Saudi Arabia, UAE Deepen Support For US-Israel War On Iran: Report

President Trump is reportedly extorting the GCC states for trillions of dollars to support the war

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are deepening their support for the US–Israeli war on Iran by expanding military cooperation and granting Washington broader access to Gulf territory to stage attacks on the Islamic Republic, Middle East Eye (MEE) reported on 20 March.

The Gulf states allegedly lobbied Washington against going to war, but still allowed the US to use their territory to launch attacks on Iran. Tehran responded by targeting Washington's allies with ballistic missiles and drones.

These nations have also suffered from the loss of oil and gas revenue, as exports have fallen drastically due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE has suffered additional losses as its tourist industry has collapsed and expatriate workers have fled.

As a result, "the attitude in Riyadh has shifted towards supporting the US war as a way to punish Iran for strikes," a western official told MEE.

According to reports, Iran has issued six demands that the US must meet to end the war, including guarantees against future aggression, the closure of US military bases in the region, and compensation payments to the Islamic Republic

US President Donald Trump threatened on 22 March to attack Iran's power plants if the Islamic Republic does not allow free passage for western vessels through the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

"If Iran doesn't FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST," Trump wrote on his social media platform on Truth Social on Saturday night.

After the US and Israel launched the war on Iran on 28 February, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it would close the strait to vessels linked to “aggressor nations,” while maritime insurers in the UK and New York cancelled war risk coverage for vessels operating in the Persian Gulf.

The closure of Hormuz has brought Gulf oil production to a near standstill, drastically raising oil prices worldwide, particularly in Asia.

President Trump is under pressure to secure the vital waterway for western-linked vessels, while Iran continues to export its own oil on tankers through the strait...

Following Trump's threat, the Iranian army said it would target all energy infrastructure belonging to the US in the region if Iran's fuel and energy infrastructure were attacked....

Trump Backs Off On Threat To Bomb Iran’s Power Plants

Iran has denied Trump's claim that Washington and Tehran have held negotiations

President Trump has backed off on his threat to bomb Iran’s power plants if the Strait of Hormuz wasn’t “fully opened” by Monday night and claimed that Washington and Tehran had held talks over the past two days, which has been denied by Iranian officials.

“I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“BASED ON THE TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WHICH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ONGOING MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS,” the US president added.

In response to Trump’s initial post, Iranian media reported that there had been no talks and that Trump backed down because of Iran’s warning that it would retaliate with major attacks on energy infrastructure in Israel and in Arab countries housing US bases. A source told Iran’s Tasnim news agency that the US had sent messages through mediators, but that Iran’s message is that it will continue fighting until “deterrence” is established.

“With this kind of psychological warfare, neither the Strait of Hormuz will return to pre-war conditions nor will calm return to energy markets,” the source added. The Iranian Foreign Ministry also denied that any negotiations with the US were taking place.
