Tel Aviv Expands Illegal Reign Over Palestinian Land

Israel’s current government has been working towards an unlawful annexation of the occupied West Bank and continues to expand illegal settlements

The Israeli government has designated nearly 2,000 acres of Palestinian land in the occupied Jordan Valley as state-owned property, aimed at further expansion of its illegal settlements.

Hebrew broadcaster Kan reported on 22 March that the move will allow for the construction of over 100 settlement housing units and the establishment of an area for industry and commerce.

The designation was overseen by Israel’s Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who has continuously sought to expand illegal settlement and advance a project for an Israeli annexation of the occupied West Bank.

Declaring the Palestinian land as Israeli-owned is “an important and strategic issue,” Smotrich said.

“While there are those in Israel and the world who seek to undermine our right to Judea and Samaria and the country in general, we promote the settlement movement with hard work and in a strategic manner across the country,” the minister added.

Since the start of the war in Gaza, Israel has taken the opportunity to expand illegal settlements on Palestinian land.

Between October and January, Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank have built at least 15 illegal outposts and 18 illegal roads, as well as hundreds of meters of fencing and multiple roadblocks, Al-Jazeera reported this week.

The findings are based on data gathered by activists and validated with satellite images by Al-Jazeera's verification unit, Sanad.

Smotrich has been at the head of efforts to expand illegal settlements with the goal of an eventual Israeli annexation of the West Bank. He has also called for an annexation of the Jordan Valley.

Israel illegally occupied the West Bank during the 1967 war. However, it was never formally annexed.

In June last year, an agreement between Smotrich, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant resulted in the transfer of a significant bulk of the occupied West Bank’s administration away from the army and into the finance minister’s hands.

The move gave Smotrich increased power over civilian issues in the West Bank, including authority over unlicensed settler outposts and settlement construction plans.

The two ministers who obtained mortgages to build homes in this way illegally are Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Yehuda Eliyahu, Smotrich's right-hand man and head of the Defense Ministry's new Settlement Administration.

In 2017, Haaretz found that Smotrich's house in the settlement of Kedumim was built illegally under Israeli law.

While illegally building homes themselves, both Smotrich and Eliyahu founded an NGO decades ago called Regavim, which is committed to preventing Palestinian construction and demolishing Palestinian homes, schools, and other infrastructure in the West Bank....

Telegram Secures $330 Million in Bond Sales

Popular messaging platform Telegram raised $330 million through bond sales last week, founder and CEO Pavel Durov said on Monday.

The offering was oversubscribed and terms of the bond were favorable for the company, Durov wrote on his own Telegram channel.

"The increased demand for our bonds shows that global financial institutions value Telegram's growth in audience and monetization," he wrote.

Alabama Governor Signs Bill Prohibiting DEI Programs At Schools, State Agencies

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed a sweeping bill that prohibits the use of state funds for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and offices at state agencies, higher education institutions and other public entities.

"My administration has and will continue to value Alabama's rich diversity, however, I refuse to allow a few bad actors on college campuses – or wherever else for that matter – to go under the acronym of DEI, using taxpayer funds, to push their liberal political movement counter to what the majority of Alabamians believe," Ivey said in a March 20 statement to news outlets...

NPR Reported:

"If you look at the way this has actually been implemented across the country, DEI is better viewed as standing for discrimination, exclusion and indoctrination," DeSantis said during a news conference at New College of Florida in Sarasota. "And that has no place in our public institutions."

DeSantis said Monday that he's viewed DEI initiatives as a discriminatory practice. "This bill says the whole experiment with DEI is coming to an end in the state of Florida. We are eliminating the DEI programs."

Director of Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport Director Killed In Shootout With Federal Agents Amid Weapons Sales Probe

Investigators alleged that Mr Malinowski had bought more than 150 guns from May 2021 to 27 February this year, including AR-style pistols, and shipped them to a business that is redacted in the affidavit where he picked them up.

The affidavit alleges that he filled out ATF Form 4773, which warns that a gun can’t be for someone else and that the “repetitive purchase of firearms” in order to sell them for a profit without a licence is illegal, before the weapons were handed over to him.

The document also accuses Mr Malinowski of selling guns, including at gun shows. At one show, he was allegedly seen selling firearms to a customer without asking for any ID or paperwork.

Investigators said he told an undercover agent that because they were private sales, no paperwork was needed.

According to the affidavit, filed by an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, six guns were later recovered in the commission of a crime, and undercover ATF agents bought three others at gun shows.

One of the guns cited in the affidavit was found on a 15-year-old Norteño gang member in California in 2022, the document added.

In a statement released on Thursday, Mr Malinowski’s family said that they have “endured an unspeakable tragedy and one that is almost impossible to understand.”

They also questioned why the ATF conducted what they characterized as a raid on a private home that led to the gunfire.

