Israeli Media, Officials Rattled By 'Insufficient Response' To Hezbollah's FPV Drones

The drones rely on fiber-optic cables, making them immune to electronic jamming

Hezbollah’s deadly FPV drones are a “major problem” which Israel “should have seen coming,” the Times of Israel reporter Lazar Berman wrote in an article on 4 May.

“Israel has a major problem on its hands in Lebanon. Hezbollah has made an unmistakable leap in its drone capabilities and tactics in recent weeks, and is using explosive-laden unmanned aerial vehicles to deadly effect against troops in southern Lebanon. Whatever countermeasures that Israel has are clearly insufficient,” Berman wrote.

“Israel should have seen the threat coming … [The army] is now scrambling to find technological and tactical solutions to the growing Hezbollah UAV threat,” he added.

Berman notes that until “effective countermeasures are developed and deployed, troops in southern Lebanon will find themselves exposed and hounded by Hezbollah’s FPV attack drones.”

The report added that “not only are troops at risk; so is Israel’s entire buffer zone approach in Lebanon.”

Global Telecom Networks 'hijacked' By Israeli Firms For Mass Surveillance Operation: Report

Legacy and next generation communications infrastructure linked to Israel is being exploited to track mobile users' locations worldwide

Israeli telecommunication firms were used to track mobile phone users more than 15,000 times in more than 10 countries over the past three years, Haaretz reported on 4 May.

The Israeli newspaper cited an investigation by Citizen Lab, a digital research group, that described two separate operations to track the locations of mobile phone users. The operations were likely run by commercial firms selling surveillance technologies to governments around the world.

Citizen Lab wrote that, “The findings expose how suspected commercial surveillance vendors (CSVs) exploit the global telecom interconnect ecosystem, leverage private operator networks, and conduct covert location tracking operations that can persist undetected for years.”

The first operation used geolocation technology to track targets using networks belonging to two Israeli companies, 019Mobile and Partner Communications.

Researchers identified more than 500 location-tracking attempts between November 2022 and 2025 across Thailand, South Africa, Norway, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and other African countries using the two companies' networks.

'Killing Like We Haven't Since 1967': Top Israeli General Brags About Shooting Palestinians In Occupied West Bank

General Avi Bluth bragged that his forces shoot at Palestinian stone throwers and workers seeking to cross the separation barrier to enter Israel, while refusing to do the same against Jewish settlers

The Israeli military is killing Palestinians in the occupied West Bank “like we haven't killed since 1967,” including deliberately firing live ammunition at Palestinians trying to cross to Israel to find work and at Palestinian stone throwers, while refusing to do the same against Jewish settlers, Haaretz reported on 4 May.

The Israeli army's top commander in the occupied West Bank, Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth recently bragged about killing such large numbers of Palestinians while speaking during a closed forum.

The general “expressed pride” that he had relaxed the rules of engagement for firing at Palestinians from the occupied West Bank trying to cross the massive barrier, or separation wall, to enter Israel in search of work.

Bluth said the current rules of engagement permit soldiers to shoot Palestinians at or below the knee, creating a deterrent effect which he calls a “barrier consciousness.”

“A plasterer in [the West Bank city of] Ramallah earns 1,500 shekels ($510) a month and a plasterer in [the Israeli town of] Ramle earns 7,000 shekels a month, so of course he's willing to risk being shot in the knee or a week of detention, if he succeeded in crossing over and can work in a bakery,” Bluth explained.

The FCC Wants Your ID Before You Get A Phone Number

The FCC just proposed fixing your robocall problem by building the kind of phone-user registry that privacy advocates have spent decades trying to prevent.

The era of the anonymous phone number could be ending. On April 30, the Federal Communications Commission unanimously approved a proposal requiring telecom providers to verify customers’ identities before activating service.

Government-issued ID, physical address, legal name, and existing phone numbers would all be included. The stated goal is stopping robocalls. The result would be an identity-verification regime covering one of the last semi-anonymous communication tools available to ordinary Americans.

