Netanyahu: Whole World Is Ganging up on Us. It’s a Combination of Ignorance and Antisemitism

3/31 — In the final minutes of his press conference, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returns to an earlier partial question put to him about why it is that the world is apparently siding against Israel.

“What has happened in the past few months was that the terrible massacre
” of Oct 7 “was quickly forgotten,” he says, “and the whole world is ganging up on us. And there are people here and abroad who say maybe there’s something to this; maybe we’re really not ok.”

He says the criticism, including international and US criticism, focuses on the claim that Israel and the IDF are “not doing enough to minimize civilian casualties. That’s simply not so,” he insists. “And it’s not just me saying this.”

He cites world-renowned experts in urban war like David Petraeus and John Spencer who, he says, argue that “there is no army in the world that has done and does what the IDF has done to minimize the number of casualties and achieve achievements no other army has managed.”

Speaking more passionately than hitherto, he asks how it can be that “good people” in the world are teaming up against Israel, that there are major demonstrations in world capitals, and yet “not a word was said about the millions massacred or uprooted from their homes in the Syrian civil war, or in Yemen’s internal war and elsewhere? And on the much smaller number — every dead civilian, every such loss is, of course, a tragedy, but it can’t be compared; we are talking about very small numbers, compared to the massacre of millions… how can it be that the worst things are believed: genocide, those claims against the state of Israel?”

He says, “I once asked that question of my father, a world-renowned historian who dealt at length with antisemitism. I asked him, How can it have been that they believed, in ancient times, 500 years before Christianity, the worst against the Jews; in the Middle Ages, that we used the blood of Christian babies to bake matzah; and in the modern era, what the Nazi disseminated? How can it be that millions around the world believed this? It must be ignorance, I said.”

His father, says Netanyahu, answered: “Not only ignorance.”

“Ignorance can’t explain why a great French philosopher like Voltaire believed the antisemitic allegations,”
Netanyahu recalls his father saying, “or a great Russian writer like Dostoevsky believed the antisemitic lies.”

“There is a virus that has accompanied us for millennia now,” says the prime minister, “a virus of antisemitism” that changes shape but abides. “The question is what do we do about it.”

‘Not a Normal War’: Doctors Say Children Have Been Targeted by Israeli Snipers in Gaza

IDF says it ‘completely rejects’ charge that its soldiers deliberately fired on any of the thousands of civilians killed in Israeli offensive

Dr Fozia Alvi was making her rounds of the intensive care unit on her final day at the battered European public hospital in southern Gaza when she stopped next to two young arrivals with facial injuries and breathing tubes in their windpipes.

“I asked the nurse, what’s the history? She said that they were brought in a couple of hours ago. They had sniper shots to the brain. They were seven or eight years old,
” she said.

The Canadian doctor’s heart sank. These were not the first children treated by Alvi who she was told were targeted by Israeli soldiers, and she knew the damage a single high-calibre bullet could do to a fragile young body.

“They were not able to talk, paraplegic. They were literally lying down as vegetables on those beds. They were not the only ones. I saw even small children with direct sniper shot wounds to the head as well as in the chest. They were not combatants, they were small children,”
said Alvi.

Children account for more than one in three of the more than 32,000 people killed in Israel’s months-long assault on Gaza, according to the Palestinian health ministry. Tens of thousands more young people have suffered severe injuries, including amputations.

Erdogan Seeks Reconciliation with Israel Following Electoral Defeat

Israeli newspaper Maariv claimed Turkish diplomat stated Erdogan had criticized Israel to satisfy the Turkish public ahead of Sunday's local elections

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to improve diplomatic relations with Israel, despite his harsh public rhetoric condemning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his war on Gaza, the Hebrew-language newspaper Maariv reported on 2 April.

Last week, Erdogan said that "Netanyahu and his administration, with their crimes against humanity in Gaza, are writing their names next to Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin, like today's Nazis."

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz summoned the deputy ambassador for Turkiye in Israel in response to the remarks.

