Egypt Holds ‘Secret’ Intel Meeting with Israel on Rafah

Egypt has been briefed on and is involved in Israeli plans to evacuate Rafah's civilians into Khan Yunis

Top Israeli and Egyptian officials held a secret meeting in Cairo on 24 April, aimed at discussing Tel Aviv’s plans for an invasion of Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah.

Three senior Israeli officials told Axios on Wednesday that Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi met with the head of Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel, and Egypt’s army chief Osama Askar.

The report came the same day that an Israeli defense official said that Israel will launch the operation in Rafah as soon as it gets government approval. Israel is “moving ahead” with the operation, a spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, but gave no specific time frame.

Israel is developing a plan to evacuate civilians from the desperately overcrowded city. Egypt has expressed concern over the possibility of an influx of Palestinian refugees entering its territory once Rafah is attacked and has vowed not to allow any mass displacement of Gazans into its Sinai desert.

Washington has repeatedly called on Israel to ensure the safe evacuation of civilians from Rafah, where military operations pose the threat of a severe humanitarian catastrophe.

“Everyone is waiting for Netanyahu's directive to start evacuating the civilian population from Rafah. It's parked at his desk. He needs to resolve the matter with both the Americans and the Egyptians,
” one of the Israeli officials told Axios.

US and Israeli officials held a virtual meeting last week to discuss plans for Rafah. The decision to launch the operation is “conditions-based and not time-based, and connected to the humanitarian situation on the ground,” Tel Aviv emphasized to Washington during the meeting, according to US officials.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on 23 April, citing Egyptian officials, that Israel’s evacuation plans for Rafah are near complete. The plan will take two to three weeks and will be carried out in cooperation with Washington, Cairo, and other Arab states, including the UAE.

Egyptian forces have deployed in the northern Sinai and along the Gaza border, and are at “full readiness” after being briefed by Israel on plans for Rafah, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported on 18 April.

Rumble Defies Global Censorship Trends, Takes Stand Against New Zealand’s Free Speech Crackdown

Rumble rejects New Zealand's censorship demand after whistleblower reveals alleged Covid vaccine-related deaths.

The CEO of Rumble, a free-speech YouTube competitor, says that global censorship levels are on the rise, but that what’s particularly noticeable are censorship demands coming from Australia and New Zealand – who seem to be following in the controversial, to say the least, footsteps of France and Brazil.

On the one hand, this is surprising, given these countries’ formal democratic provenance.

On the other hand, their actions over the last years, including site blocking at ISP level, constant demands for more stringent regulation to facilitate social media content removal, and even the draconian Covid – and post-Covid era measures, tell a different story.

Chris Pavlovski told Mat Kim that the FreeNZMedia channel has now become a deplatforming target in New Zealand, for reporting about leaked data from the National Vaccination Database, that a whistleblower, former Health New Zealand IT employee Barry Young, made available.

And the data Young gave to reporters and activists concerns Covid vaccine-related deaths and claims that these facts are being covered up.

For referring to Young, and referring to the data he provided to the public, a letter has been sent to Rumble to remove FreeNZMedia. It came from the National Health Authority.

However, Pavlovski said that the company has decided to refuse to do that, or to withdraw from the country, and will instead “challenge it and see what happens.”

Pavlovski went on to refer to this particular New Zealand case as “absurd” and “disgusting” – in that it bears resemblance to the Pentagon Papers. At that time, journalist Daniel Ellsberg emerged as a hero of free speech that was protected by the courts in the US.

But that was nearly 50 years ago, and things have clearly changed not only in faraway lands, but in the US itself, and whistleblowers face anything from deplatforming to life in prison.

Speaking about the case of Young, and FreeNZMedia, Pavlovski said that the whistleblower “has a statistics background, went through all the data, found the different batches of vaccines that had an irregular high death rate and published that, and gave out different interviews on doing it.”

The New York Times Calls Out Biden Admin for Avoiding Questions

On Thursday, The New York Times released a statement regarding US President Joe Biden's persistent avoidance of questions from journalists.

"Mr. Biden has granted far fewer press conferences and sit-down interviews with independent journalists than virtually all of his predecessors," the statement reads. "It is true that The Times has sought an on-the-record interview with Mr. Biden, as it has done with all presidents going back more than a century. If the president chooses not to sit down with The Times because he dislikes our independent coverage, that is his right, and we will continue to cover him fully and fairly either way."

