Telegram Sues Australia Over Age Verification Law

Telegram has initiated a lawsuit in the Federal Court of Australia against the local regulator, eSafety. The messenger is challenging the legality of the "Online Safety Act 2021" and a significant fine imposed on it.

As a reminder, in February 2025, the Australian regulator fined Telegram over $600,000 for delaying the provision of information on its measures to combat terrorism and materials related to child exploitation.

Telegram's arguments in court:
• The company argues that under Australian law, it is not defined as a "provider of social media services" and is therefore not subject to the regulator's demands.
• Telegram states it never received the initial notification for the fine, claiming it was sent to an incorrect address.
• The company asserts that once it became aware of the request, it voluntarily provided the required information. The @tginfo team previously analyzed the details of that response.

Context of the dispute: The lawsuit comes as Australia prepares to introduce some of the world's strictest age verification rules, effective December 10, 2025.

• The new rules will require tech platforms (including Reddit, Facebook, and TikTok) to prevent users under 16 from accessing their services.
• Fines for non-compliance can reach A$50 million (~$33 million USD).
• Privacy advocates are concerned that to comply with these requirements, companies will have to collect sensitive biometric data or identity documents, jeopardizing the privacy of all users.

Similar age verification measures are being introduced in other countries. For example, earlier this year, Telegram launched facial age verification for users in the United Kingdom due to a new local "online safety" law.

This move is notable amid the numerous restrictions Telegram has faced this year. Unlike the situations in Vietnam, Nepal, Russia, or the UK, where the messenger has largely played a passive role, the company is now taking an active legal stance by challenging the regulator's actions in court.

Trump Won’t Rule Out Sending US Troops Into Venezuela

The president has been sending mixed signals on the possibility of war with Venezuela

President Trump said on Monday that he wouldn’t rule out sending American troops into Venezuela amid the US military buildup in the Caribbean and push toward a potential war to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

“I don’t rule out that. I don’t rule out anything,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office when asked if he would rule out putting troops on the ground in Venezuela.

The New York Times previously reported that Trump has been presented with options for attacking Venezuela, including two that involve sending troops: deploying a special operations team to kill or capture Maduro or sending a much larger force to seize strategic airfields and oil infrastructure inside the country. Amid US threats to attack Venezuela, US troops have been conducting drills in the region, including training in jungle warfare at a base in Panama.

Trump has been sending mixed signals on the possibility of starting a war with Venezuela, which would be illegal without congressional authorization, per the US Constitution. On Sunday, Trump said that his administration “may be having some discussions with Maduro,” suggesting he may not have cut off all diplomacy with the Venezuelan government.

Last week, Trump was reportedly briefed on options to bomb Venezuela. According to The Washington Post , senior administration officials, including Vice President JD Vance, War Secretary Pete Hegseth, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, held deliberations with Trump on Friday to discuss whether and how the US should attack Venezuela.

❗️Israel signals ‘preemptive’ strike on Lebanon as raids fail to halt Hezbollah buildup

Israeli military officials say they are preparing for what they call a short “preemptive” operation in Lebanon, acknowledging that near-daily airstrikes and ground incursions have failed to curb Hezbollah’s growing capabilities.

Senior officers told ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth that Northern Command and the Air Force have been hitting Lebanese territory for months, but Hezbollah continues to strengthen its positions, particularly in villages further from the border.

They also revealed that Galilee Division troops have carried out around 1,200 ground raids inside Lebanon over the past year since the "ceasefire," with little to show for it.

Sixty Israeli Incursions Hit South Syria In Just Three Weeks: Report

Tel Aviv is escalating military operations in occupied Syrian territory as negotiations for a security deal with Damascus stall

In a noticeable escalation, Israeli forces have carried out nearly 60 incursions into southern Syria in November so far, involving heavy shelling, arrests of civilians and combatants, the establishment of military checkpoints, and the bulldozing of roads and farmlands, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on 22 November.

SOHR noted “the absence of any deterrent” on the part of the Syrian government to “stop this escalation, reflecting the growing security challenges along the country’s southern border.”

The UK-based rights group reiterated its “firm call on the international community and all concerned parties to take immediate action to put an end to these ongoing assaults.”

On Friday, Israeli forces infiltrated multiple villages in Syria's central Quneitra countryside, including Umm Batna, Rasm al-Khawaled, Mushayrifah, and Al-Ajraf, state media SANA reported.

Citing local sources, Iraq’s Shafaq News reported that another Israeli patrol was seen in the villages of Al-Asbah and Al-Asha, also located in the southern countryside of Quneitra.

New U.S. Polling Shows Sympathy For Israel Has Collapsed To Historic Lows.

Among registered voters:
Israel: 29.1%
Palestine: 21.4%
Neither: 29.9% (largest share)
Key shifts:
• Republicans: Israel support down to 47.1%, while 25.4% now say “Neither.”
• Democrats: Only 17.1% side with Israel; 31.9% with Palestine.
• Independents: Split almost evenly; 20.1% Israel, 20.1% Palestine, 36% Neither.
The generational split is dramatic:
• America First (age 25–29) now sympathize 40.8% with Palestine vs. 24.5% with Israel.
• Republicans (18–29): 33.4% Palestine vs. 27.9% Israel.
On Gaza:
• 38.4% of voters say Israel’s actions amount to genocide.
• Only 29% disagree.
And 50.6% say the Trump administration is “too focused on foreign affairs.”
This is the most anti-intervention, least pro-Israel electorate in modern U.S. polling. This trend is accelerating among young voters and the America First base.

VIDEO | Controversy erupts after new X feature allegedly lists DHS account as based in Tel Aviv

When X (formerly Twitter) launched its “About This Account” feature showing where accounts are based, videos and screenshots circulated online, claiming the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) account was based in Tel Aviv, Israel.

X’s product lead, Nikita  Bier, responded to users by calling the reports “fake news”, claiming that the location data was incorrect for a “very small subset of old accounts,” attributing the error to changing IP ranges, and corrected the account to show “United States.”

However, the sudden appearance of such a high-profile government account in a foreign location raises questions about the reliability of the feature and the transparency of account management.

While no evidence so far confirms any physical presence outside the US, the incident highlights how easily location data can be misrepresented, or manipulated, on digital platforms, leaving the public to weigh official reassurances against unexplained anomalies.
