Italian Deputy Prime Minister Calls for Resignation of NATO Chief

On Friday (May 24), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg joined calls for Ukraine to be able to use NATO-provided weapons to strike Russian territory, a step that would mark a major escalation in the proxy war.

This has divided the Italian government.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is silent, while Defense Minister Guido Crosetto together with Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani are criticizing the method used by the NATO secretary in announcing decisions not taken at the collegial level by member states.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, has raised the bar even higher and called for Stoltenberg's resignation.

"Never attack Russia," stressed Salvini. "If they want to go and fight in Ukraine, let Stoltenberg, Emmanuel Macron and all the bombers who want war go there. Ukraine using our weapons to kill in Russia is madness. Either this gentleman who speaks on my behalf, since he speaks on behalf of NATO, either apologizes or resigns. Because the Italian people did not give you any mandate to go and shoot in Russia."

“I don't want to leave the third world war on my doorstep to my children, therefore NATO cannot force us to kill in Russia nor can anyone force us to send Italian soldiers to fight or die in Ukraine. It is one thing to defend, one thing is to kill."

Former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte also reacted harshly:

"Stop, you are getting us into a war with Russia. You are taking us straight to World War III. Giorgia Meloni, the strategy of betting on military victory—which you are suffering passively—is leading us to war. It's crazy to think of sending us to war with Russia and its six thousand atomic warheads."

Israeli Jets Open Fire on Rafah ‘Safe Zone,’ Killing Dozens

The massacre in the Rafah tent compound was one of several Israeli attacks on displacement centers across Gaza on Sunday

At least 40 Palestinians were killed on 26 May in Israeli airstrikes on the camps in Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah.

The Israeli attack on Sunday evening, which was carried out with over six missiles, left several women and children dead.

“At least 40 were killed and others injured after occupation forces targeted, with at least eight missiles, tents of people sheltering in a displacement camp that was recently established near the UNRWA warehouses northwest of Rafah,” WAFA news agency reported.

According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, the people inside the tents – mostly women and children – were burned alive as a result of the attack. The area targeted had been designated as a safe zone by Israel and was sheltering thousands of displaced Palestinians.

EU Officials Demand Israel Comply With ICJ Order

As Israel continues to massacre Palestinian civilians across the Gaza Strip, European diplomats are finding it increasingly difficult to support the genocidal war

EU diplomats on 27 May urged Israel to comply with an order from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to “immediately halt” its offensive in Rafah, as attacks on shelters for displaced civilians have killed hundreds of Palestinians over the past three days.

Speaking ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, the bloc's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said, “Everybody agrees that the rulings of the International Court of Justice are binding, and they have to be implemented.”

These comments were echoed by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and her Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares, who said the European ministers would discuss how to “take the right measures to enforce that decision.”

Albares also participated in a joint news conference with the Norwegian and Irish foreign ministers. The three nations are set to officially recognize Palestinian statehood on Tuesday.

“We have recognized both the State of Israel and the State of Palestine precisely because we want to see a future of normalized relations between the two peoples,” Ireland’s Foreign Minister Micheal Martin told reporters.

“There can be no military solution to this conflict. And I refute absolutely any group using violence or terrorism to try and eliminate the State of Israel or to eliminate the State of Palestine as an idea or as a reality,” he added.

On Friday, the ICJ ordered Israel to immediately halt its military offensive in Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah and allow for the “unhindered entry” of humanitarian aid to the enclave. Moreover, the World Court also ordered Israeli authorities to allow “unimpeded access” to Gaza to UN genocide investigators.

In response to the ruling, Israel intensified its onslaught across the strip, bombing schools and tent compounds for displaced civilians.

Donald Trump Vowed To Toss Anti-Israel Student Protesters ‘Out of the Country’ in Meeting with Donors:

Former President Donald Trump blasted the anti-Israel protests erupting across US college campuses as a “radical revolution” and vowed to deport any foreign students involved if he were re-elected, he told donors in New York this month.

“One thing I do is [with] any student that protests — I throw them out of the country. You know, there are a lot of foreign students,” Trump told the group during a May 14 roundtable, according to the Washington Post.

“As soon as they hear that, they’re going to behave,” the defiant 2024 hopeful added.

During the meeting, at least one of the donors reportedly bemoaned the possibility that one of the student protesters could eventually rise to political power in the future.

