Mossad-linked Steve Mnuchin, the former United States Treasury Secretary, has unveiled his intentions to mobilise investors for the acquisition of the widely-used social media platform TikTok. Mnuchin is a close friend of former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen, whom he previously invited to join his investment fund.

This news comes after the passage of a bill by the House of Representatives on Wednesday aiming to prohibit the app unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, divests its US operations.

Israel Steals 16 Percent Of Gaza's Territory For 'Buffer Zone'

Using bulldozers and controlled demolitions, Israel has destroyed some 1,100 buildings in the zone so far

Israeli forces are destroying farmland and demolishing hundreds of homes as well as schools in Gaza to create an 800-meter buffer zone alongside the border with Israel, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on 16 March.

Palestinians would be barred from the zone, which Israeli officials claim is needed to allow Israelis to return to settlements surrounding Gaza, which were evacuated after the Hamas-led Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October.

Some 1,200 Israeli soldiers and civilians were killed during the Hamas attack, including many by Israeli forces themselves using helicopters, drones, and tanks. Israeli forces wished to prevent Hamas from taking captives back to Gaza.

The WSJ adds that plans for creating the buffer zone began in the first days of the war and would allow Israeli troops to see and stop anyone approaching the border.

Before 7 October, Israeli forces had already maintained a 350-meter buffer zone and often opened fire at Palestinians entering it to approach the border fence. Only farmers were allowed to enter the zone.

During protests in 2018, known as the “Great Return March,” Israeli snipers killed 214 Palestinians near the border fence.

The Israeli military declined to comment on the expanded buffer zone.

Shaul Arieli, a former Israeli colonel, said the creation of a permanent buffer zone inside Gaza would be illegal under international law because Israel would be occupying land beyond its recognized territory.

If the buffer zone is completed, Israel would effectively confiscate 16 percent of Gaza’s territory, according to geography professor Adi Ben Nun of Hebrew University.

Using bulldozers and controlled explosions, Israel has destroyed some 1,100 buildings, more than 40 percent of the estimated 2,800 in the proposed zone, Ben Nun says.

Israel is also creating a 320-meter-wide road that will effectively cut the Gaza Strip in two, dividing the north from the south. Israel forces have so far destroyed 150 buildings to build the road, Ben Nun added.

Doha Hunts For Whistleblowers Who Revealed Qatar's Funding Of ISIS

Top US officials have repeatedly acknowledged that Gulf states poured billions in funds and weapons for extremist groups fighting to overthrow the Syrian government

Qatar National Bank (QNB) and Qatar Charity (QC) are attempting to uncover the identities of confidential sources that supplied documents to lawyers representing the family of murdered US journalist Steven Sotloff, which allege the financial institutions – acting at the behest of Qatar’s royal family – wired hundreds of thousands of dollars to the ISIS judge who ordered Sotloff’s execution.

QNB and QC filed an application on 12 March in the US to obtain “limited discovery” of the law firm representing Sotloff’s family, specifically regarding the names of those who provided the bank records linking Doha to the murder.

In an email to Bloomberg, the general counsel for QNB confirmed the filing and said the bank “is the victim of an effort to tarnish its reputation” and plans to hold the individuals “to account to the fullest extent of the law.”

Sotloff and another US journalist, James Foley, were beheaded in 2014 by ISIS in Syria. The extremist militant group published videos of its executions online directed at US government officials.

In a May 2022 lawsuit filed in Florida, Sotloff’s family accused the Qatari institutions of wiring $800,000 to ISIS judge Fadhel al-Salim before he ordered Sotloff’s execution. The family also says Qatar “knowingly funded extremist insurgents” to destabilize the Syrian government and named both QNB and QC as co-conspirators in the murder.

Cow Hacked With Human DNA Produces Milk Containing High Levels of Human Insulin

Millions of people living with type 1 diabetes around the world don't have reliable access to insulin. Due to their bodies' inability to produce the hormone, they have to inject it to ensure that glucose can enter cells to produce energy.

But finding an affordable and reliable source of insulin has remained difficult in many parts of the world.

Now, a team of scientists from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil, have found a radical new way to produce the stuff: a gene-edited cow that produces human insulin in its milk.

"Mother Nature designed the mammary gland as a factory to make protein really, really efficiently," said University of Illinois animal sciences professor Matt Wheeler, lead author of a new paper published in the Biotechnology Journal, in a statement. "We can take advantage of that system to produce a protein that can help hundreds of millions of people worldwide."

