Attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea continue to escalate and risk sparking a regional conflict as President Biden's Operation Prosperity Guardian to shield ships from Iran-backed Houthi attacks miserably fails. The latest incident involves a commodity ship hit by at least one anti-ship ballistic missile in the Gulf of Aden, close to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, marking the first fatality of crew members of the multi-month Red Sea crisis.
"Two killed and six injured in a Houthi missile strikes on the MV True Confidence, a Liberian-owned vessel, in the Red Sea today, per two US officials," Politico's Pentagon reporter Lara Seligman posted on X.
Seligman said, "These are the first fatalities of the Houthi campaign against international shipping since November."
A US Department of Defense source told the journalist that "no Americans were on board" the vessel at the time of the incident.
"The 23 crew members were forced to abandon the ship, which was damaged but has not sunk yet," she said.
Seligman added: "Coalition warships have responded and are assessing the situation," including an "American guided-missile cruiser."
Maritime tracking data via Bloomberg shows True Confidence abruptly turned before the Bab al-Mandab Strait on Tuesday, around 1900 local time. There is reason to believe the missile attack was around that time.

NYCB’s share price rose by some 10% in late trading after it was announced that Mnuchin would take a seat on the bank’s board of directors.
Mnuchin’s Liberty Strategic Capital and Ken Griffin’s Citadel Securities are among the hedge funds and private equity firms that are taking part in the capital investment, according to a press release issued by the bank.
Trading in the bank’s stock was suspended earlier on Wednesday afternoon after the share price plummeted to $1.86 – down from Tuesday’s close of $3.22.
Since the start of the year, the bank’s stock price has fallen by a whopping 82% as concerns abound over its commercial real estate portfolio as well as its leadership structure and internal controls.
Last month, NYCB posted unexpected commercial real estate loan losses and slashed its dividend, causing its stock price to sink to a nearly 27-year low.

British Special Forces Face Murder Charges Over Syria War Crimes
UK occupation troops were recently accused of summarily executing dozens of civilians in Afghanistan during a 10-year period
Five active members of the Special Air Service (SAS) have been arrested in the UK for alleged war crimes committed during illegal British operations in Syria in 2022.
The unnamed suspects were arrested by the British military police over the murder of a “suspected militant,” as authorities say the soldiers used “excessive force” and should have arrested the suspect instead of shooting him dead, the Daily Mail reported.
While the UK Ministry of Defense has not commented on the case, a statement provided to The Independent reads: "We hold our personnel to the highest standards, and any allegations of wrongdoing are taken seriously. Where appropriate, any criminal allegations are referred to the service police for investigation."
Per the report, a “primed suicide vest” was found near the murdered Syrian man. However, he was not wearing it at the time of his death. According to the detained SAS soldiers, the unnamed suspect “posed a threat and intended to carry out a suicide attack.”
The SAS has been actively deployed in Syria for the past decade in support of the US-led war and occupation in the country.
The murder probe comes less than a year after it was revealed that SAS soldiers summarily executed at least 80 civilians in Afghanistan during raids carried out in the country between 2010 and 2013.
One of the soldiers who operated in Afghanistan is believed to have “personally killed” 35 Afghans as part of an alleged policy to terminate “all fighting-age males ... regardless of the threat they posed” during home raids.
The SAS conducted regular night raids on family compounds in search of Taliban fighters during London's military operations in Helmand province, which ended in 2014. These raids included executing civilian men and planting weapons next to their bodies to justify the killings.

Russia Mulls Putting Nuclear Power Plant on Moon
Russia is considering a nuclear power plant installation on the moon starting between 2033 and 2035, according to the head of Russia’s space agency Roscosmos.
Russia—along with China—is considering the idea of placing a nuclear power plant on the moon over the next decade or so, and the two countries have been working together on a lunar program for nuclear space energy.
“Today we are seriously considering a project—somewhere at the turn of 2033-2035—to deliver and install a power unit on the lunar surface together with our Chinese colleagues,” Yuri Borisov, head of Roscosmos said on Tuesday.
According to Borisov, solar panels would provide an insufficient amount of electricity to power future lunar settlements. Nuclear power, on the other hand, would be sufficient.
Russia also has plans to build a nuclear-powered cargo spaceship—most of which had already been mapped out, although the one remaining question in the project was how to cool the nuclear reactor.
The cargo spacecraft would be able to transport large cargoes from one orbit to another, Borisov said.
Moscow will need to launch additional lunar missions first, before fully exploring the idea of a Russian/China crewed mission or a lunar base.
In February, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke out against the United States, who accused Moscow of planning to put nuclear weapons in space.

