Washington Pushes Back After Iraq Links US Pullout To Resistance Disarmament
The US confirmed it is not 'withdrawing' but is instead just 'shifting' its presence in Iraq, warning that Baghdad has a 'responsibility' to disarm resistance groups
Washington has rejected recent comments made by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, in which he linked the disarmament of Iraq’s resistance to the withdrawal of US coalition forces from the country.
Speaking to Shafaq News, a US State Department spokesperson said addressing “terrorist organizations” remains an Iraqi sovereign responsibility, emphasizing that such groups engage in “violent and destabilizing activities in Iraq.”
The spokesperson added that “their actions drain the country’s resources and act against its national interests.”
Addressing the future of US forces, the spokesperson said Washington is proceeding in accordance with an agreed timeline to transition the coalition’s mission and conclude its combat role.
“This is not a withdrawal,” the spokesperson affirmed. “It is a shift toward a more traditional bilateral relationship in the areas of security and diplomacy.”

❗️US to end protected status for South Sudanese nationals
The US Department of Homeland Security plans to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for South Sudanese nationals, according to a report from CBS News. This would result in the cessation of over a decade of protection that allowed thousands to live and work legally in the US.
Officials said the decision by DHS Secretary Kristi Noem followed consultations with the State Department and other federal agencies.
Despite warnings from the United Nations and humanitarian groups that South Sudan risks renewed conflict, DHS cited improved diplomatic ties, the formal end of major hostilities, and South Sudan’s pledge to accept returnees, saying that maintaining TPS would now be “contrary to US interests.”

This demands a unified and dignified national stance that compels respect for our country and people, and safeguards Lebanon’s sovereignty and dignity.
As for becoming entangled in or sliding toward the proposed negotiation traps, such moves would only grant further gains to the Israeli enemy, which always takes and never abides by its commitments—indeed, it gives nothing.
With such a savage enemy, backed by the American tyrant, no maneuver or cleverness can succeed.
Lebanon’s responsibility today lies in enforcing the ceasefire declaration, and pressuring the Zionist enemy to comply with it—not in yielding to aggressive blackmail or being dragged into political negotiations with the Zionist enemy.
Such negotiations serve no national interest and carry existential dangers that threaten the Lebanese state and its sovereignty.
In conclusion, as a founding component of Lebanon, which we have pledged as a final homeland for all its citizens, we reaffirm our legitimate right to resist occupation and aggression, and to stand alongside our army and our people in defending the sovereignty of our country.
Legitimate defense does not fall under the category of a “decision of peace” or a “decision of war”; rather, we exercise our right to defend against an enemy that imposes war upon our country, refuses to halt its assaults, and seeks to subjugate our state.
Based on this vision, we approach current developments by reaffirming to all that the present moment calls for unity of effort to halt the Zionist violations, aggression, and escalation against our country, and to repel the security and existential dangers threatening it.
We hold in high esteem the patience of our steadfast and proud people, who endure injustice and aggression alongside us, hoping to preserve sovereignty and national dignity.
We pledge to remain in the position of honor, dignity, and truth, defending our land and our people, and working toward the fulfillment of our generations’ hopes and future."

Sudan’s army has rejected a US-backed ceasefire proposal, announcing plans to mobilize national support to continue fighting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which control much of western Sudan.

A series of overnight raids included field interrogations and mass arrests, during which an elderly woman, Haniya Hanoun, died following a brutal storming of her home and her son’s house, where her grandson was also detained after being violently assaulted.
According to the Club, the level of brutality during these arrest operations has escalated to unprecedented levels since the start of what it describes as an ongoing genocide, citing direct field executions, torture, and severe beatings.
It reported that since the beginning of this period, about 20,500 Palestinians, many of whom include children, women, and the elderly, have been targeted through arrest campaigns and widespread field interrogations across the occupied West Bank.
The organization held Israeli authorities fully responsible for Hanoun’s death and for ongoing abuses against detainees and their families, calling these actions clear evidence of Israel's criminal conduct.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club reports that Israeli forces continue to carry out systematic nighttime arrest raids in the occupied West Bank, marked by violent assaults, home destruction, and the use of police dogs.
The organization described these actions as part of a broader “price tag” policy involving vandalism, property seizure, and the use of civilians as hostages to terrorize families. ❗️Voters in US city vote to back Palestine divestment measure in major local victory
In a decisive show of support, Somerville voters approved a ballot question urging the city to divest from companies linked to Israel’s actions in Palestine. The nonbinding Question 3, which called for cutting ties with corporations that “engage in business sustaining Israel’s apartheid, genocide, and illegal occupation of Palestine,” passed with 55.7 percent in favor, or 11,489 votes, according to unofficial results. About 38.4 percent, or 7,920 voters, opposed the measure, while 1,203 left the question blank.
The initiative, driven by the grassroots group Somerville for Palestine, collected more than 11,000 signatures to reach the ballot. Speaking to a local paper, the group leader Sara Halawa said the outcome reflected growing solidarity with Palestine and a desire to end local complicity in genocide, apartheid, and occupation.
The campaign faced legal challenges from Somerville United Against Discrimination, a group funded by the Anti-Defamation League that twice sought to remove the measure from the ballot. Calling the vote “just the beginning,” Halawa said it sends a clear message to city leaders that Somerville residents want action in solidarity with Palestine.
