Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on 9 March sweeping austerity measures to curb domestic fuel consumption after oil prices briefly reached $120 a barrel due to the disruptions caused by the US-Israeli war on Iran.
“The entire region is currently in a state of war. Keeping this reality in mind, the government took difficult decisions for the country's economy,” Sharif said in his address.
He said oil prices were already above $100 a barrel and could rise further, forcing Islamabad to conserve reserves and take quick measures to reduce the need for fuel consumption across the country.
Measures in the public sector include a four-day workweek for government offices, and rotating work-from-home arrangements for half of the public staff.
The measures also involved two weeks of school closures, online classes for higher education, cuts to official fuel use, salary reductions for ministers and lawmakers, and restrictions on foreign travel and in-person government meetings.

In December 2020, the brothers attended Donald Trump’s White House Hanukkah celebration. Oren Alexander wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post:
“Spare your political views. The president just served us kosher food in his house and wished us a Happy Hanukkah.”
Photos from the event showed Tal and Oren posing inside the White House.
Their links to Trump-world extended beyond parties. Oren Alexander brokered the $24 million Indian Creek mansion purchased by Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump in 2021.
The brothers were also fixtures in elite Israeli and American networks. Seven years ago, twins Alon and Oren celebrated their 30th birthday at the upscale Claro restaurant in Tel Aviv, with a guest list including Israeli billionaire Shari Arison and Donald Trump advisor Aaron Jordan.
They were also major donors to pro-Israel and Jewish organisations, including:

Debris analysis has determined that the Minab school massacre was caused by US Tomahawk missiles, which Trump claims were 'launched by Iran'
Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani revealed on 10 March that at least 193 infants and children have been killed in the 11 days since the US and Israel launched an unprovoked war on Iran, including an eight-month-old girl, the youngest victim since the start of the aggression.
Mohajerani said the strikes have killed 206 women and children in total, including the 193 minors, adding that a four-month-old girl is the youngest person injured so far.
According to Iranian authorities, the overall death toll since the assault began has surpassed 1,200 people, including Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, while more than 10,000 others have been wounded.
“We did not begin the war, but we will be the ones to end it,” Mohajerani said, adding that Iranian authorities are preparing for multiple military scenarios while continuing defensive operations.
US-Israeli strikes on Iran targeted schools, hospitals, sports facilities, heritage sites, residential neighborhoods, and other civilian infrastructure.
Some of the earliest casualties occurred during the opening hours of the attacks on 28 February, when a strike on Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school reportedly killed more than 170 people, at least 165 of them children.
The New York Times (NYT) reported on 9 March that debris recovered near the site of the elementary school massacre in Minab included fragments of a US-made cruise missile, based on analysis of photographs from the site.
Serial numbers and labels visible on the debris match identification systems used in the US Department of Defense supply chain, the report said.
US President Donald Trump deflected blame for the strike onto Iran itself, claiming that the Islamic Republic acquired US Tomahawk missiles through some illicit means and used them to bomb the school.

The Israeli army is preparing for a prolonged war on Lebanon that could potentially extend beyond the current campaign against Iran, according to a report by the Financial Times (FT).

The Israeli army is preparing for a prolonged war on Lebanon that could potentially extend beyond the current campaign against Iran, according to a report by the Financial Times (FT).
“The Israelis are preparing international players for the prospect that the war with Hezbollah could drag on and last longer than the war with Iran,” sources told the outlet.
“There have also been diplomatic efforts to prevent a broader Israeli operation, with France offering to help disarm Hezbollah,” they added.

The Pentagon is using an Artificial Intelligence system developed by Palantir to select targets in Iran. Some members of Congress are considering legislation to place restrictions and safeguards on the Department of War’s use of AI.
Two Congressional sources speaking with NBC News confirmed the use of Palantir’s AI for targeting and the potential bill. “AI tools aren’t 100% reliable — they can fail in subtle ways and yet operators continue to over-trust them,” said Rep. Sara Jacobs.
“We have a responsibility to enforce strict guardrails on the military’s use of AI and guarantee a human is in the loop in every decision to use lethal force, because the cost of getting it wrong could be devastating for civilians and the service members carrying out these missions,” she added.
None of the members of Congress who spoke with NBC News wanted to prevent the Pentagon from using AI in the targeting process. The Department of War has claimed that humans remain the final decision makers on what the US military will target.

Eisenkot claimed northern Israel was “abandoned and paralyzed” under Hezbollah rocket fire and said the situation represented another failure following last year’s Israeli aggression.