According to Maariv, the Turkish deputy ambassador justified Erdogan's comments by telling Jacob Blitstein, the director general of the Foreign Ministry, that "Erdogan's harsh rhetoric against Israel stems from Erdogan's political considerations in the local elections in Turkey."

The Turkish public is strongly supportive of the Palestinian cause and angered by Israel's genocide in Gaza.

Erdogan has continued to allow exports of Turkish goods, including some military items, to Israel since the war began. Some Turkish politicians, including from Erdogan's ruling coalition, have called out Erdogan for what they view as his hypocritical stance toward Israel.

The Turkish deputy ambassador said that after the elections, Erdogan wants to start improving relations with Israel, including exchanging ambassadors once again.

On Sunday, Erdogan's AK Party suffered its worst defeat in decades in local elections throughout Turkiye.

Head of Controversial Global Engagement Center Admits Europe’s Regulatory Power Over Social Media Censorship Enforcement

James Rubin also laments that Big Tech doesn't enforce its terms of service more aggressively.

The head of the US State Department’s highly controversial Global Engagement Center (GEC), James Rubin, appears to be on a “press tour” to promote more stringent regulation around social media, and more censorship.

Rubin is doing this seemingly oblivious of the “elephant in the room” – that GEC is at the center of scandals involving government/Big Tech collusion (this bureau engaged in flagging posts on social media) and even lawsuits stemming from these accusations.

Many of Rubin’s comments made on a recent Politico podcast episode compare and contrast the degree to which the EU and the US are able to regulate social media (and stifle speech).

He also seeks to reinforce the perception of GEC not as a government workaround for carrying out censorship on privately-owned platforms (which would be illegal in the US), but as an entity that is vital in combating “disinformation.”

In this case, AI is considered as a “force for good,” as Rubin revealed GEC would start using it to counter what it decides to consider as “disinformation,” and the policy is also to make sure as many other countries as possible fall in line with the US on this issue.

Regarding what the US could learn from others, Rubin singled out the EU where regulatory frameworks allow the authorities to carry out control and censorship of online information more aggressively, but also praised the work his country, the UK, and Canada are doing together to impose the use of AI watermarks.

Tel Aviv Unable To Destroy Hamas After US ‘Turned Its Back’: Report

As intelligence officials admit that the Palestinian resistance is unlikely to be stomped out, members of the country's ruling party are saying Tel Aviv has failed to achieve nearly all its goals in Gaza after six months

Israeli intelligence officials told The Telegraph that the government's stated goal to “eradicate Hamas” in the Gaza Strip has become unachievable after the US “turned its back" on Tel Aviv by abstaining during a UN Security Council (UNSC) vote earlier this week.

“If you’d asked me this a month ago, I would definitely say yes [we can eliminate Hamas] because, at that time, the Americans were backing Israel,” an Israeli intelligence official told the British daily, reportedly suggesting this assessment “had now changed.”

“The US doesn’t support going into Rafah, which they did before, so the cards right now are not good, meaning Israel has to do something dramatic and drastic to change the momentum and climate,” the source added, highlighting that “pressure is mounting on Israel to reach some sort of a deal, which means Hamas could survive. Both Hamas and the Iranians are playing on that.”

According to the official, the belief inside the Israeli security apparatus is that Hamas is “focused on surviving until the summer,” when the US election campaign will go into full gear.

Although The Telegraph's sources assert the US has left Israel to wage this battle alone, new reports on western media show that Washington has instead taken a more hands-on approach to plan the looming operation in Rafah, Gaza's southernmost city where about 1.5 million Palestinians are taking shelter.

As the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza approaches its sixth month, global pressure has been building on Israel and its western sponsors to stop the bloodshed and allow the entry of humanitarian aid to avert famine.

Nevertheless, Israeli officials maintain that a ground invasion of Rafah is imperative to destroy the “last remaining” Hamas battalions. Despite this assertion, heavy battles between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli army have continued to rage daily in northern and central Gaza.

