Mainstream Media Calls on Biden and Trump to Debate Before 2024 Election
On Sunday, 10 mainstream media outlets called on President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump to participate in debates before the 2024 U.S. (s)election.
"If there is one thing Americans can agree on during this polarized time, it is that the stakes of this election are exceptionally high. Amidst that backdrop, there is simply no substitute for the candidates debating with each other, and before the American people, their visions for the future of our nation," the letter states.
The outlets include ABC News, The Associated Press, CBS News, CNN, C-SPAN, Fox News, NBC, NewsNation, Univision, NPR, PBS, and USA Today.

IRGC Says ‘Nuclear Doctrine’ Can Change in Response To Israeli Attack
The Islamic Republic has for decades maintained a fatwa on the development of weapons of mass destruction
The commander of Iran's Nuclear Centers Protection and Security Corps, Brigadier General Ahmed Haq Talab, announced on 18 April that if Israel decides to strike one of the country's nuclear facilities, the Islamic Republic could “revise” its nuclear doctrine.
“If the Zionist regime wants to take action against our nuclear centers and facilities, it will face our reaction ... [on its] nuclear centers,” the senior commander said. “It is possible and conceivable to revise the nuclear doctrine and policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and to deviate from the considerations announced in the past,” Talab emphasized.
He also reminded Tel Aviv that its nuclear facilities “are identified and the necessary information about all the targets are at our disposal,” adding that the IRGC has “their hand on the trigger to fire powerful missiles to destroy specified targets.”
“If the Zionist regime commits an act of aggression against Iran … the blow it receives from the armed forces will be remembered in history like Operation True Promise,” Talab added.
Officials in Tel Aviv have pledged to respond to an Iranian retaliatory strike this past weekend, which saw the Islamic Republic launch hundreds of drones and missiles toward Israel.
Nevertheless, reports in western media suggest Israel will “limit” its response under pressure from its allies/

US Backs Israeli Plans for Rafah in Exchange for ‘Soft Response’ to Iran: Report
Israel’s allies have expressed fear than an Israeli response could trigger unprecedented regional escalation
Washington has greenlighted Israeli plans for an invasion of Gaza’s southern city of Rafah in exchange for Israel limiting its response to the Iranian operation last weekend, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported.
“The American administration showed acceptance of the occupation’s plan regarding the operation in Rafah in exchange for not carrying out a large-scale attack against Iran,” Egyptian sources told the outlet.
According to the sources, Egyptian forces and agencies are “at full readiness” in northern Sinai and along the Egyptian border with Gaza as part of a plan “to deal with the scenario of preparation for the repeated Israeli announcements of an [upcoming] invasion of the city of Rafah.”
The increased readiness came after “contacts from the Israeli side” relating to preparations for the operation in the southern city, which Israel claims is Hamas’ final stronghold.
“The Israeli plan relies on the method of displacement, by dividing Rafah into numbered squares, so that one square after another is targeted, prompting those in it to move away from it, specifically towards Khan Yunis and the Al-Mawasi area,” the sources added.
The sources said camps run by the Egyptian Red Crescent are already present in the city of Khan Yunis and are being expanded, coinciding with an increase of humanitarian aid to these areas in coordination with Israel.
The first two Egyptian Red Crescent camps in Khan Yunis were set up in January, and are capable of accommodating thousands of Palestinians, according to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed. Egyptian authorities have been working to establish a third camp.

Facebook Designates Grayzone Journalist Kit Klarenberg a ‘Dangerous Individual’
The notoriously intelligence-friendly social media network appears to have imposed a ban on posting a recent report by Kit Klarenberg, and is automatically restricting users who re-publish his work.
Multiple Facebook users have reported being banned, or having their posts censored, after sharing an investigation by The Grayzone’s Kit Klarenberg into CIA and MI6 involvement in the creation of ISIS. Readers who post links to the piece on the social network find themselves frozen out of their accounts, on the apparent grounds that Facebook has classified Klarenberg as a “dangerous individual.”
“I just shared this article from @Kit Klarenberg on Facebook and the post was immediately deleted,” wrote Ricky Hale, the founder of popular independent left-wing outlet Council Estate Media.
In a Substack article published April 5, Hale wrote that “the page was hit with restrictions and I was told I had shared a post from a dangerous individual or organisation.”
Hale was only able to regain control of his Facebook page, which boasts over 44,000 fans, by removing administrative privileges from the user who shared it — which happens to be himself.
Other restrictions imposed due to sharing Klarenberg’s work have not been lifted, and may well never be. Hale says he has been blocked from changing the page’s name, inviting people to join the page, or creating new Facebook groups. “Given Facebook had already reduced my page’s visibility for another absurd violation, I’m assuming my posts are going to be invisible,” Hale lamented. “This means a Facebook page with 44,000 users has been rendered useless because of state censorship that’s been outsourced to big tech. This is not how a free society operates.”

