US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and war cabinet minister Benny Gantz on 2 June to discuss the latest ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal unveiled late last week by US President Joe Biden...
On Friday, President Biden said the deal would “bring all the hostages home, ensure Israel's security, create a better day after in Gaza without Hamas in power, and set the stage for a political settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”
Though the deal was unveiled by President Biden, it was proposed by Israel.
However, Israeli leaders do not appear ready to accept the deal they themselves proposed and are instead committed to continuing the war.
The Times of Israel reported that “While Israeli officials have confirmed that the offer publicly laid out by Biden on Friday was, in fact, the proposal Jerusalem submitted, Israeli leaders have asserted that the war will continue until Hamas has been destroyed, and large sections of the Israeli government have criticized Biden for failing to provide clarity as to how that would be achieved.”
This forced President Biden to urge Israel to “stand behind” the deal as he laid out its details in his Friday speech.
The Times of Israel reported as well that two ultra-nationalist ministers in Prime Minister Netanyahu's ruling coalition, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich of Religious Zionism and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir of Otzma Yehudit, have vowed to bring down the government if any ceasefire deal is signed.
The two parties won 14 seats when running together in the 2022 elections and are crucial to the governing majority of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's core 64-strong coalition.
On Monday, Netanyahu invited National Security Minister Ben Gvir to a meeting to discuss the deal.
The Israel Hayom daily quoted sources in Netanyahu's office as saying that contrary to Biden's remarks, the draft does not have a clause obligating Israel to end the fighting and Netanyahu plans to show Ben Gvir that it is not an “irresponsible deal,” the source said.
... Smotrich has held a series of meetings with rabbis associated with his Religious Zionism party to discuss quitting the government, Kipa News reported.

"The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has written a report outlining the narratives around "declining dollar shares in official reserves, and increasing roles for gold holdings by central banks," which is says has been "inappropriately" generalized beyond "the actions of a small group of countries."
The report authors found global central banks and finance ministries held nearly $12 trillion of foreign exchange reserves as of the end of 2023, with nearly $7 trillion composed of U.S. dollar assets. World Gold Council data shows "global central banks purchased over 1,100 tons of gold in 2022—more than double the purchase amounts of the previous year—and maintained a similar purchase level in 2023," according to the report.
"The Fed now admits some countries are moving to gold," tech investor and former Coinbase chief technology officer Balaji Srinivasan posted to X, pointing to what the Fed says is a "small group" that "represents 3 billion people. So 37.5% of the world is moving away from dollars towards gold."

Covid vaccines could be partly to blame for the rise in excess deaths since the pandemic, scientists have suggested.
Researchers from The Netherlands analysed data from 47 Western countries and discovered there had been more than three million excess deaths since 2020, with the trend continuing despite the rollout of vaccines and containment measures.

The US State Department has seized the passport of former Marine and UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter, he told RT on Monday (June 3).
Ritter was on his way to Russia for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) when he was pulled off the plane and had his documents confiscated.
“I was boarding the flight. Three [police] officers pulled me aside. They took my passport. When asked why, they said ‘orders of the State Department’. They had no further information for me,” Ritter told RT. “They pulled my bags off the plane, then escorted me out of the airport. They kept my passport.”
Ritter is a former US Marine Corps intelligence officer, who later served as the US and UN weapons inspector in Iraq. He is also a RT contributor, writing about international security, military affairs, Russia, and the Middle East, as well as arms control and nonproliferation.

Almost two-thirds of Israelis agree that the army’s conduct in Gaza is either ‘appropriate’ or ‘hasn’t gone far enough’
Forty percent of Israelis are in favor of their army establishing control over post-war Gaza, according to a new poll published in Hebrew media.
The survey, released on 1 June by Israeli news site I24, was conducted between the end of March and the start of April.
Those forty percent are “advocating for Israel to assume control over Gaza following the ongoing conflict,” according to results obtained from 1,001 Israelis, which also show “broad support for current military actions.”
The poll also reveals that 39 percent of respondents believe that the Israeli army’s conduct in Gaza has been “appropriate.” Another 34 percent believe that the army has “not gone far enough.”
Only 19 percent said Israel’s war on Gaza has been excessive and disproportionate..

Nato is developing multiple “land corridors” to rush US troops and armour to the front lines in the event of a major European ground war with Russia.
American soldiers would land at one of five ports and be channelled along pre-planned logistical routes to confront a possible attack by Moscow, officials told The Telegraph.
It comes amid warnings from the Alliance’s top leaders that Western governments must prepare themselves for a conflict with Russia in the next two decades.
Logistical routes have become a key priority since Nato leaders agreed to prepare 300,000 troops to be kept in a state of high readiness to defend the alliance at a summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, last year.
Existing plans have US troops landing at Dutch ports before boarding trains that transport them through Germany and onwards to Poland.