“Even if the allegations in the affidavit are true, they don’t begin to justify what happened,” the family said, adding: “At worst, Bryan Malinowski, a gun owner and gun enthusiast, stood accused of making private firearm sales to a person who may not have been legally entitled to purchase the guns.”

The family said they are now waiting for “all the facts to come out.”

Netanyahu Furious At Defense Minister As Cracks In War Cabinet Deepen

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant refused to support Netanyahu's proposed legislation to exempt the ultra-orthodox from conscription to the army

The relationship between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant reached a new low this week over a disagreement about efforts to pass a new law to exempt Israel's Haredi (ultra-orthodox) Jews from military conscription, Israel Hayom reported on 22 March.

The dispute occurred during Thursday's weekly cabinet meeting, in which Netanyahu, Shas party leader Aryeh Deri, and Justice Minister Yariv Levin asked Gallant to support the legislation.

Gallant refused, saying he would only support legislation supported by Benny Gantz, a war cabinet member and rival to Netanyahu. Gantz has refused to attend cabinet meetings to discuss the law and angered Netanyahu after traveling to Washington and London earlier this month on visits the prime minister refused to authorize.

According to Israel Hayom, Netanyahu offered Defense Minister Gallant a proposal: "I understand that this is a law that you are supposed to bring and be signed by as the Minister of Defense, but I will not let you absorb the fire alone. I will bring the proposal as prime minister, and you will only support it."

However, Gallant refused and “suggested that the Prime Minister be the one to bring the bill and he [Gallant] would oppose it. This upset everyone in the room.”

“Netanyahu, Deri, and Levin are furious. They see Gallant as someone who does politics at their expense.”

The Israeli paper noted that relations between Gallant and Netanyahu were poor at the start of the war on Gaza but have never been worse than now. However, Netanyahu can't sack Gallant amid the war, as this would result in a public backlash.

In January, Gallant accused Netanyahu of harming Israel’s security, while Netanyahu banned Gallant from holding meetings with the heads of Israel’s security and intelligence agencies to discuss a new prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.

Israel Deploys Army Of Bots To Spread Anti-UNRWA Propaganda: Report

A network of websites and fake social media accounts have sought to spread false news linking UNRWA to the 7 October Hamas attack among US progressives

Israel is executing an online influence campaign using hundreds of fake social media accounts to advance "Israeli interests" among progressive western audiences, including US lawmakers, Haaretz reported on 19 March, citing an investigation by Israeli media watchdog group Fake Reporter.

The campaign is focused specifically on amplifying reports claiming the involvement of UNRWA workers in the 7 October attack on Israel. As The Cradle has reported previously, Israel provided no evidence for its claims, which were part of a campaign to compel western nations to cut funding to the agency. UNRWA plays a crucial role in delivering aid to Palestinians amid Israel's campaign to impose famine in Gaza.

Researchers at Fake Reporter pinpointed three fake ‘news sites’ specifically created for the operation. The sites amplified reports copied from other real news outlets, such as CNN, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The Jerusalem Post, and The Times of Israel, which promoted Israel's narrative about the war.

Hundreds of fake social media accounts then intensively promoted the "reports" from the specially-created websites and other news outlets.

The three websites at the center of the campaign were established before the war in Gaza but became active only after it began.

The fake social media accounts seemed to be ‘cyborgs,’ meaning they operate using a combination of artificial intelligence and real people with fake online personalities. The avatars claimed to portray average US citizens, including white, Jewish, and African–American ones.

The avatars were all created on the same date, used the same profile photos and naming conventions, and shared other characteristics that indicate they are all part of the same network, Fake Reporter found.

Over 500 fake accounts were opened for the campaign on Facebook, Instagram, and X.

Their avatars began to post messages about a wide array of topics, including the alleged lack of safety for Jewish Americans on college campuses, discrimination against Jewish students, and false allegations Hamas committed mass rape on 7 October.

At the end of January, after acquiring tens of thousands of followers, the fake accounts pivoted toward spreading Israel's false allegations about UNRWA employees participating in the 7 October attack.

The avatars worked to inorganically amplify the ‘shocking’ and ‘disturbing’ allegations about UNRWA.

They responded to social media posts by US lawmakers, influencers, and prominent news outlets.

The campaign's avatars targeted posts by African–American Democratic lawmakers, including Ritchie Torres, Cori Bush, and Jamal Bowman, who received the most such comments.

Haaretz noted that targeting Democratic African–American lawmakers seemed to be an attempt to counter the wave of support they have given to Palestinians amid Israel's ongoing campaign of Genocide in Gaza.

ISIS Claims Attack on Moscow Concert Hall After Ukraine Blames Putin

ISIS claimed responsibility for Friday's mass shooting in Moscow after Ukrainian intelligence said it believed Russian President Vladimir Putin was behind the assault that killed dozens and injured more than 100, according to Russian-state media reports.