Israel Approves Billions To Resettle Gaza Border Region
The Israeli government has been using the shadow of war to fund its settlement-building projects and land grabs
The Israeli cabinet approved a five-year 19 billion shekel ($5 billion) plan to rebuild and strengthen settlements near Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on 17 April.
“The Government will approve the Tekuma Plan to rebuild the communities in the Western Negev,” Netanyahu said during a government meeting. “We will invest the very large sum of NIS 19 billion [$5 billion] to move the communities of the Western Negev forward for generations. We will invest in housing, infrastructure, education, employment, health, and more.”
He added that Israel will “uproot” Hamas from the area and “deepen our roots. We will build the Land of Israel and safeguard our state.”
Settlers who were living in the Gaza envelope have previously stated their refusal to return due to fears of the Palestinian resistance.
Israeli settlers have previously noted that their refusal to return is “not only due to the threat of rockets … no one knows if the Palestinians from Gaza can reach us. No one knows where their tunnels extend to.”
Tel Aviv has also been using the dust kicked up from the six-month-long war on Gaza as a shield for an ulterior motive to resettle back inside the Gaza Strip.
One of the Israeli soldiers sent to Gaza early into the war recorded a video showing scenes from the destroyed enclave, to which he exclaimed, “We will complete the mission we have been assigned. Conquer, expel, and settle. You hear that, Bibi?”

Dozens Killed in Israeli Assault on Central Gaza Refugee Camp
Gaza's Government Media Office says 100 people went missing during the violent incursion, while civil defense reports that many are still under the rubble
Seventy-five people were killed and 348 people were wounded in an Israeli operation on central Gaza’s Al-Nuseirat camp, Gaza’s Government Media Office said on 17 April.
It added that 100 people went missing during the Israeli operation and that 13,000 housing units were destroyed.
The Israeli army withdrew from central Gaza’s Al-Nuseirat camp on 17 April following a week-long incursion, leaving behind a massive trail of destruction.
"This comes within the framework of the genocide being waged by the Israeli army against Palestinian civilians, which the U.S. administration supports and participates in,” the media office added in its statement.
“Several victims were retrieved by civil defense teams, while many others are still under the rubble,” Gaza’s civil defense said on Thursday.
Throughout the operation, heavy Israeli airstrikes targeted the camp and its vicinity.
The withdrawal from the Nuseirat area came the same day that Israeli forces withdrew from the city of Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip following a 36-hour operation.
Israeli troops pushed into Beit Hanoun on 16 April, coinciding with a surge in airstrikes on the southern city of Rafah and the killing and wounding of several civilians. The army besieged schools where displaced Palestinians were sheltering, detaining several throughout the incursion.
Israeli bombardment also persisted across Gaza’s southern city of Rafah, killing and wounding several.
Israel claims Rafah is Hamas’ final stronghold – despite the group being entrenched across several areas of Gaza along with other resistance factions. Israel has been planning an operation in the city, posing the threat of a severe humanitarian catastrophe. The US has attempted to mold Israel’s planned invasion of Rafah into more limited and surgical operations and has urged Tel Aviv to develop a plan to evacuate more than one million Palestinians there.
Al-Araby al-Jadeed reported on 18 April, citing Egyptian sources and a western diplomat, that Washington has greenlighted Israeli plans for an invasion of Gaza’s southern city of Rafah in exchange for Israel limiting its response to the Iranian operation last weekend.

