According to John, The Justice Dept. has made an offer for Mr. Assange to plea guilty to a reduced charge of misuse of classified information. As part of the deal, Assange would be considered to have served his time, and he would be released from Belmarsh and allowed to return to his home country of Australia.
He said not just no, but hell no — that he will not be responsible for the future prosecution of an American journalist because he set a precedent by taking a guilty plea to an espionage charge.
This is a very principled stance of Julian Assange. To take into consideration the well-being of other journalists, while he is suffering greatly, is admirable. One must also consider that if extradited, he will face an unfair trial in the US and is therefore likely to be convicted on multiple counts, which would set an even worse precedent for journalism.
Of course, the appropriate outcome would be for the US to drop the charges, and the decision to take a plea deal is Assange’s decision not ours. But this is a matter of life and death, and I do not think one man should carry the burden for all journalists. No one should fault Assange if he were to take a deal. And if my friend or family member was in this situation, I would encourage them to save their life and take the deal.

💥Netanyahu on Aid Workers Targeted: Shit happens.
"Unfortunately, a tragic instance of our forces unintentionally harming innocent people in the Gaza Strip. It happens in war.
We'll investigate it. We're in contact with the governments, and we will do everything so that it doesn't happen again."

Netanyahu: Whole World Is Ganging up on Us. It’s a Combination of Ignorance and Antisemitism
3/31 — In the final minutes of his press conference, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returns to an earlier partial question put to him about why it is that the world is apparently siding against Israel.
“What has happened in the past few months was that the terrible massacre” of Oct 7 “was quickly forgotten,” he says, “and the whole world is ganging up on us. And there are people here and abroad who say maybe there’s something to this; maybe we’re really not ok.”
He says the criticism, including international and US criticism, focuses on the claim that Israel and the IDF are “not doing enough to minimize civilian casualties. That’s simply not so,” he insists. “And it’s not just me saying this.”
He cites world-renowned experts in urban war like David Petraeus and John Spencer who, he says, argue that “there is no army in the world that has done and does what the IDF has done to minimize the number of casualties and achieve achievements no other army has managed.”
Speaking more passionately than hitherto, he asks how it can be that “good people” in the world are teaming up against Israel, that there are major demonstrations in world capitals, and yet “not a word was said about the millions massacred or uprooted from their homes in the Syrian civil war, or in Yemen’s internal war and elsewhere? And on the much smaller number — every dead civilian, every such loss is, of course, a tragedy, but it can’t be compared; we are talking about very small numbers, compared to the massacre of millions… how can it be that the worst things are believed: genocide, those claims against the state of Israel?”
He says, “I once asked that question of my father, a world-renowned historian who dealt at length with antisemitism. I asked him, How can it have been that they believed, in ancient times, 500 years before Christianity, the worst against the Jews; in the Middle Ages, that we used the blood of Christian babies to bake matzah; and in the modern era, what the Nazi disseminated? How can it be that millions around the world believed this? It must be ignorance, I said.”
His father, says Netanyahu, answered: “Not only ignorance.”
“Ignorance can’t explain why a great French philosopher like Voltaire believed the antisemitic allegations,” Netanyahu recalls his father saying, “or a great Russian writer like Dostoevsky believed the antisemitic lies.”
“There is a virus that has accompanied us for millennia now,” says the prime minister, “a virus of antisemitism” that changes shape but abides. “The question is what do we do about it.”

‘Not a Normal War’: Doctors Say Children Have Been Targeted by Israeli Snipers in Gaza
IDF says it ‘completely rejects’ charge that its soldiers deliberately fired on any of the thousands of civilians killed in Israeli offensive
Dr Fozia Alvi was making her rounds of the intensive care unit on her final day at the battered European public hospital in southern Gaza when she stopped next to two young arrivals with facial injuries and breathing tubes in their windpipes.
“I asked the nurse, what’s the history? She said that they were brought in a couple of hours ago. They had sniper shots to the brain. They were seven or eight years old,” she said.
The Canadian doctor’s heart sank. These were not the first children treated by Alvi who she was told were targeted by Israeli soldiers, and she knew the damage a single high-calibre bullet could do to a fragile young body.
“They were not able to talk, paraplegic. They were literally lying down as vegetables on those beds. They were not the only ones. I saw even small children with direct sniper shot wounds to the head as well as in the chest. They were not combatants, they were small children,” said Alvi.
Children account for more than one in three of the more than 32,000 people killed in Israel’s months-long assault on Gaza, according to the Palestinian health ministry. Tens of thousands more young people have suffered severe injuries, including amputations.

Erdogan Seeks Reconciliation with Israel Following Electoral Defeat
Israeli newspaper Maariv claimed Turkish diplomat stated Erdogan had criticized Israel to satisfy the Turkish public ahead of Sunday's local elections
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to improve diplomatic relations with Israel, despite his harsh public rhetoric condemning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his war on Gaza, the Hebrew-language newspaper Maariv reported on 2 April.
Last week, Erdogan said that "Netanyahu and his administration, with their crimes against humanity in Gaza, are writing their names next to Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin, like today's Nazis."
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz summoned the deputy ambassador for Turkiye in Israel in response to the remarks.
According to Maariv, the Turkish deputy ambassador justified Erdogan's comments by telling Jacob Blitstein, the director general of the Foreign Ministry, that "Erdogan's harsh rhetoric against Israel stems from Erdogan's political considerations in the local elections in Turkey."
The Turkish public is strongly supportive of the Palestinian cause and angered by Israel's genocide in Gaza.
Erdogan has continued to allow exports of Turkish goods, including some military items, to Israel since the war began. Some Turkish politicians, including from Erdogan's ruling coalition, have called out Erdogan for what they view as his hypocritical stance toward Israel.
The Turkish deputy ambassador said that after the elections, Erdogan wants to start improving relations with Israel, including exchanging ambassadors once again.
On Sunday, Erdogan's AK Party suffered its worst defeat in decades in local elections throughout Turkiye.