The Times also says Biden's habit of avoiding interviews and questions from "major news organizations" undermines a "important norm" and "establishes a dangerous precedent that future presidents can use to avoid scrutiny and accountability".

The statement calls on Biden to sit down for interviews with The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, CNN and other "major independent news organizations".

○ Work on the Gaza pier is expected to be completed in several days.

○ "Whether the pier will ultimately succeed in boosting humanitarian aid is unclear."

○ An anonymous senior Biden administration official, said humanitarian aid coming off the pier will need to pass through Israeli checkpoints on land, despite having already been inspected by Israel in Cyprus prior to being shipped to Gaza.

○ Israel wants to prevent any aid getting to "Hamas fighters."

○ It is claimed that US troops will have boots on the ground in Gaza to operate activities on the pier. The effort will be helped by private contractors working for the US forces and distribution will be carried out by the World Food Organization's staff.

○ The Israeli military, in addition to providing security around the pier, will also "gather intelligence."

○ Israeli forces are afraid of potential ambushes from the Palestinian resistance. It is claimed that earlier this week rockets targeted the pier.

US Air Force Awards $13 Billion Doomsday Plane Contract to Sierra Nevada

The U.S. Air Force said on Friday that it has awarded a $13 billion contract to Sierra Nevada Corp to develop a successor to the E-4B, known as the Doomsday plane due to its ability to survive a nuclear war.

The Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) project is intended to replace the aging 1970s-era aircraft, which is approaching end-of-service life, an Air Force spokesperson said in a statement.

IDF Shelling Hammers Rafah as Egypt Sends Top Intel Official to Avert Ground Offensive

Egypt is attempting a last ditch effort to reach a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel at a moment IDF shelling of Rafah has intensified, in what are seen as 'softening' operations ahead of an imminent ground offensive, despite international calls to cancel the operation.

The Egyptian government on Friday (April 26) dispatched a high level delegation to Israel led by top intelligence official Abbas Kamel. The Associated Press reported he is presenting a "new vision" for prolonged ceasefire.

But key to a breakthrough is agreement on the remaining Israeli hostages being released, and the two sides seem no closer to achieving that. The Wall Street Journal cites that "Egyptian officials familiar with the negotiations say the talks toward a hostage deal have little chance of success, but hope to use the meetings to buy time for the U.S. and regional powers to pressure Israel to pause its plans to attack Rafah."

While things heat up in the south of the Strip, the IDF has reportedly allowed many displaced Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza "with minimum restrictions."

According to more via WSJ: "The main stumbling block in the negotiations now is Hamas’s demand that any deal include a credible path to a permanent cease-fire, rather than a temporary pause in the fighting, according to Egyptian and other officials familiar with the negotiations."

As for Egypt, it is bracing for a likely massive refugee influx across its border and into Sinai should an all-out Rafah assault be unleashed. Both Egypt and Israel have been establishing camps; however, these would likely reach and overflow in capacity within 24 hours of a Rafah ground operation.

US Troops Begin Building Gaza Port Ahead of Israel’s Rafah Invasion

The Israeli prime minister has suggested the US built port could assist in ethnically cleansing Palestinians from Gaza

US troops have begun construction of a maritime port off the coast of Gaza, the Pentagon said on 26 April, as hundreds of thousands of Palestinians face further displacement ahead of Israel’s anticipated invasion of Rafah....

US President Joe Biden announced the building of the port on 7 March, claiming it would allow a large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza as the threat of famine loomed.

However, the plan to build the port was first suggested to Biden by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 22 October, shortly after the war began, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Speaking at a private meeting of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee on 20 March,
Netanyahu suggested the port could also facilitate the removal of Palestinians from Gaza, Kan News reported.

“As far as the State of Israel is concerned, there is no obstacle for the Gazans to leave, maybe even the port they are building could be used for this, but there are no countries in the world that are ready to receive them,”
Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu’s statement raises fears the port could be used to expel Palestinians who have nowhere to flee ahead of Israel’s long-planned invasion of Rafah on the Gaza–Egypt border.

At the time of Biden’s 7 March announcement of the pier, Israeli officials were blocking most aid deliveries to Gaza overland by truck. A week before the announcement, the Israeli army fired into a crowd of hungry and starving people seeking to receive sacks of flour at Al-Rashid Street in Gaza City. Israeli fire and the subsequent stampede it caused killed 118.