As detailed in their paper, the researchers inserted a segment of human DNA coding for the precursor of active insulin called proinsulin into the cell nuclei of ten cow embryos.

Out of the ten embryos, one gene-edited calf was born in Brazil. Once matured, the cow was impregnated and stimulated to lactate using hormones.

To their surprise, the cow not only produced proinsulin, but even insulin in her milk.

Washington’s Renewed Urgency for TikTok Ban Is Due to War on Gaza

The bill’s author said the platform’s videos about the Israeli war sparked renewed interest in passing the legislation

The renewed urgency to pass a bill to ban TikTok emerged due to Washington’s concerns about how its users were interacting with content regarding the Israeli war in Gaza. Many of TikTok’s users share pro-Palestinian messages far more frequently than pro-Israeli viewpoints.

The public debate between members of the House of Representatives centers around Chinese ownership of TikTok and the Chinese government’s level of influence over the platform. However, renewed interest in passing the legislation only materialized in Washington because many of TikTok’s users share content with an overwhelmingly pro-Palestinian message.

Glenn Greenwald drew attention to the issue on his nightly show, System Update. He explained that the TikTok ban bill made no progress over four years because of the app’s popularity among young Americans. Greenwald went on to report that members of Congress and Washington insiders on both sides of the aisle were spurred to act immediately by the platform’s overwhelming pro-Palestinian content.

On Wednesday, a majority of Democrats and Republicans in the House voted in favor of the bill. President Joe Biden said he would sign it if it reached his desk. The administration helped Congress craft some of the language in the bill.

Jacob Helberg, a member of a congressional research and advisory panel called the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, spoke with the Wall Street Journal about Congress’s recent change of attitude. Officials from TikTok said the bill regained momentum so quickly that it was caught off guard.

“It was slow going until Oct. 7. The attack that day in Israel by Hamas and the ensuing conflict in Gaza became a turning point in the push against TikTok,” Helberg said, according to WSJ.

US Lawmakers Question White House Plan To Build Gaza Port

Palestinians fear the port will be used to forcibly expel Gaza's 2.3 million residents by sea, rather than to deliver aid

US Lawmakers from both major political parties are seeking more information from the White House regarding its plan to build a floating pier off the coast of Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid, Politico reported on 16 March. Questions include who will provide security for the US soldiers erecting the pier, who will distribute the aid, and whether building the pier is necessary.

“Starving civilians rushing the causeway. Israeli shells hitting American soldiers. Hamas terrorists firing on U.S. military boats. These are the potential scenarios U.S. officials are grappling with after President Joe Biden ordered the military to build a pier to help deliver aid to Gaza,” Politico wrote.

“I’m trying to get more details about the concept of operations,” Senator Chris Coons, a Democrat from Delaware, said. “In particular, one of my concerns is security for this operation. Because if the U.S. military is seen to be building and operating it, I think it puts it at greater risk.”

Congressman Mike Rogers, a Republican from Alabama, said it was unclear how the plan would work and whether it would make a difference. The Pentagon estimates it will take up to 60 days to build the port while starvation and famine are quickly spreading in Gaza.

“I’ve been briefed on what they’re doing, but the things nobody can answer are who’s going to provide the security, who’s going to provide the drivers, and who’s going to load and unload stuff?” Rogers said, adding “this is moving really fast and nobody can explain how it’s gonna work.”

According to Politico, the plan involves two parts: a floating pier 5 to 8 kilometers from the shore and a 550-meter floating causeway, which will be anchored to the beach.

Larger ships are expected to unload aid onto the pier. Smaller US boats will then transport the aid to the causeway, where it will be moved to trucks that will distribute it into Gaza.

World Bank and Verizon Chiefs Say Digital ID Part of “Social Contract” Between Government and Citizens

The list of supporters and promoters of the implementation of digital IDs, strongly criticized by privacy and security advocates, quite unsurprisingly includes the likes of the World Bank and Verizon.

What is interesting is the way they are explaining the push, and also how they propose to make mass, worldwide adoption of digital IDs a reality. There’s also a corporate-speak cliche-in-the-making for all this: “digital transformation journey.”

The pairing that is the World Bank and Verizon makes sense because in order to have people’s identities and financial assets centralized in the way proposed by various digital ID schemes, they need to first have access to the internet.

A recent meeting in Washington DC, dubbed the Global Digital Summit, saw the two respective financial and telecommunications heavy-hitters “agree” that governments must make digital IDs a component of what’s known as the social contract with citizens.