Several gunmen opened fire at Crocus City Hall, a large music concert venue in the western portion of Moscow Oblast, Russian-state news agency RIA Novosti first reported.

At least 60 people died, the Associated Press (AP) reported. Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), as well as top Russian officials, called it a "terrorist attack."

ISIS took responsibility for the attack via its Amaq channel on Telegram. The militant organization, which the U.S. designates as a terrorist organization, said it was targeting Christians. AU.S. intelligence official said that Washington had learned of plans for an attack by an ISIS branch in Afghanistan and had communicated the information to Russian officials, according to AP.

However, Ukraine previously claimed that it believed Putin was responsible for the attack on his own people.

"The terrorist attack in Moscow was a planned and deliberate provocation by the Russian special services at the behest of Putin," the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) said in a Friday post to X, formerly Twitter. "Its purpose is to justify even harder strikes on Ukraine and total mobilization on Russia."

2024 Candidate Kennedy Questions Gaza Ceasefire, Biden Energy Subsidies

Independent U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr offered staunch support for Israel in a Reuters interview, calling it a "moral nation" that was justly responding to Hamas provocations with its attacks on Gaza and questioning the need for a six-week ceasefire backed by President Joe Biden.

War With Azerbaijan ‘By End Of Week’ Over Disputed Villages: Armenian PM

Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan told residents of the region that the villages must be returned to avoid Azerbaijan launching a war against Armenia

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said a war with Azerbaijan would begin "by the end of the week" if Armenia does not cede control of four disputed villages it has controlled since the war between the two countries in the 1990s.

Pashinyan was speaking during an 18 February meeting with residents at a church in the town of Voskepar in northern Armenia's Tavush region.

Russia's TASS news agency quoted Pashinyan in a video of the meeting as saying, "Now we can leave here. Let's go and tell [Azerbaijan] that no, we are not going to do anything. This means that at the end of the week, a war will begin."

However, the villages are important for Yerevan, as they lie in historically Christian areas and surround the main road north, connecting Armenia with Georgia. Azerbaijan, which is majority Muslim, also holds territory recognized internationally as belonging to Armenia.

Azerbaijan has demanded the return of the villages as a precondition for signing a peace deal with Armenia to end three decades of conflict.

The two sides have said they want to sign a formal peace treaty, but talks have stalled due to disagreements over the closed and heavily militarized 1000km border between them.

The two sides fought a war over the Nagorno–Karabakh region, known by Armenians as Artsakh, in 2020. The Christian enclave in Azerbaijan enjoyed autonomy since both countries became independent after the fall of the Soviet Union.

But in September of last year, Azerbaijan took direct control of Nagorno–Karabakh, forcing its roughly 100,000 Christian population to flee to Armenia in an act of ethnic cleansing.

Russia had traditionally protected Armenia and the Christian presence in Nagorno–Karabakh. However, Prime Minister Pashinyan has worked to move Armenia out of the Russian orbit and towards the US and EU after coming to power in a US-backed color revolution in 2018.

Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, a close ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has issued several threatening statements since his re-election in February of this year, raising fears of a new war.

Israel readies US arms wishlist as fears of western embargo mount

US officials continue to send Israel weapons while claiming to oppose Tel Aviv's bombing of civilians and use of starvation as a weapon in Gaza

US House Funding Bill Passes After Anti-Censorship, Anti-CBDC Measures Are Removed

Assurances to stop the funding of censorship and centrally-controlled currencies have failed.

A $1.2 trillion spending bill just rushed through the House of Representatives in the US has enabled allocation of funding to what would have been prohibited recipients/policies.

This includes earmarking money in support of censorship efforts, a US CBDC (central bank digital currency), and vaccine mandates, among other things.

In a series of posts on X, Representative Andrew Clyde singled out examples from the 1,000+ page document, which was published early on Thursday giving members of the House less than 24 hours to decide on how to vote.

Clyde was one of the Republicans who held no punches in slamming the bill as a result of backroom deals, saying that what he referred to as “the Swamp” (i.e., Washington) is about to bankroll some “catastrophic policies” with huge amounts of money.

The Department of State’s controversial Global Engagement Center (GEC) is one of those that benefit from the bill, as is to get funds to supposedly target only foreign countries and non-state actors engaged in “propaganda and misinformation.”

Newly Released Emails Show Biden White House Officials Met With and Communicated With Pro-Censorship Group

The Biden admin's use of CCDH data to push for censorship has previously been subject to scrutiny.

America First Legal (AFL) has published emails revealing more ties between the Biden White House and the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) – a controversial group originally based in the UK that’s believed to be involved in censorship pressure around the world.

The emails originate in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of State and refer to using US assets designed to counter domestic terrorism to work with CCDH, the non-profit has announced.

AFL – which positions itself as a counterpoint to ACLU – has filed several lawsuits concerning various government bodies’ involvement in collusion with private tech companies, aimed at promoting censorship.
