Israel Will ‘Set Sights’ on Turkiye if Hamas Defeated: Erdogan
Despite harsh public criticism of Israeli officials, Ankara has been slow to end its lucrative trade ties with Tel Aviv
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned on 15 May that Israel would “target” Turkiye if victorious against the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip.
“Israel will not stop in Gaza, and if not stopped, this rogue state will eventually target Anatolia with its delusions of a promised land,” Erdogan said during a parliamentary group meeting in Ankara
“We will continue to stand by Hamas, which fights for the independence of its own land and which defends Anatolia,” the Turkish president stressed.
“On Nakba, the Day of Catastrophe, we once again declare with all our being and resources that we stand by Palestine and the Palestinian cause … We will also ensure that the perpetrators of genocide face justice,” Erdogan added.
For the past several months, the Turkish president has harshly criticized Israeli authorities for the ongoing genocide in Gaza. However, his actions trailed far behind his words, as it took over six months for Ankara to end its highly lucrative trade ties with Israel.
Days after announcing a trade freeze, the Turkish government partially walked back its decision by issuing temporary approval for the supply of construction materials to Israel. Ankara has also refrained from obstructing the flow of oil from neighboring Azerbaijan to Israel.
For its part, Tel Aviv has been quietly returning diplomats to Turkiye in recent weeks after withdrawing them months ago over “security concerns.”
Nevertheless, Turkish officials continue to send mixed signals, as earlier this week, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said his country decided to submit its declaration of official intervention in South Africa's genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Israel systematically killing thousands of innocent Palestinians and rendering a whole residential area uninhabitable is a crime against humanity, attempted genocide, and the manifestation of genocide," Fidan told reporters.

Leaked Documents Reveal Biden’s Own Officials See Him as Complicit in Gaza’s Devastating Famine
President Joe Biden and his administration have been accused of being complicit in enabling a famine in Gaza by failing to sufficiently act on repeated warnings from their own experts and aid agencies.
Interviews with current and former US Agency for International Development (USAID) and State Department officials, aid agencies working in Gaza and internal USAID documents reveal that the administration rejected or ignored pleas to use its leverage to persuade its ally Israel—the recipient of billions of dollars of US military support—to allow sufficient humanitarian aid into Gaza to stop the famine taking hold.
The former officials say the US also provided diplomatic cover for Israel to create the conditions for famine by blocking international efforts to bring about a ceasefire or alleviate the crisis, making the delivery of aid almost impossible.
“This is not just turning a blind eye to the man-made starvation of an entire population, it is direct complicity,” former State Department official Josh Paul, who resigned over US support for the war, told The Independent.

Pure Theater: The Biden–Netanyahu ’Fallout’ Over Rafah
Despite public disagreements between Washington and Tel Aviv over Gaza, ongoing US–Israel weapon supplies suggest that the discord is more media spectacle than policy shift.
With Israel appearing determined to launch a large-scale military operation in Rafah to reverse its current image of defeat in Gaza, another public confrontation – between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – intensified last week.
Biden claims to have halted the shipment of precision weapons to Israel to prevent a large operation in southern Gaza, where around 1.3 million displaced Palestinian civilians have sought shelter, while Netanyahu threatens to continue the war without Washington’s help.
In a CNN interview last week, the US president said, “I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities – that deal with that problem.”
To which Netanyahu responded that same evening, in a podcast discussion with American Jewish journalist Dan Senor, “If we have to stand alone, we will do so, because I’m the prime minister of Israel, the one and only Jewish state, and we will not go down.”
At first glance, the growing tensions between the two allies playing out in the political and media arenas seemed promising for those parties keen on ending the Palestinian bloodshed seven months after Tel Aviv launched its brutal assault on Gaza.
But the Israeli premier, who has often been caught on camera boasting about Israel’s control over the US political scene, may have won this round. Within just a few days, Biden’s warnings and threats all but dissipated.
It began with a flurry of American politicians hitting the TV circuit to lambast their sitting president for veering from Israel’s war agenda, with some US media outlets describing Biden’s decision as “encouraging antisemitism.”
US ambassador to Tel Aviv, Jack Lew, following the script of his Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, confirmed on Sunday that “fundamentally, nothing has changed in the basic relationship” – that only one batch of US munitions was frozen, but everything else continues to flow “ordinarily.”
And Biden’s meek initiative ended decisively on Tuesday when his administration informed Congress that it is planning a $1 billion weapons transfer to Israel... Continue Reading⤵️

