Rep. Brad Wenstrup Grills Peter Daszak in Heated Exchange
Daszak confirms that in 2018 he submitted an application for a project named Diffuse. Ralph Baric from the University of NC and Shi Zhengli from the Wuhan Institute of Virology were collaborators.
Daszak admitted a strategy of downplaying the role of non-U.S. collaborators in the proposal to avoid negative perceptions by DARPA reviewers.
Wenstrup highlighted concerns regarding the biosafety protocols that were to be used for the research involving recombinant SARS coronaviruses. Former President Donald Trump has slammed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the Oct. 7 Hamas terror attack in which around 1,200 people were butchered “should have never happened.”
In a wide-ranging interview with Time magazine published Tuesday, the 45th president said he believed the assault on southern Israel has had “a profound impact” on Netanyahu, 74.
“They have the most sophisticated equipment,” said Trump, 77, of Israeli security forces. “They had — everything was there to stop that. And a lot of people knew about it, you know, thousands and thousands of people knew about it, but Israel didn’t know about it, and I think he’s being blamed for that very strongly, being blamed.”
“I will say this,” he added. “Bibi Netanyahu rightfully has been criticized for what took place on October 7.”

Pentagon Chief Engaged in Pressuring EU Countries to Give Up Their Patriot Systems
America's top defense official is engaged in efforts to pressure European countries to give up their own US-made anti-air defenses for Ukraine.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Tuesday (April 30) he's been actively encouraging countries to donate their Patriot missile systems to Ukraine. "There are countries that have Patriots, and so what we’re doing is continuing to engage those countries," Austin testified before a House Armed Services Committee hearing.
"I have talked to the leaders of several countries... myself here in the last two weeks, encouraging them to give up more capability or provide more capability," he said.
Earlier this month a disturbing report by Financial Times identified Greece and Spain as being under the most pressure from Western allies to give up what few Patriot anti-air defense systems that they possess. But Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden also possess them—with Berlin recently giving one battery up to Ukraine.
An EU diplomat was cited in the FT report as explaining, "There are countries that are not in immediate need of their air defense systems, to be very honest." This as "Each country is being asked to decide what it can spare," according to the statement.

ICC Prosecutors Interview Gaza Hospital Staff Over Israeli War Crimes
Gaza’s two largest hospitals, Al-Shifa and Al-Nasser, have witnessed brutal Israeli attacks throughout the war
International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutors have held meetings with the staff of Gaza’s two largest hospitals, Al-Shifa Hospital in the north of the strip and Al-Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Yunis.
Two unnamed sources told Reuters on 29 April that ICC prosecutors have listened to the testimonies of several staff members of the two hospitals – both of which have been stormed by the Israeli army since the start of the war in October.
One source said that the Israeli army’s operations in and around both hospitals could become part of an ICC investigation. The sources refused to provide further details, and the ICC prosecutor’s office declined to comment on the operational aspect of the probe, citing concerns over the safety of witnesses and victims.
The ICC has said it is investigating both sides of the conflict.
In November, Al-Shifa Hospital was invaded by the Israeli army, who evacuated its staff at gunpoint and turned the facility into a detention center. The hospital was attacked again on 18 March, and hundreds were killed in a subsequent two-week Israeli operation inside and around the medical center.
Khan Yunis‘ Al-Nasser hospital was also stormed by Israeli troops in February. Several people were killed, including patients.
Palestinian rescue workers demanded urgent probes and international intervention following this month’s discovery of hundreds of bodies – many unidentifiable – buried in mass graves near the two hospitals.
Some of the bodies found showed signs of torture and execution. Other bodies had missing organs. Among the corpses found at the mass graves were those of children and elderly persons.
The investigations come after reports earlier this month saying the ICC was looking to issue arrest warrants against top Israeli officials – including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

The price of gold has taken off since about February this year, reaching an all-time high of $ 2.448.8 per ounce on 12 April 2024. This is a 34% rise compared to the lowest price in the past 12 months, which was $ 1,823. This recent surge follows several years of relative calm, when the gold price remained largely range-bound between the beginning of 2020 and late 2023, in a band from ca. $1,700 to ca. $1,950.
What are we to make of the sudden surge in the gold price? Is this a warning signal of looming major events? The short answer is yes.