But Trump, 77, assured the donors he would fight to end the “radical revolution” on college campuses, declaring it “has to be stopped now,” the Washington Post reported

Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt blamed President Biden for empowering the protesters in a statement to The Post Monday.

“Joe Biden has sided with radical leftist Democrats like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Talib and empowered antisemitic protestors destroying our college campuses and threatening to undermine our democracy,” Leavitt said.

“President Trump will side with Jewish Americans and American citizens, period, and he will not tolerate terrorist sympathizers on our college campuses.”

Israeli Knesset Considers Law that Will Label UN Aid Agency as ‘Terror Group’

The Israeli legislature plans to hold a vote on a bill that would name the UN Aid Agency for Palestinians (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization. Since October 7, Israel has killed hundreds of UNRWA staff in Gaza and alleged the group has ties to Hamas.

The Knesset plans to hold the preliminary vote on the law this Wednesday. MK Yulia Malinovksy explained the bill, “The purpose of this bill is to declare UNRWA as a terrorist organization for all intents and purposes as well as order the termination of the relations [and the cooperation] of the State of Israel with the agency, either directly or indirectly.”

If the law passes the initial vote, it will still have to pass the first, second, and third readings.

Since October 7, Tel Aviv has targeted UNRWA on the ground in Gaza and in the international press. Amid the Israeli onslaught, the aid agency has reported that nearly 200 of its staff have been killed in Gaza.

Israeli officials have also smeared UNRWA to give cover for its slaughter of civilians in Gaza. In January, the International Court of Justice issued a preliminary ruling that it was plausible that Tel Aviv’s mass slaughter in Gaza was a genocide. That same week, Tel Aviv claimed that UNRWA aided Hamas’s attack on Southern Israel.

Since making the allegations, Israel has been unable to produce any evidence to back its claim. An independent investigation debunked the Israeli smears against UNRWA. The agency says that Israel was able to generate the false accusations by torturing its detained staff members.

WHO BETTER TO advise the bully-in-chief, Donald Trump, on when to make war and kill people than another bully? It’s difficult, after all, to avoid the label — that of a bully — when thinking of John Bolton, the former Bush administration official-turned-Fox News pundit who Trump recently picked as his national security adviser.

“John Bolton is a bully,” José Bustani, the retired Brazilian diplomat and former head of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, told me when I reached him by phone in Paris earlier this month.

There are a number of people who claim to have been bullied or intimidated by Bolton — including Bustani. The latter’s criticisms of the famously mustachioed hawk have been public for many years now, but some of the details of his tense encounter with Bolton at the OPCW have never been reported before in English.

In early 2002, a year before the invasion of Iraq, the Bush administration was putting intense pressure on Bustani to quit as director-general of the OPCW — despite the fact that he had been unanimously re-elected to head the 145-nation body just two years earlier. His transgression? Negotiating with Saddam Hussein’s Iraq to allow OPCW weapons inspectors to make unannounced visits to that country — thereby undermining Washington’s rationale for regime change.

In 2001, then-Secretary of State Colin Powell had penned a letter to Bustani, thanking him for his “very impressive” work. By March 2002, however, Bolton — then serving as under secretary of state for Arms Control and International Security Affairs — arrived in person at the OPCW headquarters in the Hague to issue a warning to the organization’s chief. And, according to Bustani, Bolton didn’t mince words. “Cheney wants you out,” Bustani recalled Bolton saying, referring to the then-vice president of the United States. “We can’t accept your management style.”

Bolton continued, according to Bustani’s recollections: “You have 24 hours to leave the organization, and if you don’t comply with this decision by Washington, we have ways to retaliate against you.”

There was a pause.

“We know where your kids live. You have two sons in New York.”

The former head of the Mossad, Yossi Cohen, was “personally involved” in a years-long intimidation campaign against former International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Fatou Bensouda that sought to pressure the Gambian lawyer to drop an investigation into Israeli war crimes...

According to informed sources who spoke with the Guardian, Cohen's tactics were described as “increasingly persistent and threatening,” with some likening his behavior to “stalking.”...

“You should help us and let us take care of you. You don’t want to be getting into things that could compromise your security or that of your family,” Cohen allegedly told the former ICC prosecutor during one of several secret meetings.

“The Mossad also took a keen interest in Bensouda’s family members and obtained transcripts of secret recordings of her husband, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the situation. Israeli officials then attempted to use the material to discredit the prosecutor,” the UK daily reports.