Was a massive $300,000 AIPAC ad purchase against Republican Rep. Thomas Massie in Kentucky green-lighted by Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson? Is the Republican Party at war with itself and willing to slur its own members on spurious charges of bigotry? Also today, US Army Major, of Jewish background, resigns over Biden's Gaza policy. Renowned Jewish Scholar Detained at Detroit Airport, Interrogated by FBI on His Pro-Gaza Views
Israeli academic Ilan Pappe, a renowned Jewish philosopher and historian, reports being detained at Detroit Metro Airport after arriving in the U.S. on Monday (May 13) and interrogated by the FBI for two hours.
Amongst the questions, he was asked whether he was a Hamas supporter and whether he regarded the Israeli assault on Gaza as a "genocide."
Their inquiries were "really out of the world," Pappe said, touching on topics such as his views on Israeli actions in Gaza and his Muslim friends in America.
"Who are my Arab and Muslim friends in America...how long do I know them, what kind of relationship I have with them," was among the questions they relayed to Pappe.
Another question, he indicated, was, "Am I a Hamas supporter? do I regard the Israeli actions in Gaza a genocide? what is the solution to the "conflict" [seriously this what they asked!]."

The New York Times is now just laundering straight Israeli intelligence propaganda under the guise of "journalism". Yesterday they published a piece titled "The secret Hamas files".
Ronen Bergman, who served in Israeli military intelligence before being hired by the New York Times and has been acting as their main "reporter" on the ongoing Gaza genocide, wrote it based on documents given to him by Israeli intelligence, literally citing whatever anonymous Israeli intelligence agents tell him, and doing straight Mossad propaganda without even a hint of shame.
The other author of the piece is Adam Rasgon, who worked for the Jerusalem Post, a deranged Zionist propaganda rag that claimed killed Palestinian babies were fake dolls and "verified" the 40 beheaded babies hoax. He also worked at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a Zionist Israel lobby propaganda front founded by AIPAC. In October he co-wrote a deranged screed in the New Yorker putting a kill target on every journalist in Gaza by smearing them all as "Hamas propagandists" (see this thread: https://twitter.com/SanaSaeed/status/1719481693826875483).
Just look at the byline: "Ronen Bergman, reporting from Tel Aviv, and Adam Rasgon, reporting from Jerusalem." Both served in the Israeli military, with again Bergman serving in military intelligence. Both are deeply committed Zionists, having spent their entire lives devoted to explicitly doing propaganda for Israel. And both are being presented by the New York Times as just neutral objective reporters literally laundering an Israeli propaganda operation as they themselves admit openly in the piece. Why wouldn't they? They know nothing will happen to them. This is par for the course. This is why they were hired. It's their job to launder explicit Israeli propaganda operations.
This is considered "journalism" by the New York Times. And everyone in the media class thinks this is perfectly normal, and just gave Bergman a Pulitzer.