Blinken Shelves Special Request to Probe Israeli War Crimes: Report
Many of the crimes listed by the special State Department panel include Israeli torture, rape, and executions of Palestinians
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has failed to act on a State Department proposal to bar certain Israeli police and army units from receiving US funds over human rights abuses of Palestinians.
Blinken has disregarded this despite the growing concern over Israeli army conduct in Gaza, according to current and former State Department officials.
A special panel at the State Department made the proposal months ago. Recommendations for action against Israeli units were sent to Blinken in December but have “been sitting in his briefcase since then,” one official told ProPublica on 17 April.
The Israeli rights abuses in question mainly took place in the occupied West Bank before Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October. They include the execution of Palestinians by Israeli border police, as well as torture and rape during interrogation.
“This process is one that demands a careful and full review … and the department undergoes a fact-specific investigation applying the same standards and procedures regardless of the country in question,” ProPublica cites a State Department spokesman as saying.
“Blinken’s inaction has undermined Biden’s public criticism [of Israel], sending a message to the Israelis that the administration was not willing to take serious steps,” according to several officials at the department who have worked on Israeli relations.
On Tuesday, the Washington Post published an in-depth investigation detailing Israel’s role in the killing of a six-year-old and her family who were trapped in a car in northern Gaza. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Washington will ask Tel Aviv “for further information” on the matter.
The US has said it would look into several incidents, including late February’s Flour Massacre against dozens of starving and desperate aid seekers. Yet no US probe has been launched into the matter since an internal Israeli army investigation absolved Israel of blame, and Washington refused to condemn the killings.
The Guardian reported in January, citing interviews and State Department documents, that “special mechanisms have been used over the last few years to shield Israel from US human rights laws.”

Peter Thiel has worn many hats over the years: Silicon Valley founder, Trump megadonor, cryptocurrency booster, democracy skeptic.
But there is yet another facet to Thiel, one that has remained secret until now: FBI informant.
In the summer of 2021, Insider has learned, Thiel began providing information as a "confidential human source," or CHS, to Johnathan Buma, a Los Angeles-based FBI agent who specializes in investigating political corruption and foreign-influence campaigns.
Charles Johnson, a longtime associate of Thiel's and a notorious figure in the far-right movement that Thiel has subsidized for a decade, told Insider in a statement that he helped recruit the billionaire as an informant by introducing him to Buma.
A source with knowledge of Thiel's relationship to the FBI, whose identity is known to Insider but who insisted on anonymity, corroborated Johnson's account, telling Insider that Johnson brokered a relationship between Thiel and Buma. Insider was able to confirm through an additional source that the FBI added Thiel to its formal roster of registered informants.

The Silicon Valley billionaire reportedly sees blood transfusions as the pathway to radical life extension.
Tump delegate and Gawker bankrupter Peter Thiel is no stranger to the idea of increasing his lifespan through science. “I stand against confiscatory taxes, totalitarian collectives, and the ideology of the inevitability of the death of every individual,” he wrote in libertarian journal Cato Unbound seven years ago. On Bloomberg TV in 2014, Thiel explained that he was taking human-growth hormone pills as part of his plan to live 120 years. “It helps maintain muscle mass, so you’re much less likely to get bone injuries, arthritis,” he said.
Given Thiel’s obsession with warding off death, it comes as no surprise that the Silicon Valley billionaire is interested in at least one radical way of doing it: injecting himself with a young person’s blood.
On Monday, Jeff Bercovici of Inc. magazine published part of a year-old interview with Thiel, in which the venture-capitalist explains that he’s interested in parabiosis, which includes the practice of getting transfusions of blood from a younger person, as a means of improving health and potentially reversing aging:
“I'm looking into parabiosis stuff, which I think is really interesting. This is where they did the young blood into older mice and they found that had a massive rejuvenating effect,” he said. “And so that’s . . . that is one that . . . again, it’s one of these very odd things where people had done these studies in the 1950s and then it got dropped altogether. I think there are a lot of these things that have been strangely under-explored.”
It’s unclear whether the 48-year-old entrepreneur is currently receiving parabiosis treatments. Bercovici reports that a Thiel Capital employee—actually, the “Personal Health Director to Peter Thiel,” according to his LinkedIn page—previously expressed interest in the technique to Jesse Karmazin, the founder of Ambrosia LLC, a company that has been looking for volunteers over the age of 35 to receive blood transfusions from individuals under the age of 25. Bercovici notes that Silicon Valley is abound with rumors of wealthy tech elites experimenting with parabiosis, and Gawker has reported that it received a tip in June claiming that Thiel “spends $40,000 per quarter to get an infusion of blood from an 18-year-old based on research conducted at Stanford on extending the lives of mice.”
