A tense exchange occurred between Donald Trump and New York Times White House correspondent Shawn McCreesh during a press interaction at the White House on Monday amid mounting questions about the US-Israeli bombing of an elementary school in Iran.

McCreesh challenged Trump over his claim that Iran may have been responsible for the strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab, which was hit on 28 February, the first day of the US–Israel war on Iran. The attack killed over 160 people, most of them schoolchildren.

During the exchange, McCreesh pressed Trump on why he was asserting a theory that Iran had somehow struck its own school.

Iranian Armed Forces, State Institutions Pledge Allegiance To New Supreme Leader

Iran’s armed forces and key state institutions have pledged allegiance to new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late leader Ali Khamenei, after his appointment in the early hours of 9 March.

Shortly after the decision was announced, Iran’s security and political institutions moved to publicly declare loyalty to the new leader.

Statements were issued by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Defense Council, the Defense Ministry, the IRGC Quds Force, and other military branches, affirming their commitment to the leadership transition.

According to Tasnim News Agency, the pledges emphasized the forces’ readiness to defend the Islamic Republic and protect national security during what officials described as an ongoing war imposed by the US and Israel.

The Defense Council declared, “We will obey the commander-in-chief until the last drop of our blood.”

US Bombs Iraqi PMU Base As Iran War Spillover Widens

An Israeli force reportedly landed near Najaf to install jamming and tracking radars to counter Iraqi resistance drones

An airstrike on 9 March struck a base in northern Iraq belonging to the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), a wing of the Iraqi armed forces enjoying support from Iran, according to officials from the group.

AFP reported that one PMU official attributed the strike to US forces, saying it hit a base near the town of Bartella near the city of Mosul in Nineveh Governorate.

The PMU was established in 2014, after Shia religious leader Ali Sistani called for volunteers to fight ISIS following the terror group’s capture of Mosul.

The group received support from famed Iranian general Qassem Suleimani and was later incorporated into the Iraqi armed forces.

Footage shows smoke billowing after strikes targeted positions of the Popular Mobilization Forces’ (PMF) 30th Brigade in Iraq’s northern city of Mosul on Monday.

There is some overlap between the PMU and Shia armed groups operating under the umbrella of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), including Kataib Hezbollah and Asaib Ahl al-Haq, which receive backing from Iran.

Members of Iraq’s other religious groups have since joined the PMU, including Sunnis, Yezidis, and Christians.

No casualties were reported in the attack in Bartella, which comes amid the US-Israeli war on Iran launched on 28 February.

Since the start of the war in Iran, bases belonging to the PMU have been hit by US strikes several times, while resistance groups affiliated with the PMU have reportedly carried out attacks against US targets.

On 6 March, a drone struck a hotel in Erbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR), where US military personnel were reportedly staying. Ashab al-Kahf, an Iraqi resistance group, claimed responsibility for the attack. No casualties were reported.

The following day, a drone attack targeted the Erbil airport, where US forces maintain a base.

The IRI later took credit for the attack. “Our brave men targeted the airport base in Erbil, occupied by the American occupation, with two drones, which successfully struck their targets,” the group said in a statement.

The attack was carried out in response to Israel’s killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of the war. The strike was launched in fulfillment of their “religious duty,” and “in retaliation for the Zionist-American aggression,” the statement added.

‘10 Classrooms Full Of Children’: US-Israeli War Kills Hundreds Of Iranian, Lebanese Kids

“Classrooms of children in Iran. Hundreds of people in Lebanon. The ongoing genocide in Gaza,” said Jeremy Corbyn. “The message from our political and media class is clear: Their lives are less valuable than others.”

US and Israeli airstrikes have killed nearly 300 Iranian and Lebanese children over the past nine days as the attackers target apartment towers, single-family homes, schools, medical facilities, and other civilian infrastructure .

Iran’s Health Ministry said Sunday that 198 women and 190 minors have been killed by US and Israeli attacks since February 28, including six children under the age of 5. The youngest reported victim is an 8-month-old girl. Children account for more than 30% of those killed, according to the ministry, which also said that 1,044 women and 638 children have been injured.

Overall, Iran said that more than 1,300 people have been killed by the airstrikes, which are reportedly targeting 30 of the country’s 31 provinces.

The Lebanese Health Ministry announced Sunday that 394 people, including 42 women and 83 children, have been killed by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacks after Iran-backed Hezbollah joined the war.

As the US war on Iran rages, wealthy families are arranging rapid departures from the Persian Gulf

Asian ultra-wealthy families are re-evaluating investments and relocation plans connected to Dubai as the US-Israeli war on Iran disrupts confidence in the Gulf financial hub, according to a 9 March report by Bloomberg.

Wealth advisors and family-office executives told Bloomberg that escalating regional violence, disrupted flights, and security concerns have prompted clients to delay moves, pull back funds, or prepare contingency plans in case the situation deteriorates.