Gaza 2035: Netanyahu Hatches Plan to Raze and Rebuild Enclave
Israeli businessmen close to the prime minister wish to turn a destroyed Gaza into a regional trade and industrial hub under Israeli control and exploiting Palestinian natural gas and cheap labor
Documents published online lay out Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s post-war vision for the Gaza Strip, known as “Gaza 2035,” the Jerusalem Post reported on 3 May.
The plan involves keeping Gaza under long-term Israeli security control, making major investments to rebuild the devastated enclave “from nothing” with Gulf assistance, turning Gaza into a regional trade and energy hub, and exploiting cheap Palestinian labor and natural gas for the benefit of Israeli business interests.
The document refers to Gaza as an “Iranian outpost” that “sabotages emerging supply chains” while euphemistically claiming it “thwarts any future hope for the Palestinian people.”
According to the document, the plan involves three steps.
The first step is planned to last 12 months and will see Israel create “safe areas free of Hamas control” in Gaza, starting first in the north and moving to the south.
Gazan Palestinians will run the safe zones under the supervision of a coalition of Arab states, which would be responsible for providing humanitarian aid.
Step two would last five to 10 years. The Israeli military will retain control of the strip, while the Arab states will be responsible for reconstruction under a newly established Gaza Rehabilitation Authority (GRA), and Palestinians will manage the safe areas.
Reconstruction efforts will involve “rebuilding from nothing” and designing new cities from scratch, featuring modern designs and planning. This implies that the Israeli military will continue to destroy much, if not all, of Gaza through bombing and controlled demolition.
Stage three would see Palestinians “self-govern” a demilitarized Gaza while Israel retains the right to act against “security threats.”
The final step, the Jerusalem Post notes, would be for the Palestinians to “fully manage Gaza independently” and join the Abraham Accords, an agreement binding several existing Arab states in an alliance with Israel.
The Jerusalem Post claims that the plan would benefit Palestinians in Gaza by offering them employment opportunities and eventual “self-governance” – under continued Israeli security control.
Many Israeli politicians have called for all of Gaza’s 2.3 million people to be forcibly expelled to Egypt or Europe. But the plan apparently calls for some to remain in Gaza as a source of cheap labor.
The Jerusalem Post says the plan would benefit the Gulf states by offering them “defensive pacts with the US and unfettered access to Gaza’s Mediterranean ports through railways and pipelines.”
The plan aims to turn Gaza into a significant industrial port on the Mediterranean, facilitating the export of Gazan goods, Saudi oil, and other raw materials from the Gulf....
Israel would tap the natural gas fields off the coast of Gaza to provide the energy needed for industrial manufacturing. Israel has blocked the development of the fields, which legally belong to Palestinians, for decades.
The Jerusalem Post adds that the plan included a proposal to manufacture electric cars in the free trade zone and complete with “cheap Chinese manufacturing,” further suggesting cheap Palestinian labor from Gaza would be critical to the proposal.
Israeli business interests would likely benefit most...
NYT added that the officials said the plan was “under consideration at the highest levels of Israel’s government.”
Any Israeli plan for post-war Gaza would also need to accommodate the demands of Israel’s far-right religious settler community, which demands colonizing Gaza and constructing Jewish settlements there after the war.

North Carolina Could Ban Face Masks in Public
🇺🇸😷@COVID19Up: The North Carolina state Senate voted along party lines Wednesday (May 15) to ban anyone from wearing masks in public, even for health reasons.
Republican supporters of the ban said it would help law enforcement crack down on protesters who wear masks. They say demonstrators are abusing COVID-19 pandemic-era practices to hide their identities following a wave of pro-Palestine protests nationwide and at North Carolina universities.
The bill goes even further and repeals an exception that’s been state law since the early stages of the pandemic that allows people to wear masks in public for health and safety reasons.
30 senators voted in favor of House Bill 237, while 15 opposed it and 5 were absent.

Iran, India Move Forward With Port Deal in Face of US Sanctions
India seeks to expand trade to Russia and Europe via the port, while Iran wishes to bypass US sanctions
India expects to secure a “long-term arrangement” with Iran to manage the Iranian port of Chabahar, Reuters reported on 13 May, as India seeks to expand exports to central Asia and Europe.
India has been developing part of the port in Chabahar on Iran’s southeastern coast to export goods to Iran, Afghanistan, and central Asian countries while bypassing Pakistani ports in Karachi and Gwadar. India and Pakistan have been enemies since the partition of British-occupied India created the Muslim state of Pakistan in 1947.
Thus far, India has managed the Chabahar port under short-term contracts, which must be renewed regularly. The uncertainty about future operations this has caused, and the complications of engaging in trade with Iran due to US sanctions, has discouraged significant investment in the port.
“As and when a long-term arrangement is concluded, it will clear the pathway for bigger investments to be made in the port,” Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar told reporters in Mumbai.
A source speaking with Reuters said Indian Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is traveling to Iran to witness the signing of a “crucial contract” that would ensure a long-term lease of the port to India.
The contract is expected to last ten years and will give India management control over a part of the port.
Expanded trade via the Chabahar port will help India expand trade to both central Asia and Europe.
Business Standard reports that Chabahar is also part of the proposed International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC), a mixed sea and land transport route linking the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea via Iran and onward to northern Europe via Saint Petersburg in Russia.
Exporting goods through the INSTC via Chabahar Port is expected to reduce transit times between India and Europe by 15 days compared to the Suez Canal route.
Chabahar will also allow Iran to bypass US sanctions and allow Afghanistan better access to the Indian Ocean.

