Facebook Snooped on Users’ Snapchat Traffic in Secret Project, Documents Reveal
In 2016, Facebook launched a secret project designed to intercept and decrypt the network traffic between people using Snapchat’s app and its servers. The goal was to understand users’ behavior and help Facebook compete with Snapchat, according to newly unsealed court documents. Facebook called this “Project Ghostbusters,” in a clear reference to Snapchat’s ghost-like logo.
On Tuesday, a federal court in California released new documents discovered as part of the class action lawsuit between consumers and Meta, Facebook’s parent company.
The newly released documents reveal how Meta tried to gain a competitive advantage over its competitors, including Snapchat and later Amazon and YouTube, by analyzing the network traffic of how its users were interacting with Meta’s competitors. Given these apps’ use of encryption, Facebook needed to develop special technology to get around it.
One of the documents details Facebook’s Project Ghostbusters. The project was part of the company’s In-App Action Panel (IAPP) program, which used a technique for “intercepting and decrypting” encrypted app traffic from users of Snapchat, and later from users of YouTube and Amazon, the consumers’ lawyers wrote in the document.
The document includes internal Facebook emails discussing the project.
“Whenever someone asks a question about Snapchat, the answer is usually that because their traffic is encrypted we have no analytics about them,” Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg wrote in an email dated June 9, 2016, which was published as part of the lawsuit. “Given how quickly they’re growing, it seems important to figure out a new way to get reliable analytics about them. Perhaps we need to do panels or write custom software. You should figure out how to do this.”
Facebook’s engineers solution was to use Onavo, a VPN-like service that Facebook acquired in 2013. In 2019, Facebook shut down Onavo after a TechCrunch investigation revealed that Facebook had been secretly paying teenagers to use Onavo so the company could access all of their web activity.

Austin Tells Gallant US-Israel ‘Security Bond’ Is ‘Unshakable’
The Israeli defense minister is in Washington to ensure continued US support for the massacre in Gaza
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin hosted Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in Washington on Tuesday and declared the US-Israel military relationship is “unshakable” as the Israeli slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza continues.
“Yoav, your security bond is — our security bond is unshakable. The United States is Israel’s closest friend, and that won’t change,” Austin said in remarks welcoming Gallant.
Austin also detailed his close coordination with Gallant since October. “You know, I’ve been to Israel twice since that awful day of October 7th, including just six days after Hamas assaulted your country. And we’ve spoken by phone nearly 40 times,” he said.
The purpose of Gallant’s trip was to ensure continued US support for Israel’s military and to ask for more weapons. Officials told CNN that he was expected to ask for more precision-guided munitions and F-35 and F-15 fighter jets.
“Today, we will discuss developments in Gaza and the means to achieve our goals: the destruction of Hamas organization and bringing back the Israeli hostages back home,” Gallant said.
Austin claimed the US was concerned about the massive civilian death toll in Gaza and the Israeli restrictions on aid. But unconditional US military support has continued despite the atrocities being committed.
The meeting came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled another planned delegation to Washington meant to discuss Israel’s plans to attack Rafah because the US didn’t veto a UN Security Council resolution calling for a Ramadan ceasefire in Gaza.

Feds Search Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs’ Properties as Part of Sex Trafficking Probe, AP Sources
Two properties belonging to music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs in Los Angeles and Miami were searched Monday by federal Homeland Security Investigations agents and other law enforcement as part of an ongoing sex trafficking investigation by federal authorities in New York, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.
It’s not clear whether Combs was the target of the investigation. The officials were not authorized to publicly discuss details of the investigation and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

“He has a very questionable past that he’s been able to control because of his power for a very long time,” Derrick Parker, who was a detective in the NYPD’s rap intelligence unit (aka “Hip Hop Cops”), told The Post.
“But it looks to me like someone is behind this — someone who really wants to destroy his brand and take him down.”
Parker was referring to Homeland Security agents swarming Combs’ homes in Los Angeles and Miami Monday in a TV thriller-style surprise raid.
The cross-country invasion was reportedly related to sex-trafficking allegations, law enforcement sources told The Post.
Meanwhile, a dazed-looking Combs, 54, was seen at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport Monday afternoon after his private jet was stopped by feds on the tarmac — apparently bound for a Caribbean spring break with some of his seven kids.
Around the same time, the entrepreneur’s alleged “drug mule,” Brendan Paul, 25, was arrested on suspicion of cocaine and marijuana possession in Miami.
It all happened almost one day to the month since Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones — a former producer and videographer for Diddy — filed an explosive lawsuit claiming the music mogul repeatedly sexually assaulted him from September 2022 to November 2023.
Jones accused Combs of groping his genitals and grooming him into having sex.
....After news of the raid broke, old videos and interviews resurfaced online — some showing Usher, who was only 13 when he was sent to Diddy’s “Puffy Flavor Camp” at the impresario’s luxe Scarsdale mansion.
Usher, now 45, told Howard Stern in 2016 that he had seen “very curious things taking place” at the “camp” and that he would never send a child of his somewhere like that.
“It was pretty wild. It was crazy. There were very curious things taking place and I didn’t necessarily understand it,” Usher told Stern.
In a 2004 interview with Rolling Stone, Usher recalled how Diddy introduced him to “a totally different set of s–t — sex, specifically.”
Parker, who’s now a private investigator, told The Post that the feds may have an informant from Diddy’s inner circle.

