It is absolutely amazing that we might have two consecutive presidents impeached by the opposing party for not sending weapons to foreign countries.

Ukrainian Shelling Kills 11 Civilians in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast

Eight were killed in a strike on an apartment building

At least 11 civilians were killed by Ukrainian shelling in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast, including eight who were killed in a missile strike on an apartment building, according to the region’s governor.

“As a result of massive Ukrainian shelling, 11 civilians have been killed in Belgorod today. Eight bodies were pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building and three people were killed in a shelling attack that occurred [on Sunday] evening — a girl aged 17, a woman, and a man died of injuries instantly,
” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on Telegram.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, Tochka-U missiles, Olkha multiple rocket launchers, and Czech-made RM-70 Vampire systems were used in the attacks. The Ukrainian strikes on the Russian border region came after Russia launched a new offensive into northeastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv oblast from Belgorod.

UN Says About 300,000 Palestinians Have Fled Rafah as Israeli Forces Push Further Into the City

Israel is also escalating in northern Gaza's Jabalia refugee camp

The UN’s Palestinian relief agency has said about 300,000 Palestinians have fled Rafah as Israeli forces continue to push further into the city.

Rafah was sheltering an estimated 1.4 million Palestinians before Israel launched an operation to capture the border crossing last Monday. The Israeli military ordered more Palestinians to evacuate parts of southeast Rafah on Saturday, and it continues to escalate in the city despite warnings from the US against a full-scale invasion.

UNRWA wrote on X that the “forced and inhumane displacement of Palestinians continues” and stressed that there is “nowhere safe to go.” Israel has suggested Palestinians go to the al-Mawasi refugee camp on Gaza’s coast, but aid groups say it doesn’t have the resources for so many people.

Israel’s closure of the Rafah border crossing has cut off vital aid deliveries, adding to the starvation blockade, and for five days, no fuel entered Gaza. Israel has allowed some to enter the nearby Kerem Shalom crossing, although not nearly as much as aid groups say is needed.

NYP — Just How Many of Gaza's Civilians Are Entirely 'Innocent'? - Authored by Epstein's Lawyer Alan Dershowitz

Just imagine if a Palestinian wrote an article referencing 10/7 and titled it, “Just how many of Israel’s civilians are entirely ‘innocent’?

You can only get away with this when referring to Palestinians because our blood is cheap. This is part of the dehumanizing strategy.

Alan Macleod, pointing out Alan Dershowitz was the co-author,
tweeted:
Just how many of Jeffrey Epstein's closest associates are entirely innocent?

🔴 One week from today, on Monday May 20, I will be attending and covering the permission to appeal hearing in the case of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange from inside the courtroom in London.

It is expected that Dame Victoria Sharp and Justice Jeremy Johnson will issue their decision which will determine if Mr. Assange has the opportunity to appeal once more before the High Court, and thus prevent his extradition to the United States, or if he enters the US extradition process.

The previous permission to appeal hearing was held on Feb. 20 and 21 of this year. On March 26, the High Court Judges delayed their decision on appeal and allowed the US government three weeks to issue assurances on the following points:

1. Mr. Assange will be permitted to rely on the First Amendment, which protects his free speech

2. Mr. Assange will not be prejudiced at trial for reason of his nationality (he is an Australian citizen not an American citizen)

3. The death penalty will not be sought nor imposed.

The United States Government issued the assurances. Both parties were given a deadline of April 30 to submit fresh arguments related to these points. The May 20 hearing will review the assurances and new submissions to determine if the US assurances are sufficient or if Mr. Assange may appeal.

I will post updates in real time to this Telegram channel during the hearing on May 20.

"Get Out of Gaza": Blinken Delivers Strongest Public Rebuke of Israel Yet

Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday (May 12) delivered some of the Biden administration’s strongest public criticism yet of Israel’s conduct of the war in Gaza, saying Israeli tactics have meant “a horrible loss of life of innocent civilians” but failed to neutralize Hamas leaders and fighters and could drive a lasting insurgency.

In a pair of TV interviews, Blinken underscored that the United States believes Israeli forces should “get out of Gaza,” but also is waiting to see credible plans from Israel for security and governance in the territory after the war.

Hamas has reemerged in parts of Gaza, Blinken said, and “heavy action” by Israeli forces in the southern city of Rafah risks leaving America’s closest Mideast ally “holding the bag on an enduring insurgency.”

Israel’s conduct of the war, Blinken said, has put the country “on the trajectory, potentially, to inherit an insurgency with many armed Hamas left or, if it leaves, a vacuum filled by chaos, filled by anarchy, and probably refilled by Hamas."

Blinken also echoed, for the first time publicly by a U.S. official, the findings of a new Biden administration report to Congress on Friday (May 10) that said Israel’s use of U.S.-provided weapons in Gaza likely violated international humanitarian law.

“When it comes to the use of weapons, concerns about incidents where given the totality of the damage that’s been done to children, women, men, it was reasonable to assess that, in certain instances, Israel acted in ways that are not consistent with international humanitarian law,” Blinken said. He cited “the horrible loss of life of innocent civilians.”

U.S. and Israel Are “Drifting Apart,” Former Head of Israeli Army Intelligence Says

One month ago, on April 13, Iran targeted Israel in retaliation for the assassination of a top Iranian general, attacking despite a warning from President Biden not to. Now Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears to be the one ignoring Mr. Biden, saying Thursday (May 9) that Israel will stand alone if needed after the president said the U.S. would not provide Israel with weapons for a Rafah offensive.

Tamir Hayman, former head of Israeli army intelligence and current head of the Institute for National Security Studies, said he's concerned about Israel's future with the U.S., despite the extensive military collaboration between the countries.

"We have a challenge on maintaining the common values which are the basics of the special connection, relationship with the United States," Hayman said. "We are drifting apart, and it's a strategic threat that we need to address."

Netanyahu tested that special relationship on Thursday with a public message to President Biden: that the incursion into Rafah would happen with, or without, U.S. weapons.

"If we have to stand alone, we will stand alone," Netanyahu said. "If we need to, we will fight with our fingernails. But we have much more than fingernails."

Iranian Lawmaker Claims Iran Possesses Nuclear Weapons

In a startling declaration, an Iranian lawmaker has asserted that the Islamic Republic of Iran possesses atomic weapons but has refrained from officially acknowledging it.

Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani, a member of Iran's parliament, made the assertion in an interview with the Iran-based outlet Rouydad 24, as reported by Fox News.

"In my opinion, we have achieved nuclear weapons, but we do not announce it," Ardestani was quoted as saying. He further elaborated that while possessing nuclear bombs aligns with Iran's policy, the country's official stance remains within the framework of the JCPOA.

Ukraine Admits Frontlines in Kharkiv Are Collapsing

For the first time since Russia launched its major cross-border offensive into Ukraine's Kharkiv region (it began last Friday), Ukraine's government has acknowledged that Moscow forces have made rapid gains.

Oleg Sinegubov, the head of the military administration of the Kharkov Region, has said Russia is pushing past the frontline. "Essentially, the frontline is expanding as the enemy is advancing from multiple positions," he admitted during an interview with Sky News.

Sinegubov blamed the delay in Western arms reaching frontline positions, explaining that "We feel it, and our soldiers on the battlefield feel it. We have been conducting a defensive operation for practically six months, awaiting new supplies. And, of course, the enemy outweighs us in armaments—not in quality but in quantity."

This assessment of Ukrainian lines collapsing in Kharkiv region is consistent with the latest Kremlin statements.
