Macron Reaffirms That Sending NATO Troops To Fight Russia in Ukraine Shouldn’t Be Ruled Out

French President Emmanuel Macron has again reaffirmed that he believes NATO should not rule out the idea of sending troops to Ukraine to fight Russia despite the obvious risk of nuclear war.

When asked in an interview published in The Economist if he stood by his position about possibly sending ground troops to Ukraine, Macron said, “Absolutely. As I said, I’m not ruling anything out, because we are facing someone who is not ruling anything out.”

The French president first floated the idea of sending Western ground troops to Ukraine earlier this year, and despite backlash from Russia and fellow NATO members, he has not backed down on his position. Macron’s comments have highlighted the fact that there are a small number of NATO special operations troops inside Ukraine.

But what Macron is discussing would mean direct fighting between NATO and Russian troops. Moscow has said that a NATO ground troops deployment would make a direct Russia-NATO war inevitable, which could quickly turn nuclear.

Why Hasn’t the US Called for an Investigation Into Mass Graves in Gaza?

Nothing screams ‘covering up war crimes’ like insisting that there should absolutely not be an independent investigation

Did you know that the Palestinians are the very first people in the world to ethnically cleanse and mass murder themselves? I know it sounds weird, but – as American and Israeli politicians keep reminding us – these are “savages” that we are talking about here. Normal rules don’t apply, you’ve got to follow the Palestine Rules.

The Palestine Rules dictate you do the following: ignore every international agency if that agency says anything remotely critical about Israel. Certainly don’t listen to international aid agencies like Oxfam when they argue that the government of Israel is “deliberately blocking and/or undermining the international humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip”. Nope, the fact that babies in Gaza are dying of malnutrition is all their fault. The fact that children in Gaza are starving at the fastest rate the world has ever known has nothing to do with Israel, it’s the fault of those pesky Palestinians.

The fact that there are an unprecedented number of child amputees in Gaza is the Palestinians’ fault. Let’s be very clear here: if every single Palestinian had fled the land they were born in back in 1948, when Israel was founded, if they’d just completely renounced their Palestinian identity, none of the horrors currently unfolding in Gaza and the West Bank would be happening. Can’t argue with that logic, can you?

You know what’s also the Palestinians’ fault? Those mass graves that have recently been discovered at the ruins of hospitals in Gaza. “Among the deceased were allegedly older people, women and wounded, while others were found tied with their hands … tied and stripped of their clothes,” said Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN high commissioner for human rights, last week.

It shouldn’t be remotely controversial to say that when you discover evidence suggesting gross violations of international law have occurred, then there should be an immediate independent investigation. And yet, the Palestine Rules have kicked in once again: Israel has said they didn’t do anything wrong – arguing that it’s all “fake news” and saying the Palestinians dug their own graves. The Biden administration, meanwhile, has said it trusts Israel to look into its own affairs.

Military Chief: Israel Preparing for an Offensive Against Lebanon

Touring the northern Israeli border with Lebanon, Israeli military chief of staff Herzi Halevi met with Northern Command for an assessment of the planned military operation against Lebanon, telling reservists in comments that they are “preparing for an offensive in the north.”

Halevi didn’t elaborate on the specifics or timing of the offensive, but Israeli military brass have made a big deal of planned operations against Lebanon, presenting the military goal as both moving Hezbollah back from the border and allowing refugees to return to northern Israel.

Israel and Hezbollah have been trading fire since October, and huge numbers of civilians have been displaced on both sides of the border. If anything, the situation has been escalating in recent weeks.

The United States has joined in efforts to try to prevent the Israeli ground war in Lebanon, and Israeli officials say a deal would involve a “freeze of the situation” and the removal of Hezbollah several kilometers from the border, albeit short of the UN calls to move them north of the Littani River.

In the past Israeli officials have indicated that they were placing deadlines on negotiated settlements in Lebanon. The US has long warned that an offensive would be a mistake, as it would force Israel to fight on multiple fronts at the same time.

Pro-Israel Agitator Shouts ‘Kill the Jews,’ Gets Everyone Else Arrested

Northeastern University had around 100 peaceful protesters arrested on Saturday at its Boston campus’ pro-Palestine encampment, claiming that there had been reports of protesters using antisemitic slurs; but according to witnesses, the protester who spewed hate speech was a pro-Israel counter protester.

On Saturday morning, Northeastern Vice President for Communications Renata Nyul released a statement, announcing that the protest on Centennial Common would be cleared by campus police and local law enforcement. In the statement, she explained that the reason they were clearing the encampment was because of the presence of hate speech at the site.

