Trump Defends Iran War In Series Of Posts On Truth Social

The president started by saying Israel 'never talked me into the war'

President Trump on Monday issued a series of posts on his Truth Social account defending his war with Iran and a potential diplomatic deal that he may reach with Tehran, though the state of the negotiations remains unclear.

The president started with a post where he said that the state of Israel didn’t talk him into launching the war, an apparent response to the reports and commentary about how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu played a major role in convincing Trump to launch the war.

Earlier this month, The New York Times reported that Trump launched the war after being briefed at the White House by Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, who made a series of claims that didn’t come true, including that Iran was ripe for regime change. But the report said that Trump was very hawkish on the issue and closely aligned with Netanyahu for many months, suggesting the US president didn’t need much convincing.

“Israel never talked me into the war with Iran, the results of Oct. 7th, added to my lifelong opinion that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, did,” Trump said in his post. While he and Vice President JD Vance have framed the war as about preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb, there was no evidence either before the current war or the June 2025 war that Tehran was attempting to develop one.

Trump continued, “I watch and read the FAKE NEWS Pundits and Polls in total disbelief. 90% of what they say are lies and made up stories, and the polls are rigged, much as the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged. Just like the results in Venezuela, which the media doesn’t like talking about, the results in Iran will be amazing – And if Iran’s new leaders (Regime Change!) are smart, Iran can have a great and prosperous future!”

Israel Claims Ownership Of Lebanese Gas Field After Establishing Gaza-Style ‘Yellow Line’ Near Border

Tel Aviv has openly vowed to destroy all Lebanese border villages and prevent their residents from returning

Israel has declared a large swath of the southern Lebanese border area a “Forward Defense Zone,” similar to the ‘Yellow Line’ perimeter used by Tel Aviv to seize additional territory in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military’s Arabic spokesman Avichay Adraee, on 19 April, published a map of the area, where he said troops are operating to destroy “Hezbollah-affiliated infrastructure.”

The map covers areas beyond the southern Lebanese coast and into the ocean, including the Qana gas field, which belongs to Lebanon according to the maritime border agreement reached indirectly between Beirut and Tel Aviv in 2022.

“Five military brigades are operating alongside Navy forces simultaneously south of the forward defense line in southern Lebanon to destroy Hezbollah-affiliated infrastructure in the area and prevent a direct threat to the northern towns,” Adraee said.

The Israeli military initially referred to the 10-kilometer area as a ‘Yellow Line.’

According to the Israeli army, the 10-kilometer zone includes 55 towns and villages in southern Lebanon.

However, Lebanese researcher Ahmad Baydoun revealed that the area “covers approximately 70 Lebanese villages – more than the 55 villages reported by Israeli media,” adding that the zone includes towns “known to still be inhabited: the Christian villages of Rmeish, Debl, and Ain Ebel, and the Sunni town of Shebaa.”

Spain To Formally Call On EU To Suspend Association Agreement With Israel

Pedro Sanchez accused the Israeli government of ‘violating the principles and values of the EU,’ stressing that Tel Aviv ‘cannot be our partner’

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced on 19 April that his government will formally propose that the EU suspend its Association Agreement with Israel.

“A government that violates international law and, therefore, the principles and values of the EU cannot be our partner,” Sanchez said, speaking at a PSOE rally in the province of Huelva.

“This Tuesday, the Government of Spain will take to Europe the proposal that the EU sever its association with Israel,” he stressed.

Sanchez was careful to say that Spain’s stance is directed against the Israeli government and its policies, and not its citizens, saying, "We are a people friendly to Israel.” He also called on other European nations to back the initiative.

Earlier this month, Spain reopened its embassy in Tehran as part of a broader effort to support peace in West Asia.

This came just days after Madrid summoned Israel’s top envoy over the "absolutely illegal" one-hour detention of a Spanish UNIFIL soldier in southern Lebanon.

Sanchez also condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanon that killed over 254 people, calling it a breach of international law and of the ceasefire between Iran and the US, which explicitly extended to Lebanon.

Israel retaliated against Spain by expelling its representatives from the Gaza Civil-Military Coordination Center, citing “anti-Israel bias,” while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that countries opposing Israel diplomatically would pay an “immediate price” for their stance.

“Those of us who raise our voice against governments violating international law are being threatened,” Sanchez said.

Madrid's stance followed a series of similar measures against Israeli and US military actions in West Asia, first refusing the US use of military bases at Rota and Moron for Iran operations in early March, then later closing its entire airspace to US aircraft involved in strikes on Iran.

The UAE is in talks with the White House to gain special access to US dollars through currency swaps in the event the US-Israeli war on Iran plunges the Gulf monarchy into a deeper financial crisis, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on 19 April.

US officials reported that Khaled Mohamed Balama, the UAE Central Bank Governor, held meetings with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve representatives in Washington, DC, last week to discuss the possibility of establishing a currency-swap line.

Emirati officials reportedly told the US side that if the UAE experiences a dollar shortage, it may be forced to use Chinese yuan or other foreign currencies for oil sales and other transactions.

Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinian truck drivers hired by UNICEF and injured two others during routine water delivery operations at a filling point in northern Gaza on 17 April.

“UNICEF is outraged by the killing of two drivers of trucks contracted by UNICEF to provide clean water to families in the Gaza Strip,” a statement from the UN agency reads.

UNICEF added the victims were “killed by Israeli fire in an incident that took place early this morning at the Mansoura water filling point in northern Gaza.”

In April 2024, the BIS published a working paper by its General Manager Agustín Carstens and Nandan Nilekani, the architect of India’s digital identity system. The paper described the ‘Finternet’ — a vision of interconnected financial ecosystems built on unified ledgers with compliance built into the technology itself. The template for how it works is India Stack: Aadhaar digital identity, the Unified Payments Interface for real-time payments, and a data exchange layer for verified credentials...

The current cases go further. Ukraine, Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria aren’t just being rebuilt under conditional finance — they’re being rebuilt on Digital Public Infrastructure93. The G20 endorsed DPI as a development standard in 2023, drawing on the India Stack template the Finternet paper later generalised94. The package is identity, payments, and data exchange, installed as a unit. Reconstruction finance flows through DPI rails, while humanitarian aid arrives in digital wallets. Citizenship is rebuilt through digital credentials issued during reconstruction.

Ukraine’s Diia platform, launched in 2020 and massively expanded during the war, is the reference case. Every Ukrainian is being bound to a digital identity that carries payments, benefits, tax records, and verified credentials, with Western reconstruction aid explicitly funding the build-out. Gaza’s post-war reconstruction plans all assume DPI as the baseline because no prior infrastructure survives to preserve. Lebanon’s banking collapse routed citizens toward digital alternatives built to DPI specifications96. Syria, at the earliest stage, will be rebuilt on whichever donor template arrives first...

A refused transaction breaks no law, and the person whose payment fails faces the same outcome either way. The same goes for the enterprise that can't get certified and the state that can't get reconstruction finance.