I’m Being Sued for $190,000 by Someone Living Illegally On My Land – I’m Begging Them to Leave Me Alone So I Can Build
SQUATTERS have gone to extreme lengths to stay on a landowner's property, including suing him for thousands of dollars amid a four-year eviction battle.
David Morris wants to build affordable housing on his Atlanta property, but a group of squatters are doing everything in their power to stop it.
"It's frustrating that I'm having to spend so much money. I spent $10,000 on cleaning up garbage from vagrants," Morris told local Fox affiliate WAGA-TV.
He previously had a non-profit that he allowed four people to live at if they maintained the property.
However, in 2020, he had to shut down the non-profit but the people refused to leave.
"The people who were living on the land started having other people live on the land, their friends," Morris said.
"I tried to file eviction, and the city of Atlanta said, ‘Sorry, we have a moratorium on evictions right now.’"
For the last four years, at least eight people have been living on Morris's land rent-free.
One person even took things a step further and attempted to file a counter-claim against him for $190,000.
"That was dismissed, and that counter-claim, because they didn't show up in court," Morris explained.
"So, it will take, I am predicting, another 30 days before the marshals will call me to schedule a time for me to have five people here to move everything from there to the street."
Morris's land has become a hot commodity for squatters.
Last year, over two dozen people were detained on Morris's property after activists against the construction of the planned Atlanta Public Safety Training Center set up camps to protest.
At the time, Morris was living in California but was informed about the situation.
"The entire medical staff of 'Stop Cop City' camped on this land. There was about 30 campers and the police came in and pulled them out of their tents," said Morris, who says he has no political ties to the situation.
"I'm neutral, yeah, I'm not on either side."
Despite the years of trouble, Morris is one step closer to removing the trespassers from his land.
According to his attorney, David Perrie, Morris was granted a Writ of Possession on March 21. This is a court order for landlords who are looking to terminate a tenant's right to possession when they refuse to leave.
Morris is hoping to make major changes to stop this from ever happening to him again.
"We're going to build just a big fence here and a gate and put no trespassing signs. I'm not going to build it until all of the tenants are out," said Morris.
"You know, start getting this place cleaned up."
Unfortunately, homeowners around the country have been dealing with people illegally living in their homes.
The U.S. Sun previously reported about Adele Andaloro, who was arrested for changing the locks on her property after squatters claimed to have lived there for months.

UN Expert Says Israel Committing Genocide in Gaza
UN experts on human rights stated Israel was committing genocide in Gaza. The statement comes as the nearly six-month-long Israeli onslaught in Gaza has killed at least 32,000 people and has put over a million Palestinians on the brink of famine.
Francesca Albanese, the UN’s special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied territories, said she assesses that the Israeli crimes in Gaza amount to genocide. Albanese explained the “threshold indicating the commission of the crime of genocide . . . has been met.” She said the assessment means there should be an arms embargo on Israel.
Albanese pointed to three Israeli crimes that led her to label the brutal military operations a genocide. She explained Israel is “causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part, and imposing measures intended to prevent birth within the group.”

UN experts on human rights stated Israel was committing genocide in Gaza. The statement comes as the nearly six-month-long Israeli onslaught in Gaza has killed at least 32,000 people and has put over a million Palestinians on the brink of famine.
Francesca Albanese, the UN’s special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied territories, said she assesses that the Israeli crimes in Gaza amount to genocide. Albanese explained the “threshold indicating the commission of the crime of genocide . . . has been met.” She said the assessment means there should be an arms embargo on Israel.
Albanese pointed to three Israeli crimes that led her to label the brutal military operations a genocide. She explained Israel is “causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part, and imposing measures intended to prevent birth within the group.”