Head of Controversial Global Engagement Center Admits Europe’s Regulatory Power Over Social Media Censorship Enforcement
James Rubin also laments that Big Tech doesn't enforce its terms of service more aggressively.
The head of the US State Department’s highly controversial Global Engagement Center (GEC), James Rubin, appears to be on a “press tour” to promote more stringent regulation around social media, and more censorship.
Rubin is doing this seemingly oblivious of the “elephant in the room” – that GEC is at the center of scandals involving government/Big Tech collusion (this bureau engaged in flagging posts on social media) and even lawsuits stemming from these accusations.
Many of Rubin’s comments made on a recent Politico podcast episode compare and contrast the degree to which the EU and the US are able to regulate social media (and stifle speech).
He also seeks to reinforce the perception of GEC not as a government workaround for carrying out censorship on privately-owned platforms (which would be illegal in the US), but as an entity that is vital in combating “disinformation.”
In this case, AI is considered as a “force for good,” as Rubin revealed GEC would start using it to counter what it decides to consider as “disinformation,” and the policy is also to make sure as many other countries as possible fall in line with the US on this issue.
Regarding what the US could learn from others, Rubin singled out the EU where regulatory frameworks allow the authorities to carry out control and censorship of online information more aggressively, but also praised the work his country, the UK, and Canada are doing together to impose the use of AI watermarks.

Tel Aviv Unable To Destroy Hamas After US ‘Turned Its Back’: Report
As intelligence officials admit that the Palestinian resistance is unlikely to be stomped out, members of the country's ruling party are saying Tel Aviv has failed to achieve nearly all its goals in Gaza after six months
Israeli intelligence officials told The Telegraph that the government's stated goal to “eradicate Hamas” in the Gaza Strip has become unachievable after the US “turned its back" on Tel Aviv by abstaining during a UN Security Council (UNSC) vote earlier this week.
“If you’d asked me this a month ago, I would definitely say yes [we can eliminate Hamas] because, at that time, the Americans were backing Israel,” an Israeli intelligence official told the British daily, reportedly suggesting this assessment “had now changed.”
“The US doesn’t support going into Rafah, which they did before, so the cards right now are not good, meaning Israel has to do something dramatic and drastic to change the momentum and climate,” the source added, highlighting that “pressure is mounting on Israel to reach some sort of a deal, which means Hamas could survive. Both Hamas and the Iranians are playing on that.”
According to the official, the belief inside the Israeli security apparatus is that Hamas is “focused on surviving until the summer,” when the US election campaign will go into full gear.
Although The Telegraph's sources assert the US has left Israel to wage this battle alone, new reports on western media show that Washington has instead taken a more hands-on approach to plan the looming operation in Rafah, Gaza's southernmost city where about 1.5 million Palestinians are taking shelter.
As the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza approaches its sixth month, global pressure has been building on Israel and its western sponsors to stop the bloodshed and allow the entry of humanitarian aid to avert famine.
Nevertheless, Israeli officials maintain that a ground invasion of Rafah is imperative to destroy the “last remaining” Hamas battalions. Despite this assertion, heavy battles between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli army have continued to rage daily in northern and central Gaza.

THE US NOW WANTS A 'DIPLOMATIC SOLUTION' FOR YEMEN.
US Special Envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, said on Wednesday that the US is seeking a diplomatic solution for the Yemeni Armed Forces' blockade of the Red Sea.
This takes a turn from current US policy that has sought to solve the blockade through force, launching attacks on Yemen since February.
Following meetings in Saudi Arabia and Oman, the US special envoy told Reuters, “We favor a diplomatic solution” admitting, “We know there is no military one.”
The Yemeni Armed Forces, along with most of the Axis of Resistance, have previously affirmed that they will only stop their operations once Israel's genocidal war on Gaza is halted.

CDC Releases Paper on Myocarditis After COVID Vaccination—and EVERY WORD Is Redacted
“That page is not blank because we messed up. That’s on purpose.”
Dr. McCullough described this move by the CDC as “gross malfeasance.”
His conclusion: “This manuscript almost certainly shows serious myocarditis as a result of the vaccines.”
“The CDC, because they’re still pushing the vaccines, they don’t wanna show this to Americans. So now the CDC is intentionally deceiving the public on an emerging public health crisis. That is, myocarditis after the vaccines.”

Yemen Says ‘Surprises’ on Hand as US Envoy Admits ‘No Military Solution’
For nearly three months, the US navy has been fighting a losing battle against Yemen to protect Israeli commercial interests
Senior member from Yemen's Supreme Political Council, Mohammad Ali al-Houthi, announced on April 3 that the Yemeni armed forces still have many military surprises to “defend Yemen and support Palestine.”
“We still have many military surprises,” Houthi told Yemen's Al-Masirah TV, adding, "The enemy's occupation of part of our land did not hinder our goal to support Palestine."
“From the coast of the Red Sea or from outside it, we can achieve the goals we want in defense of our country and support of Palestine … We still have many military surprises, and there are military operations that we are keeping secret as part of a specific media strategy,” the Yemeni official added.
His comments coincided with a statement from US Special Envoy for Yemen Timothy Lenderking, in which he said “there is no military solution” for Yemen.
"We favor a diplomatic solution; we know that there is no military solution," the US official said on Wednesday.
He also repeated US claims that Yemen is “hurting” Palestinians by targeting US, UK, and Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea.
“The Houthis claim to be helping the Palestinians but are hurting them,” he said in a briefing from Muscat following a meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi. “We all want Yemen to be a source of stability for the region.”
