Albanese insinuated that social media platforms are duty-bound to suppress the so-called “misinformation” present on their sites.

That’s just the sort of thing that’s going on on social media. Social media has a responsibility to do the right thing here.”

The Israeli army announced on 24 April that the 679th “Yiftah” Armored Brigade and the 2nd “Carmeli” Infantry Brigade will enter the Gaza Strip in the coming days to take control of the Netzarim military belt and the US-built pier off Gaza's coast.

An Israeli infantry brigade typically consists of 2,000 to 5,000 soldiers.

Israeli media says the deployment of the two brigades will “free up” troops from the 933rd "Nahal" Brigade currently holding the Netzarim corridor, which was built earlier this year over the rubble of homes, schools, and hospitals to split Gaza in two.

The announcement comes as Israeli authorities say all necessary preparations have been completed for the impending assault of Gaza's southernmost city of Rafah, where over one million Palestinians are taking shelter.

A senior defense official told Reuters on Wednesday that the army can launch an operation the moment it gets government approval.

“Hamas was hit hard in the northern sector. It was also hit hard in the center of the Strip. And soon it will be hit hard in Rafah, too,” Israeli Brig. Gen. Itzik Cohen said on Tuesday.

“Rafah will not be the Rafah of today … There won’t be munitions there. And there won’t be hostages there,” he added.

Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) cited Egyptian officials as saying that Israel has a plan to evacuate civilians from Rafah over two to three weeks in cooperation with the US, Cairo, and other Arab states, including the UAE.

The officials added that Tel Aviv plans on “gradual deployments of troops” to Rafah, concentrated on specific areas where Hamas leaders are allegedly holed up.

The entire operation is expected to take at least six weeks. Moreover, government sources told Israeli media on Wednesday that the war cabinet plans to meet in the coming two weeks to authorize the civilian evacuations.

Palestinians ‘Buried Alive’ by Israeli Army in Nasser Hospital Mass Graves

Hundreds of bodies have been discovered in mass graves at Gaza hospitals that were besieged for weeks by Israeli troops

Officials from Gaza's Civil Defense Department announced on 25 April that 392 bodies have been unearthed from three mass graves discovered at the Nasser Medical Complex in the city of Khan Yunis, with some showing signs of having been buried alive.

“We need forensic examination for approximately 20 bodies for people who we think were buried alive in the Nasser Medical Complex,” Palestinian Civil Defence member Mohammed Mughier told reporters on Thursday, adding that some were the bodies of children.

“Why do we have children in mass graves?” he added, stressing that the evidence shows the Israeli army committed “crimes against humanity.”

Ten of the bodies unearthed had their hands bound, while others still had medical tubes attached to them.

“There are indications of carrying out field executions against some of the victims, while the bodies of other victims carried signs of torture and others were buried alive,” officials from Gaza's Civil Defense Department said during a press conference.

“Several victims were buried in plastic bags and placed at a depth of three meters, which accelerated their decomposition,” the officials added.

The mass graves were discovered after the Israeli army withdrew from Khan Yunis on 7 April following a four-month raid of the city that decimated most infrastructure and left thousands dead.

US Secretly Armed Ukraine With Long-Range ATACMS Last Month

A Biden administration official said that Ukraine has already used the missiles in an attack on a Russian base in Crimea

The US confirmed on Wednesday that it had secretly sent Ukraine long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) last month as part of a $300 million arms package.

The long-range ATACMS can be fired from the HIMARS rocket systems and can hit targets up to 190 miles away, a range that marks a significant escalation in US support for Ukraine. Last year, the US secretly shipped an older cluster bomb variant of the ATACMS that has a range of about 100 miles.

A Biden administration official said Ukraine has already used the longer-range ATACMS twice, including in an attack on a Russian base in Crimea. US-supported attacks on Crimea or the Russian mainland always risk a major escalation from Moscow.

US-Led Gaza Pier Project Comes Under Mortar Fire as UN Officials Tour Site

The US military's ambitious project to erect a large pier off Gaza's coast (all within a war zone) to allow maritime shipments of humanitarian aid to Palestinians is off to a rocky start, after new reports that the construction site has come under fire.