Reuters reports that a senior White House official said humanitarian aid reaching the pier by sea “will need to pass through Israeli checkpoints on land. That is despite the aid having already been inspected by Israel in Cyprus prior to being shipped to Gaza.”

Israel claims it wants to prevent any aid from getting to Hamas fighters that would allow them to keep fighting occupying Israeli forces.

Reuters adds that Israeli checkpoints at the pier “raises questions about possible delays even after aid reaches shore. The United Nations has long complained of obstacles to getting aid in and distributing it throughout Gaza.”

The Biggest Banking EleFiat in the Room: The Federal Reserve Requirement — Or The Lack of One

How the Federal Reserve Ratio Change Down to ZERO PERCENT in 2020 Contributed to The Crisis Unfolding Today

The Silicon Valley Bank(SVB) collapse happened, sending shockwaves of worry throughout the banking industry and finance sector as more bank failures followed...Credit Suisse(CS) was sold to UBS, who was forced by the Swiss government to buy the company in March at a “price per share marked a 99% decline from Credit Suisse’s peak in 2007.”

Silvergate and Signature Banks also failed, and rumors persist around Deutsche Bank and First Republic Bank.

But there is little discussion about the root issue —Fractional Reserve Banking.. More specifically: Undefined “Fractional” Reserve Banking.

You might be asking, “Why is that ‘fractional’ in quotes?”

Because….

The reserve ratio was lowered to an unprecedented figure of 0% in 2020..

Russia Will Target U.S. Nuclear Weapons in Poland if They Appear

Russia has warned that Poland will make itself a 'priority target' if it hosts NATO nuclear weapons on its territory.

In a Thursday (April 25) statement Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said "Moves in this direction will not provide greater security (for Poland or other nations that host such weapons)." Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stipulated that "any nuclear weapons deployed to Poland would be legitimate targets in the event of war with the alliance." Russian media translations said Moscow would see this as a "priority target."

All of this was in response to words issued by Polish President Andrzej Duda in a Monday (April 22) interview. He said his country is "ready" to host nuclear weapons should NATO decide to do so as reinforcement of its eastern flank. It remains that the United States chiefly supplies and oversees NATO's nuclear-sharing program, thus any possible future nukes in Poland would be supplied by Washington.

"Russia is increasingly militarizing the Königsberg oblast (Kaliningrad). Recently, it has been relocating its nuclear weapons to Belarus," Duda continued, apparently wanting to match and mirror Russian moves. Indeed, Belarus is now believed to host possibly dozens of Russian tactical nukes.

"If our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons as part of nuclear sharing on our territory as well, in order to strengthen the security of NATO's eastern flank, we are ready for it," the Polish president had added.

Trump Considers Plan to Sanction Countries That Abandon the Dollar

Economic advisers to former US President Donald Trump are looking for options to stop countries from shifting away from the US dollar as it faces a growing challenge from emerging markets, including BRICS nations, Bloomberg reported on Friday (April 26).

The presumptive Republican nominee for the November presidential election and his team are discussing penalties against both allies and adversaries who seek to divert their trade from dollars to other currencies. The options could include export controls, currency manipulation charges, and tariffs, the outlet said, citing people familiar with the matter.

The global trend toward using national currencies in trade instead of the dollar gained significant momentum after Russia was cut off from the Western financial system and had its foreign reserves frozen in 2022, as part of Ukraine-related sanctions.

Third State Dept Official Resigns Over Biden's Gaza Policy

The Arabic language spokesperson of the US State Department has resigned over Washington's Gaza war policy, in the third senior level resignation from the department since the war began.

Hala Rharrit, a Palestinian-American, posted her resignation on the LinkedIn social media site, stating: "I resigned April 2024 after 18 years of distinguished service in opposition to the United States' Gaza policy."

Rharrit, who joined the State Department as a political and human rights officer, was also the department's Dubai regional media hub deputy director.

When asked about the resignation, a State Department spokesperson told Reuters on Thursday (April 25) that the department has channels for its staff to share views when they disagree with government policies.

In late March, Annelle Sheline, a foreign affairs officer in the State Department's human rights bureau, stepped down in protest over the Biden administration’s support for Israel, saying it had made her job promoting human rights "almost impossible."

