⛔️ Samourai Wallet Founders Arrested by DOJ for 'Money-Laundering'

In another perversion of justice, the Department of Justice has indicted the founders of Samourai Wallet, the premier Bitcoin wallet with featues that improved the privacy of BTC transactions.

DOJ alleges that Samourai facilitated more than $100M of money laundering transactions. Samourai's domains have been seized, their apps will be taken down from the Play Store, and the founders Rodriguez and Hill have been arrested, one in New York, and the other extradited from Portgual.

They also allege that the founders knowingly facilitated money laundering. They use off-hand Twitter posts of Samourai welcoming Russian oligarchs and private Twitter DMs of Samourai focusing on black/grey economies, as well as marketing materials for investment pitches that mentioned 'Dark/Grey' market participants.

The takedown of Samourai is a troubling note as we observe international pressure to take down privacy tools that interact in any way with the dark net, even if the extent of interaction cannot be proven.

Some users speculate that the founders knew the takedown was coming, a big reason for the push towards decentralized coordination of Whirlpool transactions which would allow Whirpool transactions even if the main coordinator servers went down.

More Claims of 'Hamas Mass Rape' Proven False: Report

A new Haaretz report debunks several fabricated claims that Hamas committed rape on 7 October, including that nails were driven into a woman's groin

A report by Haaretz published on 18 April acknowledges that key allegations claiming Hamas committed mass rape on 7 October are false, including the shocking claim made by the New York Times that nails were driven into a woman’s groin.

On 28 December, the Times published an article claiming it had “viewed photographs of one woman’s corpse that emergency responders discovered in the rubble of a besieged kibbutz with dozens of nails driven into her thighs and groin.”

The authors of the article, Jeffrey Gettleman, Anat Schwartz, and Adam Sella, cited the photograph as evidence that "attacks against women were not isolated events but part of a broader pattern of gender-based violence on Oct. 7."

However, Haaretz stated in its 18 April report that its journalists had seen the photo in question but that it does not appear to show what the Times claimed.

The photo was shown to Haaretz by Chaim Otmazgin, who is both a commander in the ZAKA rescue service and a reservist in the Israeli army.

ZAKA volunteers were allowed by the Israeli army to collect corpses at various sites on 7 October, including in Kibbutz Be'eri and at the Nova festival, where many were killed during the Hamas attack, including many by Israeli forces, per the Hannibal Directive.

The Israeli paper reported that "Otmazgin showed several of the photographs in his possession to Haaretz, including the one said to show nails having been inserted into the groin. The photograph was taken almost a week after the massacre and is definitely of poor quality. The possibility that what is depicted is indeed nails seems reasonable, certainly in combination with his testimony, but it's impossible to determine this unequivocally."...

Another key rape claim by Otmazgin has already been shown to be false. Haaretz reports further that in one of the kibbutzim near Gaza, Otmazgin found "the bodies of a mother and her two daughters, with one of the daughters found in a separate room, her clothes pulled down. He concluded, mistakenly, that the girl had been raped."

Before Otmazgin entered the room, the bodies had already been photographed fully clothed by army explosives experts (sappers) who were combing the home to ensure it was safe to enter. It was only later that the clothes of one of the two daughters had been pulled down.

Haaretz reports, "Although the bodies were clothed when the sappers had photographed them, the clothes of one of the daughters had been pulled down while her body was being dragged to another room. The discovery of this mistake led to a correction in the report of the Association of Rape Crisis Centers and the publication of a clarification on the subject in Haaretz as well."

It in unclear why the body was dragged, rather than carried, and by whom. This raises questions of whether Otmazgin or someone else sought to stage a rape scene by pulling the daughter's clothes down after the sappers had photographed the bodies.

Israeli army officials say all preparations to enter Gaza's southernmost city of Rafah are completed and the plan hinges on government approval

The Israeli army announced on 24 April that the 679th “Yiftah” Armored Brigade and the 2nd “Carmeli” Infantry Brigade will enter the Gaza Strip in the coming days to take control of the Netzarim military belt and the US-built pier off Gaza's coast.

An Israeli infantry brigade typically consists of 2,000 to 5,000 soldiers.

Israeli media says the deployment of the two brigades will “free up” troops from the 933rd "Nahal" Brigade currently holding the Netzarim corridor, which was built earlier this year over the rubble of homes, schools, and hospitals to split Gaza in two.