UN officials were reportedly present at the location on Thursday when it came under attack by unknown gunmen, forcing the visiting delegation to take cover. Hamas has previously warned that it plans to resist any foreign military entity on Gaza's territory, which would include the US forces constructing the pier. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement blaming Palestinian terrorists for the attack (either Hamas or PIJ/Islamic Jihad), which included the launching of mortars.

"Members of a terror group in the Gaza Strip launched mortars at an under-construction pier for a US-led project to bring aid into the Palestinian enclave yesterday, the military says," as cited in Times of Israel. "The mortar attack occurred as United Nations officials were touring the site with Israeli troops on the coast of central Gaza, the IDF says in response to a query on the incident."

Officials said there were no casualties, but the IDF rushed the visiting UN officials to shelter. The UN subsequently also acknowledged the unprecedented attack on the site.

"The terrorist organizations continue to systematically harm humanitarian efforts while risking the lives of UN workers, while Israel allows the supply of aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip," the IDF added in its statement.

Hamas Holds Dozens of High-Ranking Israeli Officers in Gaza: Report

Israel has tried to hide the identities of many of these prisoners, framing them as civilians

A source within Palestinian resistance movement Hamas told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed on 24 April that the group holds around 30 Israeli army generals and officers from the Shin Bet security service as prisoners in the Gaza Strip.

“The movement alone has about 30 generals and Shin Bet officers, who were captured on October 7, from military units and some highly sensitive military sites,” the source said.

The source added that “these people in particular are in highly secured places, far from the hands of the occupation, and it is impossible to reach them under any circumstances,” and that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government have been hiding information from their people regarding “the identities of some of the prisoners.”

This concealment comes as part of efforts “to avoid provoking anger among the ranks of the combat forces.” He added that the military representative on Israel’s prisoner negotiation team, Nitzan Alon, is frustrated with Netanyahu’s “laxity” toward the issue.

The Israeli government has said that 129 Israeli prisoners remain captive in Gaza.

According to the source, Israel does not really know the exact number of prisoners left in Gaza after the prisoner exchanges in late November. He adds that Tel Aviv has not specified the number of imprisoned military officials, as part of a strategy “to classify some of the soldiers or officers … as civilians, in order to reduce the price of negotiating for them during the talks.”

The source also denied Hebrew media reports that only 20 prisoners are alive and that Hamas only proposed releasing 20, as opposed to 40, during the latest rounds of truce talks in Cairo.

Truce negotiations remain stalemated by Israel’s repeated rejection of Hamas’ main terms, which the resistance group continues to hold fast. These terms include an end to the war and a permanent ceasefire, a withdrawal of all troops from Gaza, a return of the displaced to their homes, and reconstruction of the strip.

“The only way [for Israel] to liberate the occupation prisoners is through serious negotiations followed by a full commitment to a ceasefire and reconstruction,” he said.

NATO Says China Must Cut Trade With Russia To Have Good Relations With West

Jens Stoltenberg accused China of 'fueling' the war in Ukraine

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday went after China for its trade relationship with Russia, saying Beijing must reduce its cut trade with Moscow to have good relations with the West.

Western officials often accuse China of supporting Russia’s military, but there’s no evidence of Beijing shipping weapons. Instead, they point to China’s export of semiconductors and raw materials.

“Russia’s friends in Asia are vital for its war effort. First and foremost, China. China is propping up Russia’s war economy,” Stoltenberg said. “Sharing high-end technology like semiconductors and other dual-use items with Russia. Last year, Russia imported 90 percent of its micro-electronics from China. Used to produce missiles, tanks, and aircraft.”

Stoltenberg also accused China of “fueling” the war even though Beijing has consistently called for peace talks while the US and leading NATO countries have discouraged diplomacy and have dumped tens of billions of dollars worth of weapons into Ukraine.

“China says it wants good relations with the West. At the same time, Beijing continues to fuel the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War Two. They cannot have it both ways,” Stoltenberg said.

