more competitive. Rather than rising to the challenge, US shipbuilding companies pushed for government to "protect" them.
This culminated in the Jones Act, introduced by Sen. Wesley Jones, who represented Washington state (and all of the shipbuilders there). This law requires that anything shipped from one part of the US to another has to be carried by a US-built, US-flagged ship.
The results of this are dramatic, and obvious for anyone who understands economics.
Because US shipbuilders have had a captive market, they stagnated. In fact, US companies found other ways to transport their goods internally, so US shipbuilders rarely even make ships anymore.
Because US companies have resorted to using less efficient means of transporting products within the US such as freight trains and trucks, the price of American goods has been made less competitive than foreign goods, which costs us jobs and money.
Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and other US islands buy most of their goods from other countries, because the Jones Act has made shipping things from mainland US too expensive. This makes it cost more to live in Alaska and the islands, and robs American companies of American customers.
Worst of all, after disasters and other crises, the Jones Act severely limits what ships can deliver relief to Americans who desperately need it, costing lives. This is why after a disaster government temporarily lifts the Jones Act for that area, proving that it's harmful and unnecessary.
And as Alaskans are experiencing right now, because there are so few Jones Act-compliant ships, if even one goes down, it can be catastrophic.
The Jones Act is a century-old act of corporate welfare for an industry it has destroyed, and an albatross around all of our necks. It is long past time to put it out on an old, Jones Act-compliant rust bucket and let it drift away.

A Russian nuclear-powered submarine, Kazan, along with three other naval vessels, will dock in Havana next week amid escalating tensions with the US over Ukraine. The vessels, including the missile frigate Admiral Gorshkov, will be in Cuba from June 12-17.
🔹 Not Carrying Nuclear Weapons: Cuba's revolutionary armed forces ministry clarified, “None of the vessels is carrying nuclear weapons, so their stopover in our country does not represent a threat to the region.”
🔹 Context of Tension: This visit comes right after US officials tracked Russian warships and aircraft heading to the Caribbean for a military exercise, a response to US support for Ukraine. Majority of US Citizens Reject Arming Israel: Poll
The White House and US Congress have sent unprecedented amounts of weapons to support Israel's genocide of the Palestinians, despite opposition from the US public
The majority of US citizens say the US government should not send weapons to Israel but should send humanitarian aid to Gaza, a poll published on 7 June by CBS News and YouGov shows.
The poll asked, “Regarding the situation with Israel and Hamas, which one of these should the US do or not do now?”
Sixty-one percent of US citizens responded, saying the US should not send weapons to Israel.
Among Democrats, 77 percent said the US should not send weapons, compared to 38 percent of Republicans.
At the same time, 62 percent of US citizens said the US should send humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, while 38 percent opposed it.
The poll highlights the weak influence of US public opinion and the strong influence of the Israel lobby and pro-Israel US officials over US foreign policy.
