IMF Says Bitcoin Has Become Necessary Financial Tool for Preserving Wealth Amid Financial Instability

According to the IMF, residents of countries with restrictive financial regulations are turning to Bitcoin to move capital across borders more freely.

Bitcoin (BTC) is increasingly serving as a critical channel for cross-border financial flows amid global financial instability, according to a new report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The report — called “A Primer on Bitcoin Cross-Border Flows” — sheds light on how the decentralized nature of Bitcoin is being leveraged to bypass traditional banking systems, especially in regions experiencing economic distress or strict capital controls.

Necessary financial tool
According to the IMF, residents of countries with restrictive financial regulations are turning to Bitcoin to move capital across borders more freely.

The authors wrote:

“Off-chain cross-border flows seem correlated with incentives to avoid capital flow restrictions.”

The report highlighted significant transaction volumes originating from countries like Argentina and Venezuela, where citizens face hyperinflation and stringent financial controls.

In these regions, Bitcoin has become a necessary financial tool for preserving wealth and accessing global markets rather than just a speculative investment.

However, the IMF report also cautioned against the potential risks associated with the widespread use of Bitcoin for cross-border flows.

The lack of oversight and the anonymity provided by cryptocurrencies can complicate the efforts of regulators to monitor and control financial transactions to prevent illicit activities such as money laundering.

On-chain volume
The study reviewed both on-chain and off-chain transaction data to explore the trends behind Bitcoin’s use across borders. It found that Bitcoin transactions are not only substantial in volume but also exhibit unique characteristics compared to traditional capital flows...

The IMF called for international cooperation and regulatory frameworks that encompass the unique aspects of digital assets. Such measures would help mitigate the risks while harnessing the benefits of digital currencies, especially as tools for economic freedom in countries with restrictive financial environments...

With the president's signage of the bill into law, tick tock's parent company by dance now has within 9 months to a year to divest completely or face the app being banned in the United States.

Privacy Under Siege: Europol and the UK Crime Agency Target Encryption, Call For Backdoors

Europol and the UK's NCA target Meta's encryption efforts, citing child safety, while privacy advocates warn that undermining end-to-end encryption enables mass surveillance.

What is best known as the “politicization of institutions” in authoritarian societies is these days making a creeping but steady progress in some countries/blocs one would not have suspected of such things until relatively recently.

Here we have Europol (EU’s law enforcement agency) and the supposedly “divested” from the EU shenanigans via Brexit UK – but is it really? – and that country’s National Crime Agency (NCA), teaming up to attack Meta for dozens and dozens of reasonable reasons, but for the one thing the company is apparently trying to do right.

And that’s implementing in its products end-to-end encryption (E2EE), the very, necessary, irreplaceable software backbone of a safe and secure internet for everybody. Yet that is what many governments, and here we see the EU via Europol, and the UK, keep attempting to damage...

But mass surveillance is a hard sell, so the established pitch is to link the global and overall internet problem, to that of the safety of children online, and justify it that way.

Gaza Mass Graves Spur Yemen To Expand Naval Attacks

Sanaa expressed outrage after hundreds of bodies were found under Gaza’s Nasser Hospital, calling it an ‘unparalleled level of Zionist hate’

Yemen’s armed forces threatened on 22 April to expand military operations against Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea, Arab Sea, and Indian Ocean following the discovery of mass graves in Gaza’s Nasser Medical Complex.

“For the seventh month in a row, the genocidal crimes of the Israeli enemy continue, the latest of which is the brutal massacre in the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis,” the armed forces said via a statement on Yemen’s Al-Masirah channel.

The statement continued, “the genocidal crimes that the Palestinian people are facing in Gaza and the occupied West Bank reflect an unparalleled level of Zionist hatred and crime.”

The statement by Yemen called to “escalate their operations in the Red Sea,” adding that Sanaa continues its full support for the people of Gaza.

On Sunday, over 200 bodies were found across two mass graves located in Khan Yunis’ Nasser Medical Complex. Gaza’s Government Media Office announced that about 700 victims are expected to be found.

“We found in the Nasser Complex corpses without heads and bodies without skins, and some of them had their organs stolen,” the media office said. “The occupation executed dozens of displaced, wounded, sick, and medical staff.”

Yemen’s statement said that the west was to blame for the continued crimes on Gaza, saying, “If it hadn’t been for US and western support, the shameful Arab silence, and powerlessness of the UN, the Zionist crimes against the Palestinian people would not have occurred.”

