Trump Orders To 'Cut Off All Trade' With Spain, Calls Madrid A 'Wasted Cause'

Spain dismissed the threats, saying EU trade rules prevent a country from being singled out

US President Donald Trump ordered Washington to cut off all trade and business with Spain, citing Madrid's lack of commitment to the increased military budget mandated by the US during the NATO Summit in Ankara on 8 July.

“Spain is a wasted cause. We don't want to do any trade business with Spain anymore,” Trump declared, adding, “I'd like you to cut it off. Spain is a terrible partner in NATO. They don't participate. They don't pay. I don't want anything to do with Spain.”

“Cut off all trade with Spain, please, including visits. Okay?” Trump said, addressing a person off camera, “We don't want anything to do. Watch them. Watch them come running back. Oh, they'll come running back.”

Trump then ordered Spain to be cut off from all trade “immediately. Don't even talk to them. They're hopeless, bad people.”

In response to Trump's threats, Spain dismissed the US president's call to “cut off all trade” with the Prime Minister's Office saying Madrid continues to enjoy “a magnificent social, cultural and economic relationship” with Washington that benefits both sides.

I was on the ground with him that day, and my body camera captured us being detained by both settlers and Israeli soldiers. The IDF did not disperse the violent settlers, as they claim.

They explicitly sided with them. As you can see in the video, the soldiers themselves blocked the road. I walked over to the soldiers and told them that the police had instructed them to remove the settlers, and that a Member of Congress was present. They refused to help. And there is more.

❗️UAE-based DP World advances plans for new Fujairah port to bypass Strait of Hormuz

Dubai-based port operator DP World is moving to construct a new port and container terminal on the United Arab Emirates’ east coast, a strategic maneuver aimed at achieving "zero dependency" on the Strait of Hormuz. The planned development in Fujairah is part of a broader UAE initiative to secure its supply chain as the waterway remains the focal point of a volatile standoff between the US and Iran.

According to The Financial Times, the project would involve the construction of a multipurpose port in the Fujairah coastal area and an additional terminal within the existing harbor. This expansion is intended to provide a critical alternative to Dubai’s Jebel Ali port, which is geographically trapped inside the Persian Gulf and vulnerable to the ongoing maritime blockade.

This move aligns with the UAE’s accelerating efforts to overhaul its domestic infrastructure. In addition to the port developments, the nation is fast-tracking the West–East Pipeline project to double its crude oil export capacity through Fujairah by 2027, effectively allowing energy shipments to reach the Gulf of Oman without traversing the strait.

❗️Pen America president resigns over erasure of Palestinians

Dinaw Mengestu, president of Pen America, resigned after seven months in the role, accusing the US literary institution of "ongoing failure to defend free expression fairly and equitably" through work that "supports suppression through bigotry and indifference."

His exit followed a 9 July Pen report on the emotional toll borne by Israeli and Jewish-American writers during Israel's nearly three-year genocide in Gaza.

Mengestu said the report was emblematic of the organization's unequal treatment, devoting its attention to Israeli and Jewish-American grievances while "the Palestinian experience is diminished... almost to the point of erasure."

Mengestu said Pen had long characterized the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement as an "assault on the identity of Jewish students.”

"What PEN America fails to understand is that a boycott is a form of dialogue," he said, maintaining that BDS is protected free speech under the US Constitution.