“What began as a student demonstration two days ago, was infiltrated by professional organizers with no affiliation to Northeastern. Last night, the use of virulent antisemitic slurs, including ‘Kill the Jews,’ crossed the line,” she said. “We cannot tolerate this kind of hate on our campus."

Across the country, university administrators and politicians alike have publicized reports of antisemitic speech at student-led protests, as part of their justification for arresting students, and disbanding protests urging them to divest from Israel. These accounts often vary from eye-witness accounts of the peaceful protests.

GBH’s Tori Bedford quickly confirmed that she had heard someone say “Kill the Jews,” but it wasn’t the peaceful pro-Palestine protesters. The chant came from a pro-Israel agitator who joined the crowd late Friday night.

Police Fire Rubber Bullets Into Crowd of UCLA Student Protestors, Without Provocation

They are not even being attacked, as someone in the back shouts - the police are just firing rubber bullets at the UCLA student protestors. These bullets can blind you, they can break your bones; they are incredibly painful. Don’t let “rubber” fool you.

Assal Rad:

“Move back for your safety” then shoots rubber bullets into crowd of students.

When same students were attacked by agitators they did nothing to protect them, instead the police came back to shoot at them. This is about protecting US policy, not students.

Biden Lumps Allies Japan, India with Russia as "Xenophobic"

In remarks at an off-camera campaign fundraiser in Washington, D.C., Biden said touted the nation’s economy, while citing immigration as a key contributor to growth.

“The reason — look, think about it. Why is China stalling so badly economically? Why is Japan having trouble? Why is Russia? Why is India? Because they’re xenophobic. They don’t want immigrants,” he said.

“Immigrants are what makes us strong. Not a joke; that’s not hyperbole. Because we have an influx of workers who want to be here and want to contribute,”
he added, according to a pool report.

There’s "Widespread" Belief Among US Officials That Israel Can’t Beat Hamas

There is a “widespread belief” among US officials that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s goal of “eradicating” Hamas in Gaza is unattainable, The New York Times reported on Thursday (May 2).

Throughout the past seven months, there have been multiple signs that the US doesn’t believe Israel could achieve its goals in Gaza, yet the Biden administration has continued to support the slaughter of Palestinians in the Strip.

In March, the US intelligence agencies released their annual “threat assessment,” and it said Israel will face “lingering armed resistance” for “years to come” and that the Israeli military would struggle to destroy Hamas’s underground infrastructure.

The Washington Post also reported in March that the US didn’t think Israel had clear or attainable goals as far back as October. “We never had a clear sense that the Israelis had a definable and achievable military objective,” a source familiar with an October 27 Biden administration meeting on the situation in Gaza told the Post. “From the very beginning, there’s been a sense of us not knowing how the Israelis were going to do what they said they were going to do.”

🚨BREAKING: Israel Gives Hamas a Week to Strike a Deal or Rafah Offensive Will Begin — WSJ

Israel has given Hamas a week to agree to a cease-fire deal or it will begin a military operation in Rafah, Egyptian officials briefed on the matter said Friday, as the militant group stalls for better terms that would ensure its survival.

Egypt worked with Israel on a revised cease-fire proposal that it presented to Hamas last weekend, according to Egyptian officials. Hamas’s political leadership was expected to consult with its military wing in Gaza and respond on the proposal. But Yahya Sinwar, the group’s military leader in Gaza, who is believed to be hiding in tunnels in the enclave and makes the final decisions, hasn’t responded, the officials said.

Times of Israel (1/2):

Tensions rise in Netanyahu’s coalition government as military replacements announced:

○ On 2 May, the Israeli army announced the promotion of 5 generals to replace the recent resignations across the 'General staff', the senior command in charge of the different branches in the military.

○ The announcement has been met with criticism from Israeli ministers, lawmakers, and media, citing disapproval over allowing current government and military officials, responsible for the security failure on 7 October, to select incoming replacements.

○ There has also been condemnation over promoting generals from within the military, prior to reviewing their potential involvement in what led to the failure on 7 October.
Forwarded from The Cradle
Times of Israel (2/2):

○ Concerns have also been expressed over the potential instability caused by making changes to the military leadership during a time of war.

○ The appointment considered the most controversial is General Shlomi Binder, head of the Operations Division, meant to replace the head of ‘Aman’ the Military Intelligence Directorate Aharon Haliva.

○ Extremist far-right ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich publicly denounced the appointments, they attributed to War Minister Yoav Gallant, claiming that he had no jurisdiction to make new appointments given his culpability in the security failure of 7 October. They also called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to fire Gallant.