Lawyer Behind 'Hamas Rape' Claims Exposed as Fraud
Employees of Israeli ministries claim that Cochav Elkayam-Levy has spread fake news and sought to make millions off her false claims about Hamas carrying out mass rapes on 7 October
Israeli officials have "dissociated themselves" from a lawyer who has played a vital role in promoting false claims that Hamas carried out systematic rape and sexual abuse on 7 October, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on 24 March.
The Israeli newspaper reported claims by Israeli ministry officials that lawyer Cochav Elkayam-Levy had produced inaccurate research, spread false stories about Hamas atrocities, and sought to collect millions of dollars in donations for a so-called ‘civic commission’ of which she is the only member.
Elkayam-Levy, who is the head of the Deborah Institute and a lecturer in the Department of International Relations at the Hebrew University, was among the first to spread false claims that Hamas had carried out systematic rape during Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
As The Grayzone detailed, Elkayam-Levy presented images of female Kurdish fighters killed in Syria while claiming they were Jewish Israeli women who had been killed and raped by Hamas fighters at the Nova Music Festival on 7 October.
The Grayzone further noted that Elkayam-Levy gained significant public attention in December after being interviewed by CNN's Jake Tapper and meeting with members of the White House National Security Council and Assistant to the President and Director of the Gender Policy Council Jennifer Klein in Washington.
"People disassociated themselves from her because her research is inaccurate," explained an official in one of the government offices speaking with Yedioth Ahronoth. "After all, the whole story is that they [Palestinians] want to accuse us of spreading fake news, and her methodology was neither good nor accurate."
Elkayam-Levy spread the story in the international press "about the pregnant woman who had her stomach cut open – a story that was proven to be untrue," one official complained. "It's no joke. Little by little, professionals began to distance themselves from her because she is unreliable."

Google Is Ordered To Identify Who Watched Certain YouTube Videos
US federal law enforcement and courts have gone a step further in the extreme efforts they are making to surveil people’s activities online, including on Google’s vast platforms.
The latest is that the tech giant gets orders to identify all people who happen to be watching certain videos or livestreams on YouTube.
After directly censoring creators and channels, giving geolocation data of its users to the authorities in response to the controversial geofencing warrants, this is a new example of how Google can be used and abused in dragnet-style “investigations.”
Unmasking everyone who watched a particular video is similar to geofencing in that it makes everyone a suspect – and this, a number of experts and rights groups believe, is unconstitutional, i.e., in violation of the 4th Amendment, that protects from unreasonable searches.
Forbes writes that it has had access to several orders that name certain YouTube videos, citing one unsealed case originating in Kentucky and having to do with people viewing content posted by a user who law enforcement suspects of money laundering for selling bitcoin for cash.
Undercover agents had contacted the user, sending links to drone mapping and AR tutorials, to next turn to Google, asking to be told who watched the videos.
The videos had more than 30,000 views, and a court ordered that any user who did, between January 1 and 8, 2003, must be thoroughly unmasked.
The order wanted names, addresses, phone numbers, and account activity of each Google user, and IP addresses of everyone who watched the videos without an account.
“It’s fair to expect that law enforcement won’t have access to that (sensitive personal) information without probable cause,” commented Electronic Privacy Information Center’s John Davisson. “This order turns that assumption on its head.”
When the police asked for the order to be issued, they stated, “There is reason to believe that these records would be relevant and material to an ongoing criminal investigation.”
Although Google complied with the demand to keep silent about all this until the records were unsealed last week, according to Forbes, they “do not show whether or not Google provided data in the case.”

IDF Officer: ‘We Demolishing Everything Before Entering’
A senior Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officer said that Tel Aviv is engaged in an overly wasteful war in Gaza. The soldier went on to estimate that Israelis could have achieved similar results against Hamas with only ten percent of the destruction inflicted upon the Strip.
Speaking with Haaretz, the IDF officer said the operations were wasteful, and the same objectives could have been accomplished with far less destruction. “Our form of combat at the moment is unusually wasteful. You could term it ’a war of cruel rich people.’ We’re attacking innumerable targets, without asking whether it’s worth attacking them, and artillery is being used in places where it’s not really obligatory,” he said.
“The fact that we are demolishing everything before entering is being manifested in the duration of the operation. If you’d asked before the war how long it would take us to conquer Gaza, the answer would’ve been that we were talking about a situation that could be accomplished in far less than four months.” The officer added, “In principle, it would be possible to arrive at similar achievements with 10 percent of the destruction we have caused.”
While Tel Aviv does not publish official numbers, some sources told Haaretz that over the past six months, Israel has “dropped tens of thousands of bombs on the Strip, along with the hundreds of thousands of shells that have been fired into the enclave.” The IDF officer described “the amount of munitions” used in Gaza as “unprecedented, and to critical eyes this is wasteful, protracted combat.”