The announcement comes as Israeli authorities say all necessary preparations have been completed for the impending assault of Gaza's southernmost city of Rafah, where over one million Palestinians are taking shelter.

A senior defense official told Reuters on Wednesday that the army can launch an operation the moment it gets government approval.

“Hamas was hit hard in the northern sector. It was also hit hard in the center of the Strip. And soon it will be hit hard in Rafah, too,” Israeli Brig. Gen. Itzik Cohen said on Tuesday.

“Rafah will not be the Rafah of today … There won’t be munitions there. And there won’t be hostages there,” he added.

Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) cited Egyptian officials as saying that Israel has a plan to evacuate civilians from Rafah over two to three weeks in cooperation with the US, Cairo, and other Arab states, including the UAE.

The officials added that Tel Aviv plans on “gradual deployments of troops” to Rafah, concentrated on specific areas where Hamas leaders are allegedly holed up.

The entire operation is expected to take at least six weeks. Moreover, government sources told Israeli media on Wednesday that the war cabinet plans to meet in the coming two weeks to authorize the civilian evacuations.

Palestinians ‘Buried Alive’ by Israeli Army in Nasser Hospital Mass Graves

Hundreds of bodies have been discovered in mass graves at Gaza hospitals that were besieged for weeks by Israeli troops

Officials from Gaza's Civil Defense Department announced on 25 April that 392 bodies have been unearthed from three mass graves discovered at the Nasser Medical Complex in the city of Khan Yunis, with some showing signs of having been buried alive.

“We need forensic examination for approximately 20 bodies for people who we think were buried alive in the Nasser Medical Complex,” Palestinian Civil Defence member Mohammed Mughier told reporters on Thursday, adding that some were the bodies of children.

“Why do we have children in mass graves?” he added, stressing that the evidence shows the Israeli army committed “crimes against humanity.”

Ten of the bodies unearthed had their hands bound, while others still had medical tubes attached to them.

“There are indications of carrying out field executions against some of the victims, while the bodies of other victims carried signs of torture and others were buried alive,” officials from Gaza's Civil Defense Department said during a press conference.

“Several victims were buried in plastic bags and placed at a depth of three meters, which accelerated their decomposition,” the officials added.

The mass graves were discovered after the Israeli army withdrew from Khan Yunis on 7 April following a four-month raid of the city that decimated most infrastructure and left thousands dead.

US Secretly Armed Ukraine With Long-Range ATACMS Last Month

A Biden administration official said that Ukraine has already used the missiles in an attack on a Russian base in Crimea

The US confirmed on Wednesday that it had secretly sent Ukraine long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) last month as part of a $300 million arms package.

The long-range ATACMS can be fired from the HIMARS rocket systems and can hit targets up to 190 miles away, a range that marks a significant escalation in US support for Ukraine. Last year, the US secretly shipped an older cluster bomb variant of the ATACMS that has a range of about 100 miles.

A Biden administration official said Ukraine has already used the longer-range ATACMS twice, including in an attack on a Russian base in Crimea. US-supported attacks on Crimea or the Russian mainland always risk a major escalation from Moscow.

US-Led Gaza Pier Project Comes Under Mortar Fire as UN Officials Tour Site

The US military's ambitious project to erect a large pier off Gaza's coast (all within a war zone) to allow maritime shipments of humanitarian aid to Palestinians is off to a rocky start, after new reports that the construction site has come under fire.

UN officials were reportedly present at the location on Thursday when it came under attack by unknown gunmen, forcing the visiting delegation to take cover. Hamas has previously warned that it plans to resist any foreign military entity on Gaza's territory, which would include the US forces constructing the pier. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement blaming Palestinian terrorists for the attack (either Hamas or PIJ/Islamic Jihad), which included the launching of mortars.

"Members of a terror group in the Gaza Strip launched mortars at an under-construction pier for a US-led project to bring aid into the Palestinian enclave yesterday, the military says," as cited in Times of Israel. "The mortar attack occurred as United Nations officials were touring the site with Israeli troops on the coast of central Gaza, the IDF says in response to a query on the incident."

Officials said there were no casualties, but the IDF rushed the visiting UN officials to shelter. The UN subsequently also acknowledged the unprecedented attack on the site.

"The terrorist organizations continue to systematically harm humanitarian efforts while risking the lives of UN workers, while Israel allows the supply of aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip," the IDF added in its statement.
