Israeli media reports that an Israeli businessman was murdered in Alexandria, Egypt.
An Israeli-Canadian businessman by the name of Ziv Kipper was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen in the 'Smouha' area of Alexandria, Egypt on 7 May.
Al-Arabiya news website reported that the killing was being investigated by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior as a murder, while Israel's Ynet said that the Israeli Foreign Ministry was 'looking into it.'
According to Kipper's LinkedIn, he was the CEO of O.K Group LLC, an Egyptian company that exports frozen fruits and vegetables with "the head office in Alexandria, Egypt, and offices in Ukraine and Israel.”
An Egyptian group called the 'Vanguards of Liberation – Martyr Mohammad Salah Group' (Named after the border police officer who carried out a resistance operation that killed 3 Israeli soldiers on the border in June 2023) has claimed responsibility for the killing.
The statement, which has yet to be verified, reads:
"We ... declare our responsibility for targeting the criminal Israeli agent Ziv Kipper, who uses some business activities as a cover to carry out his activities in collecting information and recruiting the weak-souled for the Mossad. This is based on precise intelligence assessment of the target's activity, which we will publish details of gradually as security conditions allow."

❗Earlier today, the Government Information Office in Gaza announced the discovery of a new mass grave at Al-Shifa Hospital:
○ A third mass grave was found inside the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, where 49 martyrs were recovered from it.
○ A total of 7 mass graves have been found inside the hospital's courtyards

New Mass Grave Discovered at Al-Shifa
A third mass grave has been discovered in the ruins of Gaza's al-Shifa Hospital. So far 49 bodies have been recovered from it, according to the government media office in Gaza.
Seven mass graves have been uncovered across the Palestinian enclave during the course of the war. In total, 520 bodies have been found in these graves.
"We hold the American administration, the international community, and the Israeli occupation fully responsible for these mass graves and this blatant aggression against humanity," the media office said in a statement.
"The occupation still has the green light to continue these crimes against humanity with full American support," it said.
On 1 April, the Israeli army withdrew from al-Shifa after laying siege to the hospital complex for two weeks. The military left piles of dead bodies and destroyed buildings in its wake and executed Palestinians who tried to escape the besieged medical complex.
The chairman of the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, Ramy Abdu, said that the grave contains the bodies of “dozens of Palestinians, including women, children, and patients, executed by Israel.”
The Cradle: "Gaza Rescue Teams Discover Third Mass Grave in Ruins of Al-Shifa Hospital"
International organizations have launched probes into the mass graves left behind by the Israeli army, as many of the bodies unearthed have shown signs of torture, summary execution, and even of having been buried alive.
Rescue teams have also reported seeing bodies wrapped in plastic bags with Hebrew writing on them, with many showing their hands were tied behind their backs. Doctors, nurses, children, and the elderly have been among those found buried

Israel Rains Down White Phosphorus On Rafah, Death Toll Surges
Several children have been killed in Israeli bombardment of the besieged city
Israel continued to bombard Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah on 8 May, as over one million Palestinians there face an immediate threat after Israeli forces captured the city’s border crossing with Egypt the previous day.
“Overnight and into the early hours of the morning, the Israeli military continued to pound parts of eastern Rafah city,” Al Jazeera reported, adding that health facilities in Rafah are unable to accommodate large numbers of casualties.
Israel also targeted Rafah with white phosphorus munitions, which are illegal to use on civilians and civilian infrastructure and are considered a war crime under international law.

Israel’s West Asian Allies Turn to Iraq for ‘New Silk Road’ Toward Europe
Turkiye, Qatar, and the UAE have joined Iraq in developing a land corridor connecting the Gulf to Europe, which has left a US–Israeli trade scheme in the dust
Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said on 7 May that projects encompassing the Development Road Project – a multi-billion land corridor stretching 1,200 kilometers from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea – are “nearing completion.”
“Projects are nearing completion. We will significantly reduce travel time between Asia and Europe via Turkiye. A ship departing from the Faw Port in Iraq and reaching Europe via the Suez Canal will save 15 days compared to the same cargo reaching Europe via the Development Road,” Uraloglu told Turkish daily Türkiye.
The official also spoke about the “significant costs” of the Development Road Project, which reportedly range “from $8 billion to $15 billion, possibly up to $20 billion.”
“The source of this financing could be the UAE, Qatar, or another country. The important thing is to secure capital under favorable conditions and to use it effectively,” Uraloglu said.
The entire project is expected to be completed within five years once the funding is secured.
Late last month, senior officials from Turkiye, Iraq, Qatar, and the UAE gathered in Iraq to sign a quadrilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to fund the land corridor, dealing a severe blow to the US-sponsored and Israel-centered India Middle East Europe Economic Corridors project (IMEC).
IMEC got complete support from US President Joe Biden during a G20 summit last September. The project aims to connect Asia and Europe via a system of railways and ports passing through India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, and Greece.
A few weeks after Biden’s announcement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu infamously presented a map of a “New Middle East” at the UN General Assembly in anticipation of a looming normalization deal with Saudi Arabia.
However, the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October by the Palestinian resistance in Gaza, the Israeli genocide that followed, and the Yemeni blockade imposed on Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean threw all western plans for IMEC into disarray.
Doubts among international actors about the long-term viability of IMEC, given Israel’s genocidal actions and the resilient Yemeni blockade, prompted investors to consider the Development Road as an alternative, leading to last month’s summit in Baghdad.

Record Wave of Americans Fled Big Cities for Small Ones in 2023
America’s small towns saw more in-migration in 2023 than larger areas for the first time in decades.
The remote work boom that prompted Americans to flee urban areas for mountain hamlets and seaside towns during the pandemic continued at least through last year, according to University of Virginia demographer Hamilton Lombard. An estimated 291,400 people last year migrated from other areas into America’s small towns and rural areas, which Lombard defines as metropolitan areas with 250,000 people or fewer.
That number exceeded net migration into larger areas for the first time since at least the 1970s.
“With a third of workdays being done remotely in 2023, Americans have more geographic flexibility and have been increasingly willing to move far from large population centers if their destination offers a good quality of life,” Lombard wrote.

Netanyahu’s Handling of Gaza Reflects Stance of ‘Large Majority of Israelis’: Blinken
Israeli media says the premier is 'convinced' he can win a snap election if growing political pressure leads to the dissolution of his government
US State Secretary Anthony Blinken said on 4 May that the genocidal actions undertaken by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Gaza are "a reflection of where a large majority of Israelis are in this moment.”
“This is a complicated government. It’s a balancing act when you have a coalition. And if you’re just looking at the politics of it, that’s something that he has to factor in,” Blinken said at an event in Arizona.
"What’s important to understand is that much of what [Netanyahu is] doing is not simply a reflection of his politics or his policies; it’s actually a reflection of where a large majority of Israelis are in this moment,” the top US diplomat said.
Last month, a survey conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute revealed that three-quarters of Jewish Israelis support Netanyahu's much-anticipated ground invasion of Gaza’s southernmost city, Rafah, where about 1.3 million Palestinians are sheltering after being violently displaced from their homes.
Surveys conducted over recent months have shown a similar trend despite growing pressure to see Netanyahu removed from office.
In January, opinion polls showed that Israelis overwhelmingly agreed that “the best way” to obtain the release of captives held inside Gaza was “military pressure” against Hamas, falling in line with the same rhetoric Netanyahu and his war chief have been repeating daily since 7 October.
Polls have also shown a stern objection to delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, even if the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is “replaced.”
As Netanyahu continues to dig his heels in over the “need” to invade Rafah, on Friday, the Times of Israel reported that the premier “is convinced that he will win an election.”