What this would mean is that citizens willingly defer to the authorities as they accept digital IDs, and do this supposedly to their own advantage.

World Bank Group President Ajay Banga seemed particularly keen on expanding digital ID adoption “top-down,” by getting as many governments as possible on side, who would then, thanks to the “social contract” idea, impose it on citizens – rather than wait for citizens to, if ever, warm up to the scheme.

Netanyahu Brands Us Senator's Call For Election In Israel 'Inappropriate' And Amounted To Interfering in Israel's Democracy

Israeli prime minister accuses Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of interfering in Israeli democracy

Schumer on Thursday had called for Netanyahu's government to be unseated, saying new leadership was needed in the country.

"As a lifelong supporter of Israel, it has become clear to me [that] the Netanyahu coalition no longer fits the needs of Israel after October 7," he said, referring to the Hamas attack in southern Israel that resulted in the deaths of almost 1,200 people.

"The world has changed radically since then, and the Israeli people are being stifled right now by a governing vision that is stuck in the past."

On Sunday, Netanyahu hit back at Schumer, saying his comments were "totally inappropriate" and amounted to an interference in Israeli democracy.

"I think what he said is totally inappropriate. It's inappropriate to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected leadership there," Netanyahu said in an interview on CNN.

Political leaders in the US have reportedly been increasingly frustrated with Netanyahu's leadership in Israel, particularly his insistence on pushing ahead with a planned assault on Rafah in Gaza [the last standing official "safe zone"], which currently hosts 1.5 million mostly displaced Palestinians sheltering near the Egyptian border.

Netanyahu reiterated his plans to attack the city on Sunday, vowing to uproot what he says are Hamas operatives.

Israel's assault on Gaza has killed at least 31,645 people in Gaza, most of them women and children...

Netanyahu dismissed growing international pressure on Sunday, accusing them of forgetting the deaths on 7 October.

Reuters Exclusive: Musk's Spacex Is Building Spy Satellite Network For US Intelligence Agency, Sources Say

SpaceX is building a network of hundreds of spy satellites under a classified contract with a U.S. intelligence agency, five sources familiar with the program said, demonstrating deepening ties between billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's space company and national security agencies.

The network is being built by SpaceX's Starshield business unit under a $1.8 billion contract signed in 2021 with the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), an intelligence agency that manages spy satellites, the sources said.

The plans show the extent of SpaceX's involvement in U.S. intelligence and military projects and illustrate a deeper Pentagon investment into vast, low-Earth orbiting satellite systems aimed at supporting ground forces.

If successful, the sources said the program would significantly advance the ability of the U.S. government and military to quickly spot potential targets almost anywhere on the globe.

The Wall Street Journal reported in February the existence of a $1.8 billion classified Starshield contract with an unknown intelligence agency without detailing the purposes of the program.

Reuters reporting discloses for the first time that the SpaceX contract is for a powerful new spy system with hundreds of satellites bearing Earth-imaging capabilities that can operate as a swarm in low orbits, and that the spy agency that Musk's company is working with is the NRO...

...The satellites can track targets on the ground and share that data with U.S. intelligence and military officials, the sources said. In principle, that would enable the U.S. government to quickly capture continuous imagery of activities on the ground nearly anywhere on the globe, aiding intelligence and military operations, they added.

Roughly a dozen prototypes have been launched since 2020, among other satellites on SpaceX's Falcon 9 rockets, three of the sources said.

A U.S. government database of objects in orbit shows several SpaceX missions having deployed satellites that neither the company nor the government have ever acknowledged. Two sources confirmed those to be prototypes for the Starshield network.

All the sources asked to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to discuss the U.S. government program.

The Pentagon is already a big SpaceX customer, using its Falcon 9 rockets to launch military payloads into space. Starshield's first prototype satellite, launched in 2020, was part of a separate, roughly $200 million contract that helped position SpaceX for the subsequent $1.8 billion award, one of the sources said.

The planned Starshield network is separate from Starlink, SpaceX's growing commercial broadband constellation that has about 5,500 satellites in space to provide near-global internet to consumers, companies and government agencies...

"No one can hide," one of the sources said of the system’s potential capability, when describing the network's reach.

...The NRO includes personnel from the U.S. Space Force and CIA and provides classified satellite imagery for the Pentagon and other intelligence agencies.