Consultants cited in the report said inquiries from nervous investors have surged in recent days. Some clients are postponing relocation, while others are exploring ways to move money out of the UAE.

Nick Xiao, chief executive of Hong Kong-based multi-family office Annum Capital, said Asian investors drawn by tax advantages and new business opportunities are now reconsidering those choices.

“They are rethinking their decisions and probably moving their money back to Hong Kong or Singapore,” Xiao said.

As U.S. Military Threats And Actions Escalate, Coalition Calls For Ending Preparations For A Military Draft

A diverse coalition is mobilizing opposition to a recently-passed federal law that seeks to step up preparations for and readiness to activate a military draft. The new law authorizes the federal Selective Service System (SSS) to begin using automated involuntary registration to increase the number of individuals currently listed in the agency’s database of potential draftees.

A statement released today by the coalition argues that, instead of attempting to automate draft registration, Congress should repeal the entire Military Selective Service Act that authorizes registration and other planning and preparation for a draft.

Since 1980, almost all male U.S. citizens or residents who reach age 18 have been required by law to register themselves with the SSS. However, the SSS has seen persistent shortfalls in compliance , and it has become increasingly obvious that its database is both incomplete and inaccurate. As a result, Congress approved a provision proposed by the SSS and buried in the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act that will authorize the culling of information from other federal databases to automatically and involuntarily register men with the SSS. This law will give the SSS unprecedented authority to aggregate data from any other federal agency that might help identify or locate potential draftees.

The switch to automatic registration is scheduled to take effect at the end of 2026 and will deny individuals the opportunity to object or show they don’t qualify for a draft.

The coalition points out that the switch to automatic registration was enacted with no hearings, no debate, and no budget review, and it warns that “there is no reason to think that a list constructed from other databases compiled for entirely unrelated purposes will be any more fit for the purpose of provably delivering induction notices than the current ‘self-registration’ list.”

Another worry of the coalition is that access to the SSS database of registered individuals is already being sought by the Department of State and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in order to identify noncitizen residents for possible deportation.

With this unprecedented expansion of draft registration, the federal government is eliminating one of the last barriers to unpopular wars and mandatory military service. In addition, the registration list compiled by the SSS will be vulnerable to misuse and weaponization, especially against trans, non-binary, and immigrant youth.

California Law Forces Age-Tracking Into Every Operating System By 2027

In a different timeline, wiring an age-surveillance layer into the boot sequence of every computing device in California is an idea that would have died in committee.

California wants to build a surveillance layer into every device its residents touch. Assembly Bill 1043 , signed by Governor Gavin Newsom and taking effect January 1, 2027, requires every operating system provider to collect age information from users at account setup and broadcast that data to app developers through a real-time API.

Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux distributions, Valve’s SteamOS: if it runs an operating system, it’s covered by this overreaching law.

The proposals are particularly dumb for open-source Linux operating systems. Linux exists specifically because some people want computing that doesn’t surveil them. That’s not incidental to why the platform exists; it’s foundational.

Distributions like Arch, Debian, and Gentoo have no centralized account infrastructure by design. Users download ISOs from mirrors, modify source code freely, and run systems that report to nobody.

AB 1043 treats the entire architecture of open-source computing as a compliance problem. But there’s no entity to mandate, no account system to modify, no API to build.

The law’s definition of an “operating system provider” is deliberately broad, covering anyone who “develops, licenses, or controls the operating system software on a computer, mobile device, or any other general purpose computing device.”

That the law actually builds is a persistent age-signaling infrastructure woven into the startup process of your devices. OS providers must maintain what the bill calls a “reasonably consistent real-time application programming interface” that sorts users into four age brackets: under 13, 13 to under 16, 16 to under 18, and 18 or older. Every app developer who requests that signal when their app launches receives it automatically.

Your age category follows you from device to device, app to app, without you actively consenting to each disclosure.

The bill passed unanimously, 76-0 in the Assembly and 38-0 in the Senate. Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, who authored the bill, said it “avoids constitutional concerns by focusing strictly on age assurance, not content moderation.”

Wicks’s odd claim doesn’t hold up to much scrutiny. Age assurance is content moderation’s prerequisite. The entire point of collecting age signals and broadcasting them to every app developer is to enable those developers to restrict what different age groups can see. The infrastructure AB 1043 builds has no other purpose. Sorting users into age brackets at the OS level and piping that data to app developers in real time is the mechanism by which content gets moderated; calling it something else doesn’t change what it does.

AB 1043, surprisingly, isn’t the worst bill of its kind, though. It doesn’t require government ID uploads or facial scans; users simply declare their age at setup. That distinguishes it from laws in Texas and Utah requiring “commercially reasonable” verification like government-issued ID checks. The tradeoff is that California gets weaker age verification but broader infrastructure: a persistent age-signaling layer embedded in every device, broadcasting your age bracket to every developer who asks for the life of that device.
