British public sentiment toward the US has sharply deteriorated during the Iran war, according to polling shared with POLITICO, reflecting growing strain in transatlantic relations. A majority of respondents now view the US as a negative force globally, with confidence in its role declining significantly compared to previous months.

The survey shows a widening perception that the US creates problems for other countries rather than resolving them.

Many also believe Washington increasingly challenges its allies instead of supporting them, while trust in the US during times of crisis has eroded.

The shift comes as tensions rise over British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s refusal to support US–Israeli strikes on Iran, despite allowing defensive use of UK airbases.

The findings signal a broader loss of confidence in the long-standing alliance, aligning British public opinion more closely with other Western countries.
