Putin Warns West of ‘Major Consequences’ If Ukraine Strikes Russian Territory With NATO Missiles
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday (May 28) warned Western countries against allowing Ukraine to use long-range NATO missiles in strikes on Russian territory.
Putin pointed to comments from NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who recently suggested NATO members should lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of their weapons.
“This constant escalation can lead to serious consequences. If these serious consequences occur in Europe, how will the US behave, bearing in mind our parity in the field of strategic weapons? Hard to say. Do they want global conflict?” Putin said during a visit to Uzbekistan, according to RT.
The Russian leader said that long-range strikes would require NATO support and that it would take “highly qualified specialists” from the West to do the targeting. A recent German military leak revealed that British soldiers are “on the ground” in Ukraine helping fire Storm Shadow missiles, which have a range of about 155 miles.
“So, these representatives of NATO countries, especially in Europe, especially in small countries, must be aware of what they are playing with,” Putin said.

US State Department Resignations Mount Over Support for Israel
Half a dozen mid and senior-level US officials have resigned since October over Washington's continued support for the Israeli genocide in Gaza
Another senior US State Department official has resigned over Washington’s unchecked support for Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, specifically citing a report released by Washington earlier this month that cleared Tel Aviv of responsibility for its war crimes.
On 28 May, Stacy Gilbert, who served as the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, informed staff of her resignation. She said she believed the report above “was wrong to conclude that Israel had not obstructed humanitarian assistance to Gaza,” according to officials who read her letter.
“On the day when the White House announced that the latest atrocity in Rafah did not cross its red line, this resignation demonstrates that the Biden Administration will do anything to avoid the truth,” said Josh Paul, who resigned in October in protest of US arms transfers to Israel after serving for 11 years as Director of the State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.
“This is not just a story of bureaucratic complicity or ineptitude – there are people signing off on arms transfers, people drafting arms transfer approval memos, people turning a blind eye,” Paul added, highlighting that people “who could be speaking up, people who have an awesome responsibility to do good, and a lifelong commitment to human rights – whose choice is to let the bureaucracy function as though it were business as usual.”
Gilbert became the sixth mid- or senior-level government staffer to resign in protest of US support for Israel. Her resignation came two weeks after the first Jewish American official in the US government publicly quit in protest of President Joe Biden’s support of the genocide in Gaza.
“The President has the power to call for a lasting cease-fire, to stop sending weapons to Israel, and to condition aid. The US has used nearly no leverage throughout the last eight months to hold Israel accountable,” Lily Greenberg Call said in her resignation letter. She also chastised Biden for “making Jews the face of the American war machine.”

World’s First Bioprocessor Uses 16 Human Brain Organoids for ‘A Million Times Less Power’ Consumption Than a Digital Chip
Swiss startup claims its Neuroplatform is a first for biocomputing.
A Swiss biocomputing startup has launched an online platform that provides remote access to 16 human brain organoids. FinalSpark claims its Neuroplatform is the world’s first online platform delivering access to biological neurons in vitro. Moreover, bioprocessors like this “consume a million times less power than traditional digital processors,” the company says.
FinalSpark says its Neuroplatform is capable of learning and processing information, and due to its low power consumption, it could reduce the environmental impacts of computing. In a recent research paper about its developments, FinalSpakr claims that training a single LLM like GPT-3 required approximately 10GWh – about 6,000 times greater energy consumption than the average European citizen uses in a whole year. Such energy expenditure could be massively cut following the successful deployment of bioprocessors.
The operation of the Neuroplatform currently relies on an architecture that can be classified as wetware: the mixing of hardware, software, and biology. The main innovation delivered by the Neuroplatform is through the use of four Multi-Electrode Arrays (MEAs) housing the living tissue – organoids, which are 3D cell masses of brain tissue.
Each MEA holds four organoids, interfaced by eight electrodes used for both stimulation and recording. Data goes to-and-fro via digital analog converters (Intan RHS 32 controller) with a 30kHz sampling frequency and a 16-bit resolution. These key architectural design features are supported by a microfluidic life support system for the MEAs, and monitoring cameras. Last but not least, a software stack allows researchers to input data variables, and then read and interpret processor output.

Brazil's President Recalls Ambassador to Israel, Intensifying Diplomatic Crisis Over Gaza War
Brazilian officials say that the recall was due to Israel's 'humiliation' of the ambassador, when Israel's foreign minister summoned him on a mandatory tour of the Yad Vashem museum as a reprimand for President Lula's remarks comparing the Gaza offensive to the Holocaust
Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva withdrew his country's ambassador to Israel Frederico Meyer on Wednesday after months of tensions between the two countries over the war in Gaza.
The move was announced in Brazil's official gazette. Israel's foreign ministry stated that "an official notification about the matter has not yet been received," and that Brazil's chargé d'affaires will be summoned on Thursday.
...the Brazilian Embassy in Israel still there but without an ambassador in the post.
According to a person at Brazil's foreign ministry, the official removal comes was in response to Meyer's humiliation by Israel's Foreign Minster Israel Katz. The person, who has knowledge of the situation, spoke on condition of anonymity as he wasn't authorized to speak publicly.
Meyer has been transferred to Geneva and will join Brazil's permanent mission to the United Nations and other international organizations.
Lula has been a frequent critic of Israel's offensive in Gaza, and in February, Israel declared Lula a persona non grata after he said that "What's happening in the Gaza Strip and with the Palestinian people doesn't exist at any other historical moment. In fact, it existed when Hitler decided to kill the Jews ."