The proposal applies to nearly every voice provider in the country, from traditional carriers and mobile operators to VoIP services. The FCC is seeking public comment on specifics, but the direction is clear.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr framed it around negligent carriers. “As we have continued to investigate the problem of illegal robocalls over the last year, it has become clear that some originating providers are not doing enough to vet their customers, allowing bad actors to infiltrate our U.S. phone networks,” he said. Some providers, he added, “do the bare minimum (or worse) and have become complicit in illegal robocalling schemes.”

That language targets telecom companies and the surveillance targets everyone else.

The framework borrows from banking’s anti-money-laundering rules. The FCC is also asking whether carriers should retain identity documentation for at least four years after a customer leaves and whether they should check customers against law enforcement watchlists. Penalties would shift to a per-call basis, meaning fines of $1,000 to $15,000 for every illegal call a poorly verified customer places.

The real privacy stakes sit in the proposal’s section on prepaid service. Right now, you can pay cash for a prepaid phone and SIM card without showing identification. Journalists use prepaid phones to protect sources, domestic violence survivors use them to avoid being traced, and whistleblowers, activists, or anyone with a reason to separate phone activity from legal identity relies on this.

‘Highly Protected’: OPCW Confirms it Buried Critical Evidence in Syria Chemical Weapons Probe — Aaron Mate

The OPCW finally acknowledges concealing the assessment of German military toxicologists who ruled out chlorine gas as the cause of dozens of deaths in the alleged Douma chemical attack of April 2018.

For the first time in a prolonged cover-up scandal, the world’s top chemical watchdog has acknowledged censoring a finding that undermined allegations of a toxic gas attack by the former Syrian government.

According to previously leaked documents, expert German military toxicologists consulted by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) ruled out chlorine gas as the cause of death of dozens of victims in an alleged chemical attack in the Syrian town of Douma in April 2018. The experts even raised the possibility that the incident was a false flag. The OPCW suppressed this finding and released a final report asserting that chlorine gas was likely used. The OPCW’s conclusion aligned with the claims of the US, UK, and France, who bombed Syria in April 2018 over what they alleged was a Syrian government chemical attack in Douma.

After years of stonewalling, the OPCW has admitted that the Germans’ input, along with the fact that they were even consulted, was concealed.

The concession came during a legal battle with Dr. Brendan Whelan, a veteran OPCW inspector and senior member of the team that deployed to Syria for the Douma mission. Whelan and another Douma team member, Ian Henderson, raised concerns about the manipulation of the investigation’s findings.

After their complaints became public, the OPCW leadership publicly disparaged the two dissenting inspectors and penalized them for alleged breaches of confidentiality. Whelan successfully challenged his censure before the Geneva-based Tribunal of the International Labour Organisation (ILOAT), which recently awarded him damages and instructed the OPCW to withdraw its impugned decision.

Douma Deception: OPCW Inspector Is Vindicated

OPCW investigator Brendan Whelan's ruling reopens the evidentiary trail behind one of the west’s most consequential war narratives on Syria.

The UN chemical weapons watchdog has been ordered to pay moral and legal compensation to one of its former investigators who was censured and smeared by the organization for challenging its fabricated claim that the Syrian government carried out a chemical attack against its own civilians in Douma in April 2018.

On 1 May, former Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) investigator Brendan Whelan announced that an independent arbitration body, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), had ruled in his favor and ordered the OPCW to pay damages and legal costs.

Beyond vindicating Whelan, the arbitration case highlights the OPCW leadership's effort to manipulate its own report to maintain the false narrative that the former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was behind a series of chemical attacks during the 14-year US and Israeli-backed dirty war that sought to topple his government and install an Al-Qaeda-linked militant leader in his place.

Douma and the evidence that did not fit

On 7 April 2018, video footage began circulating online showing bodies of victims of an apparent chemical attack in the town of Douma in the Damascus countryside.