The 62-year-old, from Magdeburg, Germany, whom doctors described as “hypervaccinated”, said he had had the large number of vaccines for “private reasons”, according to the researchers from University of Erlangen-Nuremberg who examined him.
According to the news magazine Spiegel, the man’s vaccine spree had sparked a criminal investigation against him for suspected fraud, after suspicions he had run a scam to sell the vaccine certificates to people who did not want to get the jab.
The initial reports relating to the study, which gave scant information, had sparked widespread speculation, with suggestions that the man was suffering from paranoid hypochondria, that he possibly had a needle fixation, or he was a doctor who might have been administering vaccines to patients himself. There were also questions as to whether he had financed the jabs out of his own pocket, or received medical authorisation to receive them.
Later reports confirmed the criminal investigation against the man, who was accused of getting so many doses in order to be able to collect the stamped and signed vaccination cards, which could then be forged and sold on to people who did not want to be vaccinated and so faced extensive restrictions at the height of the pandemic.
A public prosecutor in Magdeburg had opened an investigation into the fraud allegations but no criminal charges were actually filed, authorities confirmed to the researchers.
The academics contacted the man after reading about him in a newspaper report. He accepted their request to study his body’s response to the multiple jabs.

Israeli War Chief Warns Of ‘Dangerous Escalation’ In Lebanon
Warplanes violently targeted several southern Lebanese towns during talks between the Israeli war minister and US envoy Amos Hochstein
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant held talks with senior White House Adviser Amos Hochstein on 5 March, warning him that Israel is getting closer to expanding attacks on Lebanon.
The meeting comes a day after Hochstein visited Lebanon and held talks with several officials.
“We are committed to the diplomatic process. However, Hezbollah’s aggression is bringing us closer to a critical point in the decision-making regarding our military activities in Lebanon,” the war minister told Hochstein at the ministry’s headquarters in Tel Aviv.
Hezbollah is “dragging the parties to a dangerous escalation,” Gallant added.
The two also discussed Hezbollah’s daily operations against Israeli sites, as well as US-sponsored efforts to pressure Lebanon and the Lebanese resistance into withdrawing from the border region.
As the talks were going on, Israeli warplanes bombarded the southern Lebanese towns of Majdal Zoun, Zebqin, Shamaa, Shiaytiyeh, Jbeil al-Butum, Aita al-Shaab, and Al-Wazzani.
Hezbollah targeted several Israeli military sites and struck two Israeli Merkava tanks that afternoon.
The Lebanese resistance began launching daily operations against Israel on 8 October in solidarity with Gaza. Israeli airstrikes have since continuously and indiscriminately bombarded the south of Lebanon.
Washington has been pushing a de-escalation proposal on Lebanon since the start of February. The leading demand of the western initiative is an extensive withdrawal of Hezbollah from the border region.
The proposal does not include any Israeli concessions to Lebanon, such as a withdrawal from areas that have been illegally occupied for decades.

We need our government health agencies to take a serious look at this condition and stop stigmatizing doctors and patients who report these findings so we can get people the help they need.
We are critical care physicians with the FLCCC Alliance (the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance) who have treated COVID patients throughout the pandemic. One of us recently opened a private practice focused on patients with long COVID.
In two years, the practice has evaluated and treated over 1,000 individuals. Approximately 70% of these patients said their reported symptoms occurred in the minutes, hours, days and weeks after COVID vaccination, as opposed to after COVID infection. This could be tied to a new condition that’s flown under the radar until recently.
This syndrome, dubbed “long vax,” is just starting to make its way into the medical literature.

House COVID Panel Subpoenas Former NY Gov. Cuomo Over Nursing Home Deaths
🇺🇸@COVID19Up: The House committee investigating the coronavirus pandemic response issued a subpoena Tuesday (March 5) for former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) over his alleged failure to cooperate with a probe into the state’s COVID-19 nursing home policies.
The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic is demanding Cuomo appear for a closed-door deposition on May 24. Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), the subcommittee’s chairman, has previously requested interviews with former Cuomo administration officials, including former top aide Melissa DeRosa.
Wenstrup in a statement accused the former governor of stonewalling the investigation and said the panel had been met with months and months of “repeated and unjustified delays.”
The panel has been investigating COVID-19 nursing home policy decisions made by Cuomo and the Democratic leaders of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Specifically, the panel is looking into Cuomo’s “must admit” order, which said nursing homes could not turn away patients who tested positive for COVID-19. The facilities were also prohibited from requiring hospitalized residents to be tested for the virus before their admission or readmission in nursing homes.
The virus decimated New York’s nursing homes, killing more than 15,000 people.