The Yemeni armed forces have overwhelmed the forces they deem to be enemies of Palestine. Earlier in April, Yemen’s attacks led to the French Aquitaine-class FREMM frigate Alsace’s retreat from the Red Sea following the ship’s complete exhaustion of munitions.

...Earlier in April, the Yemeni armed forces drones announced its targeting of two Israeli ships, MSC Darwin and MSC Gina, and two US ships, Maersk Yorktown and a warship, in the Gulf of Aden.

Although battles may continue, the regional war that started on October 7 ended on April 13 with Iran's strikes on Israel. Just as the Syrian war ended in September 2015 when Russia's airforce entered Syrian skies.

⛔️ Samourai Wallet Founders Arrested by DOJ for 'Money-Laundering'

In another perversion of justice, the Department of Justice has indicted the founders of Samourai Wallet, the premier Bitcoin wallet with featues that improved the privacy of BTC transactions.

DOJ alleges that Samourai facilitated more than $100M of money laundering transactions. Samourai's domains have been seized, their apps will be taken down from the Play Store, and the founders Rodriguez and Hill have been arrested, one in New York, and the other extradited from Portgual.

They also allege that the founders knowingly facilitated money laundering. They use off-hand Twitter posts of Samourai welcoming Russian oligarchs and private Twitter DMs of Samourai focusing on black/grey economies, as well as marketing materials for investment pitches that mentioned 'Dark/Grey' market participants.

The takedown of Samourai is a troubling note as we observe international pressure to take down privacy tools that interact in any way with the dark net, even if the extent of interaction cannot be proven.

Some users speculate that the founders knew the takedown was coming, a big reason for the push towards decentralized coordination of Whirlpool transactions which would allow Whirpool transactions even if the main coordinator servers went down.

More Claims of 'Hamas Mass Rape' Proven False: Report

A new Haaretz report debunks several fabricated claims that Hamas committed rape on 7 October, including that nails were driven into a woman's groin

A report by Haaretz published on 18 April acknowledges that key allegations claiming Hamas committed mass rape on 7 October are false, including the shocking claim made by the New York Times that nails were driven into a woman’s groin.

On 28 December, the Times published an article claiming it had “viewed photographs of one woman’s corpse that emergency responders discovered in the rubble of a besieged kibbutz with dozens of nails driven into her thighs and groin.”

The authors of the article, Jeffrey Gettleman, Anat Schwartz, and Adam Sella, cited the photograph as evidence that "attacks against women were not isolated events but part of a broader pattern of gender-based violence on Oct. 7."

However, Haaretz stated in its 18 April report that its journalists had seen the photo in question but that it does not appear to show what the Times claimed.

The photo was shown to Haaretz by Chaim Otmazgin, who is both a commander in the ZAKA rescue service and a reservist in the Israeli army.

ZAKA volunteers were allowed by the Israeli army to collect corpses at various sites on 7 October, including in Kibbutz Be'eri and at the Nova festival, where many were killed during the Hamas attack, including many by Israeli forces, per the Hannibal Directive.

The Israeli paper reported that "Otmazgin showed several of the photographs in his possession to Haaretz, including the one said to show nails having been inserted into the groin. The photograph was taken almost a week after the massacre and is definitely of poor quality. The possibility that what is depicted is indeed nails seems reasonable, certainly in combination with his testimony, but it's impossible to determine this unequivocally."...

Another key rape claim by Otmazgin has already been shown to be false. Haaretz reports further that in one of the kibbutzim near Gaza, Otmazgin found "the bodies of a mother and her two daughters, with one of the daughters found in a separate room, her clothes pulled down. He concluded, mistakenly, that the girl had been raped."

Before Otmazgin entered the room, the bodies had already been photographed fully clothed by army explosives experts (sappers) who were combing the home to ensure it was safe to enter. It was only later that the clothes of one of the two daughters had been pulled down.

Haaretz reports, "Although the bodies were clothed when the sappers had photographed them, the clothes of one of the daughters had been pulled down while her body was being dragged to another room. The discovery of this mistake led to a correction in the report of the Association of Rape Crisis Centers and the publication of a clarification on the subject in Haaretz as well."

It in unclear why the body was dragged, rather than carried, and by whom. This raises questions of whether Otmazgin or someone else sought to stage a rape scene by pulling the daughter's clothes down after the sappers had photographed the bodies.
