One Month of Conflict, 10,000 Dead in Gaza

Israeli bombardment across Gaza continues as the death toll in the besieged Palestinian territory reaches at least 10,022 since October 7. At least 152 people have been killed in the occupied West Bank and more than 1,400 in Israel during the same period.

The Palestinian representative at the UN, Riyad Mansour, has demanded accountability for “crimes” committed by Israel and blamed the US for blocking the UN ceasefire deal.

Israel’s Nuclear Option Remark Raises ‘Huge Number of Questions’: Russia

Russia’s foreign ministry says Israel appeared to have admitted that it has nuclear weapons and is willing to use them.

Russian officials have joined other countries in expressing concern over the remarks of an Israeli junior minister who appeared to express openness to the idea of Israel carrying out a nuclear strike on Gaza, saying that it raises a “huge number of questions”.

Moscow’s reaction came on Tuesday, days after Heritage Minister Amihai Eliyahu, said during a radio interview, that the nuclear option would be “one way” to deal with Gaza, implying that, not only is Israel in possession of nuclear weapons – something the country has never admitted – but that it is also willing to use them.

...He also expressed his support for depopulating Gaza and reconquering it to reestablish Jewish settlements there. Regarding the Palestinian population, he said: “They can go to Ireland or deserts; the monsters in Gaza should find a solution by themselves.”

Eliyahu added that anyone waving a Palestinian or Hamas flag “shouldn’t continue living on the face of the earth.”

The Dollar’s Dominance Is Shakier Than Ever

In the months before August’s gathering of BRICS leaders in South Africa, rumors of a new BRICS currency swirled—only to fail to manifest at the summit itself. But don’t confuse a single summit’s headlines with evidence of a trend.

The wake of the BRICS summit splashes into a world much riper for de-dollarization now than it was even six months ago. BRICS, now BRICS+ due to the admission of new members, deserves only partial credit. In the last six months, tectonic shifts in China’s economy and in Washington have cleared the path for de-dollarization—an open route that BRICS+ can now step into.

BRICS+ may bring the global south’s economic statecraft from the 20th to the 21st century. In the 20th century, non-Western economic blocs, such as OPEC, gained geopolitical power through their control over the supply of specific economic commodities, such as oil. In the 21st century, non-Western economic blocs, such as BRICS+, can gain influence over the West through several economic channels at once. Twentieth-century oil embargoes may seem passe, even puny, relative to the 21st-century trade and financial actions that BRICS+ could theoretically now manage.

You can preview these new tools of economic statecraft in the composition of the admitted members who expanded the bloc from BRICS to BRICS+.

With Egypt, Ethiopia, and Saudi Arabia, BRICS+ can disrupt world trade not just in oil, but in everything. These three countries encircle the Suez Canal and effectively turn it into a BRICS+ lake. The canal is a key artery of the world economy. Some 12 percent of all global trade runs through the canal, which runs from the Mediterranean into the Red Sea. And it is the Red Sea that BRICS+ now encircles. Embanked by Egypt on the west and Saudi Arabia to the east, the Red Sea may not have beaches in landlocked Ethiopia, but Ethiopia is a regional power in East Africa. It has influence over the other East African countries, like Sudan and Somalia, that fill out the rest of the Red Sea’s western shore. If you wanted to weaponize the Suez’s importance in global trade, you’d have admitted Egypt, Ethiopia, and Saudi Arabia. BRICS admitted Egypt, Ethiopia, and Saudi Arabia.

Reuters Exclusive: Meta to Bar Political Advertisers From Using Generative AI Ads Tools

Facebook owner Meta (META.O) is barring political advertisers from using its new generative AI advertising products, a company spokesperson said on Monday, cutting off campaigns' access to tools that lawmakers have warned could turbo-charge the spread of election misinformation.

Meta has not yet publicly disclosed the decision in any updates to its advertising standards, which prohibit ads with content that has been debunked by the company's fact-checking partners but do not appear to have any rules specifically on AI.

The policy comes a month after Meta - the world's second-biggest platform for digital ads - announced it was starting to expand advertisers' access to AI-powered advertising tools that can instantly create backgrounds, image adjustments and variations of ad copy in response to simple text prompts.

The tools were initially made available only to a small group of advertisers starting in the spring. They are on track to roll out to all advertisers globally by next year, the company said at the time.

Israel Continues to Rebuff US Calls for ‘Humanitarian Pause’

Israel says it has cut off north Gaza from the south and is expected to send troops into Gaza City

The US has nothing to show for its calls for a temporary “pause” in Israel’s onslaught on Gaza as the Israeli military says it’s cut off north Gaza from the south and a new phase of heavy ground fighting is expected.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken was rebuffed when he visited Israel on Friday and called for a “humanitarian pause.” President Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday and discussed the idea of a “tactical pause,” but there’s no sign the Israeli leader agreed.

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the US was at the “beginning of the conversation” with Israel about the idea of a pause. “So you can expect that we’re going to continue to advocate for temporary, localized pauses in the fighting,” he said.

The Biden administration has refused to use the term “ceasefire,” claiming a stop in Israel’s assault would only benefit Hamas.

‘We Will Manage Gaza Long After the War:’ Netanyahu

As the Gaza-Israel war officially reaches one month, Israeli authorities are revealing their plans for the aftermath

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on 6 November that Tel Aviv will manage Gaza’s security long after the war between Israel and Palestinian factions is over.

“I think Israel will, for an indefinite period will, have the overall security responsibility because we've seen what happens when we don't have it. When we don't have that security responsibility, what we have is the eruption of Hamas terror on a scale that we couldn't imagine," the Israel premier said during a pre-recorded interview with ABC News on Monday.