Only two weeks after surviving a stabbing attack, Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel returned to give his sermon, and an impassioned plea to the Australian authorities not to undermine freedom of speech in the country.
In the wake of the terrorist act known as the Wakeley church stabbing which left another person injured, and the subsequent protests, Australian authorities were quick to go after social media companies and put additional pressure on them.
Meta and X were targeted by the government to block what it termed “offensive” content (videos of the attack) both in Australia, and globally. In addition, government officials and some opposition representatives took the opportunity to push for even more restrictive rules around content censorship (“moderation”) in Australia.
However, the Orthodox Christian dignitary took his own opportunity to remind the government that treating free speech as a danger and pushing for censorship means they are ultimately undermining democracy.
X is trying to fight censorship orders—a total of 65 videos were slated for removal by Australia’s eSafety commissioner.

Iran, UAE Boost Ties as Joint Commission Meets for First Time in 10 Years
Tehran and Abu Dhabi have improved ties significantly in recent years, particularly in trade and economy
Abu Dhabi is hosting the first meeting of the Iran–UAE Joint Economic Cooperation Commission in 10 years, Iranian media reported on 30 April.
The sessions will be held over two days, from 30 April to 31 April, and aim to “develop cooperation between the two countries in all fields of economy, trade, investment and transportation,” Tasnim news agency reported on Tuesday.
It is being co-chaired by Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash and UAE Economy Minister Abdulla bin Touq al-Marri.
According to Tasnim, the meeting agenda includes discussions on international transit, particularly the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC).
The session will also include discussions between economists and entrepreneurs from the private sectors of both countries.
“A number of experts in the field of trade and investment will deliver lectures regarding the development of the business environment and rules governing investment opportunities,” Tasnim reported.
Two agreements on expanding economic cooperation are expected to be signed throughout the meeting of the joint commission.
Ties between the UAE and Iran have improved significantly in recent years, particularly in trade and economy. Improvement of ties surged specifically in the aftermath of the Iran–Saudi normalization deal in March 2023.
Iran imported $20.8 billion worth of goods from the UAE in the last fiscal year, which ended in March this year, according to the Iranian Customs body. The UAE was also Iran’s leading export destination during the same period.

Like the Roman empire, over-expansion, abuse of populations, and parasitism that eventually kills the hosts will be the downfall.
The global south is striving for mutually beneficial dynamics, rather than parasitic ones. The trend of the 3rd world being encouraged by the IMF and Western institutions to export raw materials and import finished goods from Western nations plays into this, and it is why when Iran’s Raisi met his Ugandan counterpart, the Iranian President was quoted to say “Imperialism and the West prefer countries to export oil and raw materials, allowing them to convert these resources into value-added products. Therefore, our efforts in Iran are focused on preventing raw material exports”.

Netanyahu Says ICC Arrest Warrant Would Be an "Antisemitic Hate Crime"
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday (April 30) that if the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for him and other Israeli leaders over the genocidal campaign in Gaza, it would be an “antisemitic hate crime.”
Reports first surfaced over the weekend that the ICC might issue arrest warrants for Israeli leadership. “If this does happen, it will be an indelible stain on humanity. It would be an unprecedented antisemitic hate crime that would add fuel to the antisemitic incitement that is already raging in the world,” Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu added that other world leaders should come out against the ICC’s investigation of Israel. “Israel expects the leaders of the free world to come out strongly against this scandalous step, a step that will harm the self-defense not only of the State of Israel, but of all democracies,” he said.
The White House has come out against the ICC investigation of Israel and is working against the effort. “We’ve been really clear about the ICC investigation, that we don’t support it, we don’t believe that they have the jurisdiction,” said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
Russia has called the US out for hypocrisy since the Biden administration backed the ICC when it issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin last year. “Washington fully supported, if not stimulated, the issuance of ICC warrants against the Russian leadership,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. “The American political system does not recognize the legitimacy of this structure in relation to itself and its satellites.”

🚨Whistleblower Josh Dean of Boeing Supplier Spirit AeroSystems Has died
Joshua Dean, a former quality auditor at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems and one of the first whistleblowers to allege Spirit leadership had ignored manufacturing defects on the 737 MAX, died Tuesday morning after a struggle with a sudden, fast-spreading infection.
Known as Josh, Dean lived in Wichita, Kan., where Spirit is based. He was 45, had been in good health and was noted for having a healthy lifestyle.
He died after two weeks in critical condition, his aunt Carol Parsons said.
Spirit spokesperson Joe Buccino said: “Our thoughts are with Josh Dean’s family. This sudden loss is stunning news here and for his loved ones.”
Dean had given a deposition in a Spirit shareholder lawsuit and also filed a complaint with the Federal Aviation Administration alleging “serious and gross misconduct by senior quality management of the 737 production line” at Spirit.
Spirit fired Dean in April 2023, and he had filed a complaint with the Department of Labor alleging his termination was in retaliation for raising concerns related to aviation safety.