Niger Ends Military Relationship With US, Says US Presence No Longer Justified

The US is in talks to establish a new drone base elsewhere in West Africa

Niger announced on Saturday that it was suspending military cooperation with the US and that the US presence in the country was no longer justified, signaling Washington will have to withdraw its troops.

Col. Maj. Amadou Abdramane, spokesman for the military-led government that’s been in power since last year’s coup, made the announcement after a US delegation visited Niger. He said the US officials did not show respect for Niger’s sovereignty.

“Niger regrets the intention of the American delegation to deny the sovereign Nigerien people the right to choose their partners and types of partnerships capable of truly helping them fight against terrorism,” Abdramane said.

The US has a major drone base in Niger, known as Air Base 201, which it uses as a hub for operations in West Africa. Before former President Mahamoud Bazoum was taken out of power last July, the US had about 1,100 troops in Niger. As of December, the US has 648 troops stationed in the country.

The US formally declared the ouster of Bazoum a coup, which requires the suspension of aid, but was looking for ways to cooperate with the junta to maintain its military presence. However, there are signs the US was preparing for the possibility of getting kicked out. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year that the US was in talks with other West African states to base drones on their territory, including Benin, the Ivory Coast, and Ghana.

Warden Is Ousted As FBI Raids California Women’s Prison Known As The ‘Rape Club’

FBI agents raided a federal women’s prison in California this week so plagued by sexual abuse that it was known among inmates and workers as the “rape club.”

The action coincided with the ouster of the new warden from the federal correctional institution in Dublin. Warden Art Dulgov — just a few months into his tenure — and three other top managers were removed from their positions Monday by the federal Bureau of Prisons. Dulgov was the third new leader of the low-security prison since Warden Ray T. Garcia, who, along with more than half a dozen employees, was convicted of sexually assaulting multiple women serving time there.

Dulgov and staff are accused of retaliating against an inmate who testified in January in a class-action lawsuit that alleges “horrific abuse and exploitation” at the prison, with rampant sexual assault of incarcerated persons, according to a court filing.

...Legal experts say what has happened at the federal prison is indicative of the worst aspects of institutions with abusers in their midst.

“There is no accountability with some public entities, and the sexual abuse keeps festering and festering until it blows up,” said attorney David Ring, who has handled high-profile sexual assault litigation involving schools, facilities and Hollywood studios.

“They tend to shuffle the offenders,” he said. “Officials in prisons can be the worst because they are so jaded that all the complaints fall on deaf ears about the guards.”

.. According to the filing in the class-action suit, the warden transferred an inmate who was a witness in a lawsuit against the prison, violating a judge’s court order that witnesses not be moved without the court’s approval.

On Monday, Nancy T. McKinney, a top regional Bureau of Prisons supervisor, was appointed interim warden of Dublin. She is the fourth person to hold the office since Garcia was removed.

Bureau officials acknowledged the leadership change, saying, “Recent developments have necessitated new executive employees be installed” at the prison...

The raid comes as the number of women who have come forward in lawsuits against guards and staff alleging sexual abuse and retaliation has reached 63. That number, according to attorneys, is expected to surpass 100.

UNICEF Says Israel Has Killed Over 13,000 Children in Gaza

The agency says many are suffering from malnutrition and do not 'even have the energy to cry'

The UN’s child relief agency said on Sunday that over 13,000 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip and that many more could be dead under the rubble.

“Thousands more have been injured, or we can’t even determine where they are. They may be stuck under rubble,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell, according to Reuters. “We haven’t seen that rate of death among children in almost any other conflict in the world.”

Gaza’s Health Ministry has said over 31,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and has consistently stated that around 70% of the casualties are women and children.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin previously said over 25,000 women and children had been killed in Gaza, but the Pentagon walked his comment back, claiming he was talking about all Palestinians killed.

Russel said that she visited a hospital ward where children were suffering from severe malnutrition and said the place was quiet because “the children, the babies … don’t even have the energy to cry.”

Separately, the UN’s Palestinian relief agency, UNRWA, said one in three children under the age of two in Gaza is now acutely malnourished. “Children’s malnutrition is spreading fast and reaching unprecedented levels in Gaza,” UNRWA said. Children have already started to starve to death in Gaza, with dozens of malnutrition deaths already reported.

Despite the horrific situation and Israel’s continued restrictions on aid, the US is still providing unconditional military aid to support the slaughter and starvation campaign against the Palestinians in Gaza.
