Gaza Pier Operations Suspended Indefinitely After It Breaks Apart by Heavy Seas
The US-constructed pier off Gaza is officially done—for the time being at least. It is out of commission indefinitely after a series of problems and setbacks, the latest being inclement weather and heavy seas which have literally broken it apart.
The damage from heavy seas has been enough to suspend its operations indefinitely, bringing to an end the short-lived American-led effort to establish a maritime humanitarian aid corridor to reach Gazans.
The pier was "damaged and sections of the pier need rebuilding and repairing," Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh confirmed Tuesday (May 28). The vital causeway portion was completely broken off and will have to be transferred and repaired at the Israeli port of Ashdod.
"The pier will be removed from its location on the Gaza coast over the next 48 hours and taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod," Singh explained, indicating further that the repairs will take at least a week. Aid trucks were only able to roll off of it with maritime-delivered aid over a period of a handful of days before it broke.
This comes a few days after the last disaster involving a section of the pier having broken off and drifting ashore an Israeli beach, which also saw at least two US naval support vessels get beached as well in a somewhat embarrassing moment for the costly project.
As of Tuesday, the Pentagon said the vessels were still stranded.

Recognition of Palestinian Statehood ‘No Longer Taboo for EU’: Official
Several European nations recently recognized Palestinian statehood as global outrage grows over the genocidal war in Gaza
A European diplomat told Haaretz in an interview released on 29 May that multiple EU member states are considering recognizing a Palestinian state, following the three European countries that formalized their recognition on Tuesday.
Dutch diplomat and special representative Sven Koopmans told the Israeli daily that these decisions are made by states independently and are not controlled by the EU as a whole. He notes that these decisions, however, play a kind of domino effect into a more global challenge against Israel.
“There are a few member states that are looking at this very closely and are likely to take a step soon,” Koopmans told Haaretz. He emphasized that he cannot speak on behalf of specific states but only the bloc as a whole.
He also noted to the Israeli daily that the subject of recognizing a Palestinian state was “no longer a taboo” for European governments. This is due to Tel Aviv's actions in its war on Gaza, as well as comments by senior Israeli officials against a two-state solution and in favor of eliminating the Palestinian Authority.

Ukraine Targets Radars That Are Part of Russia’s Nuclear Warning System
A Ukrainian intelligence source told Reuters that a Ukrainian drone targeted a radar deep inside Russian territory that’s part of Russia’s early-warning system to detect nuclear missiles. The incident marks the second time within a week that Ukrainian officials reported attacks on a Russian nuclear warning system, known as “Voronezh M” radars.
The source said that the strike targeted a radar near the city of Orsk in Russia’s Orenburg Oblast, which is over 900 miles away from Ukrainian-held territory. The source didn’t say if there was any damage, and Russian media reported a drone was downed in the Orenburg region and that no civilian infrastructure was hit.
On May 22, a Ukrainian drone targeted a Voronezh M radar in Russia’s Krasnodar Oblast at a radar station about 300 miles from Ukrainian-controlled territory. The US-state-funded RFE/RL reported there was damage to the radar site, citing satellite images, although Reuters said it could not verify the imagery.
While the Russian radars can track missiles fired by Ukraine, the primary function of the early-warning system is to detect intercontinental ballistic missiles to determine if Russia is coming under a nuclear attack. Ukraine’s targeting of the systems could lead to a major response from Russia or potentially a miscalculation as the attacks come at a time of unprecedented nuclear tensions between Washington and Moscow.

Denver Police Say DRONES Will Respond to 911 Calls Instead of Cops
The Denver Police Department (DPD) will soon use drones as first responders after the city cut millions from the force's budget to aid migrants.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston announced in April a plan to cut a combined $45.9 million worth of expenses from city agencies. The police department alone received a cut of $8.4 million, while the fire department's budget was slashed by $2.5 million.
A DPD spokesperson confirmed to The National Desk (TND) Tuesday drones are becoming a more substantial part of their operations and could soon replace humans for some 911 calls. The department is expected to launch its drone program within the next six months thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Denver Police Foundation. Drones could also be deployed to provide additional information about crime scenes to help police officers determine the correct response.

Netanyahu Wins Back Public Support Under Shadow of Gaza Genocide: Poll
The Israeli public is rallying behind the current premier as reports say the country's main opposition leader is expected to bolt the current government coalition
For the first time in a year, opinion polls show that a majority of the Israeli population would back Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's re-election if ballots were to be held today.
A survey presented by Channel 12 News on 29 May found that 36 percent of the electorate prefers Netanyahu over opposition leader and war cabinet member Benny Gantz when asked, “Who is better suited to serve as prime minister?”
This marks a significant month-to-month surge from April, when support for Gantz stood at 35 percent, and Netanyahu lagged behind at 29 percent.
In the new survey, the current premier is also seven points ahead of opposition leader Yair Lapid and two points ahead of former prime minister Naftali Bennett.
Netanyahu's party, Likud, also saw favorable results in the latest poll, picking up 21 of the Knesset's 120 seats. Nevertheless, Gantz's National Unity party edged ahead, taking 25 seats.
The Midgam Institute conducted the survey on Wednesday among 503 respondents via internet and phone, representing the entire population of Israel aged 18 and over.
The four-seat gap between the two parties is down from December's gap of 19 seats when National Unity led Likud 37 seats to 18.
Gantz, whom the White House has tried to present as a “moderate” alternative to Netanyahu, saw his popularity steadily rise following the events of 7 October, as discontent spread in Israel over the government's failure to recover captives held in Gaza and return tens of thousands of settlers who have fled the northern region.
However, in recent weeks, Netanyahu has seen his popularity surge as global condemnation continues to grow against Israel's campaign of genocide in Gaza. The Israeli public also rallied behind the government in the wake of twin cases at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC) targeting Israeli authorities.
Channel 12 attributed Gantz's losses to his recent “ultimatum” to bolt the government, which caused him to shed the considerable support he had accrued after joining the emergency coalition.

Alternative Media Giants Sue the Censorship Industrial Complex
🇺🇸@COVID19Up: In a new lawsuit, Webseed and Brighteon Media have accused multiple US government agencies and prominent tech companies of orchestrating a vast censorship operation aimed at suppressing dissenting viewpoints, particularly concerning COVID-19.
The defendants include the Department of State, the Global Engagement Center, the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, and tech giants such as Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook), Google, and X (formerly Twitter). Additionally, organizations like NewsGuard Technologies, the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, and the Global Disinformation Index are implicated for their roles in creating and using tools to label and suppress what they consider misinformation.
The lawsuit claims that these government entities and tech companies conspired to develop and promote censorship tools to suppress the speech of Webseed and Brighteon Media, among others. “The Government was the primary source of misinformation during the pandemic, and the Government censored dissidents and critics to hide that fact,” states Stanford University Professor J. Bhattacharya in support of the plaintiffs’ claims.
The plaintiffs argue that the government’s efforts were part of a broader strategy to silence voices that did not align with official narratives on COVID-19 and other issues. They assert that these actions were driven by an “anti-competitive animus” aimed at eliminating alternative viewpoints from the digital public square.