Netanyahu also touched on the topic of a ceasefire that could see Gaza acquire aid its citizens desperately need.

🚨BREAKING: Israel Says Its Forces Operating in ‘Heart of Gaza City’

Israel said on Tuesday its forces were operating deep in Gaza City in their battle to wipe out Hamas in the Palestinian enclave and said the Islamist militant group's leader was trapped inside a bunker there.

Retaliating for a deadly Oct. 7 attack by Hamas gunmen, the Israeli military is focused on Gaza City, Hamas' stronghold in the north of the territory."

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant told a televised news conference that Israeli soldiers had advanced to the heart of Gaza City and "were tightening the noose".

Troops on foot and in armoured vehicles and tanks "have one target - Hamas terrorists in Gaza, their infrastructure, their commanders, bunkers, communications rooms," Gallant said.

Hamas' most senior leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, was isolated in his bunker, Gallant said, adding it was Sinwar "who a month ago made the murderous decision to attack Israeli civilians, women, and children."

And now, he is "cut off from his surroundings, his chain of command is weakening," Gallant said.

Hamas leaders worth staggering $11B revel in luxury — while Gaza’s people suffer

“The terror group’s three top leaders alone are worth a staggering $11 billion between them and enjoy a life of luxury in the sanctuary of the emirate of Qatar.

The emirate has long welcomed the leaders of the terror group and installed them in its luxury hotels and villas at the same time as hosting a vast American military presence.

Now Republican Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles is co-sponsoring a bill that would strip Qatar of its status as a key US ally, The Post has learned, unless it kicks out the Hamas leadership.”

‘It Should Be Disappeared’: Ron Paul Slams the World Economic Forum, Advocating for Its Dismissal

The former congressman believes the WEF has overstepped, infiltrating education and medicine.

“They've taken over completely the medical profession,” Paul stated, underscoring the gravity of their influence during the COVID pandemic.

Paul's stark warning resonates more amidst the backdrop of eroded medical freedoms. The lockdown, in his view, was a revelation for many, showcasing the extent of the WEF's reach. Now, as awareness grows, so does resistance.

It's a fight, he suggests, to restore the core of individual choice and freedom.

Ukraine Seeks to Become ‘Arsenal of the Free World’

A top Ukrainian official said Kiev is seeking to become one of the largest arms manufacturers in the world. The statement comes as the Biden administration has begun pushing Ukraine to engage in talks with Russia on ending the war. Ukraine developing a large weapons industry and selling those arms to the enemies of Russia will likely interfere with any deals to end the conflict.

The czar of Ukraine’s weapons industry believes that Kiev should become an arms production hub for the West. Oleksandr Kamysyhin, the minister for strategic industries of Ukraine, explained, “We’re really focusing on making Ukraine the arsenal of the free world.”

He told the AP on Friday, “We are focused on producing all types of weapons and ammunition, and we show that we can test it on the battlefield and make it better during the war.” Kamysyhin added, “That’s something we can contribute to the free world, because as you see, defense industry is becoming more and more important globally.”

While Kamysyhin is eyeing exporting arms in the future, currently, Kiev and Ukraine’s Western backers are struggling to adequately provide frontline soldiers with weapons to fight Russian forces.

Zelensky Says It’s ‘Not the Right Time for Elections’ in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a Monday address that it is “not the right time for elections” in Ukraine as the end of his five-year term approaches.

Zelensky argued in his Monday video address that Ukraine should not have to deal with elections as it continues to attempt to fend off Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022. He previously had not ruled out Ukraine holding a presidential contest next year, though elections are currently suspended in the country under martial law.

“And finally, the waves of any politically divisive things must stop,” he said Monday. “We must realize that now is the time of defense, the time of the battle that determines the fate of the state and people, not the time of manipulations, which only Russia expects from Ukraine. I believe that now is not the right time for elections.”

“And if we need to put an end to a political dispute and continue to work in unity, there are structures in the state that are capable of putting an end to it and giving society all the necessary answers. So that there is no room left for conflicts and someone else’s game against Ukraine,”
he said.

Presidential elections in Ukraine are scheduled to take place every five years, with the next one slated for next March. Zelensky was sworn into office in May 2019, meaning that his five-year term is set to expire in a few months.

State Department Officials Slam Biden’s Israel Policy in Dissent Memo

The memo says the US should support a ceasefire

State Department staffers have slammed President Biden’s full-throated support for Israel’s bombardment of Gaza in a dissent memo.

The memo was obtained by POLITICO, which reported that the blistering critique of Biden’s handling of the war reflects the sentiments of many US diplomats, especially at the middle and lower levels. HuffPost previously reported that a “mutiny” was brewing within the State Department.

One request made in the memo is for the US to support a ceasefire in Gaza. The Biden administration has said it supports a “humanitarian pause” but has refused to use the term ceasefire.

The memo also calls on Biden administration officials to publicly criticize Israel’s military tactics and treatment of Palestinians. The memo says the lack of public comments critiquing Israel “contributes to regional public perceptions that the United States is a biased and dishonest actor, which at best does not advance, and at worst harms, US interests worldwide.”

“We must publicly criticize Israel’s violations of international norms such as failure to limit offensive operations to legitimate military targets,” the memo reads. “When Israel supports settler violence and illegal land seizures or employs excessive use of force against Palestinians, we must communicate publicly that this goes against our American values so that Israel does not act with impunity.”

The memo criticizes the US for accepting the high civilian casualty rate in Israel’s bombardment, saying that doing so “engenders doubt in the rules-based international order that we have long championed.”

According to POLITICO, it’s unclear how many people signed the memo or if it was submitted to the State Department’s Dissent Channel, which was established during the Vietnam War to give diplomats a way to criticize policy.