On one occasion, the former Mossad chief and close ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly showed Bensouda “copies of photographs of her husband, which were taken covertly when the couple were visiting London.”

Cohen's activities were authorized “at a high level and justified on the basis the court posed a threat of prosecutions against military personnel,” a senior Israeli official told the Guardian.

The ICC case dates back to 2015 when Bensouda opened a preliminary examination into the situation in Palestine...

The formal investigation was launched years later in 2021. It culminated last week when current ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan announced he was seeking arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, among other Israeli and Palestinian officials.

In his attempt to derail the looming probe, Cohen, over the years, “ambushed” Bensouda to pressure her into dropping her preliminary investigation.

This included what the report describes as a “bizarre incident” at a New York hotel that allegedly came together thanks to the help of the former president of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Joseph Kabila.

“Bensouda was in New York in 2018 on an official visit and was meeting Kabila, then the president of the DRC, at his hotel … The meeting, however, appears to have been a setup. At a certain point, after Bensouda’s staff were asked to leave the room, Cohen entered,” three sources familiar with the matter revealed.

“The surprise appearance, they said, caused alarm to Bensouda and a group of ICC officials traveling with her,” the report adds.

In 2022, Israeli media revealed secret ties between Kabila and Cohen, including a series of undisclosed trips the former Mossad chief made to the DRC in 2019.

Israel's intimidation campaign was part of a “coordinated effort” with the government of former US president Donald Trump, as, between 2019 and 2020, the White House imposed visa restrictions and sanctions on Bensouda.

Trump's state secretary, Mike Pompeo, publicly linked the sanctions against the ICC official to the investigation into Israeli crimes in Palestine. “It’s clear the ICC is only putting Israel in [its] crosshairs for nakedly political purposes,” he said at the time.

Pompeo also accused Bensouda of having “engaged in corrupt acts for her personal benefit.”

ICC officials are once again being targeted by threats from western officials for seeking the arrest of Netanyahu and other Israeli authorities.

NATO Training for Nuclear Strikes on Russia, Senior Moscow General Warns

NATO nations are preparing for possible nuclear strikes on Russia, a senior Moscow general has warned.

Vladimir Kulishov, the first deputy director of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), and head of the country’s Border Guard Service, outlined threats that his branch has to deal with in an interview with RIA Novosti.

”NATO intelligence operations close to the Russian border are on the rise. Forces of the alliance are intensifying military training, in which they work out military scenarios against the Russian Federation, including nuclear strikes on our territory,” he told the news agency on Tuesday (May 28).

The local authority in Israel’s northern settlement of Margaliot has announced severing communication with the Israeli government and has called on the army to withdraw from the area in protest of Tel Aviv’s inability to protect settlers in the north from Hezbollah.

“The local authority in Margaliot in the Upper Galilee announces the cessation of communication with the Israeli government. The local authority in Margaliot asks the army to withdraw its forces in protest of the government’s neglect of the residents of the north,” Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported on 27 May.

“The Margaliot settlement has decided to sever contact with the Israeli government and withdraw all soldiers from Margaliot. A notification has been sent to the termination officer. Additionally, we are closing the settlement's operations center and gates. No one, including the military, will be allowed to enter or leave the settlement. The emergency squad will find another place to stay,” said Eitan Davidi, Chairman of Margaliot settlement.

“Margaliot does not need protection from Hezbollah but from the Israeli government, which is crushing the settlement with its decisions. Margaliot is directly harmed by the government … decisions, causing more damage than Hezbollah's anti-tank missiles,” he added.

The report comes as Hezbollah continues to target the settlements and military sites in Israel’s north in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance and in response to Israeli bombardment of the south of Lebanon.

Zelensky is scrambling to prove he has support from the West amid reports that even Biden is planning to attend a Hollywood fundraiser instead of the NATO-backed "Ukraine Peace Summit" (which notably doesn't include Russia).

Meanwhile, NATO Chief Stoltenberg is the latest leader in the alliance to put his support behind removing restrictions on the weapons NATO sends to Ukraine and allowing them to be used on "military targets" inside Russia.

Of course, no one wants to talk about how many Western-supplied weapons Kiev has used against "non-military targets" in Russia, or the fact that the alliance isn't remotely prepared for the escalations it is pursuing.