In an effort to cripple Palestinian society, the IDF is additionally targeting infrastructure such as banks and universities
The officer claimed the IDF employed this tactic to reduce troop casualties but questioned the policy’s effectiveness. “Our assumption is that if we had sown less destruction, we would have sustained more casualties,” he said. “On the other hand, however, less destruction would have meant that we would be on the ground there for less time – and less time means fewer casualties.” The officer added, “We… prefer to apply force powerfully and cruelly over taking risks.”
As Israel is committed to relying heavily on munitions to fight in Gaza, Tel Aviv’s arms stockpiles are running short. Tel Aviv mainly relies on Washington for arms. However, Israel has been forced to seek other sources and fire thousands of munitions with high dud rates. Duds present a problem for Israel as an investigation by The New York Times found most of Hamas’s explosives are made from Israeli bombs which failed to denotate.
Israel’s extensive use of munitions to fight should give the White House increased leverage over Tel Aviv. President Biden, however, has refused to condition any US military aid to Israel. Last week, Congress authorized sending the annual $3.8 billion in military assistance to Tel Aviv as part of a $1.2 trillion spending bill.

A senior Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officer said that Tel Aviv is engaged in an overly wasteful war in Gaza. The soldier went on to estimate that Israelis could have achieved similar results against Hamas with only ten percent of the destruction inflicted upon the Strip.
Speaking with Haaretz, the IDF officer said the operations were wasteful, and the same objectives could have been accomplished with far less destruction. “Our form of combat at the moment is unusually wasteful. You could term it ’a war of cruel rich people.’ We’re attacking innumerable targets, without asking whether it’s worth attacking them, and artillery is being used in places where it’s not really obligatory,” he said.
“The fact that we are demolishing everything before entering is being manifested in the duration of the operation. If you’d asked before the war how long it would take us to conquer Gaza, the answer would’ve been that we were talking about a situation that could be accomplished in far less than four months.” The officer added, “In principle, it would be possible to arrive at similar achievements with 10 percent of the destruction we have caused.”
While Tel Aviv does not publish official numbers, some sources told Haaretz that over the past six months, Israel has “dropped tens of thousands of bombs on the Strip, along with the hundreds of thousands of shells that have been fired into the enclave.” The IDF officer described “the amount of munitions” used in Gaza as “unprecedented, and to critical eyes this is wasteful, protracted combat.”

Israel’s Attempt to Destroy UNRWA is Part of Its Starvation Strategy in Gaza
This attack could not come at a worse time for Palestinians. Hunger is widespread in Gaza, and famine is projected in the north by May
Israel’s vendetta against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (Unrwa) illustrates the callousness with which Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government has fought the war in Gaza. It also reflects an effort to use Hamas’s 7 October attack as an opportunity for demographic re-engineering.
... In January 2024, the Israeli government alleged that 12 members of Unrwa’s staff had taken part in the 7 October attack. Although Israel has been slow to provide evidence, Unrwa immediately dismissed 10 of the 12 (the other two were said to be dead) and vowed to hold accountable anyone implicated in the attack. The UN also launched an investigation. These steps are exactly what a responsible agency should take.
But the Israeli government saw a broader opportunity. It distributed “intelligence reports” that were said to show that 10% of Unrwa’s staff had unspecified “ties” to Islamist militant groups in Gaza. Israel then pressed governments to suspend funding for Unrwa, which many did, including the United States, Unrwa’s largest funder, and Britain. Some of these governments, including those of the EU, Canada and Australia, have now at least partially resumed funding. Britain and others are awaiting a report on the UN’s internal investigation. The budget deal earlier this month that kept the US government funded through the end of September barred any US funding of Unrwa for a year. (US military aid and arms sales continue, even as Israel bombs and starves Palestinian civilians.)
This attack on UNRWA could not come at a worse time for the Palestinian civilians of Gaza. As has been widely reported, hunger is widespread in Gaza, and famine is projected in the north by May if current trends persist.
With UNRWA’s 13,000 employees in Gaza, “No other entity has the capacity to deliver the scale and breadth of assistance that 2.2 million people in Gaza urgently need,” according to UN leaders. Eight of the biggest private humanitarian agencies working in Gaza said: “The plain reality is that Unrwa’s humanitarian role in this crisis is indispensable and cannot remotely be replaced by any other aid organization.”
Destroying Unrwa thus furthers the Netanyahu government’s starvation strategy for Gaza. Since the siege it imposed on 7 October, the Israeli government has been letting in just enough food to avoid widespread deaths but nowhere near enough to alleviate hunger or to dim the prospects of famine.