US and other Western sanctions on Russia and China have naturally led to the two countries increasing their trade relationship. Responsible Statecraft reported on Wednesday that trade between Russia and China has risen by 26% since 2022. Russia said it has almost completely dropped the dollar in its trade with China.

Biden Claims $95 Billion Foreign Military Aid Bill is Good for "World Peace"

President Biden on Wednesday (April 24) signed a $95 billion foreign military aid bill into law and claimed the legislation, which funds the proxy war in Ukraine and Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, is good for “world peace.”

“It’s a good day for America, it’s a good day for Europe, and it’s a good day for world peace, for real. This is consequential,” Biden said.

The legislation breezed through the Senate on Tuesday (April 23), passing in a vote of 79-19. It was passed on Saturday (April 20) as four separate bills in the House, where it also received strong bipartisan support.

Biden thanked Republican leaders for supporting the legislation. “I want to thank everyone in Congress who made it possible, especially the bipartisan leadership: Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson; Leader Jeffries; Leaders Schumer and McConnell. They don’t always agree, but when it matters most, they stepped up and did the right thing,” he said.

Biden claimed that there were reports of Ukrainian soldiers cheering in the trenches of eastern Ukraine when the aid was approved by the House. “This weekend, there are reports — and this is — I find this amazing. There are reports of cheers breaking out of the trenches in eastern Ukraine,” he said.

After Biden signed the bill into law, the Pentagon announced a new $1 billion weapons package for Ukraine.

TSA Visited Apple and Google To Discuss Collaboration for Digital ID

TSA's push for biometric technology and digital IDs with Big Tech aims to streamline airport security, but raises concerns over passenger privacy and government surveillance.

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is continuing collaboration with Big Tech concerning the use of biometric surveillance technology, but also the development of digital IDs for passengers.

On its site, the TSA revealed that its officials traveled to California recently where they met with representatives of Apple and Google to talk about continuing work on implementing digital ID on people’s phones.

The TSA delegation to Silicon Valley, led by Administrator David Pekoske, referred to Apple and Google as their “innovation partners.” The goal is to continue with yet another example of “public-private” aka, government-Big Tech “partnership.”

This one seems to be happening fully in the open and at least TSA is enthusiastic about talking about it, and spelling it out: “TSA is working with the tech giants so passengers can identify themselves with IDs stored on their phones at airports,” said the agency post.

As for those private companies, Google explained that the “collaboration” in question has to do with Google Wallet, and the ability to store a government ID in the app to allow TSA PreCheck “in select airports.”

That was something Google revealed to the Washington Times back in 2023; to this latest TSA site post, neither Google nor Apple had any comment.

But Connie LaRossa, Google’s Senior Policy Manager, Government Affairs & Public Policy, posted on LinkedIn that the company is “looking forward to being part of the TSA’s vision for the future of travel.”

UN Urges Probe Into Mass Graves at Gaza Hospitals Raided by Israel

UN rights officials expressed 'horror' at the images of these sites

The UN Secretary-General Spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, told reporters on 23 April that there has to be “a clear, transparent and credible investigation” into the mass graves found in Khan Yunis.

Over 200 bodies were found in a number of mass graves found in Gaza’s Nasser Medical Complex on Sunday, some bound and beheaded.

“We found in the Nasser Complex corpses without heads and bodies without skins, and some of them had their organs stolen,” Gaza’s Government Media Office said. “The occupation executed dozens of displaced, wounded, sick, and medical staff.”

The UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) noted yesterday that 283 bodies were found “buried deep in the ground and covered with waste,” and only 42 have been identified to date.

“Among the deceased were allegedly older people, women and wounded, while others were found tied with their hands … tied and stripped of their clothes,” Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said.

Shamdasani also highlighted another mass grave being found under the Shifa hospital. Citing local authorities, she notes to journalists in Geneva: “Reports suggest that there were 30 Palestinian bodies buried in two graves in the courtyard of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City; one in front of the emergency building and the others in front of the dialysis building."

Shamdasani added that “there are reports that the hands of some of these bodies were also tied,” nothing there could be “many more” still, “despite the claim by the [Israeli army] to have killed 200 Palestinians during the Al-Shifa medical complex operation.”