THE US NOW WANTS A 'DIPLOMATIC SOLUTION' FOR YEMEN.

US Special Envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, said on Wednesday that the US is seeking a diplomatic solution for the Yemeni Armed Forces' blockade of the Red Sea.

This takes a turn from current US policy that has sought to solve the blockade through force, launching attacks on Yemen since February.

Following meetings in Saudi Arabia and Oman, the US special envoy told Reuters, “We favor a diplomatic solution” admitting, “We know there is no military one.”

The Yemeni Armed Forces, along with most of the Axis of Resistance, have previously affirmed that they will only stop their operations once Israel's genocidal war on Gaza is halted.

Yemen Says ‘Surprises’ on Hand as US Envoy Admits ‘No Military Solution’

For nearly three months, the US navy has been fighting a losing battle against Yemen to protect Israeli commercial interests

Senior member from Yemen's Supreme Political Council, Mohammad Ali al-Houthi, announced on April 3 that the Yemeni armed forces still have many military surprises to “defend Yemen and support Palestine.”

“We still have many military surprises,”
Houthi told Yemen's Al-Masirah TV, adding, "The enemy's occupation of part of our land did not hinder our goal to support Palestine."

“From the coast of the Red Sea or from outside it, we can achieve the goals we want in defense of our country and support of Palestine … We still have many military surprises, and there are military operations that we are keeping secret as part of a specific media strategy,” the Yemeni official added.

His comments coincided with a statement from US Special Envoy for Yemen Timothy Lenderking, in which he said “there is no military solution” for Yemen.

"We favor a diplomatic solution; we know that there is no military solution,"
the US official said on Wednesday.
He also repeated US claims that Yemen is “hurting” Palestinians by targeting US, UK, and Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea.

“The Houthis claim to be helping the Palestinians but are hurting them,
” he said in a briefing from Muscat following a meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi. “We all want Yemen to be a source of stability for the region.”

‘Lavender’: The AI Machine Directing Israel’s Bombing Spree in Gaza

The Israeli army has marked tens of thousands of Gazans as suspects for assassination, using an AI targeting system with little human oversight and a permissive policy for casualties, +972 and Local Call reveal.

.....A new investigation by +972 Magazine and Local Call reveals that the Israeli army has developed an artificial intelligence-based program known as “Lavender,” unveiled here for the first time. According to six Israeli intelligence officers, who have all served in the army during the current war on the Gaza Strip and had first-hand involvement with the use of AI to generate targets for assassination, Lavender has played a central role in the unprecedented bombing of Palestinians, especially during the early stages of the war. In fact, according to the sources, its influence on the military’s operations was such that they essentially treated the outputs of the AI machine “as if it were a human decision.”...

During the early stages of the war, the army gave sweeping approval for officers to adopt Lavender’s kill lists, with no requirement to thoroughly check why the machine made those choices or to examine the raw intelligence data on which they were based. One source stated that human personnel often served only as a “rubber stamp” for the machine’s decisions, adding that, normally, they would personally devote only about “20 seconds” to each target before authorizing a bombing
— just to make sure the Lavender-marked target is male. This was despite knowing that the system makes what are regarded as “errors” in approximately 10 percent of cases, and is known to occasionally mark individuals who have merely a loose connection to militant groups, or no connection at all.

Moreover, the Israeli army systematically attacked the targeted individuals while they were in their homes — usually at night while their whole families were present — rather than during the course of military activity. According to the sources, this was because, from what they regarded as an intelligence standpoint, it was easier to locate the individuals in their private houses. Additional automated systems, including one called “Where’s Daddy?” also revealed here for the first time, were used specifically to track the targeted individuals and carry out bombings when they had entered their family’s residences.

Israel, US Brace for Potential Iranian Retaliation for Syria Consulate Bombing

Israeli media reports Israel is preparing for a direct Iranian attack

The US and Israel are bracing for potential Iranian retaliation for the Israeli bombing of Iran’s consulate building in Damascus, which killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including a senior Quds Force commander and another general.