Earlier, veteran State Department official Josh Paul, a former director overseeing US arms transfers, resigned over Biden’s "destructive, unjust" supply of arms to Israel just days after the war on Gaza began.

In January, a senior Palestinian-American official in the US Education Department, Tariq Habash, resigned from his post, saying he could no longer "stay silent as this administration turns a blind eye to the atrocities committed against innocent Palestinian lives."

...In November, more than 1,000 US Agency for International Development (USAID) officials, part of the State Department, signed an open letter calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Cables criticizing the administration’s policy have also been filed with the State Department’s internal dissent channel.

Yen Sinks to 34-Year Low After Bank of Japan Holds Interest Rates Near Zero

Governor Kazuo Ueda says weakening currency is having ‘no major impact’ on underlying inflation

The yen tumbled to a fresh 34-year low on Friday after the Bank of Japan kept interest rates on hold and offered no indication it was in a hurry to arrest the currency’s slide with higher borrowing costs.

The Japanese currency traded as low as ¥157.78 to the dollar after BoJ governor Kazuo Ueda said the weakness of the yen was so far having “no major impact” on Japanese inflationary pressures, fuelling speculation that the government might directly intervene in markets to support the currency.

Earlier, BoJ policymakers had voted unanimously to keep benchmark interest rates within a range of about zero to 0.1 per cent.

Egypt’s Intel Chief in Tel Aviv To Urge ‘Delay’ of Rafah Op

The new Egyptian proposal also calls for a one-year ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza

The head of Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel, will travel to Tel Aviv on 26 April for talks on a Gaza truce and prisoner exchange, coming as Cairo has put forth a new proposal for a deal.

Kamel will meet with the head of the Mossad, David Barnea, and the head of Israel’s National Security Council, Tzachi Hanegbi, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported. It added that the Egyptian intelligence chief will present Cairo’s proposal during the talks.

The Egyptian proposal reportedly calls for a postponement of Israel’s planned attack on Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah, as well as an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, freedom of movement on the strip’s main roads, and the return of the displaced to their homes.

A one-year ceasefire is also included in the proposal. Prisoner exchanges would be spread out across several stages, according to the plan. Hamas is reportedly demanding 50 Palestinian prisoners for every Israeli soldier released and 30 for every non-combatant Israeli.

According to Hebrew reports, Israel may be willing to back down on an original demand for 40 of its prisoners to be released and will accept 20 prisoners instead. Other Hebrew reports cited an official as saying that Israel will not accept 20 prisoners and that the number being considered is actually 33.

Hebrew media reported on Thursday that Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and the Israeli military’s prisoner envoy to the talks, Nitzan Alon, presented ideas to the war cabinet on how Tel Aviv could potentially make compromises on its position in order to secure a deal with Hamas.

Hamas has consistently demanded no less than an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, a permanent ceasefire and end to the war, return of the displaced, and reconstruction of the strip.

Ukrainian Drone Strikes Target Russian Oil Refineries Again Despite White House Pleas

Just days after the Biden administration signed a new military aid package worth billions of dollars to Ukraine, Kyiv launched a series of suicide drone attacks on Russian oil refineries. Biden's top officials have pleaded with Kyiv to stop attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure because of the fears that turmoil in crude markets would send pump prices in the US higher ahead of the presidential elections in November.

"Our region is again under attack by Ukrainian UAVs," Smolensk Governor Vasily Anokhin wrote in a post on Telegram on Wednesday (April 24). Kamikaze drones damaged oil facilities in western Russia.

Another drone attack hit the Lipetsk region further south, which is home to steel production plants and pharmaceutical sites, Governor Igor Artamonov said.

"The Kyiv criminal regime tried to hit infrastructure in Lipetsk industrial zone," Artamonov said.

The Moscow Times pointed out:

A source in the Ukrainian defense sector confirmed to AFP on Wednesday that drones in the service of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) had carried out the attacks.

The source made no mention of the attack on Lipetsk but claimed two oil depots were destroyed in the Smolensk region.

"Rosneft lost two storage and pumping bases for fuels and lubricants in the towns of Yartsevo and Rozdorovo," the source said, referring to the Russian state-controlled energy giant.

The Financial Times, citing unnamed US officials, recently said long-range drones have hit at least 20 energy facilities deep within Russia so far this year.