Israeli Defense Minister Challenges Netanyahu on Long-Term Plan for Gaza
Ben Gvir and other Israeli politicians are calling for Gallant to be fired for saying non-Hamas Palestinian rule should be established
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Wednesday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must formulate a plan for a post-war Gaza and reject the idea of Israeli military rule.
Gallant said that if non-Hamas Palestinian rule doesn’t get established, Hamas will be able to re-establish itself in areas where its military has been dismantled. “As long as Hamas retains control over civilian life in Gaza, it may rebuild and strengthen [itself], thus requiring the IDF to return and fight in areas where it has already operated.”
“In the absence of such an alternative, only two negative options remain: Hamas’ rule in Gaza or Israeli military rule in Gaza. The meaning of indecision is choosing one of the negative options,” Gallant added.
The Israeli defense minister said that he has repeatedly brought up the issue with the Israeli security cabinet but that his concerns have been ignored. Gallant said he would not “agree to the establishment of Israeli military rule in Gaza” and called on Netanyahu to reject the idea of a military occupation “even with the possibility of personal or political costs.”
Netanyahu has said Israel must maintain security control over Gaza indefinitely and has strongly rejected the idea of establishing a Palestinian state. [Thats why he funded Hamas after all] Netanyahu hit back at Gallant, saying he is not “willing to replace Hamastan with Fatahstan,” referring to Fatah, the political faction that heads the Palestinian Authority.
Netanyahu said the issue of post-war Gaza shouldn’t be discussed until Hamas is defeated, a goal that the US believes is unrealistic. “Therefore, the first condition for replacing Hamas with another factor is to destroy Hamas – and to do it without excuses,” he said.
Some Israeli ministers and lawmakers have called for Gallant to be fired over his remarks, including Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, leader of the Jewish Power party.
“From Gallant’s point of view, there is no difference between whether Gaza is controlled by IDF soldiers or whether Hamas murderers control it,” Ben Gvir said. “This is the essence of the conception of a defense minister who failed on October 7, and continues to fail even now. Such a defense minister must be replaced in order to achieve the goals of the war.”

Biden Announces ‘Major Step’ Toward Reclassifying Marijuana
The Biden administration announced Thursday (May 16) it had initiated the formal rulemaking process to reschedule marijuana to Schedule III from its Schedule I designation that it has held for over 50 years.
This announcement follows the Department of Justice’s announcement last month that if planned to proceed with rescheduling marijuana to Schedule III which the Department of Health and Human Services had recommended last year.
“This is monumental. Today my administration took a major step to reclassify marijuana from a schedule one drug to a schedule three drug. It’s an important move toward reversing long-standing inequities,” Biden said in a statement.
“Today’s announcement builds on the work we’ve already done to pardon a record number of federal offenses for simple possession of marijuana. And it adds to the action we’ve taken to lift barriers to housing, employment, small business loans, and so much more for tens of thousands of Americans,” he added.

‘Forever Chemicals’ Entering Great Lakes Through Precipitation and Air: Study
Toxic “forever chemicals” are entering the Great Lakes through both precipitation and the air—reaching cities of all sizes along the U.S. and Canadian shores, a new study has found.
Levels of the compounds—per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)—remain uniform in precipitation across the lakes but vary in the air depending on the location, according to the study, published on Thursday (May 16) in Environmental Science & Technology.
“The levels in precipitation don’t depend on the population,” first author Chunjie Xia, a postdoctoral associate at Indiana University Bloomington, said in a statement. “They are similar in Chicago, which is heavily populated, and at Eagle Harbor, Michigan, where there’s maybe 500 people living in a 25-kilometer radius.”
“That tells us the levels are ubiquitous,” Xia continued. “This is the first time we’ve seen that. We’ve never seen that for other pollutants before.”
The Great Lakes collectively hold 20% of the world’s fresh water and 95% of North America’s fresh surface water supply—with 10% of the U.S. population and 35% of Canadians calling the basin their home, the authors noted.

Aid Starts Flowing Into Gaza Strip Across Temporary Floating Pier U.S. Just Finished Building
Trucks carrying badly needed aid for the Gaza Strip rolled across a newly built temporary U.S. floating pier into the besieged enclave for the first time Friday (May 17) as Israeli restrictions on border crossings and heavy fighting hinder food and other supplies reaching people there.
The shipment is the first in an operation that American military officials anticipate could scale up to 150 truckloads a day entering the Gaza Strip as Israel presses in on the southern city of Rafah and its 7-month offensive against Hamas rages on.
But the U.S. and aid groups also warn that the pier project isn't considered a substitute for land deliveries that could bring in all the food, water and fuel needed in Gaza. Before the war, more than 500 truckloads entered Gaza on an average day.
The operation's success also remains tenuous due to the risk of militant attack, logistical hurdles and a growing shortage of fuel for the trucks due to the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.