Spain, Ireland, Norway Officially Recognize Palestinian State
Irish officials say that a recent EU meeting witnessed the first ‘significant talks’ to sanction Israel
Spain, Ireland, and Norway formally recognized a Palestinian state on 28 May in a joint effort to increase international pressure to end Israel’s aggressive campaign on Gaza.
...Madrid is recognizing a unified Palestinian state, including the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital under the Palestinian National Authority, the prime minister added.
...The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs has previously said that it would upgrade its consulate in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank to an embassy and appoint an ambassador, as well as upgrade the Palestinian mission in Ireland to an embassy.
For Norway’s part, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said, “For more than 30 years, Norway has been one of the strongest advocates for a Palestinian state. Today, when Norway officially recognizes Palestine as a state, is a milestone in the relationship between Norway and Palestine.”
EU and Israeli relations have sunk due to the recognition of Palestinian statehood by two member states.

Gaza Pier Operations Suspended Indefinitely After It Breaks Apart by Heavy Seas
The US-constructed pier off Gaza is officially done—for the time being at least. It is out of commission indefinitely after a series of problems and setbacks, the latest being inclement weather and heavy seas which have literally broken it apart.
The damage from heavy seas has been enough to suspend its operations indefinitely, bringing to an end the short-lived American-led effort to establish a maritime humanitarian aid corridor to reach Gazans.
The pier was "damaged and sections of the pier need rebuilding and repairing," Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh confirmed Tuesday (May 28). The vital causeway portion was completely broken off and will have to be transferred and repaired at the Israeli port of Ashdod.
"The pier will be removed from its location on the Gaza coast over the next 48 hours and taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod," Singh explained, indicating further that the repairs will take at least a week. Aid trucks were only able to roll off of it with maritime-delivered aid over a period of a handful of days before it broke.
This comes a few days after the last disaster involving a section of the pier having broken off and drifting ashore an Israeli beach, which also saw at least two US naval support vessels get beached as well in a somewhat embarrassing moment for the costly project.
As of Tuesday, the Pentagon said the vessels were still stranded.

Recognition of Palestinian Statehood ‘No Longer Taboo for EU’: Official
Several European nations recently recognized Palestinian statehood as global outrage grows over the genocidal war in Gaza
A European diplomat told Haaretz in an interview released on 29 May that multiple EU member states are considering recognizing a Palestinian state, following the three European countries that formalized their recognition on Tuesday.
Dutch diplomat and special representative Sven Koopmans told the Israeli daily that these decisions are made by states independently and are not controlled by the EU as a whole. He notes that these decisions, however, play a kind of domino effect into a more global challenge against Israel.
“There are a few member states that are looking at this very closely and are likely to take a step soon,” Koopmans told Haaretz. He emphasized that he cannot speak on behalf of specific states but only the bloc as a whole.
He also noted to the Israeli daily that the subject of recognizing a Palestinian state was “no longer a taboo” for European governments. This is due to Tel Aviv's actions in its war on Gaza, as well as comments by senior Israeli officials against a two-state solution and in favor of eliminating the Palestinian Authority.

Ukraine Targets Radars That Are Part of Russia’s Nuclear Warning System
A Ukrainian intelligence source told Reuters that a Ukrainian drone targeted a radar deep inside Russian territory that’s part of Russia’s early-warning system to detect nuclear missiles. The incident marks the second time within a week that Ukrainian officials reported attacks on a Russian nuclear warning system, known as “Voronezh M” radars.
The source said that the strike targeted a radar near the city of Orsk in Russia’s Orenburg Oblast, which is over 900 miles away from Ukrainian-held territory. The source didn’t say if there was any damage, and Russian media reported a drone was downed in the Orenburg region and that no civilian infrastructure was hit.
On May 22, a Ukrainian drone targeted a Voronezh M radar in Russia’s Krasnodar Oblast at a radar station about 300 miles from Ukrainian-controlled territory. The US-state-funded RFE/RL reported there was damage to the radar site, citing satellite images, although Reuters said it could not verify the imagery.
While the Russian radars can track missiles fired by Ukraine, the primary function of the early-warning system is to detect intercontinental ballistic missiles to determine if Russia is coming under a nuclear attack. Ukraine’s targeting of the systems could lead to a major response from Russia or potentially a miscalculation as the attacks come at a time of unprecedented nuclear tensions between Washington and Moscow.

Denver Police Say DRONES Will Respond to 911 Calls Instead of Cops
The Denver Police Department (DPD) will soon use drones as first responders after the city cut millions from the force's budget to aid migrants.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston announced in April a plan to cut a combined $45.9 million worth of expenses from city agencies. The police department alone received a cut of $8.4 million, while the fire department's budget was slashed by $2.5 million.
A DPD spokesperson confirmed to The National Desk (TND) Tuesday drones are becoming a more substantial part of their operations and could soon replace humans for some 911 calls. The department is expected to launch its drone program within the next six months thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Denver Police Foundation. Drones could also be deployed to provide additional information about crime scenes to help police officers determine the correct response.