Israel frequently kills Iranians in Syria and conducts covert attacks inside Iran, but the attack on the Iranian consulate marked a huge escalation in its campaign against Tehran. Iran is usually very restrained in its response to Israeli attacks, but according to Al Mayadeen, Israel’s Channel 13 reported that Israel is preparing for a direct Iranian attack.

Israeli security sources said they believed Iran was “determined to respond more than ever before.” Israel’s Channel 12 reported that Israel is at its highest state of alert in preparation for a potential attack.

A direct Iranian attack could be exactly what Israel wants since it appears to be trying to provoke a major regional war in hopes that the US would get directly involved.

Iran Supreme Leader Says Israel Will ‘Be Slapped’ for Consulate Strike

"Iran's Supreme leader says that Israel would "be slapped" after an air strike on the Iranian consular annex in Damascus killed seven Revolutionary Guards"

TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that Israel would “be slapped” after an air strike on the Iranian consular annex in Damascus killed seven Revolutionary Guards, two of them generals.

“The defeat of the Zionist regime in Gaza will continue and this regime will be close to decline and dissolution,”
Khamenei said in a speech to the country’s officials in Tehran.

“Desperate efforts like the one they committed in Syria will not save them from defeat. Of course, they will also be slapped for that action,”
he added.

Iranian state media said 13 people were killed in the strike in which, according to Tehran’s ambassador, Israeli F-35 jets fired six missiles that levelled the five-story consular building adjacent to the embassy.

Iran said the strike killed seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members, including two commanders of the Quds Force — the Guards’ foreign operations arm — Brig. Generals Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Hajji Rahimi.

Zahedi, 63, had held a succession of commands in the force in a Guards career spanning more than four decades.

CNN’s Data Guru Shows How Israel-Hamas War Is Costing Biden Big with Voters in Latest Brutal Poll

BERMAN: “Wall Street Journal released new polling from swing states. And as you can see here, a lot of red. Donald Trump leading President Biden in six of seven swing states. Only in Wisconsin does President Biden hold a very small lead. With us now, CNN senior data Reporter Harry Enten. And the question, Harry, is why?”

ENTEN: “Yeah, you know, let’s take a look here. So this is approval among Democrats on Biden’s handling of a lot of different issues here. The economy, Russia-Ukraine, pretty good, right — 81 percent. Jump down to foreign policy and you see this drops to 65 percent. Gun violence, 60 percent. U.S.-Mexico border, 58 percent. These are not good numbers for a Democrat amongst his own party.

But look here — the Israel-Hamas war. Look at that approval rating. Less than 50 percent of Democrats are approving on Joe Biden on the Israel-Hamas war. And more than that, John, these numbers have gotten significantly worse. So this is Democrats’ views of Biden on the Israel-Hamas war. Look back in October of 2023. It was 67 percent. Look where we are today — 48 percent.

That disapprove number — look at that. It jumped up from 28 percent in October of 2023 to 46 percent. Now, this is within the margin of error. Democrats are split on Joe Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war. John, you know I look at poll numbers a lot. For a president to be doing this poorly amongst his own party on any issue is quite something to see.”

BERMAN: “You can’t be losing 15 percent of Democrats if you’re Joe Biden.”

ENTEN: “You cannot be doing that. This type of base going in the other direction is something you can’t have, especially if you have Independents who are also turning against you.”

Shin Bet Threatens Israeli Protesters After Violent Clashes

Protests in Israel have become increasingly chaotic as Netanyahu is being accused of sabotaging prisoner release talks

The head of Israel’s Shin Bet security agency, Ronen Bar, warned on 3 April that violent demonstrations could lead to “dangerous places,” coming as chaos continues to unfold in protests condemning the government and demanding the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza...

Dozens of Israelis, including the family members of prisoners being held by the Palestinian resistance in Gaza, swarmed the Knesset in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

Protests in Jerusalem also took a chaotic turn on the evening of 2 April, as Israeli police described what they saw as an “unbridled riot.”