Researchers from Charles Darwin University (CDU) and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) have discovered a cannabis extract has a "deadly" effect on melanoma cells in a laboratory setting.
Biotechnologist and co-author of the study Nazim Nassar said the in-vitro anti-cancer effects of a specific extract from Cannabis sativa — called PHEC-66 — forced melanoma cells into a "programmed cell death" known as apoptosis.
"We know today how this extract attaches to the receptor on the cell surface, and changes the messages to the inside of the cell to manipulate the normal growth … to force it to go into [a] death progress," he said.
According to the study — published in Cells journal – there are limited pharmacological treatment options for advanced melanomas, with fewer than 15 per cent of patients surviving beyond three years.
Researchers found while melanoma accounted for about 6 per cent of skin cancers, it was the cause of more than 80 per cent of related skin cancer deaths.

2017 Flashback — AP: UN Child Sex Ring Left Victims But No Arrests
In the ruins of a tropical hideaway where jetsetters once sipped rum under the Caribbean sun, the abandoned children tried to make a life for themselves. They begged and scavenged for food, but they never could scrape together enough to beat back the hunger, until the U.N. peacekeepers moved in a few blocks away.
The men who came from a far-away place and spoke a strange language offered the Haitian children cookies and other snacks. Sometimes they gave them a few dollars. But the price was high: The Sri Lankan peacekeepers wanted sex from girls and boys as young as 12.
“I did not even have breasts,” said a girl, known as V01 — Victim No. 1. She told U.N. investigators that over the next three years, from ages 12 to 15, she had sex with nearly 50 peacekeepers, including a “Commandant” who gave her 75 cents.
Justice for victims like V01 is rare. An Associated Press investigation of U.N. missions during the past 12 years found nearly 2,000 allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation by peacekeepers and other personnel around the world — signaling the crisis is much larger than previously known. More than 300 of the allegations involved children, the AP found, but only a fraction of the alleged perpetrators served jail time.
....The AP interviewed alleged victims, current and former U.N. officials and investigators and sought answers from 23 countries on the number of peacekeepers who faced such allegations and, what if anything, was done to investigate. With rare exceptions, few nations responded to repeated requests, while the names of those found guilty are kept confidential, making accountability impossible to determine.
Without agreement for widespread reform and accountability from the U.N.'s member states, solutions remain elusive.
Here in Haiti, at least 134 Sri Lankan peacekeepers exploited nine children in a sex ring from 2004 to 2007, according to an internal U.N. report obtained by the AP. In the wake of the report, 114 peacekeepers were sent home. None was ever imprisoned.

“I did not even have breasts,” said a girl, known as V01 — Victim No. 1. She told U.N. investigators that over the next three years, from ages 12 to 15, she had sex with nearly 50 peacekeepers, including a “Commandant” who gave her 75 cents.
Justice for victims like V01 is rare. An Associated Press investigation of U.N. missions during the past 12 years found nearly 2,000 allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation by peacekeepers and other personnel around the world — signaling the crisis is much larger than previously known. More than 300 of the allegations involved children, the AP found, but only a fraction of the alleged perpetrators served jail time.
....The AP interviewed alleged victims, current and former U.N. officials and investigators and sought answers from 23 countries on the number of peacekeepers who faced such allegations and, what if anything, was done to investigate. With rare exceptions, few nations responded to repeated requests, while the names of those found guilty are kept confidential, making accountability impossible to determine.
Without agreement for widespread reform and accountability from the U.N.'s member states, solutions remain elusive.
Here in Haiti, at least 134 Sri Lankan peacekeepers exploited nine children in a sex ring from 2004 to 2007, according to an internal U.N. report obtained by the AP. In the wake of the report, 114 peacekeepers were sent home. None was ever imprisoned.

U.N. peacekeepers have been accused of sexually assaulting people in countries where they were deployed _ and an Associated Press investigation suggests the crisis is much larger than was previously known.

As war criminals like Obama lived in their lavish oceanside homes and Trump campaigned for another term as president, Daniel Hale was rotting in a cage. He was charged with violating the Espionage Act of 1917. The same 'catch all' archaic law that was also used to charge Chelsea Manning, Edward Snowden and Reality Winner.
In a interview before his incarceration Hale said: “You have to kill part of your conscience to do your job.”
He's right. There are far too many mindless order followers who will turn a human life into a fine red mist for a paycheck and free pancakes at IHOP. There are not enough individuals with integrity within the US government who stand up, speak out and say "NO!" "I will not participate in your war machine." That's why we must honor and praise people like Daniel Hale who do.