Police officers were treated for injuries sustained as a result of clashes with the protesters. The police clamped down aggressively on many of the demonstrators, as evident from video footage circulating on social media.

Tuesday evening marked the third consecutive day that scores of protesters descended on the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in Jerusalem after beginning their demonstration at the Knesset.

Throughout the demonstrations, protesters attempted to break through barricades to enter Netanyahu’s private residence.

Israeli protests have increased recently. On Saturday, protests across several cities were described as the largest since 7 October.

The surge comes as frustration with the government is at an all-time high, with many, including the prisoners' families, accusing Netanyahu of deliberately sabotaging efforts to reach a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.

A senior intelligence source on the team of Israeli negotiator Nitzan Alon was cited by Haaretz as saying, "There are increasing signs that [Netanyahu is] doing almost everything possible to postpone, delay and ruin the chance of a deal to release the hostages.”

US, Israel Divided Over ‘Unrealistic’ Rafah Plans

Tel Aviv has rejected Washington's assertion that an evacuation of Rafah could take several months

Significant differences emerged between Washington and Tel Aviv during a recent virtual meeting on Israel’s planned attack on Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah, according to US and Israeli officials.

US representatives, led by National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, expressed concerns over “unrealistic” Israeli plans to evacuate over one million besieged Palestinians in the city, three sources with knowledge of the meeting told Axios on 3 April, adding that “deep divides” were evident.

The virtual meeting was held on Monday, 1 April.

Israeli officials in the meeting presented “general ideas” for evacuating Rafah’s stranded population, with the US saying “it is an unrealistic estimate and told the Israelis they are underestimating the difficulty of the task,” the sources told Axios.

Washington’s representatives told Israeli officials that the humanitarian catastrophe that has unfolded in Gaza has negatively affected confidence in Israel’s ability to properly evacuate Rafah. Two of the sources said the US believes an evacuation could take up to four months, something that was rejected by Israel during the meeting.

Israeli officials reportedly disagreed that Gaza is facing severe famine, responding to Washington’s warnings on the unmatched food security crisis in the strip – a result of Tel Aviv’s continued blocking of sufficient amounts of aid from entering the enclave.

"It is clear to everybody that we will have to find a middle ground here,
" one source said.

Regarding military operations, Washington stressed an alternative approach to a full-scale invasion of the city, according to the sources. The alternative includes “isolating Rafah from the rest of the Gaza Strip, securing the Egypt–Gaza border, focusing on targeting senior Hamas commanders in the city and conducting intelligence-based raids.”

The virtual meeting on Rafah came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled an initial meeting in response to a US abstention on the UN Security Council’s 25 March resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Irish Government Wants Pre-Election Pact With Tech Giants To Counter Online “Disinformation”

Many governments around the world are no longer at least pretending they don’t see Big Tech as a major political asset, or that they will not try to use that asset to their advantage. Instead, this behavior is slowly being normalized – albeit always qualified as a democracy-preserving, rather than undermining policy.

In other words, something driven by the need to combat “disinformation” and not what critics suspect it is – the need to harness and control the massive reach, influence, and power of major social platforms.

Judging by reports out of Ireland, it is among those countries, with big words like “supercharged disinformation threats to democracy” flying around as the government looks to use what some might call “supercharged fearmongering” to secure no less than a “pre-election pact with tech giants.

Some of this is yet to be enacted through the Electoral Reform Act, so in the meanwhile Big Tech representatives have been summoned to a meeting, via lobbyists representing them, Technology Ireland, to discuss the said “threats.”

The Electoral Reform Act is supposed to formalize new rules for both platforms and those buying ads, while during the meeting, set to take place in late April, tech companies will be expected to sign “the Irish Election Integrity Accord.”

A letter signed by Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien and Minister of State Malcolm Noonan explained that the Accord will be new, but based on the Electoral Reform Act from 2022, and always focusing on “disinformation,” and advertising. What the giants are expected to sign up to is “a set of principles for the sector and the state to work by to safeguard our democracy over these crucial next few months.”
